When I first read the show's description, before scrolling past the "beware of spoilers" line, my first thought was roughly "confronting the main character with the fact that she's definitely not a good person like this sure seems like an effective way to get her to become one — I bet this is really purgatory!"
Which isn't what was happening in season 1, but the way season 4 is going, I'd bet several dollars that something like that will become part of the new system.
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.Second episode has been watched!
1. So, this show's stepping into it's premise and the premise is an intriguing one, as Tobias Drake had described: can a bad person actually change? It's, eh, one I'm actually curious to see the show tackle since it's pretty clearly an unabashed comedy. This weird fusion of quoting Aristotle and licking a napkin you used to dab your sweaty armpits because you're apparently part cat.
2. Michael is now my favorite character and all it took was for him to literally punt a wayward puppy who wasn't doing anything wrong into the sun. I cheered at that!
3. Yeesh, the Good Place is temperamental and really focused around the flaws of one person.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. If you think about it, the demon that freaked out because "my dog doesn't love me?!" was either incredibly committed to the bit, or making a hilariously concerted effort to make Michael's life harder.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Gotta troll the boss from time to time. Keeps things fun.

I mean, realistically the guy at the beginning just shouldn't be clicking on any spoilers, but I must admit a fully spoilered post bugs me (probably a residual effect of All White Entry being a pet peeve of mine on the main site).
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. So, I've watched episode three this morning!
1. I think I just saw my soul reflected in Chindi this episode.
2. You know, some of the jokes in this show I've noticed are hit-and-miss.
Michael licking the napkin he used to dap his armpits, eeeehhhh. Micheal punting a dog into the sun, oh man, that was amazing.
Eleanor dying by getting hit by a "male enhancment" truck, eeeehhh. Eleanor's ludicrous ways to be a jackass with being the designated driver (yes, the face of integrity is stuffing your mouth with paper), I chuckled.
3. Zounds! That behaired Buddhist monk was not actually a monk! I'm glad Dragon Ball didn't lie to me about that!
Just kidding, this is a spoiler I knew before I started watching. I caught it on the "Diversity and Representation in Media" forum about how he's not only not a Buddhist monk, he's also not even Chinese.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.I think part of the reason the humor gets better is because the writers got a better handle on the actors and the characters. Like, Jameela Jamil is really, really good at the "what the fork did he just say" face and as the show goes on, they're able to throw it in more and more often as a quick gag.
Also, being able to expand the types of jokes about the setting helped a lot too, I think.
The YMMV page
calls the latest twist a Shocking Swerve, but I think it's pretty in-character since a lot of Gen's flaws stem from being shortsighted. What do you guys think?
Holy shit what an episode.
And yeah, I don't think that twist counts as a Shocking Swerve.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.Gen is also pretty lazy. She doesn't actually, like...do much over the course of the show, she mostly just sits around binging TV shows. Her primary contribution to the (sanctioned) part of the Earth experiment was to wander into the room Michael and Janet were in and ask if they wanted to watch something with her, and she literally only heard the case in the first place because she was bored. She's not a bad judge in general (she's certainly a lot more sane than most of the afterlife staff), but she seems to want to avoid making judgments that require a lot of work and effort on her part.
Whoever it was that predicted a Bad Janet revolution gets most of a cookie. IIRC, the prediction was that the Bad Janets would revolt and overthrow the Bad Place rather than all Janets revolting and overthrowing the Judge, but the principle's still the same.

okay real talk, they're hurdling into endgame territory and I'm very excited to see what happens now that they've done the midseason trick of shifting over into a new story.
The funerals were lovely character beats, with my favorite being Jason's morbid blitheness about his mom.
Gen deciding to just reboot the universe and bidding goodbye to everyone has me really wondering about the metaphysics of demons.
It's sad but not surprising that Brent couldn't even make it past decent person threshold.
I wonder if Glenn's regenerated back to normal now.
This is probably answered in the podcast, but I haven't caught up with it so what's up with Disco Janet??? also I want to see the Janets bonding more now that they've got this group going.
The Take That! at Pewdiepie was great

D'Arcy has taken Acting for Two Up To Eleven by this point.
Good Janet giving Bad Janet a "sister hug" was heartwarming. I'd love to see them bond.
It's nice that we finally get to know Pillboi's real name now.
And Gen has just pulled a Thanos. This should be fun.

Fancy seeing you here, fred! This is gonna be exciting to watch your reactions to episodes. Though I guess that means we should spoiler all current episode talk probably.
Not to bring up ponies in a thread that's got nothing to do with them, but the mention of the MLP thread reminded me, I once saw a TGP/MLP fanart with Rainbow Dash as Eleanor and Twilight Sparkle as Chidi, and you can probably guess who was Michael. And I figured that worked well enough because Rainbow Dash seems similar enough to Eleanor. But then today I saw a ponified version of the original TGP trailer putting Starlight Glimmer as Eleanor. Which also seems to work pretty well. I can't really decide who works better as Eleanor. (shrug)
When we're done, there won't be anything left.
