Crossroads

Aki and Alice's reflection both dealt with their respective monsters fairly quickly. The former had to deal with icy beams aimed at her feet in an attempt to halt her movements, but chances were they wouldn't be able to make much progress before they were destroyed. The latter's adversaries, meanwhile, sped up to meet Alice's charge. They didn't even stand a chance before they were snapped in two by her reflection and vanishing into black smoke.

Al wasn't having as much luck. Not only was she sent flying, the wheels left a parting gift in the form of some ice covering the spots where they struck. Some of it covered the joints of her armor. It wasn't strong enough to resist breakage, but it'd likely slow her down a little.

The monsters didn't take long to give chase. This time they froze their entire bodies before moving in a weaving pattern towards Al, leaving a snail's trail of cloudy ice behind them that would likely make it difficult for Aki or Alice to try and chase after them. If they weren't stopped, they'd jump just before reaching Al before attempting to use all of their legs as a drill to pierce through her armor. One went for the joint between her neck and head, while the other two went for one of her legs.

All the while, there was already another group approaching. As with the other groups they might be able to tell where they were coming from, although it would be more difficult for them given they weren't quite in the park yet.

Central Park

Once the Darkmaster drew his sword, everything sort of went by in a panicked blur for Charlotte. The yelling, the Darkmaster getting dragged away by a seemingly ordinary girl, the wheel-things coming at her...everything just happened in vague impressions, fueled solely by Charlotte's instincts and adrenaline. But once that second wave of creatures fell and the people around her started monologuing, Charlotte started to become aware of herself again. She felt her racing heart, her lungs gasping for air...and she felt alive. Whatever the hell was happening, she was surviving, maybe even thriving in it. A wave of confidence coming over her, she took her sword and dramatically planted it blade-first into the ground.

"You see that right there?" she yelled out at the hordes. "I'm the sharpest sword in the South! Don't you ever talk about me! Don't you ever come at me, 'cause you see what happens!" She pulled her sword out from the grass and, just noticing the words "Apex Predator" etched on its blade, decided to work it into her trash talk. "I got the Apex Predator! Y'all are just my prey! You don't come at the Beast and live to tell the tale!" She let out a battle cry and began charging towards this third wave of wheel-monsters, looking to take out as many of them as possible.

"Ah... There! They're speading out from the center of the park, it's like.,, something must be summoning them to that point!" Alyssa shouted to the others and pointed at the point where the ripple-like patters was originating, though she was unsure what to do about it. She had a bow, that might stop some of them from getting to the girls but it wasn't exactly suited for charging into a hoard of monsters.

One of the other girls also started shouting and pointing to where a girl was in trouble, and had just fallen to the ground. Wasting no time Alyssa fired an arrow at one of the two creatures that seemed focused on the girl instead of the fox

Velita nods to her friend. "R....Right! Lemme try...uhm..." she holds up her hands again, trying to summon the same energy, and before she knew it, had two more flying back into the mass, much like a bowling ball!

Needless to say, she's starting to get used to this. "W...Woo~"

Aki I Crossroads I HAH! Take tha- Oh shit

The pesky little wheels had tried to slow her down, but those efforts were in vain. Aki's quickly formed shield made a stop to that and even if it didn't, she could easily dodge them; what with her slightly improved physiques.

They didn't stand a chance. Removing the barrier once she gets close to them, she uses the reserve energy left behind and used it to deliver the same blow towards the four other wheels, with punches and kicks. While not as powerful as her previous(due in part of her having to focus on four opponents simultaneously instead of just one), it's still more than enough to send them sprawling and turned to fine mists.

"Okay, I'm done!" Aki loudly exclaimed, turning around to look at the rest to see if they're safe. There, she saw the new girl that she brought became two, which confuses her. "Wha- There's two of you now?!" At least she(or her twin?) took care of that one, so all that's left is...

"Tree lady, look out!" she suddenly shouted, and sprinted after her upon looking that she's in danger. The fact that the trail left by the ice wheels have made chasing after them difficult, but that certainly won't stop Aki from trying!

Unfortunately, she might not be able to come through in time before the first strike. If only there's a small boost, a distraction of sorts or if Allison could just hold on for a moment, then there might still be a chance...

Crossroads — Greenpeace would not approve

Getting hit by the wheels wasn't the end of it for Allison since their hits froze part of her armor, making it very difficult for her to escape. She struggled to get up, pushing herself up from the car, when more icy wheels crashed into her. Two of them were already making their way through her greave and hurting her leg but Al was mostly concerned about the one trying to reach her neck, for obvious reasons.

The fact that her powers were informing her of more wheels coming from the park, making it hard for her to realize how many there actually were near her, didn't help at all.

"Get off!" she said, awkwardly clawing at the wheel in her neck and flailing her legs to make the other ones stop

"IF THAT IS THE CASE," T.D.M. said to Alyssa as she denoted the likely source of the wheel-related menace, "THEN WE SHALL MAKE NO HASTE IN DESTROYING THE FEL WIZARD UNDOUBTEDLY RESPONSIBLE FOR IT."

"What, no! There's someone that needs help, we'll go get her first," Heather said to her very belligerent familiar. He turned to her, and said "WOULD IT NOT BE MORE EXPEDIENT TO SIMPLY REMOVE THE SOURCE, SO SHE AND OTHERS ARE NOT ATTACKED FURTHER?"

Heather really wanted to protest, but it was sound logic, which was a surprising thing coming from this individual. People were already moving to help that girl, so they didn't need to all dogpile on her when she could be helping many at once, right? Come to think of it, the quickest answer was probably the best, considering they were still being attacked by crazy wheel demon things.

She slowly nodded, and said, "Then...let's go and do it already." T.D.M. bowed, and said OF COURSE!" before making his way to the center, trying to cleave his way through until he got there.

Central Park (Rosalie, Heather, Alyssa, Velita, Caitlyn, Maike)

By the time Rosalie reached the girl with the fox, it turned out that her help was largely unneeded. The two focused on the girl were too focused on her to notice the incoming attacks and as such were swiftly destroyed by the archer girl's arrow and the cat girl, respectively.

However, the one focused on the fox managed to avoid the vine coming its way. It then froze itself and ran over the vine to freeze it to the ground for good measure. Then it took to the air, and then raised all its limbs as if charging for something.

Rosalie decided to try attacking this one. However, she didn't want to try getting close enough to it to try punching or kicking it; after all, getting herself frozen wouldn't help anyone. So instead, she tried swinging her arm towards it, hoping that she'd fire an energy blast or something like the blind girl could.

She did manage to do something, but not quite what she expected. Pink, sparkly energy surrounded the flying creature, seemingly holding it in place. She tried willing it to move away from the group. As much as the creature struggled, the energy did as she commanded. She moved it around some more, before turning her attention to the incoming horde. Then she moved her arm as if to toss the creature into the mass of its fellows as hard as she could. In response, the energy did just that before dissipating. The creature collided with three of the others, before the entire lot was destroyed by the blind girl's energy blasts.

The whole scene was enough to make her crack a small smile, despite everything going on. It looked like she had mind powers now, which was awesome. Well, it would be awesome if she wasn't forced to wear something so silly. Oh, and also if it weren't for the fact they were getting attacked by creepy wheel monsters.

With that out of the way, she looked towards the spot where the archer girl seemed to be pointing. The Darkmaster and presumably the girl he was with was already heading there, which reminded her of her earlier suggestion. Since no one really acknowledged it, she decided to just say it again.

"Um...maybe we should try getting behind him...." she said, pointing, "Maybe he can h-help block the monsters...."

Regardless of what the others did, she'd quickly make her way back to her skateboard and hop on it. It just seemed more efficient than trying to run anywhere in these shoes, and she didn't want to just leave it there lest it get broken or stolen or something. Then she'd do her best to stay in line behind the shadow man, using her powers to try and fend off any monsters that got around him.

Central Park (Charlotte)

Charlotte's strength was easily enough to smash any monster that got hit by her blade. Unfortunately, it also wouldn't take long for the others to learn that brute force wasn't going to help them much against her.

The surviving monsters, of which there appeared to be around thirteen or so, froze themselves and started working on surrounding her with ice trails. Then they started firing icy blasts at her feet in an attempt to get her to fall over.

If Charlotte wasn't too distracted in her fight, she might notice that she was close to the epicenter of the hordes. There was what looked to be a portal hastily torn through the fabric of reality. The world on the other side of the portal, from what little could be seen of it, appeared to be a twisted mockery of the park, mostly in grayscale but with a blood red sky. Groups of monsters emerged from it in waves, indicating that whatever was making them lie on the other side of the portal.

She might also be able to see the incoming Darkmaster plus whatever girls happened to be following him.

Crossroads

The monsters were too focused on breaking through Alison's armor and resisting her attempts to shake them off to notice the incoming Aki. The two on her legs just covered them with more ice to limit her movements before they continued working on breaking through her armor. The one at her neck, meanwhile, was having a hard enough time trying to remain attached. It attempted to get in line with her face before firing an icy beam straight at her eyes in an attempt to blind her.

If any of them succeeded in breaking through, the second their legs made direct contact with her Alison would suddenly start losing feeling. Not in the physical sense; her emotions would start flowing out of her and into the creatures. It wouldn't stop there; if Alison or anyone else failed to get them off in time, she would steadily start to lose herself as her very sense of self was sucked out of her and devoured.

Crossroads

Alice's elation at having been saved by her own reflection was cut short when she noticed what was happening to Al. She was about to try ordering her reflection to help, but puddles don't have the most stable reflections and a leaf just fell on the puddle. While small, the ripples distorted the reflection enough to cause the mirror clone to disappear.

She didn't know what to do now. There was no way she could get them off Al without relying on something else. And then, inspiration. If her reflection could be pulled out, why not other things? Alice crouched down by the puddle and reached her hand in, entering it into the image instead of disrupting the surface. She then plucked a bunch of leaves out. They were as thin as normal leaves but were made of the odd diamond like material. In other words, really sharp.

Alice ran at Al and started throwing her new supply of sharp objects at the wheels on her from a relatively short distance, since she didn't want to get frozen. She was trusting that the bark armor would hold if any razor leaves hit it.

Crossroads — Emotional numbing

Allison started panicking the second one of the demonic wheels shoot ice in her face, temporarily blinding her. It's not like she was a trained fighter to begin with, but this was just making her erratically move her body. She didn't know what was going on and acted accordingly.

But when one of them managed to pierce through her armor and touch her leg, she started feeling numb, in the metaphorical sense. Her panic turned into apathy and now she felt as if everything wasn't even happening.

What was the point? Why was she fighting these creatures to begin with? Why was she doing anything, for that matter?

She stopped struggling, and just laid on the floor, accepting her fate.

What was so bad about possibly dying? Everyone had to do it at some point. And it's not like anyone would be too shaken up by her passing. Her family would eventually move on if she did.

Meanwhile, her physical sense of feeling was up and running, as evidenced by the pain from getting hit by... whatever the hell those proyectiles were. Al was too distracted by the wheels' actions to pay any attention to her surroundings.

Aki I Crossroads I Help is on their way!

"Allison!" Aki cried out, looking at the things piercing through her legs and sudden;y seeing that she stopped struggling. Oh no.

Get away from her! As though in response, she quickly closes the distance between her and the wheels, using the fact that they didn't seem to notice her to her advantage. But Aki doesn't care about that. All she cares about is to get them away from the tree lady.

There's the matter of her other friend helping out by throwing leaves(that oddly doesn't seem to flow with the wind) at the enemy. Maybe this is one of her magic powers too, but she didn't have time to think of that. Without a word, she erected a barrier to herself; just in case.

With that done, she proceeded to physically attack the wheels via barrier punches and kicks in unison with Alice's diamond-leaves throw, hoping that their combined efforts would be enough to defeat all three of them and thus, saving the tree lady.

Central Park - toward the hoard

"She's right, come on let's go!" Poko the Bow said excitedly in response to the pink sparkly girl's suggestion. Alyssa was still a bit conflicted on whether they should be fleeing or fighting. Honestly she wanted to let the police or the military or someone trained for... Well, not for THIS but for combat situations to handle these monsters. But that didn't seem to be an option.

After taking a deep breath to steel herself for the unknown Alyssa starts to follow after the shadowman and the other girl(s) slowing down as the monsters start to freeze themselves and try and trap the lead girl with ice, she started to fire arrows at the monsters to thin their numbers and try and buy the shadowman and his girl some time while the others closed in, assuming they hadn't decided to run afterall

Central Park
With Heather's familiar acting as the bulwark as the pushed forward, with the rest of these strange girls moving up from behind, Heather herself was left in a rather awkward position. All she could do right now was take a few steps as T.D.M. did, standing around, and flinching every time one of the wheels got too close for comfort before one of the rest of the group swatted it back.

I mean, she certainly felt frightened and bewildered by all of these things happening in the last 30 minutes, but she felt a little...unimportant. If it weren't for this giant floating armor of a man telling her that she was "intertwined" or whatever, she might as well have not been here. Right now, she was essentially holding the leash to a very large and scary-looking dog.

In between battering a wheel in the nebulously-defined face, T.D.M. looked over his shoulder after she thought that remark, as if to say "DO I LOOK LIKE A HOUND?" or something like that. He didn't offer any kind words of encouragement, and even if it seemed cold Heather appreciated his silence. This wasn't the right time.

He did offer a set of sudden and very loud words of command, though, causing Heather to jump. "YOUNG MAGISTERS, BEFORE US IS...A BRIGHT DISC...OF SOME SORT," he said, pointing forward to the portal with a very dramatic finger. "I KNOW NOT WHAT IT IS, BUT WE MUST DESTROY IT! YOUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT!" It didn't really occur to him that these thoughts may have already crossed their minds, but he felt like it was important information to relay.

Central Park (Rosalie, Heather, Alyssa, Velita, Caitlyn, Maike)

Rosalie stayed behind the Darkmaster as they made their way towards the source, supporting him the best she could. Between their efforts, coupled with the archer girl's arrows, it didn't take long to come to the portal.

By now they were close enough to it to see the other side, and just looking at it was enough to make her shudder a little. As the Darkmaster said, they had to destroy it. The problem was that there didn't seem to be any way to destroy it from just looking at it. It was a tear, not a doorway; there didn't seem to be anything supporting it. Nor did there appear to be anything that was obviously generating it.

All the same, Rosalie tried attacking it by psychically grabbing some of the nearby monsters and throwing them as hard as she could at it. It didn't work; one monster just got thrown through it, while the other flew past it as if it wasn't there at all. The latter wound up colliding with a few others, making all of them go up in black smoke.

Whatever they did, they had to try it quickly. This close to the source, the number of the monsters was practically too high to count.

Crossroads

The second Alison stopped struggling, the monsters settled down in a manner not dissimilar to a mosquito that had found a host. Indeed, what they were doing now could best be described as feeding. Everything that made her a person; her emotions, her memories. Alison could feel them slipping away by the moment....

...Which was why it was incredibly fortunate that the monsters were too focused on feeding to react efficiently to the combined efforts of Aki and Alice. Before long, the lot of them were reduced to smoke, and with their death Alison would feel her sense of being returning. She'd likely feel a little out of it, but it seemed the monsters failed to inflict anything that couldn't be recovered from.

However, the monsters' demise didn't take away the ice she was covered in, or any damage they managed to inflict on her. Taken all together, it'd probably take a bit to actually get her back in the fight.

Crossroads — Back to normal?

The wheels found no resistance from Al's part and continued doing their thing until she could barely remember who she was. Her torpid state of mind simply muted everything going on in her brain. She didn't even register what was going on because there practically was nothing to register it with.

Luckily, Aki's and Alice's actions saved Allison from the parasites. She took a deep breath, as if she had just now realized that she was alive. For all intents and purposes, she wasn't just a few seconds ago.

Al's leg was bleeding and hurt as all hell, she couldn't see anything and moving her body was extremely difficult but that wasn't important right now. Her mind was a swirling mess of feelings and emotions that she couldn't properly process.

Her name was Allison. She was born in Layton, Utah. She was... fourteen, no, fifteen years old.

Bit by bit she remembered more and more from her life. Watching The War of the Worlds for the first time. Her friends Matt, Barbara, and Laura. Her playing basketball in elementary school. Moving countless times all over the country. Getting to Newbury. Aki.

Her armor fell off from her body, leaving pieces of wood laying around her. She was exhausted, confused, and, most importantly, shivering in terror because of what she had just experienced.

Aki I Crossroad I Are you all right?!

With the fighting settled and everything, Aki then approached Al, looking incredibly worried. She is definitely not looking too good, anyone could see to that.

"Hey, are you okay?!" shouted the girl, grabbing and shaking the other girl's shoulder a bit before noticing the blood on Al's legs. That alone is enough to completely alarm Aki to how hurt she is, in addition to her utterly shivering from what happened just now.

No...

"D-don't worry! You'll definitely be all right, you hear me?" she spoke, this time a bit gently, trying to console her as she lay her hands on her, ready to help her stand up or attempt to carry her, if need be.

She then looked toward the new girl, whom she... inadvertedly may have brought into this mess. But there's other times to think about that later! "H-hey! Can you please help her out? I'm not sure she's feeling too good," she requested of Alice.

Even as she did so, her hands began to emit a small, green glow, just barely visible under the morning sky. Allison could slowly feel her pain softening up and her wounds being patched up naturally, though Aki herself is oblivious to this phenomenon as she looked at Alive pleadingly.

This close to the threshold, and things were getting hectic. Yes, in comparison to before, this was certainly worthy of being called hectic. Even with how quickly he was breaking the enemy apart, T.D.M. was starting to become overwhelmed with sheer numbers. With every limb of his, including the many tangentially existing ones, barely protecting the both of them it was only a matter of time before his defense broke down.

Heather was practically hugging the backside of T.D.M. as they moved, noticing the extra effort he was having to put in, and certainly not taking it well. Now the stress of her constant dodging was practically too much to handle, and she was only holding it together with great effort.

And the wheel that smacked into her head wasn't doing any favors, either.

One had circled around, whether it was smarter than its brothers or just lucky was yet to be seen, and avoided T.D.M.'s onslaught. Moving back around, it had bounced and launched itself directly at Heather, knocking into her with enough force to push her off her feet. The Darkmaster immediately noticed, and turned to his master's aid with a loud, guttural growl, and grabbed at the offending wheel. Many others took this opportunity, with his back turned, to launch their own counter attack!

Three of them at once latched onto his back at once, with others trying to grab hold of his arms, all leaving a covering of ice. They had moved so fast that the one wheel he had grabbed couldn't be torn in half like he wanted, the joints in his arms frozen together. And though he summoned more spectral arms to tear at the offenders on his back, more swarmed around him to replace those lost. The few who survived long enough to attach themselves firmly began to feed.

Both Heather and The Darkmaster felt it, in the same way. There wasn't really a need to go anywhere, or do anything. They would be just fine if they stayed here, right? From what they knew, these things were everywhere, so even if they fought forever, there's no way they'd win. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if they stopped caring and died. New experiences are always fun like that.

With his vision hazed over, T.D.M. looked down at Heather, who was looking at him back with the same glazed look...and he realized, with a little burst of clarity, that this would mean his goal as a protector would be for nothing. Though he couldn't move his arms, his legs still worked! T.D.M. slammed with all of his weight onto his back, smashing those that were attached and breaking apart just enough ice to give him a good arm to work with.

The second that Heather's thoughts returned, she felt absolutely awful, and she had a good thought in mind to describe how she saw the situation: "Oh god, get me anywhere but here!" A pile of shadow arms came up from the ground underneath her and launched her with enough force to reach the waiting arm of T.D.M. as he launched himself backwards. Truthfully, they still had a job to do, and into the portal was still definitely not there, right? The both of them went beyond the threshold, and aside from a very odd color scheme they had little idea of what to expect on the other side.

Caitlyn also stayed behind TDM as the group got closer to the rift. Or void. Or whatever that thing floating in the air was. She felt a little bit weird about using TDM as a sort of meatshield, but there weren't really any better options.. were there?

She tried to destroy the creatures as they got close, but their numbers were overwhelming. The best course of action would probably be to plug up the hole they were coming from, but how? As the girl in the pink outfit demonstrated, it didn't seem to be affected by physical attacks.

As she thought, one of the creatures latched onto the girl who was controlling(?) the armor guy. It did.. something to the two, and the creature's friends swarmed up TDM's back...

Caitlyn couldn't help but freeze.

A feeling of dread crept up through the bottom of her stomach. She didn't want that to happen to her. But she had to help them somehow. What would she do? ...What could she do?

Move.. Move! Despite her thoughts and desire to help, something in her mind wouldn't allow her to. Maybe it was that annoying little self preservation instinct?

The spell was finally broken when TDM slammed all the creatures off of his back. Caitlyn shakes her head to bring herself back to reality. it was a miracle none of the creatures got any ideas while she had that mini panic. .. Okay, she was a little frozen but that was definitely not as bad as it could've been. Breaking the ice off of herself as best as she could, she unclenched her fists (had they been clenched that whole time?) and faced the portal. Or was it more of a tear? .. Okay, the terminology can wait. What do I..

.. And TDM stepped through the portal. Which left Caitlyn with two choices. Follow, or stay out here with the horde. On the one hand there was the possibility, no, inevitability that there were more of these things in there. On the other, they might be able to stop the creatures from coming out in the first place. Hitting the portal from out here wasn't the solution...

Caitlyn steeled her nerves, swallowed her feeling of dread, and stepped through the portal as well.

Crossroads — Aftershock

Allison was still coming to terms with what had just happened when Aki reached her and told her to not worry. Al suddenly regained her senses and tried to speak but she could barely form a complete sentence.

"A—Aki... I, uh, I can't see. I can't see!"

The sudden relief in her bleeding leg briefly made Allison not think about her vision but her mind immediately went back to her almost dying at the hands of whatever those wheels were.

"They almost got me" grabbing Aki's arm with more strength than she needed to, her tension was evident "I... almost died"

Aki I Crossroads I Nobody's Dying Under MY Watch!

"Shhhh, it's okay. You're okay now," Aki tries her attempt in calming the poor girl down, who'd just had her life flashed right before her. Whatever those things did, it must've done something horrifying to have her turned like this.

Although she was hanging onto dear Aki as though her very life depends on it, she doesn't mind. If that could help her in any way, then she could cling to her all she want. As she thinks this, Aki tries to think of a way to lighten up the mood, if only for a little bit.

"... You know, tree lady, my offer to bring you to the hospital is still up. I still haven't really paid you back for bumping into you in the middle of nowhere, heheh!" she sheepishly grins. "And I guess I also... made you turn into a tree...? Yep! That's probably my fault too, now that I think about it, haha," This time, her chuckles and smile were becoming less subdued and more natural, clearly hoping to raise Allison's spirit up with casual talk and humor.

"Sheesh, for an awesome and amazing magical girl like myself, I sure am a clumsy girl. Maybe I should rename myself 'The White Ditz' instead. What do you think, Al?"

Crossroads

While Al was safe from the monsters now, Alice could plainly see that the physical harm they left was having an impact. While Aki asked her for help, she couldn't do anything about it. It was a good thing that Aki could apparently heal people as well.

Alice realized after a few moments that the ice wasn't being removed by whatever Aki was doing. If she didn't act soon then Al would probably die from the cold. Thinking quickly, Alice ran up to the ice-covered girl and started using on of the leaves she hadn't thrown to carefully chip away at as much of the ice as she possibly could. After doing so, she couldn't think of anything else she could do to help her except maybe... she really didn't want to take off her coat but this was more important than her own desires. Alice quickly took her coat off and draped it over Al.

While Alice couldn't put on the same demeanor as Aki, she still sat down by her and silently watched with a look of concern on her face.
