Yeah, I do wonder where they're going with the yuri thing. This episode made it pretty explicit with the hot and bothered lines and lily motifs.

yo the last 5 eps gay as hell

FTFY.

Can Yayaka join Cocona and Papika or vice-versa? The character dynamics feel more genuine when she's around.

They really make the Vengeful Ghost Yuri Aesthetic work for them....It's really good.

I actually chuckled a little every time "gokigenyoOou." Creeplarious. [lol]

Just give the ghosts what we all know they want and they'll let you go with the fragment.

I don't think it's just that world that gets Cocona hot and bothered.

Also featuring hetero twincest subtext.

Yay! More magical girl transformations!

Good night, doll. sad

Really cool save, Yayaka. surprised

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

So here's a couple theories on just what episode 5 was about:

  1. It's specifically a criticism of class s style yuri (Mariasama Ga Miteru and the like). In particular you'll note that the true horror of that world was the time loop. Yuri is fine, but progress is essential
  2. Tied to a larger WMG, the idea here is that the various worlds are shaped by the girls' feelings. In this case Cocona is insecure about her sexuality (which would explain part of episode 3, too)

Also possible that both are true

That was... while 'gay as hell' was an objectively accurate description, the thing about them being warped by the internal logic of the world and the implication that the gayness was part of that kind of retroactively makes the rest of the series somewhat less gay, y'know? One of those things where it makes it less likely to ever make the gayness explicit.

6. Probably the best episode so far. Mostly thanks to Cocona and Papika spending little time with each other. Alzheimer's disease is a difficult subject to tackle, and its depiction seemed very accurate with my own experiences. Nice of them to help out a friend.

Yeah, this was the best episode. Good approach to the subject matter, executed well.

The episodes are so different I don't think you can really call one "the best"

So now it's pretty undeniable that the dimensions are being influenced by people's thoughts.

Episode six made me choke up, in a good way, with its ending.

This episode made me physically angry because I have no other response at this point to watching someone deal with what is basically their only good parental figure lose their memories and self and forget them and fuck why does this show have to do it so well.

Because recently a few shows have been doing an amazing job of illustrating how fucked up it is to lose someone (literally and figuratively), which is a good thing.

Also Cheer Danshi did meh at this, so we HAD to get someone to actually do good by the topic.tongue

Episode 7 is out. The many faces of Papika

Yet another episode where I had no idea just WTF was going on, but I feel like I was closer this time than usual. Maybe I should watch it again just for the sake of figuring out an answer for once.

Speaking of answers, it's a shame that even when directly asked, the Flipflap is still incapable or unwilling to provide any. You'd think that the girls would at least be entitles to knowing something about those baubles they've been risking their lives for. Perhaps if they did Cocona would've given a flip (or flap) for Yayaka running off with it.

Liked the little tour past all those little anime clichés. Not sure what was up with it, but it was funny. Perhaps Papika was feeling insecure about being refused by Cocona, and unconsciously shifted into all these new personalities to find one Coco would find pleasing? In the end, though, the one that Cocona wanted to see was the one that showed up to catch her as she was about to fall. Or something, I'm not a very abstract-thinking person.

Also, another look into the cuckoo clan, where Yayaka is being pushed aside in favour of the wonder twins. Who are these people anyway, and why do they seem to know so much more about Pure Illusion? Ooooh, maybe they aren't even human.

Remember that Pure Illusion is shaped from the subconscious of the first person in (or first rabbit, as the case may be). This episode was Cocona figuring out how she felt about Papika - and, well, let's just say we aren't looking at a "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship here.

Cocona loves Papika as an imouto AND a delinquent boy AND an ojou-san AND a sexy jazz girlfriend.

Was what I got from this episode.

Well, that's certainly the strangest (and creepiest) date episode I've seen

If only the devil girl stayed around a bit longer, Cocona might have come out of the closet

[up]What did you think that whole 'Do you love me?' 'As a friend?' '... really, girl?' 'Oh, right, sorry.' exchange was all about?

The closet is splintered wreckage in her wake.

What if the "real" Papika who pulled Cocona into the helicopter-thing at the end just disappeared?

Bad end.

So, I just watched the first episode.

Goddamn, this couldn't be more Gurran Lagann if it was Gurren Lagann! But that's not a bad thing, since the art-style and the direction is awesome so far

Edit:Watching the second episode right now, and I take it back. This isn't like gurran lagann, this is the anime equivalent of LSD, cause HOLY FUCK is this trippy as balls!

Which brings up an interesting question, would this anime be a better or worse experience if you were tripping balls?

I'm thinking that Yayaka is going to outlive her usefulness pretty soon. So she better wise up and jump ship pronto, or else she's screwed.
