I am thrilled to see they cast the Parrot in a Tuxedo with Wee Spider Hands.
John Oliver makes everything he touches better. He can heal the Pridelands and the world.
Like some people already said, Jon Favreau did a splendid job with The Jungle Book, so I have a good feelings about this.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Splendid.
Yeah sure.
I finally watched The Jungle Book (2016) and I completely get the praise it got, and now I understand the excitement for a new Lion King based on that technology. In fact, while the kid who played Mowgli was good, he came across as the weakest point of the overall film.
I did feel like there was a bit of a problem with the use of Celebrity Voice Actor, which might be a bigger issue in a film that doesn't have any live action performances.
How does this thing even qualify as live action.
That's my question at this point. Why not make it 100% CGI at that point?
The background might be live-action. Though that would technically place this film in roughly the same category as Disney's Dinosaur, which nobody considers live-action.
How would the background be live action? They'd most likely be using green screens. Soooo they would have cameras pointing at an empty set and everything would be added in post :p
I don't think the phrase "live-action" was used in the original press release, but I could be wrong.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. How many times do I have to say this everywhere: Disney has NEVER called it an upcoming live-action film, either in the press releases or official website. People just assume they did and that's why this thread got made in the live-action forums.

What else to call it then? Realistically-animated Lion King, I guess?
CG Lion King Remake, or John Favreau's The Lion King, or The Lion King (2019).

Peace is the only battle worth waging.I was really hoping that Jeremy Irons would reprise the role.
The page you linked gives a "Not Found" message. This should do the trick.
Well, in their defense, it might be partially because Mr. Irons is preoccupied with being the head of security for a certain Dark Knight at the moment. Besides, didn't his voice give out during "Be Prepared" and Jim Cummings had to take over for the rest of the song?
In any case, this is yet another case of interesting casting. "Be Prepared" is probably going to sound particularly interesting given Mr. Jackman's singing chops...

His voice gave out during the "YOU WON'T GET A SNIFF WITHOUT MEEEE!" scream in the song's penultimate chorus and Cummings had to fill in the final chorus. The problem is more that the scream was too intense and fucked with his throat rather than Irons's throat being weak or anything of the sort.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Not sure how I feel about Jackman as Scar, considering I'm far more used to hearing his singing done heroically. Might be because his last stint as a singing villain still baffles me.
To be fair he was objectively the best part of that film by far. And that is the film's best scene.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."It's an odd scene for a Peter Pan movie in the first place, and really didn't fit in with the rest of that movie at all.
Apparently Jackman isn't playing Scar[1]
Hopefully Irons can return now.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Chiwetel Ejiofor in talks to voice Scar[1]
John Oliver as Zazu[1]
