I posted about this in the trope discussion, but the Funny Afro trope is being misused throughout the entire wiki. The current description of the trope too needs some fine-tuning but essentially, it seems to suggest that in order for the trope to be in play, there has to be in-universe acknowledgement of a character's afro being funny.

However, in practice, people are applying this trope to any character that has an afro, regardless of whether or not it is commented on in-universe. Examples include Uvogin's character page from Hunter X Hunter, Corbin Bleu's description on the High School Musical page, and Sazh and Dahj Katzroy's character segments on the Final Fantasy XIII page. There are easily more, but these were the ones I came across.

As I stated in the discussion page, a character/person having an afro does not equal this trope. Afros are not inherently funny; they're literally just another hairstyle. This trope should only be used when a character's afro becomes a source of comedy in-universe i.e. the creator of the work uses the afro to make a joke.

Also, the description seems to be focusing on Funny Afros in the context of manga/anime. Since this trope doesn't seem to be anime-specific, I think the description should match/include how the trope manifests differently in works from different global regions. A discussion on the popularity of this trope in the Western Context would be helpful considering its popularity in the West has waned alongside the style's falling out of popularity amongst black men and women. (Afros in general are having a resurgence thanks to the natural hair movement, but the classic 70s afro that is referenced by this trope is still out of style.)

Lastly, there are a lot of examples on the page that reference a visual gag done in animation (most popular in anime) in which a character's hair will be in an afro after something explodes in their face. While related to the concept of Funny Afro, I'm not certain they are the same. Consider making it a subtrope?

This should go to the General Apperance Thread cleanup in LTP.
