A good place to end is Chapter 25. And now Tokuno even made a Toukobon-exclusive prequel, i.e. when Aoba and Nene were in school.

Well, before I can get through the minimum of 4 arcs in this episode, I'd want to say Happy Birthday to Kou when it's still 8/2.

Episode 5.
Part I (Chapter 6):

  • I'm still puzzled as for why Kou asked Hajime and Aoba to buy a stylus, especially when Rin commented that it's a predictable development.
  • These days Wacom offers 8 types of styli in the US, but it sounds like they may be offering more varieties than this...
  • I think the point of this chapter is to show Hajime's weakness: doesn't have a well position on herself.
Part II (Adopted from Chapter 13):
  • The thermostat is understandably a common office shenanigan, but I haven't saw it made into fiction very often.
  • Aoba has a case of insistent naming for her working clothes, and Yun has Weight Woe. For the latter case, pretty bad I'd say.
  • Hm, does Cintiq tablets get hot that easily?
  • After all, Rin is the director, so Beware the Nice Ones is somehow expected of her.
Part III (Adopted from Chapter 14):
  • Important Manga/Anime divergence: In the manga, Aoba arrives on w Saturday, which is why Kou isn't there.
  • As noted on the trope, Kou is really meticulous on the details—and looking at Hifumi's response, she also seems to dislike people touching her desk.
  • While I expressed similar sentiments while marathoned through the manga a few weeks ago, I'd like to repeat. The way Rin said about Kou makes the latter sounds like a milder version of Mashiro Shiina. (More the irony: Mashiro is voiced by the same seiyuu as Rin.)
  • The way Love Flowers were drawn around Rin during that scene confirms she's a lesbian. As I mentioned, I tried not to interpret characters as homosexuals, but is willing to if that is the only interpretation.
  • "Change"—in troper terminology, Character Development—is the keyword of this section; Kou has changed (a bit), Hifumi wants to change her social anxiety issue (maybe), and there's of course Aoba.

[up] Rin's the Art Director. The position of Director belongs to Hazuki.

Man, they are going to kill Sophia off :(.

That's got to really hurt Aoba, your first character, the concept is based on herself and they are going to kill her off via bandits... Not even the main villain... Just bandits...

Who would want to discuss the first few chapters of Volume 5 now? They're newly scanlated, and for a non-spoiler synopsis: it's about Aoba and Nene's school days.

Hotaru's intro looks like Kou's, but she doesn't seem like the same type of character.

[up] Bought it, but haven't read it yet. It appears that volumes 4 and 5 were released simultaneously, since volume 5 is essentially a sidestory.

[up] Tokuno had been churning out tons of content since the anime announcement. He's been publishing 2 chapters per month since then, and Volume 5 isn't even published in Kirara Caret.

To me, the anime is good so far for the first episode, but it seems the other viewers have serious issues about all the impossibilities of it.

It seems to me you've got some issues about all the impossibilities of it, yourself. Having said that, I'm curious now...who are the folks you refer to?

[up][up] Most criticism i've seen went along the lines of that it's hardly a realistic portrait of what it's like to work for a smallish game developer and especially hiring a newbie who can't even use the industry's most used character design software is just not done. Also some general complaints about the fanservice, especially whatsherface habit of sleeping in the office in her panties.

Legitimate complaint...and typical complaint.

Worth responding.

I think just looking at the opening, if you're watching this expecting serious stuff you are watching the wrong anime. [lol]

Thanks for the replies: I'd tend to agree with that people are expecting a little too much from an anime that's plainly presented itself to be about fun rather than seriousness wink So no, it is not a legitimate complaint when the anime makes it abundantly clear that it's not meant to be serious in any way.

Also, this is for Sam Curt: the article answers most of your questions about the so-called "bugs" in the anime, up to and including episode three.

I've quite honestly gotten so used to seeing Yagami sleep in her panties that it doesn't even register as fanservice in my mind any more. ._.

It helps that the anime doesn't dwell on her in a creepy way either... [lol]

Chapters 36 and 37 scanlated.

  • Chapter 36: A Foreshadowing for Volume 5.
  • Chapter 37: A Shizuku X Ahogon chapter; Shizuku explains her recruitment standards.

Really, is Ahogon that embarrassing? Some stated its similarity to Ahegao, but I don't think they're so similar...

Well it is Ryukyuan and on mainland Japan being Okanawan can sometimes be met with discrimination, or less maliciously misunderstanding since culturally they have more in common with Taiwan than Japan, and are trying to hide it.

Edit: There is some Alternate Character Reading of it, can't find out exactly what though, the way she writes it is different than it should be apparently. Thinking it might be as simple as phonetic Aho = Idiot and Gon = smack hard enough to make a gong sound... so 'Ahogon' = 'idiot slap'.

Her name's pronounced Ahagon actually. Yagami says her name in hiragana so there's no confusion there on my part.

So then it is just because it's not Japanese? Our New Game page might want to remove the Alternate Character Reading potholes then.

[up] It still is Alternate Character Reading. The difference is Ahagon certainly comes from the transliteration of some Okinawan term whose meaning is lost now.

In case viewers get misunderstood, CR made a mistranslation here. Aoba didn't ask for a barium enema, she was just talking about barium meal, which goes from the mouth.

Anyway, finished volumes 4 and 5. The latter gives more information regarding the company and why Aoba got the job.

Hazuki performed a secret interview disguised as a random chat before Aoba's actual job interview. Just to see what she's like. It was ultimately Hazuki who pushed for Aoba to join the company under her wing because she's cute, motivated and seemed to be a good girl. Also, there is at least one other dev team, headed by a an effeminate man heavily implied to be gay. That's where all the men went, since Hazuki made a deal with him so she could get all the cute girls on her own team.
