I knew about the bow in the dining hall.

If it makes you feel better, just recently I found a treasure chest I'd never seen before. You know that cave under the castle where there's a Talus sitting on an updraft? And the updraft takes you to a walkway into the castle? Opposite the walkway is an alcove with a chest in it.

Two horse questions that came to mind after a session yesterday, haven't found an answer yet.

1) Does the temperament mean anything once it's 100% tamed? Wild horses are more difficult to tame, but don't seem to behave any differently from Gentle ones once they are fully tamed.

2) What does the Strength stat actually mean? Attack power, durability, or what?

Not sure on the former, but I believe the strength stat on a horse dictates how much damage they do to an enemy when you trample them.

Wild ones seem to protest more while being tamed. But at the endgame? I can't really tell.

I wonder how many people, like me, skip most of Hyrule Castle and just use Revali's Gale to get to the Ganon Fight.

IIRC wild horses buck you off if you don't calm them, while gentle ones just slow down.

So my current run, I decided to try fighting Ganon with ten hearts, two stamina wheels, no Divine Beasts, no Master Sword, no memories. Didn't even talk to Impa. Just to see if I could do it. And last night I did it.

I did upgrade my armor pretty far, but without talking to Impa, there's a lot of useful stuff you can't get. You can't buy anything from Robbie. No dragon parts, except for the few available in chests.

So I loaded up on hearty food and attack up food. Underestimated how much I'd go through of the latter. But I did it! I beat Ganon and all the blights, and when Zelda asked if I truly remembered her, I said, "Sorry, lady, not a clue!"

I think this is the best I've ever gotten at a video game. Which isn't saying much, but still.

Hmm, that was interesting.

Doing a sweep of the Castle surroundings, and a Blood Moon is about to happen. I teleport down to a stable shrine, and start towards the stable as the 10 minute warning starts. Just as the "saving" thing when you get into the stable area hits, so does the BM.

Only instead of the usual BM cutscene, the screen goes all black. None of the game controls work, but the system isn't locked up as I can still hit the Home button to go back to the game selection screen. I do so and close out the software then reopen it, loading the savegame at the stable in question at exactly midnight in-game, and continue on my way, which includes a stop at the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab for some more Ancient gear to replace what I burned on the Castle sweep. I then head down towards the stable to the south of the lab, only to find out that the decayed Guardian I usually pop along the way isn't renewed by the BM.

I fast travel to the Central tower and look around, and the Guardians that should be there are also still cleared out. Waiting until night to check the moon status (which also gives me a chance to snag the Star Fragment that apparently fell when I wasn't paying attention, as the tower 'port was around 3am and I wouldn't have made it to the Fragment before it vanished with the dawn), I see that the moon coming up is a regular full moon.

At a guess, the save negated the BM before it could reset everything but after it reset the BM timer. Odd, in any case.

That is odd! Software is a funny thing.

I'm always a little sad when Blood Moons hit because clearing out monsters and having them stay gone feels like I've made progress in this ruined world.

I'm debating about whether to continue to play from that point and see when the next BM hits or to go to the autosave before that point. Part of me is curious about the end result of continuing on, but the other part of me doesn't want to run the risk of something being broken by the event.

[edit] Decided to continue on anyway. For the most part that one is just a "general dicking around" account. If it's somehow broken (doesn't seem to be, so far) no big loss to just nuke it.

That's honestly creepier than the actual blood moon. I remember a somewhat similar thing happening in Wind Waker once. I was sailing to Windfall Island from the south, and the game went to black like a cutscene was going to happen, and then it just didn't. Gameplay resumed as normal, and I kept sailing. It was weird and freaky, and to this day I have no idea why it happened and can't find anything online about it.

[up] That's happened to me multiple times doing exactly as you did. I think because of the extent of the scripted events going on in Windfall Island, the game kinda of has to 'reset' the area depending on certain conditions and how you're approaching the island, so a quick fade to black and resume to zip all the scripted instances to where they should be is the best theory I can think of.

Just rode a Sandseal for the first time in this game. It's useful. Also working on farming Lynels so I'm ready to quickly upgrade my Barbarian Armour once I get the rest of it.

Got some things to do now that I'm back.

By the way, where do I find an Ice Wizrobe with a Blizzard Rod? That'd be very useful. I somewhat prefer the rods to the other weapons (I have an Ice Sword right now in fact).

And also, how do I create High Level Potions. I assume it requires using food rather than insects right?

No. Potions always use bugs not food. Just use high level monster loot like dragon horns

I see.

So I need to use higher level monster parts to get higher level potions then? I'll keep that in mind. Add in Dragon parts, and I can make 30 minute high Level potions instead of the mid levels I've been dealing with.

Use different bugs too. Like if you need armor, use a armored beetle and an armored darner (if it exists) and some other armored bug. Dont just pile all the same type in. Also remember crabs and snails are food not bugs.

Dragon horns make your potion last a good while. Lynel parts are great too bit make sure you're done with your fairy upgrades first

Random thought spawned by a post in the general Zelda thread: Vah Medoh (Rito) and Vah Rudania (Goron) can be seen hinted at by in-game fauna, but what was the inspiration for Vah Ruta (Zora) and Vah Naboris (Gerudo), given that there are no elephants or camels (live or fossils, like the Leviathans from that one side quest) anywhere in Hyrule?

@blkwhtrbbt: Food can be used in making elixirs, so long as there's at least one monster part and one bug/critter in the mix. Of course, said food item(s) must confer the same effect as the bug(s)/critter(s) used. So, for example, if there's already a Summerwing Butterfly and a monster part among the ingredients chosen, you can use Spicy Peppers as the remaining components if you want, and the result would be a Spicy Elixir that also heals a few hearts of damage.

Additionally, some bugs and critters provide a stronger effect than others of the same type, so mixing and matching them actually isn't the best idea if you're looking to make elixirs with stronger effects. The three Darners make more effective elixirs than their Butterfly counterparts, for example.

You can learn more here.

Cool. Thanks a lot.

What about those Blizzard Rods? I already got one from the Snow Bowling Minigame, so that's out.
