The Spider-Man games being PS4 exclusives is definitely Disney/Marvel picking sides in the Console Wars. I used to own a Xbox 360 when it became cheap in the last generation, and I loved it (especially the Xbox wireless controller, the first of its kind, and still the best, though it wasn't rechargable the way it is now) but if I had known then about Sony's huge list of console exclusives, I'd have been Sony all the way, and in the current generation and going forward, the Playstation would be the way to go...I mean the list of console exclusives and libary it's building up is something Xbox Can't Catch Up with.
In a hypothetical sequel, i would love to play as another character other than Spider-Man, like Venom or Green Goblin. Does anyone remember the Spider-Man 1 and 3 tie in games where they let you play as the Goblin(Harry)? they were fun, and i would really enjoy flying around new york for a change.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I loved the playable Goblin sections in Spider-Man: The Movie. I mean it's amazing how they created another playable character with abilities/traversal gameplay so different from Spider-Man yet allowing you to play the missions and showing how it works. I didn't know Harry was there in the Spider-Man 3 game however. My favorite bit about the playable Goblin was that superspeed ability where the Goblin's shoes spits out jet-fire as he runs around and through mooks leaving a trail of fire. I mean that right there is an Iron Man/Superman gameplay verb. The Glider controls on the other hand weren't all that good. What I don't like about the Goblin is that well it's chaste so you don't get to actually kill people. And I don't think you used the razorbats. I am not keen on playable Venom on the other hand, even if it's guaranteed that we will get him owing to that Venom movie's success. I played Venom and I never felt he was especially interesting in Ultimate Spider-Man. Obviously Miles Morales will be playable and eventually Harry Venom...and to be honest, the Norman Osborn of this game seems pretty unlikely to eventually put on a halloween mask and start gliding around.
In terms of boss fights and good old arcade fun, Spider-Man: The Movie, is as fun a game as you will find. And it's the only game which went all-in on aerial boss fights, with the Vulture and then the Goblin. And you had the Shocker as well in an awesome subway boss fight. In terms of boss-fights, it's way better than Spider-Man 2
My dad rented it when I was a kid we got up to the part where you’re trying to track down Uncle Bens killer (or to be more accurate the accomplice of the real killer given the retcon in Spiderman 3) in the warehouse
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price. That part is cool...that warehouse battle and so on. I cheated because I stuck to the ceiling and chases and webbed him and so on. I honestly don't know how that game will hold up today, but it's on PC and graphically it was a step up from the Activision Comics Games and it looks better than Spider-Man 2 on Playstation 2 (open-world games as a rule always compromise on graphics as compared to linear scripted games...and even moreso for the P-S-2 exclusive). It's got Dafoe's voice as Goblin. And it's old-school...like it's level based, so no open-world. But like I said aerial battles (Vulture, Goblin) and intense set-pieces. Some annoying stealth bits where you do the laser limbo thing...balanced of course playable Green Goblin once you complete the game. The Xbox version (as in the first Xbox before 360) had an extra Kraven the Hunter boss fight, which surprisingly informed the backstory of this short-lived MTV cartoon series where Kraven comes in the finale.
But the PC version is awesome: you have Shocker, Vulture, Scorpion, Goblin. And you fight the Goblin three times in the game...the CGI cutscenes are fun, and the score is quite good.

I really got to finish Web of Shadows. I remember it getting god awful reviews, but the last time I played it I thought it was fine. Except for whoever was voicing Spidey, that's still worst V.A he ever had.
Spider-Man and games have been consistent I think. No outright great game until 2018 but nothing like the turkeys you get with Superman and more playable and fun 3D games than Batman until Rocksteady arrived. Marvel also put out some good Wolverine games. X2: Wolverine's Revenge where Mark Hamill voices Wolverine and it's quite good and entertaining...some decent and excellent boss-fights and good mix of stealth and action, and an old-school linear game that I personally am partial too (and Spidey has a cutscene cameo there). There was also a game based on X-Men Origins Wolverine which had a lot of violence and many say it's one of those "game better than movies" examples. Someone mentioned The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.
The 2000 Spider-Man game based on the comics has Venom at his most fun...and an excellent Mysterio boss-fight and VA, the game also sells Spidey as this Hero with Bad Publicity so you have cops chasing after him with shoot-to-kill and there were tense bits at the start that really worked. Spider-Man: The Movie has better overall boss fights. Ultimate Spider-Man was forgettable to me even if it had a cell-shaded look and an Ang Lee split-screen approach in cutscenes.
I wish Monster Ock appeared in other things too.
Secret SignatureWhat I wouldn’t give for something in the vein of Ultimate Destruction. That game was great.
Ultimate Alliance 3 is gonna be the most people see of these guys for a while I bet though.
Just found this out Apparently Ashraf Ismail, the game director behind, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (aka the Pirate game that made everyone forget that it's about digital ninja-spies) and that Egypt Sandbox game would do Iron Man in a heartbeat. I can't imagine an Iron Man game. Because you have a guy whose armor can travel around the world and so on...his adventures and setting don't easily lend to a sandbox. He's never associated with one city and place like Spider-Man and New York. I think a linear approach and Immersive Sim style would work best with Tony Stark/Iron Man.
So I’ve just gotten past the second MJ mission. The reveal of the true nature of Demon’s breath was spoiled for me thanks to Dunkey’s video. This marks the third Spiderman game that’s had a plague as the main threat (Web of Shadows and the first Amazing are the other two). Seems like a series staple just like active crimes and bomb disposal missions. I also completed the Tombstone Boss fight and the first Taskmaster fight. Both were pretty challenging and entertaining in comparison to a lot of side mission fights in the Arkham series
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price. The Batman Arkham games also had a disease plot, in the second and third game. As does the first Dishonored game. as a plot it provides a sense of urgency, heroic stakes, and it allows for an interaction between hero/villain/civilians. If Batman is a crimefighter and detective, Spider-Man's metaphor is 'first responder' so a plague does suit his story well.
I’m not saying its a bad thing I’m just pointing out the similarities. Besides this particular plague seems like its lethal rather than the symbiote and cross species plays which mutate their victims

You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price.Yeah it's not a zombie game...which is what symbiote plagues end up amounting to.
I think out of all of the spiderman games the 2000 one has the most personality
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price.Yeah. It doesn't take itself too seriously, it's goofy and so on. And the closing cutscene of that game with all of them in jail...is hilarious. Bryan Intihar, game director of this game, said he was quite impressed with that.
Good grief is that ridiculous.
Who's that dude who Rhino sends into the ceiling when he sits down? I didn't recognize him.
One Strip! One Strip!I also love the fact that it feels more connected to the Marvel Universe than a good chunk of spiderman games.
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price.Well, this one does have a lot of other heroes appearing (Cap, Black Cat, Daredevil, Punisher, Human Torch etc).
Hell, most of these guys are characters who're known for appearing in Spiderman comics, or debuted in them in the case of the Punisher...who really shouldn't be sitting down and playing cards with those guys due to the whole murdering criminals thing.
It works though, because while comics can be serious, there's always a bit of silliness in them at their core.
One Strip! One Strip!Random mook...
That end cutscene reminds me of that classic Batman episode, "Almost Got 'Im"...
who really shouldn't be sitting down and playing cards with those guys due to the whole murdering criminals thing.
The reason Cap beat up Punisher in Civil war was because he beat him at cards
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price. There's this wonderful comic "Read 'em and weep" (https://comicvine.gamespot.com/spectacular-spider-man-21-read-em-an-weep/4000-97339/). It has an annual Poker game where Spider-Man, Black Cat, the Fantastic Four, and Doctor Strange get together and play poker. This one time, the Kingpin crashes it and decides to get all of them to bid and play him. I absolutely am not going to spoil how that plays out. You guys should absolutely check it out. One of the great single issue fun comics.
So The Punisher is not the craziest Poker player Peter has had.
I know that one. I believe the hero poker game is a regular one.
Also, I believe this predates Fisk trying to kill Peter after he revealed his identity during Civil War, because old Willie would have never showed up if Horn-head was around.
One Strip! One Strip!
Video game rights are completely divorced from movie rights, and as far as I’m aware, Universal doesn’t have a video game studio.
We got a Spider-Man game because Marvel approached Sony about publishing a superhero game, and Sony went to Insomniac and asked who they wanted to work with. It’s a coincidence that Sony has Spidey’s movie rights.
