I am wondering at the optics of this. The City Never Sleeps DLC are all centered on female NPC (Black Cat, Yuri, Sable) and all of them are these sort-of bent cases, you have Felicia Hardy with her fake pregnancy and malingering, Yuri with her loss of self-control and compromising her career, and now you have Sable who is this b—ch goddess. It feels a little distasteful if you step back and see it. It's odd because the main game felt a lot better or at least it didn't stand out so much. Maybe Sable, Black Cat, and Yuri/Wraith team up at the end to form Spider-Man's Birds of Prey or whatever.

Do you think Yuri will show up as Wraith in Silver Linings?

Maybe as a Sequel Hook or something, or a coda. I expect there to be some hint not for the sequel but at least some closure to all the subplots across all three episodes. It just kind of smacks of...Okay DLC is Lower-Deck Episode lets shuffle these strong badass ladies with their characterizations being some kind of professionals in their identities (crook, cop, merc) and spin wheels around them...

If they commit to the DLC being it's own self contained story, then yeah. I expect Silver Linings to feature Yuri's first appearance as Wraith, Black Cat's "death" coming back as an issue, Hammerhead's last ditch schemes after an initial defeat, etc. Everything we've seen in the story so far is going to come to a head, leading up to a final climax.

My theory is Yuri's going to become Wraith and have a small role as such in the final part of the arce, and they'll do the old "Spidey tries to stop her from running by appealing to her better nature, but she escapes anyway" bit as a Sequel Hook, and then Wraith will have a larger role as a supporting character or supporting villain (or both) in the next game.

On the flipside, Turf Wars was light on story in comparison to the first DLC pack, so who knows.

The actual sequel will probably be 2020 at earliest, likely 2021...I am pretty sure the script for that is being worked on as we speak. So this will be it for some time. So I think they'd want to give some proper conclusion, rather than end on cliffhangers.

I'm a little disappointed the DLC is making Yuri and Sable antagonistic towards Peter. For goodness' sake, didn't he lose enough people close to him in the main game?

Are Miles and MJ going to become supervillains, too? Is the pizza guy who delivers to him the Mastermind behind everything?

To be fair, we don't know how it ends.

Given how similar Yuri's story is to both Otto and Li, we could even see Peter using his experiences with them actually manage to keep her from jumping full on into the Dark Side in the 11th Hour.

Silver Sable is Silver Sable, so I expect she'll continue to be antagonistic but helpful (or helpful but antagonistic, or both) at the same time as she pretty much always is.

So I think they'd want to give some proper conclusion, rather than end on cliffhangers.

It's less a cliffhanger and more an open ending for the character, so it'd probably be fine.

Peter's always burning bridges with someone or the other, it's part of the nature of things. He's too trusting, kind-hearted, and naive. Those are his strengths as a person but they also don't make it easy for him to be a full-time professional superhero. And you know Dr. Octopus was always going to be Otto, Black Cat was always going to be Black Cat, Sable's gonna Sable...so it's only Yuri.

Silver Sable has always been an anti-hero.

So while they work together, they're also at odds at times.

Sable has such an odd place in Spidey's mythos. It's like she was originally intended to be his Boba Fett - an evil mercenary archetype - but then she pretty much instantly turned into more like his Lando - a character who is basically a hero but is written as an antagonist sometimes for the heck of it - instead.

You can look at her for five seconds and tell she's from the late 80's. Those kinds of "I'm a ruthless mercenary! Nope, I'm a honorable hero! I'm both!" characters fell out of the sky around that point.

As a result, she gets Hero of Another Story so much that I forget she's supposed to be a Spider-Man character sometimes. She always seems a bit... out of place when fighting Spidey. It's one of the main reasons I'm not worried about Sony giving her her own movie.

Silver Sable was created by Defalco-Frenz in The '80s, and yeah she's a character nobody knows what to do with, being she's a Princess of Symkaria which IIRC borders Latveria or Wundagore, one of those fake countries in Marvel Universe Europe (the movies gave one more of that Sokovia). If you squint you can see her as a kind of Suspiciously Similar Substitute to Black Cat (white haired, attractive, worldly foils for Spider-Man) and also them trying to give Spider-Man his very own Elektra (Greek Princess-esque badass fighter chick) who became this huge hit in Frank Miller's Daredevil. City That Never Sleeps was inspired by gang war storylines in Ultimate Marvel, and Elektra and Sable were in those.

She later spun-off and blended into other Spidey-titles but she's still a Spidey character so she shows up I think for convenience and rights issues.

The Raimi Suit is now a free download as a holiday gift from Insomniac.

I hope everyone who hurled abuse their way over it not being in the paid DLC is ashamed of themselves.

Nope. This just validates their campaign as justified all along. I wish Insomniac did this for the next game just to avoid giving these trolls ammunition.

Also it's an iconic suit and it's a one-of-a-kind look that I quite like. And the suit in the DLC is not quite like the Raimi one. The webbing doesn't feel raised and thick, like wire mesh overlaid on the red top, and it feels a little hastily done. The spider at the back should be big and a little scary looking, like in the first Spider-Man: The Movie game. Insomniac's White Spider Logo actually looks closer to that than this suit does.

Really? They release the suit in the manner they were clearly planning to do all along and you’re still going to complain about it?

Whatever.

Anyway, the update also added a dedication to Stan at the end.

They should've left it out due to how childish people were acting over it. Or at least charge for it.

Though I can respect that they're less spiteful than I am.

I am not complaining about Insomniac. I am complaining about the stupid fans. I am saying that the trolls who called for death threats or whatnot over some digital version of a suit that will obviously never look as good as the suit in the live-action Raimi movies...are in the wrong. I am saying Insomniac should not have catered to that group or demands. It sets a bad precedent.

At least that's how the optics look. Obviously if they were planning to release it all along, all they should have said is that "We have plans, you haven't seen all the suits" for the DLC yet, or you know say outright they're working on it because it's not like it's some spoiler.

Tipping their hand ahead of time because fans are getting rowdy and obnoxious is what would have been catering. Keeping to their schedule (especially since their announcement tweet implies that it wasn’t even a sure thing until the last minute) is much better practice than letting “fans” order them around.

It's the same logo.

I guess that's the live-action and game render debate. That logo always felt bigger on-screen to me (mostly because I saw them many times in the theatre when it came out and in home video), and it was noticeable because it looked like an actual spider rather than the tick like thing you saw in the comics, and which I kind of prefer even if that annoys purists (but then, I am on record for liking and preferring the Goblin outfit over the comics too). This also applies to the Batman Arkham Series skins. None of the movie-version skins or the animated ones felt right to me. They weren't consistent with the aesthetic of the games.

But then, these suits aren't made for me. I generally do not care for customization in these kinds of games. I prefer the suits in the game. The White Spider thing, I liked that when it was first unveiled even if many didn't, at first. And white is one of Peter's colors. His suits are Red, Blue, Black, and White (the lenses and of course the color of his webs).

Is everyone happy now? I have never seen so much giving out over a bonus costume. Look, I’m happy it’s there, I like the outfit, I still remember seeing Spider Man 1 back in the day, but man.
