Condemned by History is a problem trope for many reasons. It leads to edit warring and confusion over what qualifies. In this thread we'll look for bad examples, and look for feedback. Here are the guidelines for this trope:
- The franchise has to be truly popular and loved at first. Things that are So Bad, It's Horrible don't count.
- Simply losing popularity isn't enough. We need to see an actual backlash, with liking it being considered bizarre. Otherwise, every not-so-famous film or concluded television series would be here.
Let's go!

Also, nobody really liked Iron Fist to begin with. The whole thing is lumping a bunch of different shows with different receptions together just because they were all on Netflix.
Somewhat related:
It happened 40 years ago, but this was the time when Disco became a phoenix through House Music.
ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔Why was Milli Vanilli removed? The edit reason was the pretty useless "not an example". Why not? They were very popular once, but then it was revealed that they didn't really sing "their" songs, which led to massive backlash. They're only remembered as a punchline today. This sounds like something that should qualify.
Edit: Fixed typo.

Would "bro-country" qualify? The acts that codified it are still around but have changed their sound, and the copycats either changed too or died out.
I removed Milli Vanilli because, while it's true their reputation got ruined and had a massive backlash after the lip-sync was revealed, does not qualify for DTD. The songs are well-regarded by many, they still get played on 80's-themed radio stations. Is to my understanding that if something is still remembered positively, even if only due to the Nostalgia Filter, it means it's not DTD.
Under this criteria, does 4kids truly count? It has a lot of fans, especially when it comes to Pokémon.
4Kids was already approved to keep, so that criteria is too strict, and Milli Vanilli should be restored. Bleach was also approved by this cleanup thread and should be restored.

Keet cleanupYes or no on "bro-country" being added?
I cannot offer an opinion as I hate country music in general.
@rjd1922 There probably has to be a good reason why Bleach hasn't been restored to the DTD page even if it has been approved from this thread. In my opinion, I see the manga as under Hype Backlash than under Deader Than Disco and there was a live-action film that came out last year with Miyavi as Rukia's older brother Byakuya but yes, Milli Vanilli should be restored.
@Twentington Yes to bro-country added to DTD.

I'd restore Bleach myself if not for fear of causing an edit war.
EDIT: Actually, looking at this thread, I can't find much consensus one way or another on Bleach.

Keet cleanupI've haven't seen people downright put a full-on hate-on-sight for it after they used to like it yet, so maybe not.

MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesFunny, I have seen that exact reaction, along with "it was always crap" reactions. Maybe I just hang out in a more critical crowd.
Oissu!Would The Band Perry count? They went from being huge and critically acclaimed, to having a long chain of New Sound Album attempts that went nowhere which caused accusations of selling out. And nowadays even most of their big hits have been reanalyzed and seen as over-the-top psychosis or narm.
I don't think Bleach counts. All major shonen anime have a Hype Backlash. I'd say, if anything, Bleach still has a better reception than Fairytail. People still unashamedly like Bleach and its fandom is reasonably active. It's just not a part of the "Big 3" like it used to be.
I think Bleach counts. A lot of Anime Fans I know have said that in hindsight, it wasn't very good. And I'm pretty sure I've seen more positive reception nowadays to Fairy Tail than Bleach.
Illuminate!Well, honestly I find Bleach under Hype Backlash than under DTD.
Wait, what are the requirements again? "Literally everyone loved it, then literally everyone hated it (and not because it was Overshadowed by Controversy or anything), to the point that a random person on the street could tell you they hate it, and not a single person likes it today"?
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project! This is tropeworthy, it's just that some people are being too strict. It just has to go from very popular to widely hated.
Keet cleanupSo what examples do you think are valid?
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!I think Bleach, Milli Vanilli, and Twilight are all examples.
Keet cleanupI don't think Bleach is hated enough and Twilight has always had a mixed reception.
Yeah, I too don't think Bleach counts as a valid DTD example, given that there was a live-action film adaptation recently, so I don't really see the point of the possibility of the manga reinserted back to the Anime and Manga section of the page, hence I consider them as under Hype Backlash than under DTD.
Twilight has always been polarising since day one.

The Music subpage has far more examples than any other medium (and some of them are about people). If there are a bunch of (possibly) good Music examples, why not for the other media?

That's more of a case of Seasonal Rot if the earlier seasons are still well regarded. Cut.
