I'm thinking it's going to have a smaller impact than the hugely optimistic expectations some people have for it (a relatively expensive thing that you strap onto your head and blocks your view isn't going to be universally adopted, no matter how cool it is), but I see it having a long-term value that'll make it bigger than some passing fad like motion control.

So, with hardware like Rift and Vive already in the market and some others about to hit, fairly affordable, VR-capable GP Us entering the market, and The Rule of First Adopters already taking effect, I forsee VR finally breaking into mainstream market.
This thread encompasses all applications of VR, including but not limited to video games, movies, social media, military simulations, immersive learning, etc. Discussion of the exciting potential the technology offers to us, the set of potential ethical problems brought upon by the technology, as well as pieces of new and development in the field, are also welcome.
