Oh yeah, Astolfo's creepy boring master. I forgot about her. She's kind of an achievement in and of herself, but then again I'm not the target demo for her kind of shenanigans.

Sexy and so bad as a character it makes them repulsive can happen.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.

Celenike is only repulsive because "repulsive" is her only character trait.

She's boring.

Boring, boring, boringly-boring

I feel like being one-note hasn't stopped some characters from being fapped towards before, but I can't think of any that comes to mind in Nasuland.

Right, okay. Seems like you need to be one-note in a way that isn't fun for the consumer.

I'd argue Scathach isn't too one-note, but that's another can of worms I'm not opening.

Fate is a series that relies heavily on characterization and aesthetic; you either need an amazing design, or damn good character writing. And honestly, I'd argue the former is more important given character design is something universal as opposed to characterization, which only fans can really appreciate.

So if a character has a boring design, 9/10's they're going to be ignored. Just look at how many people prefer Gudako over Gudao simply because the former is drawn cuter. Generic Cuteness definitely plays a role there, but it illustrates the point of how important design is.

I'm trying to think of a character that doesn't quite pass the aesthetic level but is liked for writing besides Mandricardo

....Well there's Shirou. He doesn't exactly have a standout design, but is probably the most popular Fate protagonist.

Then again, he's built like a brick house under that T-Shirt...

Would Gawain's Numeral of the Saint skill work indoors? Or does he have to be outside directly under the sun?

[up]x2 Arash maybe? Super Orion?

edit: [down]Yeah, but it's also a gag special so I'm not sure how much stock to put into that.

Fate Grand Carnival confirms that, yes he has to be outside.

I don't think anyone complains about Super Orion's design, it does everything character design is supposed to do.

I'm gonna say Mandricardo and Emiya Alter.

The latter people have written about at length, as for the former I can't be the only one who thinks his head is just a tad too big for his body.

Yeah... Mandricardo's art is a little Off-Model, but he's still beloved nonetheless. I'd also say any Servant drawn by Koyama Hirokazu, since their arts can get especially Off-Model at times, particularly the mouths, yet a lot of them are beloved nonetheless.

  • In the event you forget which ones were done by Hirokazu: Wodime, Scathach, Skadi, Saberlot, Musashi, Medea Lily, Quirinus, Romulus, and Mata Hari.

Side note, but is it okay for me to return to the forum now?

Fair enough. Arthur and Bradamante maybe? Lancelot? There's a lot of complaints about his face and people prefer his long-hair design from Zero to the one we have.

I always felt if we didn't know the former was (alternate) King Arthur he could have passed for another Saber-type servant. Although it would have Gawain being able to switch places with Arthur make more sense since the two do look really similar, although Gawain has a more "unique" design imo.

Arash maybe?

Arash's design was consistently depicted by Nakahara for several years so that's a no.

Fionn

Fionn's designed by the Chrono Crusade artist.

Saberlot
And Saberlot was handled by Shimadrill.

I have to find that collage of all of Koyama's characters doing that same fucking frown he does.

I mixed up the Lancelots then. And mistakenly added Fionn. On that note though, Moriyama Daisuke's art could apply too. They've only done d'Eon, Osakabehime, and Fionn, but again, the art can seem Off-Model at times, once again including the mouths.

Taiga is probably the best Fate example of a simple, even plain design (there's nothing terribly flashy or provocative about her physical appearance) that nonetheless is loved by everyone due to her writing.

Until she was made a Cat Girl, put in a Kigurumi and had her wackiness level turned to Tiger Dojo levels. But yeah, the sentiment is true for normal Taiga, more debatable with Jaguar Warrior.

Does being able to generate a sun really matter if you don't get the boost indoors? What's he gonna do? Make a sun and then break a window or wall so he and the opponent will be outside?

Bedivere has super basic design, but he's well liked since he's a really nice guy full of LOYALTY and stuff.

It's funny to compare FSN Shirou with how he looks in FGO and it's basically the "be careful who you call ugly" meme. [lol]

I wouldn't say a male Saberface is a super basic design, especially when factoring in the arm.
