Lostbelts are sad but there's nothing that can be done to help them.
I mean really, does it seem like anything good is going to come of alternate histories that are reliant upon weird absurdly dangerous alien trees to exist?

I'm not going to feel awful for it. I mean, I'll be sad, but it's a dream that should never have happened, and in the end it's better that the Lostbelts are gone.

This opinion is from someone who isn't in the Lostbelts yet, so take it with a bit of salt. I think it's kind of a Necessary Evil - sure, the Foreign God needs the wacky trees to do the evil plan stuff, and obviously we don't want that so we destroy the wacky trees. But the Lostbelts are dependent on the wacky trees, and the people in them didn't do much to warrant being Ret-Gone.

The awkward part is they wouldn't even exist if not for the trees, so... whoops? They didn't deserve it but their existence is pretty fragile anyway.
It's an awful situation by design. I feel bad for individual characters, but the Lost Belts themselves aren't particularly sad.
Maybe when the worlds that exist in them become less crap?

Its the embodiment of Gray-and-Gray Morality; the only real antagonistic force is the Foreign God. The Lostbelts are unfortunately in the way of that.
And I get the distinct feeling that they're doing this on purpose to us to break our morale. ..you can only commit but so much genocide before you either break or become numb to it all.

We start with the hopeless situations, move through what is completely stagnant (though LB4 is a particularly bizarre situation), and seem to then be moving through "these people can't even BE saved". Atlantis is a weird one...

Atlantis is a precursor to the stagnation.
Remember that Artemis was just hanging in orbit blasting anything that went against the gods.
And as for 4 that was less stagnation and more literally nonexistent progress because of how Arjuna was literally erasing everyone for more and more minor infractions that got in the way of his "perfect" world.

Stagnation is kind of the theme of all Lostbelts; humanity reaching a point where it can no longer progress, or actively prevented from doing so.
