Huh, I just thought of an interesting idea for an event with an alternate timeline where Yi Sun Shin finally says "fuck you" to the backstabbing ungrateful court, becomes Avenger Alter, and decides to take over Korea with widespread popular support. Now with control of the nation of Korea, he does more than just fight back the Japanese invasion, he launches a full-on counterattack and takes over Japan, then eventually from there launches an assault on China and takes it over as well. Then Chaldea comes in, teams up with true Yi Sun Shin Rider and maybe like, Servant Hideyoshi or something, and rights the timeline. We get an Avenger Yi Sun Shin Alter and Yi Sun Shin Rider, Japan gets to portray Korea as evil. It's win-win for everyone.

I think any Japanese work portraying the nation of Korea in any way is just asking for trouble.

Like, I don't really know the details, but Korea and Japan have been at each others throats from way before WW 2, it's just a very messy, very ugly affair by all the accounts I've had any contact with.

Obviously. And it's a glaring omission, to me at least, that DW has been avoiding putting any sort of Korean Servants in FGO. They'll put in an obscure American tourism advertisement like Paul Bunyan, but won't put in Yi Sun Shin, who is respected even by ancient and contemporary Japanese military figures.

I managed to get Salter to 200K in her final phase before having to use my command seals.

I think I did fairly well.

It would be pretty amusing if see all the novelist, play writer servants get to see the modern adaptation of their work( Anderson watch Disney little Mermaid, Shakespeare watch Lion King or the Hamlet version play by Patrick Steward)

Hans already hates Little Marmaid (though times), so the Disney version would likely make him pop a vessel.

Calling back to the conversation a couple pages back...

From what I've heard in discussions, the memetic awfulness of Fate/Stay Night's sex scenes are more on the translators than on Nasu. Other discussions suggest that Nasu's porn writing was actually kind of bland, using fairly stock Japanese phrasings, but not anything particularly memorable.

Mirror-Moon didn't much like having to translate sex scenes at all from what I've heard, so they didn't even really bother putting in the effort to accommodate for things like turns of phrase and metaphors that might be easily understood in Japanese, but seem strange in English. Basically, imagine if someone was translating English smut into Japanese, and left the audience wondering what's with all the talk about roosters and moist cats, why people keep praying in the middle of the act, why 'approach' keeps being used weirdly like a noun, and what does 'work about chickadees' have to do with sex, and why is there talk about 'custard pie' at the end?

Motherf*cker, you just made me laugh out loud in a library! [lol]

And yeah, while I appreciate the effort the Mirror-Moon guys put in, it's a very flawed translation in numerous ways, you don't need to know Japanese to figure that out.

Also, are sea food metaphors common in the Japanese language?

I understand that red meat from game was considered a rare and valued delicacy to commoners during the Tokugawa era so I assume fish and other seafood was the most common source of protein. That could have had an influence on the expressions people used, I guess?

It's less that it was rare and more that it was considered unclean to butcher animals, if I recall right (jobs like leatherworks were relegated to the untouchable "caste" due to native and Buddhist taboos on blood and killing). I don't know of any fish metaphors myself, but you can make a simile pretty easily in Japanese.

It's been fun.
