Why shouldn't we? Aren't wikis democratic?
(For the record, I have nothing against Personal Space at all)
You may express your opinion of things done by the staff, and we may survey users, either formally or informally, but administrative questions such as what sort of content we will provide and who we will partner with are ultimately staff decisions, not user ones.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"No, the defining feature of a wiki is that pages are edited collaboratively within the browser. That says nothing about the administration style of any given wiki.
Fighteer, you are not wrong. The owners of the site have no direct obligation to clear their advertising related decisions through the community. The motto 'the customer is always right' applies, but this is not an obligation.
But promoting community works, and promotions that fall into endorsement space, as opposed to simple ad space decisions, are both more than that. Both activities are more than just choosing how advertising works. More stuff may apply to them.
So, if one wanted in on this, what would be the protocol? Petition to moderators? Some manner of opt-in public vote? 100 vs 1 kumite blood fight?
Oh, hey! I was wondering if there was a thread for this somewhere. I was expecting it to be in the New Media subforum or something, but I guess it's here! Man, I've even forgotten where the old TWWF thread was. Was that here? It's been almost four years... (what am I doing with my life)
...er, it's all right if I post here, right? This isn't just a mod hangout or something? There seems to be an awfully low amount of traffic here... Even the TWWF crew doesn't seem to have found it yet.

but HOW?We're still discussing what method would be best for soliciting submissions. For now, it's best to just send me a PM and describe what you want to do! We're building that process now.
Ultimately, I think this will end up feeling more grassroots than it currently does. The site is after all a Wiki. It is my sincere goal that this initiative feel like a celebration of the community by the community. The goal is to come together and enjoy awesome stuff.
Well, it got funded! Yay! No thanks to me, since I've just seen this. As for this public announcement thing; well, I'm one of the people who's apprehensive about this.
On one hand, I can certainly see the potential, and I'm hardly envious or anything. However, I would like to know more about what the vetting could be like if this is to be used more often. After all, an ad directed to the readership of a website with this many viewers (http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/https://tvtropes.org), is a considerable amount of media power. If it ends up promoting something that might not necessarily deserve said promotion, the reputation of the entire website will take a hit alongside it. So, now that your project is going ahead, you would better not disappoint us, Tanzmetall. No pressure. ))
Hey, guys! TV Tropes has made an open submission process if you want to get a project highlighted in the Community Showcase. I mentioned this would happen earlier in this thread, so I figured I'd come back and provide the link:
The owners of this site may make promotional arrangements with individual creators, and those arrangements are nobody's business but the parties in question. The idea that the troper body exercises some sort of collective voting power in the matter is kind of weird.
