According to some sources, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, both of whom will be appearing this year's Central Intelligence, are in talks to appear in the remake of Jumanji by Sony Pictures
....why? Why remake this? Jumanji worked because of Robin Williams, remaking it isn't going to go nearly as well with someone else.

Well Dwayne's pretty charismatic, maybe... yeah no i got nothing.
I've liked Dwayne Johnson in everything he's been in, even when the rest of the film wasn't good. Kevin Hart is more hit or miss for me though I haven't seen much of his work.
Robin Williams made the film workable. I don't see a remake being tolerable to watch.
The premise is workable enough. All they need to do is write the film around the premise instead of using it as an Excuse Plot for a funny actor to be funny.
A lot of 80's and 90's comedies were basically, "Throw some shit at the screen, I don't care what, and then let my comedy star react to it."

I don't think the original was nearly as dependent on Robin Williams as you think it was. There is a big difference between how Robin is used in Jumanji versus Mrs. Doubtfire, Patch Adams or even Aladdin, where half the script was probably "Let Robin riff for a half hour, take the best stuff from that." Jumanji was a special effects adventure film; it had its humorous moments, sure, but it was not an outright comedy. It's one of Robin's less "Look at me!" roles.
Yeah it really wasn't a Robin Williams vehicle at all.
Not that i want it remade mind you.
Jack Black is joining the cast!
Goosebumps/Jumanji cinematic universe confirmed.
Were Jumanji and Zathura really the only games in the 'series'?
Part of me wishes they were able to put together something new for this.
Johnson has said on Instagram that the film is a sequel, not a reboot.
Of course sine it's a sequel that'll have nothing to do with the original it may as well be a remake.
Only way they could make a sequel that has anything to do with the original is if one of the main characters mentions talking to Alan Parrish or his wife at some point. Everything but that couple's memories got undone when the game finished.
It's possible they mean sequel in the sense that it's in the same universe and the events if the prior film happened, but it focuses in entirely different characters in a totally different place, as apposed to continuing the same characters' story. Basically a new story with the same concepts, but not a reboot.
Maybe at some point they'll look up the history of the game and come across something the Parrishes wrote about it, assumed to be a work of fiction or something. Or they'll look up other occurrences like that and find something similar from the family from Zathura. You know, the classic "look up supernatural advice online and find a bunch if stuff that's crap, plus the one ominous message/post that appears to be the real deal" scene.

I wonder if they'll account for the girls who found the game at the end of the original film after Alan Parrish threw it into the river. I assume not since their actresses will have grown up by now, but maybe there could be a scene at the start where those girls get rid of the game, the way the original opened with the two boys in the 1860s burying the game.
so now I'll definitely be going to see this because Karen Gillan's going to be in it.
I mean, I was probably gonna see it anyway but now? Definitely.
Thought the kids looked at each other worriedly at the end. Like they knew the old timeline as well.
Normally I'd be ambivalent about this , but these two worked well with each other in Central Intelligience, so I'm curious about how this will turn out
Huh, I forgot they were video game avatars.
Having watched that trailer, I am honestly not sure why this isn't just a new IP. It bears almost no resemblance to Jumanji whatsoever.
Do they really think the name is going to bring in all those die-hard Jumanji fans?

That looks pretty fun to me. And the premise makes sense as a follow-up to the original. Consider me sold.
...what did I just watch? This looks stupid. Incredibly stupid. Fuck, it's so bad it's giving me flashbacks to one of those shitty Rob Schneider films.
