Cue the people whining about not getting DeVito Pikachu. Joy.
Hopefully we'll get a trailer soon.
Yes!
Discussion topic: does anyone think Reynolds' rep as Deadpool gave him the upper hand when it came to casting?
EDIT: Oof, it just hit me. Here's to hoping his performance/attitude/whatever doesn't give anyone at Nintendo or The Pokémon Company a heart attack.

A script by Alex Hirsch with the comedic voice of Reynolds?
This is shaping up rather well.
I still didn't expect to be reading this headline with my own two eyeballs though.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectOh I know, don't worry.
All those comedic voices in one place is something, I must say.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI don't even think Alex Hirsch will be able to make Pikachu talking with an adult man's voice sound good. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt anyone could do it.
This song needs more love. The game managed. They'll find a way.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThat would also be acceptable.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectDang it, now I want to see that instead of Ryan Reynolds!
"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."Did it? I mean, I confess that I don't really know the exact reception that Detective Pikachu received but while I believe that it did well, I never saw anyone showering praise for it either.
Hell the anime couldn't make Pikachu talking work.
This song needs more love.Which anime instance(s) are you talking about? Because the moments I remember where Pikachu talked were moments I felt worked fine. I remember a Pikachu voiced by Tomoe Hanba being in the Mystery Dungeon special, and there was a Pikachu voiced by Rie Kugimiya in a commercial for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity.

The new movie. Pikachu says one line at the end with a noticeably different VA and it was awkward as heck.
Mystery Dungeon works fine because there are no humans.
This song needs more love.Different English VA or Japanese VA?
English. I haven't seen the Japanese version but I heard that it's still Ikue Otani.
This song needs more love.Makes sense. Admittedly I haven't watched Pokémon in English for a long, long time; I'm mostly watching the Japanese version of the episodes and movies.
If it's Ikue Otani speaking as Pikachu...yeah, it'll probably still work for me when I hear it. Which would probably mean the anime did make it work...again.

“Let them fight.”
@dragonfire5000
She did.
Principal photography on Detective Pikachu has begun.
By the way, when do you guys think Ryan Reynolds will be allowed to talk about this movie? I don't know if he's into Pokémon or not, but it kinda feels like he could get jokey about this movie the same way he is with Deadpool.
In fact, I kinda want Detective Pikachu's first trailer to be like Deadpool 2's Bob Ross trailer and be less about the movie it's marketing and more about Reynolds goofing around with his character.
(Like maybe have Pikachu directly mouthing off to the audience about how a lot of folks get turned off by video game movies because the majority of them turn out so bad (like WarCraft), and then going meta by saying Nintendo made the good call in forgetting about video game movies ever since the Super Mario Bros. movie tanked and they'd have to be crazy to have another live-action movie based on any of their games?)
I'd think it be funny if it showed a whole bunch of Pikachu saying their names in their typical Ikue Otani voices, then you have Detective Pikachu try to do the same thing with Ryan Reynolds' voice, only to realize it just sounds wrong when he uses Pokémon Speak.

I really wish Danny DeVito had gotten the Pikachu role, but oh well.
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!
Ladies and gentlemen, we have ourselves a female lead: Kathryn Newton from Big Little Lies!
No word on her role, but leaked audition tapes are suggesting that the character is a junior news reporter who teams with the male lead and his Pikachu to solve a mystery about why Pokemon are suddenly going feral and attack their trainers.
