But, what's Forest Whitaker's game in this one? I've heard rumors that he plays a bounty hunter of some sort, and the trailer shows him doing an Old Master schtick, what with the walking stick and the motivational speech.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisAs awesome as it would be to have some heroic bounty hunters for a change, the Rebellion traditionally has been too financially-strapped to pay for bounty hunters, plus huge numbers of Rebel personnel would have prices on their own heads, which would sway most bounty hunters away from siding with them.
That's hardly surprisingly, considering that it both comes out in less than a year, and we have a trailer for it.
Yes Grand Admiral Daggett certainly looks cool. And it's interesting to see him apparently going out onto the battlefield (that looks like the same beach where the AT-AT fight is taking place, and there are dead Stormtroopers washed up on the shore) in person (we rarely see Imperials officers/Moffs do that). Oh and I really want him to get scenes with Vader, the visual contrast would be too perfect to pass up.
I actually wish they hadn't put an actual Grand Admiral in the film, to see one lose vs a what looks to be a rag tag group of rebels. It is going to basically Worf them, Especially when it took herculean efforts to fight them in the old EU.
It would have been better to fight one when the rebels are better organized and have the ability to really fight.

On the other hand if they portray Grand Admirals as always requiring a herculean effort to overcome regardless of the Grand Admiral in question, then it raises a whole bunch of different questions about why they weren't used to prevent the Rebel Alliance from ever getting off the ground.
What makes Thrawn or someone like him so dangerous shouldn't be his rank, but the fact they got that rank in spite of systematic prejudice against non-humans in the Imperial military and with zero political connections.
Besides I don't really think the Grand Admiral in Rogue One is going to be defeated in battle. In fact he might win every single military engagement on paper, only failing in preventing the plans from being transmitted to Leia's ship.

While I doubt the movie will go this dark, it's quite possible that it will end with the last living member of the team transmitting the plans as they are being killed.
My actual best guess is that 2-3 members of the rebel team will be killed, while the rest (including Jyn Erso) will be captured, critically injured, or perhaps stranded.
I know it's implausible enough to be ruled out for most practical purposes. It's just kind of interesting to have a prequel where none of the characters are truly safe (unless you count Mon Mothma of course, though I'm only really counting people on the Rebel strike force which she is not).
I suppose the reverse is also true. None of them are Doomed by Canon either. The setting is big enough that it's not hard to explain why any characters that do survive aren't in the OT.
Well you can blame GL for establishing the whole "mother figures don't matter in SW films, unless it's to die in order to further the hero's angst." And Disney would simply be guilty of continuing that trend. I REALLY hope that that doesn't end up happening, it feel like forcing (no pun intended) a "connection" where there doesn't need to be one.

Maybe he wants everyone to THINK he's just a regular admiral
