So if someone was given a gender neutral name at birth (like Morgan and Riley) and they transition, is it reasonable that they could choose to keep that name cause it's gender neutral or just treat it like any other dead name and go by a different name instead?
(Tried my best to be careful with the wording as someone who's cis; I apologize if anything comes across as offensive and will edit it if brought up)
I believe that is a choice plenty of people make, but there are also plenty of people who hear "Morgan (in a girl way)" or "Riley (in a boy way)" and consider the name too tainted with their old gender to keep.
I've seen it attested this is a major reason for the trend among nonbinary folks to take words that aren't commonly used as names for their names, because common names are kind of gravitationally attracted to one implicit gender or another even if they're considered neutral.
Yeah, it can easily go both ways, so it's down to personal choice. For a character, either way is valid so don't worry about it and write what fits their personality and experience.

I see, TY both!
It's simple, really:
- Write a character.
- Make them queernote .
Not really that hard to do, honestly.
Hi! I'm still questioning about my gender identity and sexuality, and I sometimes write stories about LGBT themes in order to understanding myself better.
A couple of weeks ago I make a short story about a guy who discover that his ex is now a trans man.
The story focuses on the main character who still has feelings for his ex before he transitioned until now and realizes that he, a heterosexual man, is confused whether he still loves him now or his feelings are gone after he came out to him as a trans man.
Do you guys have a suggestion for this?
Thanks for the help, though.
Not a problem! I'm just sorry that I wasn't able to give a better-fitting suggestion!
Either way, I hope that you find a means that works with your story. ^_^
