Gray romantic relationships can be considered heterosexual unless noted. Since they are a lot more common.
But I do imagine that there would be some cultural taboos this couple would be going against. This is likely to create some doubts, uncertainties and questions crop up in their minds. But more importantly, they would go to greater lengths to keep their public displays to a minimum. And if ever anyone found out...
But I think maybe this is a pretty weak conflict overall, unless you are writing a romance, or rom com.
Well yes we don't know what they are. They didn't say. Oh you meant above about treating them as hetero I think the poster probably meant straight but yes it's important to remember they don't mean the same thing.
@eWolf Somewhat so it's the future the idea that a relationship needs to be both romantic and sexual is eliminated presumably all the issues that come up when two people have a relationship of whatever kind also come up here there are plenty of points of conflict everything from division of labour (actually would be more of a thing in a hetero couple if we also assume a gender utopia where the woman wouldn't automatically be assigned this and of course I do not know your characters genders), to borrowing things, to attitudes about family still presumably exist.

If your future culture is platonic and romantic only, I assume that one night stands are driven underground, delegated to the seedy underworld of society.
This guy is going to have a strange outlook on life according to anyone in your setting who looks at him. He is going to want to have sex with his partner. Which is—weird. Similarly, he won't fall for his partner, instead choosing them for their body. Which is—weird.
Talk to actual Native Americans. A lot. I've been seeing a lot of complaints on Tumblr about people appropriating Two-Spirit identities.

This isn't actually contributing, but I wanted to give a good lol at how straight up that question was.
Way to get to the point!
Uh, the assassin use assassin equipment for kinky sex? Seriously, most sex that isn't in porn is pretty vanilla, be it gay, lesbian, hetero or with transgender. Just research on how to write sex scene in general. I would say that first is whether or not the sex scene is necessary and where to put it in the story.
