[up]Nice. It's still a very good idea even if it's been done before. Good ideas tend to be done a lot for a reason, after all.

This reminds me, though; how long was Nick at the academy for? I very much want Nick to show up alongside Judy for a game of Snark-to-Snark Combat with Sam later, but I'm not sure if, logically, Bellwether's trial would take place before or after Nick was finished. Bellwether was in prison during the movie's credits, but it could have been a holding cell rather than an actual prison. If Nick was still at the academy, though, would they let him have breaks on occasion?

Nick apparently graduated nine months after Bellweather's arrest, but it's unsure exactly when he enroled in the first place.

Oh, I'm in no doubt that it was after her arrest, but I'm aware that there's usually a delay between someone's arrest and their trial. I've heard that these delays can get quite lengthy, in fact.

Considering Bellwether's in prison at the Gazelle concert I'm sure she was tried and convicted pretty quick for what was basically terrorism.

It could have been a holding cell like what Stalkeyes said. Not sure if there's anything in the scene to contridict that; not exactly an expect on the penal system.

In other news, I've already started working on Chapter 5, and at one point, the visiting prosecutor lists all of the crimes that Bellwether has been charged with. I wanted to run them past you all to see if they sound about right. I should note that I've taken some artistic license with the exact names of the crimes, primarily because I imagine Zootopia's justice system isn't exactly true-to-life.

“Dawn Bellwether has been charged with Conspiracy To Commit Premeditated Assault By Proxy, Conspiracy To Commit Murder By Proxy, Actual Premeditated Assault By Proxy, Attempted Murder By Proxy, Facilitating The Sale And Transport Of A Regulated Substance By Proxy, Possession Of A Controlled Weapon By Proxy, Conspiracy To Cause A Mass Breach Of The Peace By Proxy, Conspiracy To Commit An Act Of Terrorism By Proxy, Endangerment Of Civilian Lives By Proxy, Actual Premeditated Assault Not By Proxy, and Littering… By Proxy.”

“Littering?”

“Doug Ramses’ lab made quite a mess of the roads by the Natural History Museum. Took them weeks to clear it up. The public works department insisted on it.”

I'm more surprised that almost all of the crimes are "by proxy" than how many there were xD

I personally went with the nine months thing. That seems like plenty of time to do the whole plot of your story.

BvB4

Ooh, he's a druggie. And this guy, I'm not even sure he's a good guy anymore... his noble goal has been exposed to, uh, just showing why the system is messed up. I'm no longer behind him 100% but I want to see how much lower he can go from there.

At least it's not like Bellwether is 100% the cause of it. She's just part of a bigger problem.

Also, a Bandicoot nicknamed Coco, eh? I know exactly where I heard that before... :)

As for the proxy, I wonder if there's any actual non-proxy crimes attributed to her outside of that list. cool

Also I don't think Nick graduating has much of an effect on the story, save for the fact that he won't be in an actual cop outfit (instead he will be in academy uniform or casual clothes) by the time you need to add him in the story.

[up] Well, that's perfect, then. Exactly as I planned. What you're seeing at the end is his brain on drugs.

As much as I may want to say 'he's a good guy really, honest!', I can't really explain why without getting too spoilery again. Let's just say that this will come back to bite him, and he'll learn something from it. I don't plan on writing Better Call Saul with Funny Animals, as much as I liked that series. :V

I'm glad someone got that reference, too. There'll be more where that came from... but not only from that source, of course.

Born to be Wilde 5

Oh, so is that why the title is like that? Heading to a wild place with wild, uncooperative cops? [lol]

And is that place really an island that's still part of the city? You'd think they'd have built a bridge to it, like Staten Island in NY or something. I wonder if they'll take a ferry, though? Or a police motorboat, which would be super cool.

I am ashamed to say I bought Stinky Cheese Caper but have never touched it. I guess I better get around to it...

Bogo: Ok here's the recap, guys. Exposition! Now, Nick and Judy, here's your new partners. Also, I'm ignoring all their shenanigans when I should really be slapping them with a reprimand and a memo for lack of discipline.

Now this cop with at most two years of experience (Judy) has to babysit the rookie Nick along with these new guys; I'm looking forward to the rivalry of those people, though.

[up] Well since this guy is talking about second chances, I'd like to see what second chances he or the world be giving himself. Right now I really don't dig he's actually a good guy (honest?) anymore but he has reasons to be unhappy about that case from years ago.

I'm ok with a more positive version of Better Call Saul, though...

I just noticed that Chief Bogo has the most lines of anyone in my fic so far. That's...odd, to say the least. Also, I was trying to imply that he's ignoring the shenanigans because they happen to be annoying Nick even more. It's rare that he gets a little retribution. :P

Bogo: Ok Nick, you are an annoying bastard. So I'm putting you in charge of these dudes, let's see you put up with them.

Nick: Well it would've worked, Chief B., except that Judy also has to go along with the plan.

Judy: (turns in her badge) I've done it before, I can do it again! They're all yours, Nick!

Brilliant. [lol]

I'm surprised no one commented on my casual Wham Line about the city having a new mayor. I suppose I'm too subtle for my own good sometimes.

[up] So I presume that's going to be relevant? Then again, I kind of assumed the city would have a new mayor, what with both the previous mayors being in prison and all. Incidentally, I figured to myself that, for a while before elections, they would've had an interim mayor or a provisional council in place, and while they attempted to undo some of Bellwether's 'policies' designed to encourage mass hysteria, some of them managed to slip under their notice. Like 'reforms' to the justice system.

On a completely unrelated and non-spoilery note, I was wondering lately; does anyone else have any headcanons on how exactly Zootopia was created?

Well, sorta. It's kind of just something I decided to add in because I find it more realistic than Lionheart getting his job back.

I believe it was stated that the city was founded around a watering hole because that's the natural place where predators and prey come together peacefully. There was this neat little painting with tribal lions and zebras shaking hands. I would love to see someone really delve into that though if they haven't already.

Or The Lion King [lol]

Yeah, I missed the new mayor line. But it does make sense to me in general that even Lionheart will be deposed since I don't think the public trusts him anymore after the cover-up he did.

[up][up]That would make sense. I like to think that the original Zootopia formed around the Watering Hole eventually expanded and 'absorbed' a number of species-centric towns surrounding it, much like real-life metropolises tend to do. Little Rodentia seems like an example of one of these 'absorbed towns', and there's probably others.

The district of my creation, Mann-Cönn, is one of these; it was originally a fishing town founded and inhabited entirely by cats. It turned into a Wretched Hive after it was absorbed into Zootopia and the fishing business was taken over by marine mammals from the neighbouring Canal District, formerly known as Port Orca. The crime and squalor eventually encouraged an urban revitalisation program, followed by gentrification, turning it into an upmarket residential district and tourist trap.

I wasn't sure if I could've worked that world-building fluff into the story proper, so.

[up] Sure you can. You could just bring it up when you have someone go there (as I assume you will) or have someone not familiar with the place ask about it, like Bellwether once she warms up to our hero a little more.

Just two days ago, actually. Now I'm wondering why yours didn't get in; by all accounts, it's much better than mine. Maybe you should try re-submitting. It's possible yours got lost somehow.

Great. Now I'm going to be worried about this until I get results.
