Hey tropers, the day has arrived. If you were one of our Kickstarter donators last year you've probably seen us tinkering with a new design for months. Within the next couple hours (depending on how fast your DNS updates you'll start hitting our new servers with the updated version of TV Tropes). A huge thanks to those of you who have been monitoring it and giving us feedback throughout the development process. Some of the new features include:
- Updated design throughout for a cleaner browsing experience
- One click sign in with Facebook
- Random Shuffle button to stay on a namespace (hit Random Media then the Shuffle button to randomize that namespace)
- Browse Watchlist in an image view
- History page now highlights sentences that were deleted/added to make it easier to review changes
- New image uploader with built in crop function
- New About Us page so you can see who we are.
- Contact Us form
- Trope Depictions on the home page (artists can submit their own comic to go with a trope)
- Bug List page Query Bugs (and Query Wishlist for tech wishes) to organize and track bugs on the site.
Ok. Let the feedback begin. (See Anxiety Tropes for my current feelings)
Notes:
- Please do not bother asking for the old design to come back. The lease of the old servers did expire at the day of the changeover, the new ones cannot run the old design.
- You can move the sidebar to the left by going into your profile and selecting Lefthand Sidebar.

Search works for me with adblocker on. Not turning that off as long as they use ads to pad out the sidebar width.
Check out my fanfiction!I'm not sure if it's so much adds padding the sidebar as the sidebar having to be padded to fit the requirements for the adds.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI don't know if it's been mentioned already (22 pages!) but the yellow box at the top of forum threads is impossible to read in Night Vision mode, because the text is white. Mod posts (pink background) are hard to read for the same reason. Such posts need to have a fixed text colour (black) or the background colours need to be different in Night Vision mode.
Whichever. Doesn't matter. Sidebar's too wide.

Check out my fanfiction!I find it ironic so many people are complaining about the ads when I filled a bug report because I don't have any. No, I don't use adblock.
I also find it ironic when I tried to post this a few minutes ago Flash crashed on me a few times. Now there's an "Add Post" tab for this thread loading endlessly and refusing to close. Weird Chrome issues, I guess.
@Black Sun: There used to be a badge shop but it never generated enough revenue. There might still be a way to donate somewhere? The kickstarter must have helped the overhaul but I'm not sure how long such money would last.
Maybe the ads could be moved to a different spot then, like the header or footer.
The Protomen enhanced my life.On Night Vision mode, pinned posts are extremely hard to read, with the light pink background and white text. Also the "send" button for making posts is difficult to see with that light gray with the white.
I have similar gripes with others, but otherwise it looks and navigates all right to me.

Life is hard, that's why no one survives. So, I saw this thing earlier today. I logged into my old account I don't think I've so much as touched in years to weigh in here (also, the one-click Facebook sign in was anything but, it took several tries for it to even want to load).
This is terrible. The standard was eye-burning at absolute best, and even night vision isn't great. The green is also eye-burning, the background isn't dark enough, and those pink posts are an absolute stain. The margins are terrible, wide load does nothing to help, and overall, it's just a really terrible update. This sickens me.
May sound like I'm being a bit harsh, but this is supposed to be a place for feedback, and I'm being honest here, I'm not sure a single thing got better, at least as far as visually. It's pretty bad.
A mite dyslexic, please forgive any small errors. There was a thing at one point where you can donate twenty bucks (I think) and not have any ads for a year. I dunno if it still exists, but I've kinda been figuring on doing that when I finally get a semi-steady source of income since, uh, about forever. :/
i care but i'm restless, i'm here but i'm really gone, i'm wrong and i'm sorry, babyI second moving the add on the side to the footer as well if that's what it takes to get the option to minimize that. Assuming that's a thing you mod guys can do.
Re my previous post and related to at least one subsequent one, here's what I see (edited because of hotlinked images error). http://tinyurl.com/tvtropescolours

I'm amused by the amount of people claiming that TV Tropes is Ruined Forever. To those of you who say that, I'm sure that there will be fixes.
I really need the preview button back. Didn't realize how much I needed it until it left.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.@Yasmin Perry, the old code was tied to a now-expired physical server, so there is no way to put the old layout back even if they wanted to.
The Protomen enhanced my life.To be perfectly honest... i do not like these changes. was it truly necessary to change everything? i would, at the very least, request an option to get the classic look back. or at least something that looks like classic.
I'm sorry that i dislike the new changes. its a little more than i was expecting. i suppose ill grow into it eventually, i just dont like not having a choice.
The bugs for pinned posts being white-on-white and the Preview function not being there anymore have been entered on the BUGS list...no need to keep bringing them up.
I like the addition of a preview post option, but other than that, not a fan. Everything's too small now.
I think I might be okay with it, but the side-bars ought to be on the left side of the screen, not the right. As it is, it's just distracting.
Also, it's too bright.

Oh God! Natural light!"And while I realize that this will most likely to an update of the design, the first thing I did when I went to the home page is look for the tabs that let you view the homepage in Buffy speak, Voda speak, Elmer speak, etc. and was disappointed to see that it and other humorous elements weren’t there."
That kind of reminded me of the Story Generator and the Pitch Generator and how I can't seem to find those anymore, if they still exist. The former was actually really cool for playing writing challenges with friends.
EDIT: Oh, they do still exist, and even have some redesigns to it! Not sure how one would find them though from the home page, I had to Google them.

Anger and insults are the worst possible way to make someone see a different perspective. - Daniel FloydZooming significantly alleviates the dead space issue, though there is still a noticeable gap on the left.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Didn't the site run into issues with donations due to troll groups donating money the cancelling the donations and thus getting TV tropes a bad financial rep or something? Or am I thinking of another site...
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI hate to sound like one of those "they changed it now it sucks" kind of guy, but I really have to say that good gravy is this redesign ugly.
Grey on grey on grey and because of that grey overload those red and blue buttons up top stick out like a sore thumb, the fact that it looks like its trying to be Wikia, and also the fact that I can't find the recent changes link. But that last one is more a minor thing more then everything else.
@Willbyr: you might want to add something to the stickied post, because I wager that 9/10ths of the people bringing old things up open this thread and say what's bothering them without recapping the thread.
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground
Was going to add my voice to the 'implement a classic style option' crowd, but it looks like there's not much point if the admins have no intention of reverting (or even the ability to go back even if they wanted).
It's understandable that the underlying coding couldn't be ported across, but I'm confused as to why that has an effect on the aesthetics. Surely that could have been replicated with the new coding instead of going for the chosen 'kiddy' style? Then again I know nothing about coding, so maybe the new coding only supports such ugly aesthetics . Wouldn't be so bad if this was just a placeholder skin while the coders work on the underlying code, but unfortunately it sounds like that's not the case :/
