Hey tropers, the day has arrived. If you were one of our Kickstarter donators last year you've probably seen us tinkering with a new design for months. Within the next couple hours (depending on how fast your DNS updates you'll start hitting our new servers with the updated version of TV Tropes). A huge thanks to those of you who have been monitoring it and giving us feedback throughout the development process. Some of the new features include:
- Updated design throughout for a cleaner browsing experience
- One click sign in with Facebook
- Random Shuffle button to stay on a namespace (hit Random Media then the Shuffle button to randomize that namespace)
- Browse Watchlist in an image view
- History page now highlights sentences that were deleted/added to make it easier to review changes
- New image uploader with built in crop function
- New About Us page so you can see who we are.
- Contact Us form
- Trope Depictions on the home page (artists can submit their own comic to go with a trope)
- Bug List page Query Bugs (and Query Wishlist for tech wishes) to organize and track bugs on the site.
Ok. Let the feedback begin. (See Anxiety Tropes for my current feelings)
Notes:
- Please do not bother asking for the old design to come back. The lease of the old servers did expire at the day of the changeover, the new ones cannot run the old design.
- You can move the sidebar to the left by going into your profile and selecting Lefthand Sidebar.

Well, this is different.
I kinda like it though.
Ah, found it
@Satoshi Bakura; Weird place to put it.
Thanks!
It looks nice enough, but would it be at all possible to re-implement the Classic layout feature? I never really liked the right-alignment of the new design and having it forced on me doesn't really help any. I found it. Weird place to put it but it makes sense because you couldn't use it in the first place without signing in.

My various fanfics.So...are you guys gonna fix the watchlist problem I mentioned?
~Midna: The "Classic Mode" option is now in your Profile settings, called "Lefthand Sidebar".
Well, so far i dont really like it. Much preferred the old style, but that may be just personal tastes or what im used to. To deliver something objective, the sidebar is... hmm, to wide maybe.
Feels like half the screen stays empty for no reason.
Again, there's still the non-100x100 avatars problem that has to be addressed.
I apologise for repeatedly saying this, but I'm currently bugged by this change.
Also, I can't seem to change my avatars.

Creator of the Avatar Arena and its Discord server. And I decided to do the classic sidebar option and now it feels even worse. It's so much larger and noticeable and distracting.
And not knowing what page number I'm even on is a problem functionally.

Well that was unexpected. I don't have much to add to what the others said, except that when I select night vision the white-letters-on-pink-background used in mod posts (like OP here) make it very painful to read.
Only issue I really have is that the side-UI needs to be squished a bit, but otherwise my only issue are minor nitpicks like the buttons.
And then there was silenceGreat, another site sacrificed to the gods of smartphone-like "pwetty" design. Ugh. Utterly hedious and cluttered. I don't need extra panels of any kind, I just want to read my text in peace without all this fancy garbage. Lefthand sidebar doesn't solve anything, it still takes up so much space it's insane.
Looking up forum titles and Find post by troper aren't working.
"Please crush me with your heels Esdeath-sama!Also, anyone else getting a Wikipedia vibe from the site now?
It's all.... grey and white. Seriously, the blue was much better
Can we get the Forum Navigation bar back at the bottom of the thread pages (e.g. "Home, Forums, New Posts, Watch List")? Having to scroll all the way back to the top of the page to get back to my watchlist is a PITA.
Also, yes please to UI elements back on the left (or an option to do that), as it feels like a massive Interface Screw compared to the rest of the internet.
Be careful what you wish for, 'cause you might just get it all...The big problem is that the articles and forum threads aren't centered anymore. Otherwise it's okay I guess,
I can't change my avatars, too. :/
Creator of the Avatar Arena and its Discord server.Maybe it's just because I have a really high-res screen, but the left-hand sidebar isn't that big, to me at least. Thanks for getting rid of the ugly blue side-bars, by the way!
I just noticed that the PM system is a liiiiittle fucked if you're in Night Vision mode. White text on a light gray background is sort of incredibly unreadable.
pearlina brainrot affects millions of people worldwide. if you or a loved one are suffering from pearlina brainrot, call 1-800-GAY-NERDSThe 'Random Media' is... interesting. Not sure I'll ever use it. If I want something random I really don't care as to whether it's another video game or not. But, I'm not fond of how the area to press those buttons has shrunk. Could you extend the area of the clickspace to include the actual 'Random Trope' instead of just the button? And, the strange piece of tape look really clashes with the typeface of the rest of the site.
Is there a handy link somewhere to get to one's Watch List, Inbox, Edited list, etc? I'm not seeing it.
A bug thread needs to be opened.
I was looking at the edit history of Characters.Kingdom Hearts Disney Villains and there was a back button to Standard Royal Court instead of the page.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Whoa, I wasn't expecting the site to look this different.
~Ripsaw: The "Classic Mode" option that used to allow you to move the sidebar to the left is now called "Lefthand Sidebar" and you can find it in your profile options.
Mods, maybe you could sticky this little tidbit of information? I can foresee it becoming a very frequently-asked-question.
Go to your profile settings.
