Supposedly there is a profile option to shift it to the left.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"There is. Maybe it should be in the toolbar with the other screen options, but it's not hard to find.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff. My thoughts:
- Overall site aesthetic is good, if a little bland. You might want to fiddle with the color scheme. (In particular, the link text could be a darker color.) The "random trope/media" buttons don't really fit the aesthetic at all though, along with the big green and red buttons in YKTTW. Might want to think about a better graphic.
- The site logo on the top bar is edging off the screen on my computer monitor. You might want to shift that (along with the buttons) a wee bit to the right.
- The Reviews function there has the button to go back to the main work page say "Back to Trope". That needs a fix.
- Just for kicks, I decided to use my 3DS to check the new site, and the top bar functions are borked (especially the random trope/random media buttons). I doubt this is high priority, but figured I ought to let you know.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Random question: Why wasn't this the design the site initially shifted too when we did the first redesign?
Now personal opinion time: I like the new design but I honestly would've liked to see something more Material Design-ey if only because I really like it's emphasis on depth and shit
Also is the API gonna be a thing yet? And are we gonna be able to make frontends with it? A Material Design frontend for the wiki sounds like the kind of thing I could work as just a little project or something, hmm
The sidebar is way too wide. It's fine on a wide-screen, but if I use a smaller screen, or tilt my regular screen (which is still 1200px wide then), it becomes claustrophobic. The amount of time I do anything with it is not nearly enough to justify it taking that space. As it is, there's even a lot of empty horizontal space on the sidebar itself, and the only things that take up all that horizontal space is ads. It's something that would make me want to turn on adblocker for the site again.
The sticky header doesn't make much sense. Why do the random buttons and search bar detach from it on a clickable button, leaving empty space? Why can't they just stay where they are if you use the sticky header? It's one thing if they do that when you have a small screen or window, but on a maximised wide-screen? No.
Also, for a case that's actually a lack of space, the site logo at the top left could use a few pixels indention to the right. There's no space at all between the T and the edge of the screen, but only when the window is maximised.

Check out my fanfiction!I too agree the sidebar is way too large.
I'm not thrilled with the new logo font—the retention of some quirks in the original, like the ascending "r" and broken "e" would've been nice. But I do like that reducability has finally been recognized as a potential issue and that the over-complicated version of the lampshade we have now has vanished.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Agreed. On my screen the sidebar now takes up a quarter of the screenwidth (more than a third in narrow load), which looks terrible the moment you run out of actual sidebar: [1]
◊ The current sidebar only takes up 1/7th of the page (in wide mode).
Otherwise I quite like it, esp. the new Darth/Sugar wiki styles.

I noticed a problem with the avatars on the redesigned site: all avatars which aren't exactly 100x100 are stretched.
I don't really want to reupload all of my avatars from scratch, seeing that I may have deleted some of them and looking for them all over my computer (and my external hard drives) is guaranteed to be cumbersome. Having hundreds of avatars to reupload just makes things complicated as well.
This problem only becomes apparent when one decides to switch avatars on their profile.

Creator of the Avatar Arena and its Discord server.I understand that DRAGON is coming in about an hour... But I was hoping you'd address a couple pet peeves of mine. (I know my concerns aren't unique, and they may have been addressed already, but...)
For starters, I HATE, HATE, HATE the lack of disambiguation pages. I hate that Californication, an album by Red Hot Chili Peppers, shares the same namespace as Californication, a Showtime series. Since the TV show page was created years before the album page, the album page doesn't have its own YMMV page, a unique review page, etc. I picked this particular example because I love both the album and the series, but there are hundreds, nay, thousands of examples of this on TV Tropes. I would love each piece of media to be a virtual island, where there is no possibility of sharing subpages with other similarly titled media. Even franchises such as Harry Potter should have separate YMMV, review, and trivia pages for each film and book.
Which brings me to my next concern: franchises. I also hate that the Lord of the Rings films and Lord of the Rings books are not split into the three parts, even though I know that Tolkien technically didn't differentiate between the parts. Each book/film should have a page of its own, and it bugs me that what started out as a matter of convenience for a few tropers developed into a hodgepodge of a thousand tropes all awkwardly grouped on one page. It gets worse for the The Millennium Trilogy, where all books and film adaptations are stuffed together on one site. Gahhhh.
Also, bit of a side note. While adding descriptions on a certain page, after I put in the dividing line to separate it from the tropes, the dividing line tends to slice through the picture on the right side of the page, which looks messy. I often find myself trying to expand the description and add filler so that the line doesn't intersect with the picture, but this renders moot when I browse on a different computer with a higher resolution; text appears smaller, so due to word wrapping, the line slices through the picture again. I want the site to have an intelligent template where it can detect the picture/description, and ensure that the dividing line always appears below the picture.
I know I sound like a demanding jerk right now, but I want media to be differentiated appropriately, rather than conforming to age-old designations we tropers have decided upon for years. Convenience trumps exhaustive organization any day, but I don't want pages to overlap and intersect, and I don't want word wrappers to make site descriptions look small.
I'll gladly have a discussion on this, and if you have addressed one or more of my concerns already, I thank you. Till then, these features of TV Tropes continue to bug me, and impede my ability to feel that the site has been organized appropriately.
Regards,
hossmeister
Your concerns are shared, but are not all pertinent to this project. Let's keep things properly compartmentalized. The idea of having each article be a unique logical entity that doesn't share wiki components with similarly named articles is a 2.0 thing, and we will be starting development on 2.0 soon after the 1.3 overhaul launches and is cleaned of its major issues.
The horizontal line breaking images is undoubtedly on our list of technical issues to be fixed, and will be given its due as the developers work through that pile. Right now, our focus is on delivering the new code base that will support the wiki better than Eddie's old spaghetti.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Countdown has reached zero (and is now counting back up!
), no new look.
Maybe next time, don't use a countdown if you aren't going to deploy the new look at exactly the time it ends? Especially when it's bugged like that. Just say X days to go or state the date instead, and be no more specific than that. Would avoid getting posts like Aldo's just now asking what happened.

I'll direct folks to this thread
so that we don't get any duplication.

I would also like to put my vote in for being able to left align the menu bar please.
