Good first post Also remember that this trope isn't just:
- Bob did something that was kind of sort of intelligent.
That's another common sort of misuse.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickShould this thread also cover related tropes? I've seen similar misuse with Wrong Genre Savvy.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Sounds good to me. I see no reason why not.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI would suggest partititioning different parts of this process between contributors who are interested. I've already cleaned up a bunch of the A-D wicks, where misuse was something like 80-90%. At this moment there are 11,000+ wicks, just to illustrate the size of this project.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Unfortunately can't help there. My classes start in a couple days, and I'm on the wick cleanup for Opera Gloves.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Unfortunately, due to certain RL stuff I can't help out here for at least one week. Sorry, guys!
I'll be here on-and-off because my work ethic is inconsistent.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I might have some spare time this week to help. Are we just starting with the wicks, or the examples on the trope page as well?
Edited to add: I started from the other end. I've done all the Z wicks.
Found the same. 90% or more are misuse or zero context.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Currently taking a look at all the Genre Savvy sub-pages and removing the examples from both the sub-page and the work page that are wrong.
Pages I've looked at:
GenreSavvy.Anime And Manga
GenreSavvy.Comic Books
GenreSavvy.Fan Works
GenreSavvy.Literature except for the Discworld examples. If someone familiar with that series could look at it that would be great.
The GenreSavvy.Folklore page has one example and it's not an example of Genre Savvy, should I send it to the cut list?

Commented out all the examples/quotes on the PlayingWith.Genre Savvy and the Quotes.Genre Savvy pages that I didn't think follow the correct definition of Genre Savvy.
Also, the Laconic.Genre Savvy was broadened to all tropes and not just genre conventions sometime after the TRS was finished. It currently is this:
This line from the main Genre Savvy page is bothering me:

I agree that the old Laconic is much better. I also agree that the "regular savvy" part you mentioned should be axed.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Plus, learning through experience would probably come under Taught by Experience anyway.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Okay, will do so.
Cleaned up the GenreSavvy.Live Action TV page except for the Doctor Who examples.
GenreSavvy.Live Action TV still needs the Doctor Who examples looked at, unless someone thinks it's a franchise that doesn't have enough special circumstances for someone who isn't familiar with it (I'm not) to take a look at it.
I think GenreSavvy.Mythology should be cut as in context, it's just an example of "normal" savvyness, but I'm not sure.
I think the one one example on GenreSavvy.Newspaper Comics is okay, but if I could get a second opinion on that it would be great.
I'm not going to touch the GenreSavvy.Professional Wrestling page with a 10-foot pole as I have no idea how the genre works (except that it's weird). So someone else who actually knows about it can do that page.
GenreSavvy.Radio should also go to the cut-list I think.
GenreSavvy.Roleplay Are we supposed to have a page for this genre?
Cleaned up examples for:
GenreSavvy.Tabletop Games
GenreSavvy.Visual Novels
GenreSavvy.Video Games

Genre Savvy.Webcomics is done except for The Order of the Stick and Girl Genius examples.
Going under the assumption that the world in The Order of the Stick runs on tropes/RPG Mechanics/etc., this would mean that in-universe, any reference to those things would be normal savvyness right?
The Girl Genius examples on the Genre Savvy.Webcomic page aren't examples of Genre Savvy, but some of the examples on the GirlGenius.Tropes F To J page might be. Is it Genre Savvy if the stories that are being mentioned are based on real-life events?
Also, I think we should put up a reminder on that page that weblinks are not examples. There were enough cases where the example was just a link and nothing else for me to think this could be a problem.

Sent GenreSavvy.Mythology and GenreSavvy.Radio to the Cut List.
Removed all the Doctor Who examples except for two from the GenreSavvy.Live Action TV page.
What am I supposed to do with the The Order of the Stick examples on the GenreSavvy.Webcomics page? My gut instinct is to zap the majority of them as their world runs on RPG mechanics, so knowing about said mechanics is the equivalent of being just normally savvy.
I'm still wondering what I should do with the GenreSavvy.Professional Wrestling page as that genre is really weird.

Most of the characters exhibit Medium Awareness but that's not the same as Genre Savvy. I'd say the only characters who really qualify are Elan the Bard, his father Tarquin, and possibly his twin brother Nale. This is because they actually use their knowledge and awareness of fictional tropes to their advantage rather than simply acknowledging their fictional nature from time to time, as is the case with Roy's "It's okay, you can just say +5 Sword" line.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I haven't read that comic in years (it's great, though), but I don't remember Nale being on the same level as Elan in terms of Genre Savviness. I think he's borderline Genre Blind.
Speaking of, Elan is a weird example due to being The Ditz of the group, but I'm pretty sure he qualifies since he's a Bard and brings the narrative stuff up.
Tarquin is definitely an example. He even gives a speech about how he wants Elan to eventually fight and kill him because it's good storytelling or something, plus it will solidify his stance as a legendary villain that would be remembered because of it.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Yep. This strip does a good job of showcasing how alike the pair are in that regard.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I guess that means I'll go on a case-by-case basis then.
GenreSavvy.Webcomics is done.

Cleaned up GenreSavvy.Web Original. A large number of examples were from the Let's Play category and were all about the real-life people learning things about the player bases of the games, as opposed to the story telling conventions of the games. We should probably keep an eye on it.
This thread is dedicated to removing examples of genre savvy that don't fit the genre part of the definition.
To elaborate, the TRS thread on Genre Savvy showed that many misuse it for just plain savvy, which is waaay too broad. The character has to learn from fictional stories for it to count. E.g.,:
This thread is for long-term cleanup of unfitting/shoehorning examples.
