The Treehouse livestream was dominated by Splatoon to the point you’d be forgiven for forgetting that they had anything else.
Regardless, even an average year speaks against the idea that Nintendo regularly “carries” E3. They occasionally have a massive year (2010 and 2018 come to mind), but Sony was arguably the most consistent during the PS4 era, only really getting weird the last year they bothered to go.
I think the only definitive statement that can be made about quality at E3 is that of the studios that put up large press conferences, EA was regularly the worst.

It seems weird to me that all the rumors say that it's only Prime 1 supposedly getting remastered. Like, why not just do Trilogy?
"A few months ago" is half a year by now, and it'll be even more months by E3.
Well, roughly half a year, but I appreciate the clarification regardless.
Razer's PR lead says he just got an email from the ESA saying there will be no digital E3.
Didn't we know it was cancelled months back?
Goddammit, Schezo... || *insert incredibly thirsty copypasta about Dr. Ratio*What was official if I remember correctly was that there would be no physical show. But it was still up in the air if there would be a digital one, although many suspected that there wouldn't be one.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midAnd we now have an official statement from the ESA themselves
, in addition to them talking about their plans for 2023:
"We will devote all our energy and resources to delivering a revitalized physical and digital E3 experience next summer. Whether enjoyed from the show floor or your favorite devices, the 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience.
"We look forward to presenting E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023."
Geoff Keighley announced his Summer Game Fest will resume this year
so I imagine we're still getting a big mid-year video games news drop, even if it's E3 by name.
I meant before directs like Sony it made the event more important because it was only at that show. Now with directs and SO Ps E3 lost relevance.
Just Makima.(paywall) the ESA says E3 will be back next year.
Eh, while direct communication via year-round video presentations have diminished E3's overall importance, Nintendo still cares about the event. After all, it's the E3 presentation that comes packaged with days of livestreaming directly from the show floor, going in-depth with game footage and talking with devs. They don't do that for the February or September shows. I've always found it weird when people say Sony followed Nintendo in leaving, because functionally, nothing as changed about how Nintendo has approached E3. Sony completely left. Nintendo swapped out their stage presentation for a video one (hell, if anything, they've gotten more involved thanks to Treehouse Live).

All my doubt.

I hear the real value of E3 for the companies isn't the communication towards the public, but between members of the industry, as it is a major point of networking.
E3 wasn't always public facing after all. It was originally geared towards the press and retail, hence why some of the early presentations they talk some sales data. I mean, before E3, video games originally were featured at CES.

Huh? E3 2014 was absolutely one of their better E3 presentations. It had several games, including the first teaser for Breath of the Wild. In any case, E3 going digital again this year doesn't really surprise me. Honestly thought they officially announced this to be the case earlier.
