I personally don't like how it plays in the phone. But you can always use a controller, I play with a PS 4 controller paired to my phone with no issues.

Well, I suppose that might work if I was playing in bed, but I also thought of using it to play when I'm not home in general. A PS controller wouldn't be of much help in that situation.
But still, that answers my question, more or less. What about it doesn't work? Fine control so you don't blow up your own fields? Movement? Combat kinda sucking?
Ok, I tried the native controls as I sincerely didn't try them that much. There is the point and click controls a la Age of empire where you point where you want the character where to go, or where to use the tool. As for combat there are two options, the point and attack, where ypu point the monster and the character go to attack, or the aouto attack where the character attacs automatically when a monster get close, only having to worry about your position.
The other is the in game joystick, that isn't as bad as I thought.
In conclusion, I would say the controls aren't that bad, bit it would take a lot of tike to get used, and managing the crops would be more tedious and take more time that with a normal control. The fighting had berter results with the in game joystick, but got hit more often than whit a control.

1.6 content, no release date at the moment.

How well does Stardew Valley work on android? I thought about buying the port but it feels like there'd be trouble with things like combat. Which I would be perfectly happy to skip except that you have to go get ores and stuff.
