"It serves to illustrate the depth of his fall. And his ineptitude at being the bad guy together with his conflicted nature screams redemption arc to me"
I'm not sure he's inept at being a bad guy considering he massacred a Jedi academy and killed his own father as well as tortured countless people.
He's the inverted Luke Skywalker. Luke struggled with the dark side until he got over it and became the hero he needed to be.
Ben Solo struggles with the light side until he gets over it and becomes the villain he needs to be. At least that's how I view it.

Ben should have the same force potential as Anakin pre-Mustafar.
Too bad Ben wasn't trained by the Old Order of Jedi. I was re-watching him wielding his lightsaber and he basically fights like Luke does during the OT.

True but Vader was reading Luke's emotions as they occurred at that moment while Ben was ripping into and searching people's brains and taking out information from there. That seems a lot more advanced.

Kylo does do a few flourishes and spins. I assume he has some idea of lightsaber forms, but since there aren't many lightsaber masters around anymore (if at all), could be he's going with whatever worked for him so far. Although to be an actual threat to Luke and Rey, who will probably be trained by him, he's going to need to retool his style. He's going to need to be trained to actually face Jedi.

By that logic, Luke should only have the potential to be half as powerful as Anakin and as powerful as the Emperor. George Lucas said that Luke has Anakin's potential so it stands to reason that Leia does too.
My theory is that you inherit the Force potential of whoever is stronger between your parents. Alternatively, you have a 50-50 chance of inheriting one of your parent's force potential but it doesn't average out between them.
Just to note Anakin's Potential is double Darth Sidious' but post burning as Darth Vader it's only 80% as much as Darth Sidious'.

No. Genetic traits are inherited in full or not at all.
(Assuming this is a monogenic trait, but that's getting technical.)

@Pushover Media Critic: "The pilot is Luke's son".
Actually, Poe Dameron was born before Endor to A-Wing pilot Shara Bey and Special Forces soldier Kes Dameron.
He already had parents, so there's no way he's Luke's kid.
Wasn't sure that that discussion was still going on but was going to comment on the general thing that "people want/expect every character to be related to someone from the original trilogy".
Ren obviously is, as a central twist in the film.
Rey may be (think that discussion has been rather beaten to death)
Both Poe and Hux have All There in the Manual relations to parents who are bridge figures between the Original Trilogy and this new Trilogy- Poe's being members of the Resistance who joined the Republic and Hux's Empire holdouts who founded the New Order.
I don't know how much serious suggestion there was that Finn was a relative of Lando. I think to the extent it came up, it may have been when early on, people thought he was disguised as a Stormtrooper. But more frequently, it was probably a criticism of the lack of diversity in the series. From what we know now, I think narratively it makes the most sense for Finn to be "nobody"- just one of many people kidnapped at birth.

It serves to illustrate the depth of his fall. And his ineptitude at being the bad guy together with his conflicted nature screams redemption arc to me.
All I know is, my gut says maybe.
