I also have a similar problem with the challenges. If there's a problem with the way I did things, can the game just TELL me what I'm doing wrong?
For example, I happened upon the White Arabian early on and got her to full stats that I can. Filled up on Horse Tonics and etc and set out from Rhodes to Valentine at full Gallop and maintaining that Gallop with tonics the entire time. Just smashing that button. I even set a timer on my phone and made it in time... only for the game to not count it?
I know for a fact that the game wasn't counting all my Varmint Rifle animal kills.
Wow. Mine seems to be working fine.
Trying to knock out a few more challenges for the heck of it.
It's half hilarious, half irritating that despite doing a fair amount of fishing here and there, it still took me until well into the game (I just finished Guarma) to catch three bluegill simply because game barely ever spawns them.
The very next Survivalist Challenge just adds insult to injury. "Bring 4 Animals To Camp or the Trapper." Makes me wish these were retroactive, sometimes.
Bluegill is literally the most common fish. You just don't use bait and they spawn everywhere...
To each his own. Even when using the Cheese Bait that's intended to make them spawn more, it was always Bass and Pickerel instead in my playthrough.
Until I finally decided to just hunker down and not stop fishing until I got enough for the challenge (and even then it took a while and I had to change spots a few times), the only ones I had ever encountered were in the mission (I think with Kieran, though it might have been the one with Javier) where you're scripted to catch them.

Oh maybe it was bass i was thinking of. What's the fish that you always catch if there's no other fish around?
It's either Bass, Pickerel, Perch or Bluegill. As far as I can tell, the game fills bodies of water with combinations of them at random when the terrain spawns. I've just had poor luck of the draw, I guess.
Anywho, Arthur having Tuberculosis makes a lot of the game more uncomfortable, given how much close contact he has with so many people. His coughing fit, requiring him to be nursed by the widow above Annesburg, especially made me wary. After all that help, it'd stuck if Charlotte Balfour caught the disease too.

Might want to correct that second spoiler chunk.
Just shot up a Klan initiation meeting. I love this game.
Those encounters remind me the opening to Bad Boys II a lot.
Just learned that Honor of all things is capped until a certain point in the game, and its not just a super grind for the last two levels.
I mean, it sort of makes sense. You don't get to go max-honor or max-scumbag until after Arthur develops TB, whereupon he stops being so morally grey and comes to a resolution, one way or the other.
I only just realized that one of the outfits you can buy from the shops, the one that ended up being my favorite for the latter half of the game, is almost exactly Dutch's outfit, just with inverted colors.
Can't remember which one right now (can't exactly check, I modified it so it comes up as "Custom Outfit"), but that's interesting.
I just would have preferred an alert that my Honor was capped for the time being.
Think I'm going on a Legendary Animal murder spree today, get me some trinkets. Already took on the Grizzly (close run, managed to bash Circle hard enough to give it a point blank double barrel to the head), so how hard can some of the others be?

Most of them are pretty easy. Track 'em, shoot em a little more than their normal variants. And since you don't have to worry about damaging the pelt, you can just go nuts. They're lots easier than the Legendary Fish, at any rate.
Granted, I'm still a little too terrified to take on the Legendary Cougar, after only meeting the game's scripted encounter with a normal unique cougar.
Well, I just got the game and so far, it's really fun. Right now I'm at the train robbery mission near the beginning of the game.
About two missions away from completing Chapter 6...and an entire 4th of the map is still blocked off because I'm wanted Dead or Alive due to the shit that went down before the game started...they weren't lying when they said that the Epilogue was 8 hours long were they?
Also RIP Hamish.

Man is attacked by mountain lion, and strangles it in self defense.
Finally some retribution for RDR players.
The article also mentions that there have only been 20 mountain lion related deaths in a 100 years, so that tells you just how unrealistic the game can be in that regard.
