With Ragnelle: Dress Shop

"Right, er—"

"Master Ragnelle," Riko advised.

The clerk strode away as quickly as his fashionably ridiculous shoes could take him.

"Lady Wylde is right. Please be still for the measurements," Riko said. She leaned closer. "Try to bear with it for now."

Meanwhile, the woman with the measuring tape brusquely sized Ragnelle up, bustling around her in a circle and tightly measuring practically everything—neck, bust, waist, hips, height, arm length...

"Right. Smallest size we have, then. Extra give around the bust," the woman said. Some scruffier looking young man walked over to a rack of dresses and wheeled it back to Ragnelle. "These will do just fine," the woman said. "If you see anything you fancy, we can fit them to your individual needs and modify them to keep up with the current fashion."

In the far corner of the room apparently collecting their finished dresses for tomorrow's wedding were two noblewomen. One leaned to the other, though made little effort to keep the volume of her conversation down.

"Goodness. She's the second princess of Vale? The bastard princess?"

"Oh, I think she is. And the maid of honor too, most likely."

"On such short notice?"

"You know how the lady Arturia is."

"True. Though, I highly doubt any dress could make that second princess look presentable."

"She could do with a little fashion update."

The two noblewomen giggled quietly. Riko cringed and clutched her right arm uncomfortably, hoping that Ragnelle hadn't heard that. Please do not set the building on fire, she mentally pleaded.

"Let us, uh, choose a dress now," Riko said, trying to steer Ragnelle's attention away from the nobles. "Are there any dresses here you like?"

Manly Men (Not Wearing Tights)

A small crowd was forming around them, intent on the spectacle. By way of Benkei rapping his mug against Ulric's signaled that the contest was on!

The big warrior put the mug to his lips and quaffed down the ale in the span of a breath, even as he reached for the next one.

Yuzuki had kind of just gone back to silently following along, her little head lost in thoughts, thoughts about things like how to improve dynamo, how pretty Riko was, and things of the sort. When she finally regained awareness of the situation and realized where she was she had to do her best to suppress a squee.

She quickly got to to silently observing the various dresses with excitment.

Drinking contest

Gerhart grew visibly uncomfortable as the crowd began to form, shifting back and forth in his seat as the crowd grew bigger.

Ulric, on the other hand was content to sit and watch as his old friend downed his first mug. Smiling smugly, Ulric quickly grabbed a second mug as Benkei was reaching for his second and lifted both mugs to his mouth and tilted them back. Without letting a drop fall from each tankard, Ulric downed them both with lightning speed before flipping both mugs over and slamming them down upon the table.

Reaching out a hand, Ulric bellowed "NEXT!" and waited for Gerhart to pass him his next mug.

"The white one. It's not too frilly, not too fancy, and it doesn't have fucking pink in it." muttered Elle, still miffed at...basically everything, really, not to mention slightly embarassed at how her figure was described.

She, of course, heard the unstoppbale prattling of the idiotic nobles, but she was far too used to shots at her looks to care.

Pretty, ugly, it was all the same to Ragnelle. Who cares if those airheaded dolls thought she wasn't like them. That was a fucking compliment.

She took said white dress from its place and felt it.

"I can move in this. Good."

With Ragnelle: Dress Shop

"How about this one with the fri—Oh." Riko concealed a smile behind her hand. "That seems nice. Yes, I think it is wise to choose a dress you will be able to move in easily."

Nearby, the first awful noblewoman slapped a man's wrist away as he seemed to be helping her with the fittings of her dress. The man apologized and returned to his work. Soon, apparently not content with merely criticizing Ragnelle, the two noblewomen also took note of Ragnelle's company—Yuzuki.

"They allow faunus near the upper-class now?"

"This country is going to the dogs, my dear."

"Literally."

Raucous laughter. Riko began sweating from her brow. Meanwhile, the woman who measured Ragnelle earlier had returned.

"Have you reached a decision?" the measurement woman said. She tugged at the bustline of the dress. "Hm. That'll fit you now, if you'd like to try it on."

Riko smiled nervously. "Er—that might be nice—?" she said.

"We'll have to add frills, I think," the measurement woman said. "My recommendation. It's the fashion. They'll go out of style soon, but for now they're a safe choice. You might also want a hat or a bonnet to go with it."

You think we're good for the mini scene, like Insano wanted?

Gettin' Tipsy!

Not to be outdone, Benkei took four in his great hands and started chugging them down one by one. Two of which, he'd upended at the same time in mockery of Ulric. Four mugs in succession hit the table.

His mouth full of food, his head full of alcohol and the cheers of the crowd, the night wore on in joy as two old friends renewed their vow of friendship... By partying like there would be a famine the very next day.

"The dress is fine. Now, please excuse me, I have business with that lady." Ragnelle said quietly, although Riko would notice her clenched fists.

Elle walked towards the noble and smiled.

"Hi. I don't like you, you're fat, and your face looks dumb." she said cheerfully.

"I'm going to set your ass on fire now, thank you!"

.....And she did, setting the bottom of her dress on fire for a literal second before dousing her in ice cold water.

She bowed. "Excuse me, I'm going to leave now because your presence offends me!"

She walked back to Riko. "So, that dress...."

With Ragnelle: Dress Shop

Riko chased after Ragnelle, arm outstretched in a vain attempt to stop her. "Please do not do anything rash!" she cried. "Those two are not even worth your time—"

The noblewoman, a blonde thirty-something with a flat, upturned nose—and now a flaming ass to boot—started screaming. Her friend panicked, but did nothing. The ice cold water splashed over the blonde, spraying water that (mostly harmlessly) stained her friend's dress as well.

Sopping wet and tracking water all over the floor, the blonde noblewoman's face contorted into twisted fury. For a moment, she couldn't even come up with words. Eventually: "Y-you—you witch!" she said. She tossed her waterlogged hat at the ground. "Meredith, we're leaving."

The meek, crying mess the apparent brunette named Meredith happened to be nodded. "Y-y-yes, let's hurry before she sets me on fire, too..." she said.

The two noblewomen hurried out the door in a scant few seconds. A few other nobles also hastily left the store in their wake. Several of the staff had ducked behind the front desk, others behind shelves or simply dropping to the floor and laying face down. The clerk peeked his head over the desk.

"Is it safe to come out?" he said.

Riko simply buried her face in her hands.

Shopping Gone South

Sanfar took a deep breath and sighed as she walked over to the clerk. "Sir, can you get some dresses fitted for the two girls in my company? I will pay you double the price as compensation for what has happened here today." She spoke, her helmet still obscuring her face. "As for you..." she said to Ragnelle as she turned to her, "We need to talk. Outside."

Ragnelle smirked in grim satisfaction at the retreating women. Yeah, that made her feel a lot better.

She turned to face the other people in the shop and bowed.

"Apologies for the commotion, good people, I mean you all no harm. Just had to teach those mosquitoes a lesson."

And then when Sanfar tried to lecture her, Elle crossed her arms, glared defiantly and refused to budge.

"I did nothing wrong. They deserved that."

Sanfar on the other hand, refused to be debated with as she physically picked Elle off the ground and hauled her out of the store into an alley. "...I am not going to be upset at you for getting retribution on them. I am merely upset that you did so in a stupid and reckless manner." She said as she removed her helmet, her dark skinned features marred by a harsh frown. "If you had asked, I would have removed them myself, and you would not tarnish your name further, but you cannot let your muscle do even that job?"

Sanfar took a deep breath and sighed. "Ragnelle, I know you do not care, but those noble women are likely to stir something up in response to this. Because you defended Riko and Yuzuki that way, another faunus is likely to suffer their ire. Or worse, their presence."

Ragnelle yelped and sruggled all the way when Sanfar dragged her away like a child. Damn it, the nerve-! Unfortunately, the other woman was far stronger than her physically and so her struggle was in vain.

She grunted in displeasure as she was unceremoniously dumped into the alley. Her frown grew as she listened to Sanfar speak.

"My reputation?" Ragnelle spat out. "What do I care for my reputation?! It has been mud since the day I was born! What's more important to me is that they know that I won't stand for that kind of behavior!"

She crossed her arms and huffed. "You can't expect me to stand there and do nothing!"

A sigh.

"...I see your point about the faunus, though. I'll try to be less reckless next time." she conceded.

"....But I make no promises."

If you wish for them to be disciplined, then get me to do it, and I shall do it in a way that will ensure that no backlash befalls you or your family." She said with a smile and a nod.

"Regardless, let us help Yuzuki and Riko get their clothes, I want to see what cute dresses they get."

Dress Shop

None of the staff were in any position to turn down royalty even after the stunt she pulled. The clerk seemed slightly offended at the idea of serving faunus, but not at the idea of twice the profit. Seeing that Riko wasn't a faunus (or at least, he didn't know she was), he walked up to her first, but Riko promptly turned away and left. He shuddered, trying to figure out how to deal with the other customer.

Riko followed Sanfar out into the alley.

"Wait, Lady Wylde," Riko said. "Elle..."

Riko clutched her right arm tighter.

"I was not holding on to my right arm for my own benefit. They insulted you, and I..." Riko drew in a deep breath. She unfurled her clenched right fist and held out her hand, revealing marks where her nails dug deeply into her palm. "...And you did nothing then. But even though I have no reputation to protect, and it is not even public knowledge what I am, you defended me. You get angry and passionate in the stead of people like me and lady Yukimura."

Riko bowed.

"I want to do the same for you. Please. If it is for you, I would gladly dirty my hands."

She stood and looked away.

"Ah...my makeup. I need to fix it," she said. "And then we can...all decide on what dresses to wear together."

Arrluk and Sienna

"Elle is princess of Vale! Child out of wedlock, famous person. First time met just today. Short, sour, but sweet! Just like desert-spikes." She laughed, holding Sienna close with one arm. "Friend already? Fevrier hopes! Sienna will meet Elle soon."

She was about to continue when Arrluk presented a bone charm. Oh, how delightful! She had something to give, too.

"Fevrier will keep. Thank you, Skeleton Man! Fevrier has a present of her own."

She pulled out a crude necklace, one with a multitude of her own teeth strung through it. It wasn't graceful, but she passed it to Arrluk with a big smile.

"Tribe charm. Less sharp than the one Fevrier gave Sienna, but friend-gift. May your teeth be pointy and tough like Fevrier's!"

She thumped Sienna's shoulder, laughing loudly as she did.

"Reminds me! Inns in city. Money for room to sleep in. No food, but bed. Want to see? Can take tent and move under roof!"

"That would be how I'm staying here, in an inn called The Banner and Blade. They probably have a few rooms to spare." Arrluk commented as he took the necklace. He held the teeth up to his eyes to more closely examine his gift, grinning wider as the realization of whose teeth it was dawned on him. "Wow, Fevrier, thank you." He tied it around his neck and nodded. "I really appreciate that. I'm glad the old ways are not totally lost."

Elle felt a lump appear in her throat as Riko spoke. She wasn't just surprised at Riko's feelings. Ragnelle was awed.

She turned away from her friend for a second, embarassed. And then, after a moment's hesitation, she did something she had never done to anyone else other than her mother and sister.

She embraced Riko.

It was rough, awkward and Elle let go quickly, but it was a real hug all the same.

"Idiot." Ragnelle said, her voice soft. "I don't need you to get your hands dirty for me. That's not necessary. I did what I did because it was the right thing to do."

"And all I want from you...is to continue being my friend. You've been amazing, Ri. Far better than most anyone I met. So....j-just stay with me, okay? That's all I want."

She finished speaking and turned away again, blushing.

A few more seconds of awkward silence and Elle looked at Sanfar, sheepishly scratching her head.

"Uhhh...sorry for making you watch me be sappy as fuck."

She still couldn't make eye contact with Riko.

With Ragnelle

Riko let out a barely audible gasp, eyes widening, slightly afraid to wrap her arms around Ragnelle in return, but eventually settling for a light touch.

"I will," she said. "I promise."

Still reeling from the initial surprise of the hug and barely concealing a blush of her own, Riko couldn't quite look Elle in the eye either. Instead, she shuffled in front of Sanfar and bowed politely.

"I am so grateful that Ragnelle has you to rely on," she said. "Thank you, lady Wylde."

Finally, she gestured back to the entrance of the alley. Seeing the marks on her hand again, she frowned. I did nothing. I really am a coward, she thought. All I have is words. She shook the thought out of her mind, smiling and pretending her doubts weren't there.

"Shall we go back inside and sort out your dress? Perhaps we could...help the lady Yukimura, as well?"

Sightseeing

Sienna blinked for a few seconds at the use of the word "Witch", not understanding what it meant. She decided to shrug and continue the conversation. "Oh, then she is also ruler? Will be great to meet her. Though you may think of her as sweet Fevrier, I will have to meet her to make friends. Thinking opinions of one you have not seen can bring bad luck" She patted Fev on the back as she held her close. Hoping she wouldn't be offended. It wasn't considered a good thing to judge a person by the words of other people in her culture. One must see a person's face first.

The dromaeosaur turned to the Narwhal faunus, when he finished talking the largest toe on her left foot which held the biggest sickle-shaped claw, rose a bit higher than its usual slight elevation off the ground and kept in the higher and held in that position for a brief moment of time before she finally answered.

"My tent is a bit far, people in the entrance looked at me suspiciously when I went near them with it, was feeling unwelcome. Had to find what kingdom people call "Unclaimed land""

She looked at the charm he offered her, smiled, bowed and accepted it. "Thank you mister. I am very grateful for your gift. Hopefully will protect me from witch. Sadly, I do not have any I can give in return, have mostly raw material with me"

Sienna saw her friend give a gift to Arrluk and grinned as she took her thump without flinching. "You are very kind Fevrier, no matter if it is a stranger or a friend huh? I like that about you. That is not a very common trait to find"

The huntress nodded her head in reaction to the shark lady's suggestion. "Heard of beds, would be nice to try and one night without food no problem. Did that plenty of times. If my wares will be safe and they will keep my tent. Can try. How costly will it be?"

Finally she looked to her side, turned there pointing towards the great distance. "Tent this way. Though unless you lead us from there to your inn, there is no need for you to come with us, especially if you have business now, would not like to keep you away from doing your needs just so you would come with me mister Arrluk"

Arrluk shrugged and leaned on his cane. "I have nothing to attend to, ma'am. Certainly a benefit of self-employment is that I only work when I need money, and I have plenty saved up from several jobs, including the one I met the groom at." He held up the antlers. "I can afford to cover food if need be; you sold me these wonderful antlers, it's the least I could do. And if not, the beds are fine enough that, just like at home, we can share them if cash is tight. Well, I assume that's how you two lived at home, is that right? I know it gets pretty cold at night in the desert just like it does on the ice."

On to the Wedding!

Evening came upon Vale, and morning followed in an orderly fashion. To the east of the city at Beacon Fields, people from all walks of life gathered thanks to the open invitation proclaimed by Arturia. There was a strange feeling in the air, both of joy and apprehension. On one hand, there was the joy of the union of a new royal couple. On the other, a royal was marrying some foreign commoner, an adventurer with no title to his name. The crowd was large, but it was also filled with Faunus, who were being herded to the back of the crowd in attendance. A quiet tension cut through the place; could this wedding occur without violence?

The wedding

Blessed with a thick, low center of balance and a Semblance that let him just slide away from anyone trying to cause trouble, Arrluk had blithely slid up to the front of the crowd. He stared at the crowd unblinking, but not with undivided attention; his ears were at the ready to alert him to anyone else trying to herd him away, and his feet shifted slightly every few seconds with a Semblance that was not fully deactivated. He held Sienna's antlers in one hand and a carving knife in the other, ready to start working as soon as either inspiration or a guard's hand struck him. Cane sat on his gauntlet in its compressed foot-long form, ready to deploy as well.

Angela stood amongst the crowd, near the edge of the nobles in the audience. At first she had been worried that the elegant mask on her face would raise suspicion but after noticing several fops with poorly done hair-dye or masks of their own the ex-assassin had stopped worrying about being stopped by the guards

Of course now I have to worry about the others in disguise being killers, since most of my equipment is hidden at the reception area...still, no one I know from Grimoir, yet.

The dark girl had only a few braces of throwing knives, worn over a low top and pants, all of which was concealed by a bulky purple dress adorned with dark feathers, her mask matching with her hair done up in an elegant bun.

Benkei was at his usual place a respectful distance behind his master, clad in the ceremonial plate favored by Valoran guardsman. Tailored for his huge stature and with huge votive beads around his gorget, of course. To say nothing of the mirror shine of the armor and spear.

If he seemed the worse for wear after the shenanigans of meeting his old friend, the huge Vacu warrior was too disciplined and too well-trained to show it.
