I stopped being interested in the show when they made her seriously mentally ill versus someone who had left an unsatisfying horrible life in New York for a less stressful one in California. In effect, the Cerberus Retcon ruined the show for me.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.... that was apparent from literally the first episode.

Honestly, I was really interested in a story where a woman gets herself off from being overmedicated and takes herself on a journey of self discovery from a career she hates. Her life was obviously a miserable self-destructive hellhole in New York.
So it was a good thing, however misguided after her childhood crush, to get away from it.
It was absolutely the right decision to move and quit her job.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I mean, the very first episode had her going No Meds For Me and ended with her going "I'm not crazy. I'm not crazy. I'm not crazy. I'm not crazy. I'm crazy. I am a crazy person." To which Paula said "no, you're just in love" except everything up to that point didn't have her "in love," it had her "obsessed and more than a bit crazy."
Like, it was abundantly clear from day one that going to West Covina was crazy and she had a ton of issues.

I mean, the self-discovery and the pursuit of happiness element is still there, but personally, I think the story of a woman with a mental illness finding peace and self-love is a very important (and rare) story to tell. Not to mention, it's especially well-done. However, I could see it not working for some people.
I can see why they did it.
It was always going to be about how her story was off-kilter and a deconstruction of, basically, Felicity.
But I guess I think it went too dark for me to enjoy and I thought it was a good message that people who are Type A overachievers being desperately unhappy shouldn't be afraid to change their lifestyle to less stressful ones.
If's helped one person with its portrayal, though, my opinion is squat.

They were always clearly going in this direction though. It’s not a Cerberus Retcon in the slightest
Also the show has alway had a dark undertone to it it’s still a very optimistic comedy

It's back for the fourth and final season!
Here is the show's version of Cell Block Tango, "What's Your Story?"
And here is the amazing "No One Else is Singing My Song":
New theme song! "Meet Rebecca":
"Time to Seize the Day," a song which applies way to much to my life:
"The Cringe," featuring the triumphant return of Patton Oswalt:
By the way, Rachel Bloom also did three videos for Refinery29 about sex education:
"Mrs. Drizzle and her Educated Mode of Magical Transport"
How to explain rape culture to the Devil:
And the new gameshow, "Is This Normal?":
You might recognize several other actors from CEG.
"Don't Be a Lawyer":
And the most pun-tastic song of the episode, "Our Twisted Fate":
I sent "Don't Be a Lawyer" to one of my lawyer friends. She really appreciated it.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself.Thank you, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, for giving us a spot-on parody of romantic comedies while also breaking our hearts. Also, this:
So...I had the weirdest experience watching this latest episode. I got fifteen minutes into it but fell asleep and had a dream that I was in a Crazy Ex-Girlfriend episode. I woke up before the actual episode was over and caught the end, but man what a surreal, ironic experience.
Anyway, I’m really glad it seems like Nathaniel has moved on from Rebecca. Nathaniel’s a handsome, cool character and all (especially considering he’s “nice now”) but he and Rebecca are terrible for each other. I honestly have no idea why the pairing is so popular. The show keeps pointing out his toxic masculinity (Maya: Not aprop’, dude.) and his sense of entitlement.
Also, New-Greg really is a completely different person from the previous one. Not because of the actor change (well, partly) but because he just has a fundamentally different personality. He’s a lot less cynical and sarcastic, which weren’t traits that I associated with him being an alcoholic. So...is it wrong that I kind of like new Greg better? I always thought the old one was a jerk.
Lastly, can we get a Hector/Heather spinoff show? Heather is the funniest character in C Ex G and Hector is my favorite male character in the show (other than Whi Jo) and he never got enough screentime. They deserve it.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will air a concert right after it's final episode. It will be called "Yes, It’s Really Us Singing: The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Concert Special!" and will feature some of the 150 songs written for the song sung by a majority of the cast.
And the last season continues to kill it. Tonight's episode, "I Need to Find My Frenemy," was probably the funniest of the season (either this one or the Cats parody) and I loved all of the callbacks, especially the two reprises:
And goddamn, the Slow Motion song was funny:

At PaleyFest, each actor was asked what they would do if they encounter their character on the show. This was Rebecca's answer. Watch the entire clip, it's hilarious.
Can't say I was expecting that answer!
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself. The second to last episode was just...lovely.
"Love's Not a Game"
"Love's Not a Game (Reprise)"
"There's No Bathroom" feat. Weird Al!
Oh god, the series finale was great. It both did and didn't go as expected.
"11 O'Clock" is a great musical number, because it's just a medley of all the previous songs, but it's also a history of the show and her trying to change and she still doesn't know herself. And then when it turns it "You Ruined Everything," man, that was just a punch of the gut.
And then the reprise brought Paula into it and, of course, the true love story wasn't any of the guys, it was Rebecca and Paula, the first duet and reprise that happened in the show and the person whom Rebecca could always rely and who tells her the truth.
Also, the concert looked fucking awesome. When Rachel's dad didn't get the line right three times, I broke down laughing.
"Eleven O'Clock"
And the last song, "West Covina (Final Reprise)":
I can't believe this show is over. I am a few episodes behind but I'll end up watching them all in one go for maximum emotional impact, probably.
Trust you? The only person I can trust is myself. Also the note about the love story of Rebecca and Paula, they also have a break up song (which I tend to skip on replays unless I am in the mood to cry because it's humourous like a lot of them but does make me cry)
FYI, season 3 is on Netflix. Downloaded a few episodes and watching them on my lunch.
Such a fantastic show.
