It's kind of sad. I want to check this out now, and from what I'm seeing here, you all are giving it pretty high marks, but I'm still seeing people hating on this show without watching it just because it has Skylanders!Spyro in it and no other given reason.
I even saw whole long rant on a certain video game website known for its toxic comments sections that basically boiled down to "This is nothing like classic Spyro so I hate it" and their points basically amounted to "Spyro does X here which he would never do in the classic series."
Not knocking the classic Spyro games or anything, but things like that are really making me want to give this show a chance once I can finally check it out.
"Hey, least I didn't lose all my artistic talent when I crash landed in the arena here."Go ahead. I'm starting to think this is a "Ratchet & Clank (2016)" situation where Skylanders Academy is in a standalone continuity in a shared multiverse with the teased-at upcoming Crash Bandicoot TV show, which just so happens to be extremely faithful to the original games, but with elements from the later games added in early. They changed Spyro's backstory from the games, and they introduced King Pen and the Imaginators way too early (though that's probably because Activision cares more about advertising the latest game than about maintaining basic continuity. Also, Crash can talk in the show, which he can't do in Skylanders Imaginators.
Also, I don't see how Spyro acts that different in this show compared to his classic self. Classic!Spyro was also a pretty arrogant Mascot with Attitude. I mean, even in the first game he's always going on about how easily he'll beat Gnasty Gnorc...

I mean, he'll prooooooobably still be mute in the PS 4 remakes, though. This is likely just a TV-continuity-only thing.
I've never played any of these games, so I mainly remember Crash speaking through a human face in his mouth
in the many ads they ran during my childhood.
I made a thing:
(Josh Keaton voices Spyro in the Skylanders games.)

I've got Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash, Spyro, and Paper Mario fanfics.Well.
Guess who just finished watching the whole season already.
And yeah, apparently the whole "Crash Bandicoot showing up" thing was supposed to be a surprise. Which I found out too early because I decided to look up what people have been saying on the Crash thread in the Video Games section.
But aside from the whole spoilery bit, I seriously couldn't stop seeing what would happen next, and now I have to wait until next fall. So much joy...
Seriously though, this was actually very well-made. And the last episode having Kaossandra effectively kicking Kaos out of his lair was mildly gut punch inducing.
One thing though. Didn't Word of God say the show was going to do something with Cynder? Because in all honesty, she was the one I wanted to see the most but she wasn't anywhere.
Here's to hoping we'll get a Lower-Deck Episode or even a "The Greatest Story Never Told" episode starring some of the Skylanders who weren't the main leads next season.

Cynder is confirmed for season 2. Which probably means those glowing red eyes in the season finale belonged to Malefor.
Matthew Mercer voiced Spyro in Imaginators, just pointing that out. :)
Also, I got started on the Characters page! :D

Yes, but sadly Josh Keaton only voices Spyro during gameplay, so there weren't really many funny clips to use from his performance.
Oh, okay. I'm pretty sure Keaton still voices Spry, though (Spyro's mini-figure).
Finally watched the episode with Crash in it. I was squeeing the entire time.
Fingers crossed for Crash's own show....
Ehhh, I'm okay with the theme song. I'm just glad it's something chill and relaxing as opposed to something over-the-top obnoxious (which I worried about back when I was afraid this show would be Teen Titans Go: Skylanders Edition).
I've got Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash, Spyro, and Paper Mario fanfics.

Hmm... so, it's quality is high, like that of other Netflix original cartoons, eh? I'll watch it when I get the chance to.
