Same here. They took 30 pages out of 59 to perform the deed. What purpose had? To showcase the fear of the character to kill? To further drive home the orange and blue morality of Nasse (whom I'm start to feel a bit annoyed)? To further show that the 'villain' is evil? (Because manipulating the media, and all his previous actions haven't proven it enough.) Let's be honest, fifteen pages should've been enough for what was basically a combination of wanking the bad boy (I got serious Kira vibes there) and showing the gap of power. I didn't like the last moments of death note, seems this series is going down the same path even faster. Well, I have Bakuman, though while with its flaws, was pretty good.

In truth I'm a mass of hatred and caffeine masquerading as a human being.NO.... THEY FUCKING DID!!!
- Hour long tirade of profanity, cursing and insults ensues*
I had my doubts but I can officially say I'm dropping this series. The focus has been utterly sucked by this character whom is only a cliche and a self-fulfillment for powerfantasies (really, he's a dumbed down version of light yagami but with even more wanking!) and that has had his potential downed too many notches.

In truth I'm a mass of hatred and caffeine masquerading as a human being.Ah, Mister Freeze… I knew it reminded me of something. >.>
Eeh, well, I still prefered this chapter to the previous one. At least it wasn't too focused on Metropoliman this time, and the female murderer might be interesting. As interesting as a character in this series can be, anyway…
I still can't believe how fast I went from "totally hype" to "oh, right, this thing exists" with this series. =[

Geh. I only just picked it up, but...yeah, I'm disappointed. The series is too ham-fisted to take it seriously. It seemed interesting in the first few chapters, but the Metropoliman thing and stadium fiasco were cheesy, and Kanade in general is too over-the-top.
Ah well, at least Lepel and Nasse are cute. I agree, I like the frills on the angels' designs, it gives a confusing illusion of clothing.
I thought at first that Nasse had a more alien way of thinking, sort of like Ryuk. But as the chapters pass she seems to become fairly normal, which was a bit disappointing. Though she does still manifest weirdness here and there. (Also, she is the ditziest angel ever. They're lucky Lepel is there.)
Chapter 8. Yikes, bon appétit. Mimimi's (yeah…) character has the subtelty of a shotgun loaded with anvils, but at least it's deliberate this time. I hope.
I'm kinda starting to see what the author is trying to do with the hero… The one crippling trait that he seems to exhibit is that he can't take a clear cut decision. Mukaidō acts as someone who can "shake him up". And Saki acts as… a wall painting…? Paree is really pretty.

Well, I just have to laugh at people today. There's people whom says this is already a master piece because they are masterfully portraying the characters as humans!
Seriously, I must have lost my memo regarding characterization..
In truth I'm a mass of hatred and caffeine masquerading as a human being. The setup for this by itself is similar to Death Note but I honestly think that between the two of them, this one is a lot better.
Light was IMHO a boring character with not that much going for him. Mirai's backstory is melodramatic and cliché but at least it gives you some sort of reason to care about him and the way he tries to commit suicide after having such a shitty life is really easy for me to identify with (I haven't had a terrible life overall but have struggled with depression for years).
Nasse's amoral nature also feels more subversive and interesting than Ryuuk's amorality, because that's more or less what you'd expect from something that looks like a v-kei Tim Burton monster, but with Nasse looking like that and going on about trite things like love and happiness you wouldn't expect that she'd be ok with and suggest killing people and stealing if it makes Mirai happy.
It also helps that, being a monthly magazine, Tabata has a lot more time to refine and polish the art than Death Note, so this has pretty much the best art I've ever seen him by him and it's honestly pretty good.
Apparently some people are disappointed with more recent developments and that's unfortunate because I honestly feel like I could enjoy this manga in a way that I was unable to enjoy both Bakuman and Death Note. Which isn't to say the writing displayed so far has been super excellent or anything, but whatever.

What do people think of the translation? Someone elsewhere said it was really bad.
Also I've never followed an ongoing series. How do I know when a chapter of PE will be in WSJ? With this new Boruto series, I really want to follow WSJ for the first time ever but I have in the past only ever gotten manga in volume sets.
I think this is monthly and doesn't go with WSJ.

And regarding the plot, I'm actually the opposite. I feel this is a recycled version of Death Note and that that one was better.
Sure, there's a dissonance in appearance between Nasse's behavior and set values, and that's all that there's to her character. Ryuuk was pretty much the same but I feel he was more interesting because he was mostly there to wait for the final moment and bust his ass in lulz, he was a troll basically. Nasse may surprise you on chapter one but let's be honest, by chapter 5 the shtick wears off. IMO Mirai is a rather good character but his indecision to deffend himself ruins his character. I'm not saying he goes on a murder spree only that he at least grasps properly the concept of holy fucken shit I'm going to die and so will people I care about! I must do something! It doesn't mean you have to be proud of it, it doesn't mean you have to be at ease with it. It's self-presservation you have to do it. I see it more believable to see him kill someone and then have a borderline mentalbreakdown due to remorse rather than be in this kind of self-denial. But the problem is, as you said it: it's cliché. This story is chock full of cliches (metropoliman being the biggest we have been thrown at) and they ain't twisted in a refreshing way. The plot is basically M Irai Nikki's with a few mandatory changes to avoid a lawsuit.
In truth I'm a mass of hatred and caffeine masquerading as a human being. What people usually do is they bookmark the scanlation group doing the translations for the manga and check it regularly, or they just make an account on the aggregate site that hosts it and check that every once in a while.
Also: this actually IS the premise for Mirai Nikki almost beat for beat isn't it? I thought it felt really familiar because I haven't read or seen much of it, but I've read about it a bunch before.

So I only had $5 in my account which means I got the first five chapters off Viz's website. According to the comments I read though, Chapter 5 seems to be a pretty big turning point. Well, for better or worse, since a couple people swore off the series because of said chapter. BUT WHATEVER, I will read and see what I think.
But first, I must begin...at the beginning.
Chapter 1-
Huh, the beginning kind of made me think of Yu Yu Hakusho. Remember the old Toonami commercial? "Meet the star of our series. Only...HE'S DEAD!" But I guess not. Hooray for guardian angels. Our protagonist doesn't seem very grateful, though.
Jesus, it's Japanese Harry Potter. Fucking Aunt Sakur and Uncle...uh...Vernon?
"Use your wings to steal things. Oh and remember, the arrows can mind control people and make them into love-slaves." This guardian angel is perhaps a lot cute and friendlier than Ryuk but I'm not so sure about how she stacks up to him in terms of morality....
Oh shit, these aunt and uncle are even worse than Petunia and Vernon. Assuming the angel isn't lying, of course.
Yeah, I saw this coming. Bye bye, aunty. I redouble previous statements about angel's dubious character, even if she is more adorable than Ryuk.
Nasse, huh. And Mirai is gonna be God. Gonna predict it right now, that won't happen. Whoever the villain is won't become God either of course but I dunno. I just don't foresee our hero being the Big G. That is reserved for shitheads like Tenchi Masaki who don't deserve it.
I can kinda see why people don't much like Mirai compared to Light. Light was certainly happier. Then again I guess Ryuk also made Light happy by giving him the Death Note? Don't think Light was suicidal or anything but he did seem happier after Ryuk dropped the notebook. Having a purpose in life is really the greatest satisfaction and happiness a person can hope for.
Chapter 2-
Maybe Nasse is just tempting him. The candidates are encouraged to do as they please it seems so I would imagine the "test" is seeing how wisely and nobly they use the gifts they've been granted. Of course, if I might be so bold as to predict where this is going an evil candidate will try to bump off all the others so they win by default.
Well, I certainly called that one. Then again, it was pretty obvious. Good bye comedian mook. I hope the other candiates are more interesting.
Mirai has a crush though? Childhood friend? Never heard that one before. I'm kinda already rooting for Mirai and Nasse, though.
Chapter 3-
HERO OF JUSTICE! And next page, HOT SEXY ANGEL CHICK!
That's my idea of justice, too.
Oh, Metropoliman is a high school student. I wonder if he'll go to school with Mirai.
So all the candidates were hopelessly depressed or disillusioned? I guess Rodriguez's thing was he couldn't find love. That's kind of interesting, though. It's like a weird new spin on It's A Wonderful Life only I guess not really.
Well I guess I should have seen this one coming. I just wasn't sure if Saki would turn out to be an important character or not. Looks like she has a chance for a bit more importance than I expected. But we shall wait and see.
I think I might try and get the other three chapters that are out later on but I of course still have Chapter 4 and 5 to read from what I already bought. But it's really hot here an dI'm distracted and want to post this before I lose everything.
So far, things seem promising enough. Art is good, as expected. The villain masquerading as a superhero is neat. I'm not sure if there is some overarching sinister motive here or if he's just some crazed Knight Templar. I can see why people are frustrated with Mirai. If most people had Red Arrows, they'd use them without hesitation.
Besides, really, if you become God, who's gonna tell you that you're immoral or evil?
Chapter 9 and 10… oh hey, stuff happens! Kinda.
Err, so, that's it for Mithrin, I guess? Talk about a pointless character.
This is turning into a Comic. Seriously, now I'm just waiting for the Avengers or the Justice League to pop up. Metropoliman's helmet is pretty damn sturdy… and Mirai doesn't think for a second to shot his ared arrow FROM A DISTANCE instead of stabbing MM with it.
These last two chapters aren't really interesting, but at least they're kinda entertaining.

Yeah… dunno… since Metropoliman appeared, I just can't get into it. The little girl's murder felt like pure shock value − and shocking it is, sure. But the characters who aren't cardboard cutouts are either assholes or have Blue-and-Orange Morality. I'd like to see ONE actually likeable and relatable character in this. Just one. Well, Mirai is okay I guess, but that's it…
