In the streets

Cole made something of a face, not saying anything considering all the others talking around them. After just a moment though, he let out a heavy sigh, pointing to Kelsey, keeping his gaze on the ground, express...annoyed.

"Being forced to hurt people you don't want to hurt isn't any less abusive than being hurt. You were still forced to do something you didn't want to do and you suffered from it. Just because the pain you felt wasn't the pain you inflicted, that doesn't make your pain any less legitimate than the pain of those you were made to harm. Hurting yourself isn't helping anyone, least of all yourself, and if you really, truly want to make up for what you did, you need to help yourself first."

He pointed to Ben next, still not looking up. "You have based your entire life in this city around being a hero, but I know from what I've seen of your family back home, and things you've told me of your life, that you weren't always like that. You didn't sit at home upset and sad and angry all the time, and rushing headfirst into dangerous situations, screaming into the sky. ...you have to stop trying so, so hard to prove yourself to a city full of people who you won't even see again within two weeks, and spend more time being Ben."

Cole got to his feet, letting out a breath, shaking his head. "Even in your comic book, with Superman, he spent time not being in his costume, fighting crime, and you have seemingly decided that you don't ever need to not be a hero, and all you are doing is ramming your head into a wall over and over and not realizing that simply running into the wall over and over isn't going to knock it down."

He finally looked at Ben, an unusually stern expression on his face. "You need to speak to someone about the trauma you've experienced...someone who can help you with it, and you need to listen to what they say rather than screaming at them because you don't like what they say or what they do. Miss Tairee will help you if you let her, and if you stop your childish tendency of putting everything in this city into categories of purely good and purely evil rather than accepting the shades of gray that real people actually are."

Cole then and only then looked at Tuudol. "And thank you for your concern, but shy of knowing the name of a proper doctor who can walk him through understanding the trauma he has obviously suffered and yet refuses to acknowledge, I do not know if you can make him feel better. And yes, she used to be in Ruckus, unwillingly, and she also needs that doctor."

All of that said, Cole took a couple steps back, then turned as though he were simply going to walk away again.

Cinema — What's the worst that could happen?

It was weird to hear apparently that the Phantom Thieves—or their methods at least—had been around for a while in Makoto's world. From what Rex had seen the majority of sequels were very connected to the original story, most of the time using the same main characters over and over again. So the fact this Persona series didn't follow that unwritten rule was a little odd.

"Why am I not surprised?" Rex joked after Makoto explained of Futaba's whereabouts. She was probably playing videogames from the looks of it.

Makoto kept trying to defend herself, saying that she had no ulterior motives to contact Ren other than apologize and thank him for his help. Rex of course had no problem with that but he was going to milk the scene for all its hilarity.

"I don't know, now I feel a little manipulated" Rex continued joking, crossing his arms to show he was 'offended' about Makoto's heartbreaking personality.

But joke time was over. At least according to Makoto. She naturally knew how things were going to develop and tried to warn Rex that things were going to get a little more serious. All of that had to do with the palace of this Kaneshiro fellow had built in his mind. The Phantom Thieves had to show why they were called that and steal the treasure kept in the floating. Everyone on the team was alive when Makoto had called them just a few days ago and they seemed to be doing okay, so things couldn't possibly get as bad as Makoto painted them.

"Alright, so I guess I won't get popcorn before this then"

Cinema-It Looks Worse Than It Actually Was... Maybe

Not even 5 seconds into this episode, Akechi showed up at her mock exam to “question” her about the Phantom Thieves. And by question, she meant rub his superiority directly in her face. Ugh, she should have told him how pathetic it was for a such an amazing detective to have to ask a regular high school student for information instead of digging for it himself, but that moment was long gone. Why did he have to act like he was a cut above her? Was it an attempt to make her jealous of him, just because he got to work with her sister? It was so childish, but it still annoyed her.

It cut to her room, which was fairly accurate, and then went right into a very uncomfortable flashback to her father and his funeral. Damn, why was his voice so accurate? And now it was covering the talk between her and Sis at the dinner table. Makoto sank a little lower in her seat as the memories came back in more detail than she’d like. This might have been a bad idea after all.

“... That happened a few months ago, it’s not… like that anymore,” she said, trying to soften the impact. At least it switched off to exploring the area around Kaneshiro’s palace. Ah, so the ATM people showed up after all… As she expected, her friends couldn’t get in without a “victim” to get the bank to come down to their level, and were forced to go back home.

The show moved on to the next day, where she approached the Phantom Thieves again to check on their progress. That motorcycle commercial playing on the jumbo screen was a bit heavy handed in her opinion, but she guessed that it couldn’t be helped if they wanted to drive home the point in a short amount of time. Funny enough, that last insult from Ann was fairly watered down compared to what actually happened, where Yusuke and Ryuji jumped in a little more. The whole thing didn’t actually upset her now, as it’d been months ago, so now she was looking at the entire sequence of events in a more objective manner.

Wow, that plan of hers to be brought straight to Kaneshiro really was bold. Stupid, but effective. And cutting it a little close towards the end before Ren and the others caught up with her. She really didn’t need a reminder of that near miss, but now that she was really thinking about it, Makoto realized just how little control she had over any part of that situation. She didn’t “escape” Kaneshiro. He let her go because he wanted to watch them squirm for money. If he really wanted to take those pictures of her, he could have done it whether her friends had shown up or not. It was… sobering. Watching herself admit how much she just wanted to help was kind of awkward too, but that’s how it was. She wouldn’t deny that was exactly how she’d felt.

“That was… a rough few days,” she said, giving Rex a weak smile. Things would get better soon enough. It was interesting to hear what Morgana had been saying before she could hear him though. So he’d come up with the idea of using her “customer” status to get into the bank that fast, huh? But then again, he knew the most about how the Metaverse worked.

Cinema — The strong must protect the sweet

"I so wanna punch this guy" Rex commented as Akechi made the cinema a hundred times more miserable with his presence. At least the Phantom Thieves knew he was a bad guy now but dammit if it wasn't tempting to see the guy in person and rough him up a little.

The next scene wasn't exactly better and it was something Makoto couldn't possibly predict which was pretty awful considering her warning beforehand. Seeing her life compressed into a few twenty minute episodes was bad enough already but being reminded of her father's untimely death was on another level. Rex didn't know what to do. He chose not to open his mouth for once, afraid he would make things worse. He knew her father had died not long ago but the involvement of some organization that preyed on weak people made things even worse. No wonder Makoto always tried to be such a champion of justice. It ran on the family.

And speaking off, for all the talk about her sister, it was time to finally see the woman in question. And it was quite the surprise. Someone as strict and inflexible as her with such a mind-numbing job... shouldn't look like that.

"Time out, that's really your sister?"

There's an old saying that if you want to see how a woman will age, you have to take a look at her mother. In lieu of that, in this case Makoto's sister was the next best thing. And it looked like her future wasn't half bad. Of course, while Rex considered his luck. Sae lost a lot of points by calling Makoto a blood-sucking leach. That also explained another aspect of Makoto: Her fear of being considered useless. You can only hear an insult so many times before you start assimilating it. She explained things were different now and that this particular incident had happened months ago. 'Just like with Noah' Rex thought. Of course, Noah wasn't still trying to manipulate Rex to keep him in check, even White Knight had grown up a little. He wasn't sure the same could be said about Sae.

"She still sounded pretty unreasonable when you described her a couple of days ago"

Things got a little more relaxing when the Phantom Thieves showed up again. It was interesting to see what Makoto had described about the bad guy's victims actually show up on-screen. Like a sort of confirmation that this series wasn't a load of bullcrap the Writer had made up on the spot to screw with them.

But the down time could only last so much. The team had no luck actually getting to the palace and was forced to call it quits for the time being. Makoto, however, had a plan. A very stupid and impulsive plan probably inspired by Ann's less than helpful words. A plan that was gonna get herself killed. Or worse. Rex built his sword and accidentally hit the ground before realizing what he was doing.

"Sorry... reflexes" he said, retracting it.

Luckily, the worst that had happened was that Makoto gained a massive debt. After such a dumb attempt to get information on the crime boss and a very narrow escape that was only product of his twisted desire to make the Phantom Thieves work for him, she apologized—she did that quite a bit, to be honest—and declared herself scum because of how much of a bother she had been thanks to her desire to be of help. It was actually a bit depressing to think Makoto had struggled with that for a while now but from the looks of it things were getting better. They could always get even better, though.

"I think I got what the warning was about. You know what you said is not true, right? You are reliable"

Fastanook let out another sniffle. "... I guess I should talk to her... But I can't stop remembering... Killing her... We're doing what we have to do to stop Tinkinzar, it's a war..." Fastanook muttered, trailing off and not finding a way to finish that thought before some footsteps approached from the stairwell off to one side.

"What's going on up here?" the gruff and bored sounding voice of Dave the troll asked as he strode up into view, pausing and staring a bit blankly at Fastanook and Riley. "... Oh, alright then" the doctor muttered, shifting his toga slightly, then leaning his head to one side and finally getting a slightly curious expression as he added while looking at Salamence, "is that a small dragon?"

"Help myself? There is no helping me anymore, and you got one thing wrong" Kelsey started, fists still clenching slightly. "It wasn't unwilling. That's the problem" she muttered a bit quietly, then turned and stormed off.

Tuudol watched Kelsey leave with his eyes a bit narrowed, then turned his attention back to Cole and Ben. "Young boy, I don't know if there's any doctors like that in the city anywhere, but I think I know some places to look for help. I'll be perfectly willing to take one or both of you along if you would like; just, first I should do something important" Tuudol said to them, then walked a little bit away and got a seashell walkie talkie from one of his tunic pockets. After messing with it for a moment, he held it up to his face. "Militia, come in, this is Tuudol from the old NHA" the bosmer started.

"I remember you, Tuudol. What do you need?" Wells' voice answered.

"I've just encountered a former Ruckus member. I think they're heading for that large building that appeared recently" Tuudol explained.

"A Ruckus member? Can you describe them?" Wells' voice asked.

"An angry woman, in red armor" Tuudol answered.

"That would be Kelsey alright... Patrol teams, are any of you at that building?" Wells' voice responded.

"This is Samson, we're at that large arena, yes. Speaking of the NHA, Del'Guk is here too, trying to take on the day challenge" Samson's voice answered.

"How is that going? Is it safe there?" Wells' voice inquired.

"It's not a battle, sir, there's no direct danger" Samson's voice responded.

"Good, then stay there and see if Kelsey arrives. Remember, we don't want a fight with her, we just want to talk" Wells' voice ordered. "... Rex, are you listening?" the lieutenant then demanded.

"Sorry Wells, I don't know where Rex is right now" Silanea's voice answered.

"Well where are you?" Wells' voice added

"The prison; I just dropped off the robot. I was about to try to find Rex myself" Silanea's voice responded.

Somewhere else outside, with Lewis

"Oh, it's you... I don't really want to talk about it. Not with you" Louie said, his voice far from happy, but too emotionally exhausted to be outright venomous. "... It's not safe for a lone pokemon, we should..." the trainer trailed off, having started to reach for the pokeballs of his remaining team members, but his hand stopped and his whole arm was shaking. Slowly, he clenched his hand and pulled it away, averting his gaze from Lewis and scowling slightly.

"... Here, see if you can catch it" Louie suggested, in a very quiet tone, reaching into his pack and pulling out a spare, empty pokeball. He held it out towards Lewis, still not looking at the ghost-turned-human.

Cinema, you can't be in a public place alone forever

"Hey there you two!" a familiar voice called out in a friendly tone behind Rex and Makoto. Up at the top of the amphitheater, where the selection tablet was, stood Chuck and Connor. "Watching your own show?" Connor asked, lowering the hand that he'd just waved in greeting with after calling out to them initially.

Lewis, outside, i for one am totally fine with shuppets becoming an invasive species irl but no, i gotta be playing a semi-responsible adult

"'Nuther long story. Okay then..." Fine then, I didn't want to unload my baggage either.

Evidently worried for the safety of a wild pokémon casually mulling about in a town that could suddenly be half-eaten by a rabid space hydra without warning, the trainer...handed me an ultra ball and asked me to catch it? Not even a quick ball, an ultra ball. Wasn't he the experienced trainer? Weren't you supposed to weaken it first? Weren't you supposed to use other pokémon for that? Why me? I didn't have shit.

I narrowed my eyes at him in half confusion and half suspicion that something was up, but took the ball anyway and gently tried to shoo Cascabel out of my hair where it'd started making itself comfortable. Apparently it wanted to try nesting there now that it could do so without burning itself. It floated in front of me, looking between me and Louie exactly once, like it hadn't figured out what I wanted by bugging it (besides ceasing its assault on my perfect style).

I held up the ball in preparation to just...sorta weakly flick it at the shuppet, at which it whined and pulled back a couple inches. Not one for ball stuff, then. Well then.

"Hey, uh. Question." I tilted my head at it. "If I like, catch it now and then go home later, do I just keep a useless empty ball while it sticks around or goes back to its home? Does it like come with me and I've uprooted it from everything it knows and is adapted to? Or do neither it or the ball come with me and it just sits in the thing until someone finds it and explains whoops, you don't have a trainer anymore, that didn't last long did it." A glance at the ultra ball. "Also, if you're not gonna fight it you should really be using a quick ball, by the by."

i guess you can watch me shitpost i guess

Somewhere outside, with Lewis

"W-what are you asking me for?! Ask the stupid librarian or something!" Louie responded in an annoyed tone, shaking a little more now. "It looked like it wanted to be with you so I thought it wouldn't put up a fight" the trainer went on, grabbing the pokeball back. Once more almost as if on reflex, he reached for his own contained pokemon on his belt, only to once again clench his fist and have his arm shake, also closing his eyes and clenching his teeth.

"Look, just, get in the ball for your own safety, will you?" Louie said towards the shuppet, the trainer's tone gentler now as he opened his eyes again. His eyes seemed a little watery.

"I can't say I really understand," Riley muttered, "wars haven't really been a problem in my world for hundreds of years. Still, this sounds like something she deserves to know at the very least. Your fears about this and what you think going forward, since it directly affects her."

Before he could finish, he was startled by the sudden appearance of someone who might have been a doctor? He wasn't sure, but he still shrugged and nodded in greeting.

"My friend just needed somewhere quiet to think," he explained, "and, well, yes, Salamence is a dragon-type. He's pretty average-sized for his species."

I say that aloud too sometimes, just: "man, no life."

The streets

Ben looked at Cole, who started to give him a giant dressing down. As Cole spoke, Ben just shook his head.

"In my world there wasn't an evil god trying to make people suffer, stealing them from their homes and their families, dropping monsters on their heads, all for the sake of a stupid book," Ben pointed out. "In my world things were safe except for the occasional bad guy attack. Here, we're never safe, if the Writer gets bored enough, he'll make icicles fall from the sky and stab people."

When Cole called Ben childish, Ben looked at him with a look of incredulous and pained anger. "You too?" Ben asked. "You're gonna call me some dumb kid too? Who are you to talk, calling me childish? What are you, like three years old? If all you're gonna do is tell me what a brat I'm being then you can go run off to talk to Miss Tairee yourself. Maybe she can read you a story and put you to bed," said Ben. "After all, the library is the only safe place here for kids, except when it isn't because evil birds show up," he continued venomously.

After that scathing remark, Ben looked at Tuudol disinterestedly. "Rex got sent home," Ben lied simply (and spitefully). "Don't bother looking for him. You're not gonna find him."

Cinema- A Lot Of Recurring Behavior Patterns Here

“You'll have to wait in line for that honor,” Makoto said after Rex wished he could punch Akechi. That was the least of what he deserved. She wasn't sure why Rex was so surprised about Sae’s appearance though. “Yes, that's her.” Makoto couldn't quite look Rex in the eye as she tried to defend her sister. “It's complicated, but I'm working on it. She's not a bad person, she's just...going down a bad path. We're going to help her realize that, and things will get better.” Rex building a weapon out of reflex after seeing her close encounter with Kaneshiro’s gang was startling, but also kind of cute. Was he really that affected by it?

“Hey, it's alright, this already happened, remember?” she said to him, taking his free hand. “Besides, they didn't even really hurt me. Except for… holding me down on the carpet. That left a couple of bruises.” But other than that, she'd been fine.

“I mean...I certainly try to be reliable. I was kind of in a bad place then. Like, a really bad place, but I promise I don't think that way anymore. Well...not very often.” She could admit that the last few days here had sort of brought back those feelings for a while. As the episode continued on into the Metaverse again in the background, someone else came over to join them. Weren't those two from back at the Militia base this morning?

“Oh, uh, hello…” she said to Chuck and Connor, standing up. “I wasn't sure I even had a show until now, so I just wanted to check here and see what it looked like. Is something going on?"

Herc then turned to face Rean and continued their own conversation like nothing had happened. "So what shall we do now?" He then asked him hoping to do something to forget the battle with the Predator.

In the streets

Cole stopped walking, not really responding as Ben went on his tirade, before he turned back to look at him, just still looking more exasperated than anything else, as he approached Ben.

"This is exactly what I am talking about, Ben. I told you something you didn't want to hear, and I immediately went from someone you considered a friend, to someone worth insulting and disparaging. You flip your allegiances on your whims because the fact that anyone around you couldn't be some absolute good or absolute evil thing is beyond you, and if someone isn't acting like one, they must be acting like the other...and if they don't automatically agree with anything you say, then of course they are also pure evil."

Cole abruptly drew his knife again, not really brandishing it, just holding it up. "I'm a murderer, Ben. I've never hidden that from anyone. I've killed more people than are in this entire city, multiple times over. Going from this city, I would guess that I have about the same number of deaths on my hand as the Writer. And a very large number of them likely didn't really deserve to die. They were doing what they thought was the right thing, at the right time."

He shook his head, putting one hand on his hips, still holding the knife at his side. "I am from a world, filled with multiple actively malevolent gods and spirits. At one time, I was one of them...and yet here I am. No, I don't agree with what the Writer is currently doing with the people here. Yes, there have been dreadful, awful, horrible days, and there are dreadful, awful, horrible people in this city."

He threw his arms out to either side, encompassing the street. "And yet look here, look at this woman you thought was absolutely unforgivable, absolute evil. She stopped to check on me, what appeared to be a child traveling alone. She managed to rise above her self-loathing long enough to show care for someone else. Look at Miss Tairee. Yes, she is here, at the willing employ of the creature imprisoning us, but can you say, truthfully, that she has done absolutely nothing good for us?" He pointed to himself. "Can you deny that a large part of her work ensured that I will not go back to Thedas, a world like this one, but without any helpful librarians able to offer us any comforts, any assurances of safety?"

Cole let out a sigh, rolling his eyes slightly. "The Writer has done a great deal that is terrible, Ben, for the sake of his book. You are right in that. But he has also granted a great deal of good to those of us who came from worlds that are much worse than this city we find ourselves in. That you are struggling so much with this concept proves that you came from a world that is better than this place, where you are a much bigger force for good."

He shook his head a little, finally, and only now, letting any small degree of compassion come into his voice. "When I first arrived here, when I attacked people who felt like demons to me, you and others were all so very quick to tell me not to do that, to remember that this world is not like my world. I have accepted that. But you are here...actively insistent that this world must be exactly like your own...that you, and apparently only you, are the sole being responsible for all things that ever happen. That no one else in this city has any power, any ability, or any responsibility for their own safety, their own actions, their own power. You have designated yourself as the only person who can ever do anything and in doing so you are rendering all the rest of us as nothing but helpless victims dependent on you and only you...and so when bad things happen, it can't be our fault, it must be your's. It may not seem that way to you, Ben...but that is deeply, truly selfish of you, to try to strip away the agency of anyone in this city for the sake of bolstering your own ego and holding yourself aloft."

Cole held the knife a moment more, as though considering something, before just putting it away again, shaking his head. "You are hurt, and in pain, and lashing out like an animal in a trap. Your worldview has been shattered. That is all understandable. But rather than seek help...rather than admit that for all your power and for as much of a hero as you are...and you are a hero, Ben, I will never deny that...that you are still also a child who is experiencing horrors you never could understand. You instead stubbornly try to force everyone and everything to be exactly what you want...nothing but black-and-white villainy and goodness, so that you can simply attack and hurt anything that hurts you, to try and feel better about the fact that you just can't do everything."

Cole sighed and looked to Tuudol again. "Also, Rex went with his friend Makoto somewhere. I don't know where. But he was still in the city as of...I don't know, half an hour ago. I'm going on my way. I suppose if you could let your militia friends know that I am fine and not to waste their time on reports of a toddler traveling alone, that might help you all in your work."

That said, Cole just turned away again to start walking off.

The streets — I really hope this is in character

Ben, for his part, was too exhausted to come up with more arguments, and he tried to listen to what Cole was saying. His eyes left Cole and starting looking at the floor as Cole explained to him. Ben's hands flew into his hair and he shook his head.

"What am I doing?!" Ben shouted. "What kind of hero am I being?! A crummy one! All I'm doing is making people mad at me and trying to fight people who are just trying to help me! I've gotta get to Hercules and say sorry..." He clutched his temples again and sighed, a ragged breath, shaking his head again. "No, not now. I need to get my head straight. I need to get to the library and sort this out..."

He looked up at Cole, seeing he was walking away. Ben started to run after Cole. "Cole, wait! I'm... I'm sorry! I'm not... I didn't..." He sighed. He probably did mean a lot of the stuff he said. Some hero he was being. Insulting his friends and trying to fight enemies he just couldn't beat.

Finally, he just reached out and moved to hug Cole, cuddling him slightly. Words had failed him. Tears streamed down his cheeks and his breathing quickened a bit but he was no longer wailing.

"Can we... can we go back to the library? I... I think I need to talk to Miss Tairee..."

Two Discloses Awful Stuff, Library

I looked at this good, innocent face and suddenly I couldn't help but feel bile rising up in my throat at what I was about to say. In light of Caboose's silence - perhaps he trusted me to explain it better than he could - it was my job to tell Yuna the bad news. "Me and Caboose have learned a few things about your world, about the threats you face and how it wears on you."

Take a deep breath, Two. You do this to help her, just like she helped you earlier. "...Yuna... The Vertex will never stop coming. You and your friends will serve The Shinju Tree until your selves are lost. You will be forgotten, left unnamed, just more husks serving its interests. That is why... that is why Togo let Vertex destroy the Shinju. Your world is over."

Lewis, outside, likes spicy, dislikes bitter

Man, and I just came from the library. "Hey, I didn't say I wouldn't," I told him, a little annoyed. "I just...wanted to know the implications. I only know anything about pokémon through video games, I could maybe guide it in a battle but I don't know what it needs. If this somehow ends in me keeping it..."

Cascabel itself stared at the ball after Louie snatched it back, before floating around him with a curious look, as if examining him. I wasn't sure what it was picking up on, but thinking about it, he seemed really...desperate?

I had a bad feeling about this.

"Did...You're really insistent on this, aren't you."

The shuppet, after finishing its once-over, decided to stop in front of him...fly 10 feet backward and blow a raspberry, as if to be a little shit.

Cinema — Third-wheeling

Makoto still tried to defend her sister, claiming that she was just misguided and that the Phantom Thieves would take care of that soon so there was nothing Rex had to worry about.

"I hope you are right. Just remember that the offer about me talking to her is still on the table"

And speaking of people that hurt Makoto, she also tried to calm Rex down about her encounter with Kaneshiro. Things hadn't gotten part the blackmailing part and it was obvious that Makoto wasn't in debt anymore so her friends and her had dealt with it. And sure, maybe he was getting a little too emotional about something he couldn't possibly change but seeing everything unfold on the big screen made it look even worse than it already was.

"They would be lucky to get a couple of bruises if I bumped into them"

"If it makes you feel any better, you helped me at least" he added as she recounted her negative feelings back when she joined the Phantom Thieves. He didn't say it but Rex was afraid she slipping back into that mindset what with the tendency to isolate herself, her impulsiveness, and whatnot.

The sudden appearance of two of the fanboys was met with a glare from Rex. He waved back but he was clearly annoyed about having been interrupted in the middle of a fairly personal conversation.

"Oh, what's up? We were... yeah, pretty much"

Hospital roof

"So... None of you are actually hurt?" Dave asked simply. Fastanook raised his head a little and shook it, saying nothing. "Well alright then" the doctor added dismissively, turning and heading back downstairs while muttering to himself, "other universes and their weird dragons..."

Fastanook lowered his head again and sniffled once. "... I just don't know if I can" Fastanook muttered weakly.

In the streets, with Cole and Ben

Tuudol was pretty silent, staring mainly at Cole with a very, 'what the actual fuck' expression. "Who... What are you, anyway?" Tuudol asked Cole, somewhat cautiously.

Cinema

"Nope, nothing going on. We just came back to watch something while we wait for the day to end" Chuck said in response to Makoto, giving a slight shrug.

"There's also video games. You might be from that instead" Connor mentioned, articulating with a simple gesture at the selection tablet.

Somewhere outside, with Lewis

"It's just, not safe, in this city" Louie muttered shakily in response to Lewis. When Cascabel decided to try being annoying, the trainer didn't seem annoyed, but rather had his eyes widen in some kind of familiarity. He took in a bit of a sharp, shuddering gasp, but didn't say anything yet.

Hospital Roof

"Ah, no, sorry," Riley said to Dave, "we didn't mean to be a bother or anything." Fortunately, the doctor just seemed rather dismissive, so the encounter ended as quickly as it began.

That just left Riley dealing with a very complicated matter on his own. How fortunate. "I can't imagine how difficult this must be. If I were in your shoes, I don't know if I'd be able to. But, this really isn't going to just go away on its own, right? Even if she gets sent back and you never see her again, you still have so much guilt inside that needs to be dealt with.

"I'm not pushing you to meet her this very second if you're not ready, but can you honestly tell me that you'd rather not talk to her at all? That you genuinely think that just hiding from her will make anything better?"

I say that aloud too sometimes, just: "man, no life."

Cinema- Nostalgia

Well, it was nice to hear that at least one person did feel like she helped them with something...or was Rex just saying that in an attempt to be supportive? Maybe she should just take his word for it.

“Oh, I thought something happened with the Militia," Makoto said as the episode continued on in the background. She could hear Kaneshiro making his threats to her and the Phantom Thieves, thought these were far more…direct than they were outside the Metaverse. "Actually, someone at the arcade told me about a game I was in yesterday. I think this is some kind of shortened animated version. I thought that'd be faster than trying to play the full video game”- She was interrupted by her own voice yelling, and she turned around it time to watch the moment where she had first gained her Persona. Makoto winced as she watched her animated self painfully tear off her mask, leaving a mess of blood across her face until she was consumed by a pillar of blue energy.

“Did it really look like that…?” Makoto said, rubbing the back of her neck. It was kind of...gruesome. At least the worst of it was over now.

“This is an odd, but well timed reminder of the vow we made as you first awakened…” Anat said to her. ”Always keep it in mind.”

Rean || Outside market

Then the man turned and walked away, his presence fading as he moved. "Yeah, definitely weird." Rean said, looking in the man's general direction until he clipped out of range.

Then Hercules asked what they should do next. " I don't know about you, but I could use a break." He then turned around, looking further into the market. "How about we get something to eat? Then we can go to the library, or the cinema again." He hadn't eaten since Two's breakfast earlier...then again, how did that even work with the respawning thing? He shrugged, walking into the market. He could think about that after food...or never. That probably was a better idea.

In the streets

Cole stopped when Ben came towards him, looking up, and allowed the other boy to hug him, though not really hugging back, but certainly not resisting either. He finally just patted Ben's back a bit, sighing, not in displeasure. "Yes, we should get you to Miss Tairee. Thank you for understanding my meaning. I want you to feel better about all of this."

To Tuudol, Cole gave him a slight shrug. "I am an ancient immortal spirit who accidentally gained human life when the person I was trying to help died in my arms, and after coming to this city, earned the right to gain a childhood."

The streets

Ben smiled weakly and held onto Cole for a bit, nodding before letting him go.

"Thanks, Cole," Ben said, starting to walk with the spirit-turned-boy. "I'm sorry I've been such a dweeb. I'm really not sure if I should try and make it up to people or what, but I'm glad you understand... I just got so scared for my friends and I... I didn't wanna see people get hurt anymore. I've seen enough of that. But you're right. You think Miss Tairee will be able to help?"

He sighed as he walked. "I dunno... is Miss Tairee gonna even wanna speak to me?" he asked, sounding unsure. "I was a jerk to her. A big one... and she was only trying to help, what if she just pushes me away?" said Ben, quietly.

"It's not that I don't want to... It's just so painful..." Fastanook admitted, frowning.

Cinema

"Well if it's not exactly the same as you remember, you're probably from the game" Connor commented with a nod. "We're still not sure of the exact details, but from what we've pieced together and what the librarian and her friend have been allowed to tell us so far, we think that different media versions of stories are actually different universes, or different timelines" the Fanboy explained.

"And video game worlds must have a ton of different potential timelines too. Even if you can't change the story, there's at least the game over timelines..." Chuck added in.

In the streets, with Cole and Ben

"... Oh. An immortal spirit. Well that's, uh... That is sure a thing" Tuudol commented in a reluctant, uncertain tone. He let out a sigh though, and shook his head as if to get things back on track.

"I don't know if the librarian is allowed to just push people away, Ben. I've heard that even people who attacked her are still allowed to ask her for things" Tuudol mentioned to Ben, leaning down a little to be more on the boys' level. "How about I help you get there? Come on" the bosmer offered, holding out a hand.

Ben glanced over at Tuudol, looking a little relieved, though unsure.

"You sure?" Ben asked. "Uh... okay..." Hesitantly, Ben reached for Tuudol's hand and took it, holding onto it for security. "Uh... lead the way. And uh, if you see Silanea. Tell her I'm sorry. I was a jerk to her too..."

Cinema — Don't shit on the progress

"Wait... you have a game?!" So Makoto had been on a series and a videogame. Rex didn't know he was apparently going out with a famous star. Maybe he could ask Tairee for a copy later. "Do you think I could beat this guy up in it?" he asked, pointing at the screen.

The way Kaneshiro enjoyed describing in detail what Makoto's fate would be if she didn't manage to pay back her debt was starting to seriously piss off, he wanted to go punch a wall or something. And he apparently wasn't the only one since Anat decided to intervene in a very brutal and bloody fashion. He wasn't expecting her first appearance to be like that. He approved, though.

"That's hardcore! That guy is toast. And I guess that explains a thing or two about your thing with honesty"

Not content with just mentioning the game, the fanboys went on about how that proved there were alternate realities of Makoto's world. Even casually bringing up the "game overs" such a medium would naturally have.

"That's very interesting and all but it's better to not think too hard about it" Rex said, dismissively.
