Library
"I think the librarian explained that the building materials and the place we're doing the challenge would be given to us when the challenge starts, so we have some time until then," Makoto said. Caboose didn't seem to be following her anymore, though she did wonder where he went off to.
"I guess that's so we're forced to start on even terms..." She assumed that cheating would get them disqualified, and she didn't want to know what happened if they irritated whoever was making the rules around here. "But I don't think anything's stopping us from gathering a team beforehand. I'll help you track down whoever you're looking for." She didn't know who Rex or Yoshika was, but she could help them travel faster, at least.
The library doors opened again, and Makoto turned around and recognized Fastanook as he carried in another group of tiny people. She remembered Wells' voice from earlier, and assumed that the rest of the people with him were part of his group. It was hard to really understand what he was saying, other than her catching that they were looking for something. But what?

Eve|Mindscape|She's The Most Munchkin Of These Guys
Eve rolled her eyes at Resentment. "...none of that matters....we're here now...and we're helping......it doesn't matter that they weren't there...because we are. She read the message from TESTER and gave an almost imperceptible nod. "...charge attack at Resentment with a Gold Rush."
[TOP SECRET]"my world is a game too," Sans rebutted, not looking bothered in the slightest by Resentment's response, "and in that game there is a human who rewind time itself as they will, giving them free reign to do anything they want without any consequences, because even if they die they'll just come back and we would be none the wiser due to time rewinding. i've lived the past couple of years aware that nothing i did really mattered, because at a moment's notice everything would be set back to zero. we were just some kid's toys and once they got tired of us they just threw us away and killed everyone in our kingdom. how lucky i am, huh?"
Sans then chuckled, amused by how Resentment's copycat act was falling apart in a matter of seconds.
"i don't know all the other members of the nha, but i know some of them wanted to help her feel better but just didn't know how to do it. a lot of people didn't even know about what silanea had gone through, i had to tell them, i was the one who informed curly and rex about what actually happened and it's because of them that we're here now. but it doesn't matter, what matters is that i'm not going to stop now, even if this dumb game doesn't work out for us, i'll find a different method somehow. and if it came down to it, then i would even be willing to trade my world for her people if it would save her from being even more miserable than i was back then," he spoke, sounding dead serious as he said his last sentence.
I didn't want to engage in all this back-and-forth...but these things usually worked, didn't they? Or maybe that was just an anime thing. Totally didn't watch one where it failed in recent memory. Nope. I had opted to ignore it when Tester decided to float down just a few feet away and quietly point out that Resentment was now distracted and could be surprised.
Right. How hard could this be.
"Whoop de doo, one person got in by accident. Let's genocide the human race. Look at that, my world is now uninhabited. Wouldn't that be a nice way to thank the guy who had this idea in the first place. Yeah. I had the idea to ask the omnipotent dude to help her. Why do you think there's a challenge in the first charged melee item, bitch."
i guess you can watch me shitpost i guessLibrary
Caboose realized what he was looking at. There was a red soldier inside, albeit one in armor that he'd never seen before. That must mean that this building was in fact an upside down pirate ship.
"Caution is advised Captain Caboose," Freckles mechanically intoned.
Ignoring his friendly gun's warning, Caboose walked up to the marine and said "Hello there, my name is Caboose. What is your name?"
Why is a yam attacking me?Library
The Riddler could not exactly hear all of what the militia members were saying but given their authoratative air, their darting gazes around the library, and the fact that one of them he swore said "Riddler," he could make a fair guess.
"Looks like the stakes have been raised a bit. New plan - I'll find Yoshika and you all can find this Rex character. We can meet back here when things are a bit less...hectic." the Riddler whispered to his two compatriots, nodding as Makoto filled him in on what would be happening with the building materials.
"If I am captured, try and spring me as quickly as possible. These small-minded goons don't have the plans for this city that I do. They'll only stand in our way." the Riddler proclaimed, drawing his pistol and walking casually underneath as many tables and chairs as he could on his path to the exit.

Library
As soon as The Riddler started acting differently, Makoto finally connected the dots. He was who the militia was looking for. She wasn't about to let the Riddler slip away from them unnoticed, even if she didn't fully understand if they were a fair group or not. Those were all details she could figure out later.
"Right, we'll spread out and leave from different exits," she said, agreeing with the "plan". Makoto glanced between her fake boss and the approaching law enforcement, and then settled on her own strategy. Since fighting wasn't allowed in the library, she'd go outside and loop around the library entrances to cut Riddler off from there. She just had to be careful around that pistol he had. Makoto forced herself to stay relaxed as she walked off in another direction, heading for the nearest revolving door.

Digger - Street Corner
"...Huh. That's an...awfully nice way of looking at it." I said thoughtfully. The thought, however, was quickly shot down as the fairy started complaining about my lack of experience with, well, other fairies. "Look, that's just where I come from." I put my hands up defensively, though I didn't think she'd get mad enough to actually lash out at me. "I'm sure that where you come from, fairies are these nice little buggers who grant wishes and sprinkle pixie dust everywhere to make things float around with magic or whatever. Now, with all that said..."
I took off my backpack and dropped it in front of Vambre and Astolfo. "I'll take you to the library, if you want. Just hop in and we'll get going. Oh, and be careful with the pickaxe. That's basically my only tool/weapon here, and I don't need it breaking in the middle of a showdown."
(holds pool noodle threateningly) Do you want to know what we do to artists?Ben ignored Arcade's comment about how he really hated this place and instead caught on his reaction to Cole and how upset Cole seemed to get.
"Hey, Cole, you all right?" Ben asked, frowning a bit. "Eve's... well, she hasn't changed since I last saw her," Ben admitted. "She's still unconscious, though it wouldn't hurt to keep checking up on her. I'm worried about her too." At that moment, Fastanook came in the door, and Ben tried as hard as he could to hide the Spiral Knights clothing he had retrieved from Miss Tairee, as well as quickly stuffing the Spiral Knights book into his bag of holding.
Then Wells mentioned The Riddler. Ben's eyes furrowed, and he stepped forward (also making sure not to step on anyone in the process.)
"The Riddler?! Like, the Batman villain?! He's here? Oh man, as soon as I find him I'm gonna show him how a hero runs things in this City! Put him behind bars for good!" Ben insisted loudly. "Riddle me that!" Feeling rather confident, he glanced back down at Spyro and grinned when he accepted the offer to join the City Knights.
"Awesome!" Ben exclaimed, handing Spyro the walkie talkie. "Set that to channel 10 and press the button when you want to talk to us." Ben then glanced down at Arcade, who was apparently gonna get to ride on Spyro's back to fly to the hospital. He slumped a little bit. "You get to ride on a dragon's back? C'mon... The one time when being little would be awesome..." Ben muttered.
I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.Resentment was clearly caught off guard by the sudden change in tactics the team had adopted. Rex couldn't help but smile at how easy it was to make him squirm. He brought some good points but it was nothing Rex couldn't easily deal with.
"No, it actually does help. Even if—when we bring back her people, Silanea needs help dealing with all these feelings. She can't keep beating herself because of an honest mistake. Seeing that people are perfectly willing to comfort her because of what happened is part of that help"
The fake skeleton felt bringing up Rick's apathy was enough to prove his point but that wasn't more than a cheap shot.
"Aw come on, this is Rick we're talking about. He's always like that"
But nevermind that, Sans' story was either a massive lie he had pulled out of his ass to help Silanea cope with her issues or... did he seriously just say he was stuck in a time loop?
"Uh Sans... what the heck are you talking about?"
That could wait, anyway. Right now reasoning with Silanea was more important and the implication that anyone there would give up at the first sign of trouble was comedy gold.
"That's where you are wrong, shrimp! If you are part of Silanea's mind then you definitely know who I am. Put a wall between me and the hope of her people and I'll just burst through it. Make things more difficult, and then I'll probably have to break a few bones. And I'm going to stay here and help even if it means literally punching Silanea's Resentment to the ground. Case in point" he faced Tester, being unable to hide his smugness after hearing Curly's plan since it could actually work "You heard the lady. I want to attack Distrust with the Boogie Pack's bolas"
Naturally Sans also wasn't going to give up on the challenge and even went so far as to say he was willing to exchange the existence of his world with Silanea's village. Rex hoped he was just bluffing to look tough.
"...that's a little extreme. Let's hope it doesn't come down to that"
"Actions processed. We will begin the next turn now" Tester said aloud.
"what? wait, but what about my attack?" Resentment then asked, turning around to look at Tester.
"You are clearly using your action to force Friendship to remain silent instead" Tester replied plainly.
"huh? but that's not... oh, you bastards think you're so clever, don't you?" Resentment muttered angrily as he turned back to the party again, having realized what happened. "well don't expect it to work a second time" he then told them in a resolute tone.
"First will be free actions and defensive actions" Tester started off. Guilt D, next to Sans and Rick, started to sway back and forth more. Like before, Sans continued to just stand there for the moment. Eve, with control over her own body, was given a few moments to get rid of her wings and form her Gold Rush fists instead.
"Next would be special actions, but there aren't any to speak of. So we continue to melee attacks" Tester continued.
18+3=21
Rick uses Dodge!
11+4=15 result: hit!
Guilt C deals 7 damage!
Guilt C swung an arm forward at Rick, which seemed to clip into his torso as if incorporeal; as it dragged its arm back out, black tendrils of shadow, almost like thick oil, trailed back from its hand where it hit Rick, sloshing downward onto the ground before dissipating upon hitting the ground. Left on the ground when the black sludge disappeared was blood. Rick's blood. This was despite there being no visible wound left on Rick, but boy did it sure hurt like the dickens.
Resentment uses Dodge!
Guilt E suddenly took a swing at Resentment, but the faux skeleton easily sidestepped it. "oh great, now one of the guilts is gone nuts. distrust, get this thing back in line!" Resentment complained.
7+7+3=17
Rick uses Dodge!
2+4=6 result: hit!
Distrust deals 6 damage!
Distrust made a deft step forward and slashed the knife across Rick's torso, leaving a bleeding gash. "I see you're made of sterner stuff than your grandson! But can you keep it up for long?" Distrust asked devilishly.
Resentment uses Dodge!
For a brief moment, as Lewis' object flickered into existence, it was something appropriate, like a baseball bat. But then, it was instead a giant foam novelty finger, which clumsily swung through the air just in front of Resentment, as he didn't even bother to move. "... honestly i'll just let that one speak for itself" Resentment muttered, sounding almost surprised himself.
"Now, ranged attacks" Tester went on.
15+5=20
Distrust uses Dodge!
4+7=11 result: hit!
Curly deals 21 damage!
"What? Oh fuc-" Distrust started, and ineffectually tried to move to one side to avoid the sudden beam of death that hit his torso. After it stopped, his shirt was left much the worse for wear, and he was burned, and breathing heavily. "Okay... That hurt" he muttered in a bitter tone.
1+3=4
Distrust uses Dodge!
18+7+3=28 result: miss!
Rick's arm moved on its own as he pointed his laser pistol forward at Distrust's face, pulled the trigger, and the gun didn't even fire.
20+2=22
Distrust uses Dodge!
19+7+3=29 result: miss!
From above, Rex's bolas shot off and zipped down at Distrust, but this time with a deft roll to one side, the attack missed, hitting the ground instead. "Hah! Even at your best, you can't get me that easily!" Distrust hollered up at Rex, though was still wincing in pain.
"There is no movement actions this round, so last will be charge attacks" Tester then informed them.
Resentment uses boosted Defense!
So as before, Eve was allowed to charge forward and launch the assault on her own, but with each punch from her hair that she threw, Resentment perfectly blocked them- by flipping a coin from his pocket into the punch. "hey, this is really fun too! i think i'll use defense from here on out" Resentment noted with a casual tone as he blocked the onslaught.
Once Eve was forced to back off or else face a penalty, Resentment looked over the battlefield again. With a somewhat determined look, he pointed his arm right at Eve. Distrust meanwhile, looked over at Guilt E, then frowned. "Alright, time to get things on track" Distrust mentioned to nobody in particular, then stomped on the ground a couple times before crouching down and stabbing the ground with his pocket knife. "Hey! HE-EEY! Don't forget who's fucking responsible for all your problems! Come on, you stupid bitch!" the man then yelled out loud.
Guilt E seemed to shudder for a moment, then looked away from Resentment and towards Lewis and Eve, hissing angrily; particularly at Eve. "Her fault- she trusted them, they always lie!" Guilt E growled.
The marine was silent for a moment, staring at Caboose with the blank glass of the helmet providing about as little context for his expression as Caboose's own helmet did. "Keep your shirt on, Sparky" the marine then said.
Up above, on the tray Fastanook was holding, Nails looked at Ben and nodded. "Yeah, we think it's the Riddler. From what the guys who encountered him said, anyway" Nails confirmed.
"Now hold on a second there, Ben. We can't just be throwing people behind bars for things they've done back in their home universe. It would be unfair to always apply our morality without knowing the circumstances that might've driven them to do it in their home universe; or would you suggest I arrest every soldier who's fought in wars in their home universe because you don't morally agree with killing in war?" Wells said in a criticizing tone to Ben. "Now that said, this 'Riddler' fellow, if it is really him, had some kind of altercation with a few of my officers. Nobody got hurt, but I still intend to confront him and get things sorted out" the militia leader continued, folding his arms.
Little Spiderbee continued frowning, but it was a more thoughtful frown now than outright throwing a fit kind of frown. "Well if you knew that, why'd you treat me like a fairy from your universe? That's profiling" Little Spiderbee said, placing her hands on her hips.

You are reading this....Well, I got carried away, and now I looked stupid.
"I don't know what I expected."
I glanced around awkwardly, noting what was probably Resentment's special about to be aimed at Eve. "I'll just...get this one out of the way." I pointed a thumb at the Guilt that was trying to kill me and Eve with its gaze. Mostly Eve. "It's gonna die in one hit anyway, one little punch will do it. You guys over there, keep doing what you're doing and uh, you brace yourself."
A beat.
"Can I fistbump Friendship as a free action."

"Hmm? Oh, you don't have to worry about carrying me there, I've got just the thing." Astolfo said upon seeing the nice wombat offering to take them off with his backpack before moving back, as if in preparation of something. "Hippogriff!" The moment he said that and as if on cue, a large majestic Hippogriff(or at least, as large as far as the minipeople are concerned) materialized out of existence beside the young paladin, to which he quickly rode on its back before taking off into the sky, before keeping himself to just about the Digger's eye level.
"There! Now you just have to lead the way while I follow suit. So, what do you think? Neat, huh~?" He exclaimed to himself, expecting some sort of reaction. "Oh, which reminds me." He suddenly swooped down to ground level, remembering about the warrior. "Hey, Vambre! Wanna know how it feels like riding a hippogriff?" He asked, clearly offering her a free seat behind him.
Eve|Mindscape|Well, Shit
Eve dropped her wings and summoned her golden fists when the time was right, rushing Resentment when the opportunity was given. To her frustration, however, nothing worked, and she found herself blocked by a coin, of all things. This was remarkably annoying. She stopped after the volley of ten, not hugely wishing to find out whatever the punishment for going against the dice rolls were.
She watched what else was going on, in particular, one of the Guilts turned against Resentment, and Distrust changed its mind back to hating humans. Her, in particular. Which was interesting. She tilted her head. "...not everyone lies...besides...isn't blaming an entire species for the actions of a group exactly what the humans of Silenea's world did?" A pause. "...isn't what you're doing...blaming innocents for the actions of the guilty...be it humans or Silenea herself....doesn't that make you no better than those knights?" Another pause, as Eve ralised she'd be targeted next. "...TESTER, I'll be boosting Dodge..."
[TOP SECRET]Go Get Him, You Dummy Furry; Library Desk
"See? He's ready to help." Shenhua smiled, gesturing briefly to Spyro. Then the Militia walked in - well, Fastanook walked in with a tray full of Militia - and she couldn't help but snicker at the situation. Then again, she could have been very well be put in the same predicament.
Anyway, first things first. "He right there, Veela! Go get him!" She shouted over to the gremlin lady with an encouraging gesture of pumping the air with her fist.
Tester's screens flashed quickly in silence for a moment before he spoke. "I am sorry, but no. Not as long as she's trapped in that cage" Tester said to Lewis simply.
"oh yeah, give her more reasons to feel guilty, kid. that'll make her feel better" Resentment said in a sarcastic tone, though it was dry and bitter.
"The Guilts won't listen to reason! They're too dug in! too feral!" Friendship said urgently from her cage, looking a little beaten up from the previous shaking.
Little Spiderbee saw the tiny hippogriff being summoned in the corner of her vision, and looked at it for a moment with a quiet, amazed, "oooh! So cute!" But then she returned her attention to Digger.
"Eh? But, I told you, he won't talk to me!" Veela said to Shenhua, somewhat nervously.
You are reading this.Digger - Street Corner
I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose again in frustration. It was like I was talking to a kid. "Blood and shale, lady, but aren't you indignant...look, it's nothing against you, it's just that where I come from—" I paused when Astolfo started riding a bird with horse legs from out of nowhere "—where I come from, wombats are not supposed to be with fairies, and I'm trying my best to keep it that way, even if nobody sees or cares. It's a cultural thing."
(holds pool noodle threateningly) Do you want to know what we do to artists?Kamina continued to rub Simon's back, who was starting to recover. He replied to Shenhua's disbelieve and Gon's sigh with "You'll see! The mighty Kamina never backs down and never looks back!"
He then focused on Ben. A offer for his group huh? Well, he had a counter offer for that! But first Simon had something to say. With a quiet, thoughtful voice, he told Ben, "This place is so scary at times. Without Kamina, I don't know if I could handle any of it. People to help fight away all of that...........What do you think bro?"
Kamina had to stop and think for a bit. It was clear that Ben wanted to beat up that Writer bastard just as much as him. It wasn't Team Dai-Gurren and Kamina wanted them in his team but hey! A team-up was just what was needed! The leader of Team Dai-Gurren pointed his thumb at himself and answered Ben's request with, "Two brothers from Team Dai-Gurren, fighting spirits burning bright and moving full force to drill to the heavens! In a land without beastman threat, they have to continue fighting! That's why I, Kamina, accept your offer! The Writer will see just who the hell we are!"
Speech done with, he crossed his arms and explained, "As for Cole, only asked because a few days ago he was acting-terrifying-weird. Biting people, making all these threats, and generally acting like a bozo" but Kamina looked at Cole, adding, "Though he looks less dark and freaky and more like a kid now."
Cole didn't really respond to Ben's question or Tairee's request at first, just keeping his gaze away from everyone and lowering his eyes to the ground. Once Kamina explained that he had been...different, the day before and such...he noticeably hunched his shoulders a little, starting to rock himself on his feet and wringing his hands a bit.
"I...I hurt people. I hurt...I hurt Arcade, I...scared him...very badly. I...I should go now, I'm sorry, I...it's...fine..."
Library
Most people would probably have just wandered away after being told to keep their shirt on in response to asking for a name, but Caboose had a different reaction than most would have. "I... how did you know I was thinking about taking my shirt off? Are you psychic?!" he exclaimed rather loudly for his current size.
This could probably go on forever if no one intervened.
Why is a yam attacking me?

"What? I don't understand what you're saying; we wouldn't put someone's head on a pike!" Little Spiderbee complained indignantly. "How would I lift someone's head, or a pike?! And how would you know fairies are so bad if you never talk to them?! That's just unfair!" the fairy continued, puffing out her cheeks. For the moment, carrying any of the tiny people to the library was forgotten.
"Alright Ben" the Miss Tairee on the desks said in a neutral, slightly patronizing, 'that's nice, dear' kind of tone. Then she looked over at Cole as the boy started to retreat from the conversation. "Okay Cole, but you shouldn't avoid eating for long. If you starve, people are going to be sad for you" the librarian told him, before adding, "let me know if your stomach starts rumbling, okay?"
Down in the central desks area, Caboose would find that the odd barracks didn't really seem to have a door, though it did seem to have windows which were currently flashing, as the whole building bobbed up and down slightly on its little legs. Then suddenly, with no prompting whatsoever, a tiny marine in red armor
◊ appeared right in front of the barracks, announcing his new existence with a cry of, "You want a piece of me, boy?" The marine, who was just a little bit shorter than Caboose, turned slightly to look at him. "This better be good..." the marine said in a somewhat dry tone.
One of the revolving doors pushed open, and Fastanook walked in, carrying a plastic tray with a few tiny figures sitting on it: Wells, Samson, Nails, Phillip, Louie, and Thomas. Louie and Thomas seemed to be in the middle of a quiet discussion. Fastanook stopped in his tracks with his eyes widened a little. "Veela?!" Fastanook said, looking kind of... Scared.
"Fastanook! Remember why we're here!" Wells barked up at the gremlin.
Fastanook took a moment to swallow, then nodded. "Y-yes sir" Fastanook muttered, and started walking towards the center of the room.
"Keep an eye out for that 'Riddler'" Wells ordered the other militia members, trying to peer down around the floor and between the furniture from his relative vantage point on the tray.
Veela of course noticed them come in as well, and closed the art book quickly then made to hide it on her person while taking a step back. She looked uncertain, and a little bit worried.
Dave had just managed to reach the edge of the mattress, and was starting to pull himself up when Morty awoke screaming, and Dave let out a startled yell and accidentally let go, falling back to the floor.
"... Kid, did you just make some dated movie reference?" Dave asked from the floor.
"Aw, guys..." Friendship muttered, and started to glow a bit.
Resentment glanced down and looked alarmed. "whoa, hey! damn it, no!" Resentment muttered angrily, placing both hands on the cage and shaking it, knocking Friendship around a bit violently. He stopped for a moment and glared at the party with narrowed eyes. "so, if silanea helped so much, where's the nha been when she needed them, huh? it's just like you said, she's done more than most people in the city, and what have those people who should be grateful to her done? oh, they threw a party, to try to get some, 'happy wappy feel good' vibes or some crap. none of that actually helps her in any practical sense; when she had a chance to really change her life for the better, none of those people helped her out. instead some lucky, lazy bastard got help instead, from people that didn't even like him; some fair world it is, huh? just goes to show that the silanea is meant to do nothing but suffer. suffer for the enjoyment of whatever twisted kids play the 'game' that her world apparently is" the faux skeleton tried to retort at them at length, motioning a hand vaguely at the silhouette behind him.
In Distrust's belt held cage, Trust had stood up and started to whack on the bars while trying to say something, but his squeaking was lost in the noise. Distrust glanced down at him for a moment, but didn't seem concerned at all; unlike Resentment with Friendship.
"If you would like to leave, you could simply allow yourself to be killed. Or even shoot yourself" Tester mentioned to Rick, slowly floating around the battlefield above everyone's heads.
Distrust started laughing. "Yeah sure buddy, just let me knife you like your grandson!" Distrust said, then kept laughing, throwing his head back as he laughed harder.
"pff, yeah, and then there's that asshole proving you guys wrong. somebody who came in here, to silanea's head, doesn't even actually want to help. even at this most crucial juncture for silanea, it would be better for someone else if she just wasn't around in the first place" Resentment continued, though it seemed like he was maybe grasping at straws here. Then he looked at Curly. "and lady, don't think i'm worried about what you said. silanea knows there's only so long in this city before everyone's sent home. if we stop you enough times, you fail, so don't act like your victory is inevitable, because it isn't" the faux skeleton told her.
Tester had stopped his floating, now behind Resentment. One of his screens stopped flashing and displayed something.
