Lewis - Radio Station - Giving an Honest Effort Despite Probably Being Screwed Anyway

Being thoroughly disgusted at it and figuring my chances of survival weren't all that great anyway, I fully intended to give the sopping wet page away to whoever was nearest me. That Rick, by some apparent failure to be nauseated, decided to grab for it happened merely to be a minor convenience.

Speaking of the page...Chainsaw? Check. Suspect-looking face? Check. Yep. Probably what's-his-face. "It's actually the Texas chainsaw man, Morty," I commented offhandedly as I swiped a mic stand and some loose bolts, remembering the age-old survival horror adage of 'if it's not nailed down, take it'. "Doubt that helps but, y'know."

And, figuring it'd slightly lessen my odds of being the unfortunate sap who gets separated from the rest of the party, then driven into a corner and murdered, I made something of a brisk walk to where everyone else was, careful to watch my step for the wire.note

In due time, it started trying to break down the door, seemingly encouraged by cries from a drunk old man drawing attention to the budding young couple. Not that I had any qualms about shipping it, but didn't that idea seem a little suspect when one of them was visibly holding a page with all the enthusiasm I'd had finding it?

Poor Morty didn't seem to be enjoying himself on that front. For a minute, I considered letting him wrap it up in my ascot so he wouldn't have to hold it directly, but then I considered the possibility of having to dress a wound in the near future and decided to forgo the idea.

I settled for quipping, "You know, on a normal day I could have that down in half the time this guy is taking."

Yoshika, with Selfish People, Party of One
There was a very short point in time where Yoshika stared at Jack in disbelief. Was it suicide if you weren't guaranteed to die? She knew that this was their ticket to salvation, that if they did this, everyone would be safe again. Safe for the rest of the day! Yoshika would have proved her worth, as a human...and Jack didn't want a part of it? He didn't think that was worth the effort? Being in larger numbers just increases the chances of success, they can't kill all of them! Yoshika stared at him, unable to understand what was happening...

...but she did understand something else. Jack called her idea pointless. He called her stupid. Stupid, for wanting to help people any way she could? That was a stupid thought. This man, standing before her and acting like he knew better, was the stupid one. Her face slowly contorted as she barely contained her anger.

This man was selfish. Those kids were scared, but they'd listen to him if he told them to. You say anything stern enough, and people will listen. He had no idea what he was speaking about...and, he called her stupid. She couldn't act polite, like she should have. Yoshika had to lash out.

She stepped closer to the boy and leaned up into his face, and did exactly as she needed to. "They're not supposed to be here? None of us are! We're all struggling in the same way! We're all trying to fight against the same thing, so carry your share of the weight! Dying doesn't even matter in this city if everyone comes back! I've died three times, and with that last one, I saved everyone! I'll do it again to show you it's not POINTLESS!"

Yoshika didn't wait for anything, and immediately stormed off, bag over her shoulder and very well-traveled boltcutters in her hand. She kept on walking, to go and do it herself. She didn't turn to see if the tiger followed her, she didn't want to look at the faces of the people who listened to Jack. She didn't want to look at anyone.

Like that, Yoshika kept walking for a while, and reached a corner down the street...until she promptly fell to her knees. Out just before the city's shifting could move her away, she was still in sight of the rest.

Outside

Jack stared down at Lucas with a mixture of worry and pity at his words, but said nothing. He didn't want to say anything, in case he gave away the fact that, if he had really wanted to go, there wasn't much the former spirit could do to stop him.

Then Yoshika started shouting. The Guardian tensed, eyes darting around quickly to make sure nothing was coming, then focused on the young girl; Expression neutral. When she turned to leave, he watched her go sadly, sighing. Her reaction, it had just strengthened his determination to do something for the young children stuck in this hellhole. The way she had an almost desperate need to do something and prove her deaths weren't pointless, the way she was almost proud of them. The city had gotten to her. It didn't matter that you came back, a small part of the spirit even thought it was crueler to do so, because you remembered. You remembered the pain, the fear. His stomach roiled and he shuddered as phantom pains of being melted rose up.

They were things no person should ever have to go through. And definitely not a child.

And he had sworn that, if he did anything this messed up day in this hellhole, he was going to protect these kids, and make sure they got to stay as innocent as they could. It was the best he could do...

When the young girl reached the end of the street and dropped to her knees, Jack shook his head sadly. He gestured at the others to follow, and started to walk after Yoshika. When he got a short distance away, he gestured for them to wait there and walked the rest of the distance to the girl. He was quiet for a moment. "You know, I don't think it's pointless that you saved people. I actually think it's brave. But kiddo, you shouldn't have to do that. It shouldn't be up to you to do it, or any child. You're young, so you don't understand it yet. But, being a kid is special." He ran a hand through his hair, glancing around with a frown. "And this place, doing those things, takes that away too soon. Look, if you're right about the pages, you've already helped. Come with us, be safe."

Lucas knew he could easily leave if he wanted to. But he decided to stay because he realized that it would be just as bad for Jack if he died as Claus's death was for him. But Yoshika running away was not acceptable. If she had 4 pages so far then throwing herself into more dangerous situations would eventually result in her death and loss of those pages.

Following after her quickly, forget about Jack can't let her take those alone and undo her work in collecting them... She had collapsed to her knees? Either she had some damage that was really well hidden or the stress was getting to her. He caught up with her about the same time as Jack.

After Jack spoke, Lucas offered his own opinion "If dying doesn't m-matter, then why does saving everyone m-matter to you. I can understand the feeling of wanting to save people, I have saved people, b-but dying hurts. It t-takes a toll on you and on others. My m-mother and my b-brother... are d-dead. And they both sacrificed themselves for me. So d-don't talk about death like you have objectively f-flawless arguments, everyone has their own perspective on this. I decided to stay with Jack because I realized that he'd take it as a personal failure, and I couldn't do that to s-someone else! Just stay with our group, you've done your job."

Hobbes

"Yeah, dying is not exactly my favorite thing to do in this city. But if those pages you're talking about can really help us out, maybe we could walk around and find more people to help us. That way, we could have a group looking for the pages and a group keeping the kids safe." Hobbes preached splitting up again. Of course, he said this, knowing that Calvin, if Hobbes found him, would never consent to being left behind with the kids. Although Hobbes didn't think of Calvin as a kid, so much as he was a destructive force of nature.

Yoshika, with Others, Realizations of Bad Parenting
The short walk Yoshika had wasn't stopped by her realizing she had just admitted her own impending death. That was something she was used to. No, it happened when she realized there was a reason she couldn't comprehend everyone else's viewpoints on the matter. All of her world, no matter what she wanted to believe, was built around the ideals of the very person she was trying to defy, and at the same time, please.

Seiga Kaku.

She understood the idea of wanting to help others, but that someone shouldn't try and help at all expenses? The idea of children being in need of special care from more capable people? That ultimately, she was a kid who bit off more than she could chew?

Yoshika was stopped on the ground, tightly clutching at her hat as she stared down at the pavement, lightly shaking as she tried to stop sobbing. Even as Jack and Lucas came there to look at her as she acted so weakly, she was realizing that she could be weak without anyone chastising her for it.

It took her a little bit to collect herself, but when she did, her voice was quiet. "I'm stupid. I...wanted to do this to prove myself to someone specific. I needed to do it today...because I won't have another chance. Lucas...remember how I was when we first met? Vapid? Blankly smiling at everything? That's how I normally am."

She slowly turned her head to Lucas, one tired and reddened eye peeking out from behind her messy hair. "I'm normally dead. Tomorrow, I'll be back to that, and I won't be able to think like a person. This was my one chance to do something as a living person. Don't act like you know everything about it, either."

No Running!

It was clear that Seiga was at a complete loss over the behavior of this onryo. "Maybe the behavior is different because of the Author's meddling," Plague Knight suggested. "Every storyteller has a tendency to embellish, and the Author is probably doing the same with this spirit as well to make her particularly dangerous."

Seiga then suggested killing the thing. "Um, how?" the alchemist asked his fellow. "We do not have weapons suitable for the task. Even the ghosts in my world, while momentarily tangible, can only be permanently dispatched using powerful artifacts - "

He suddenly felt a cold, damp hand on his shoulder. He froze. He knew exactly who was behind him.

"Madam......is it entirely possible to discuss things like rational beings? Please?" the knight asked. He was slowly positioning his staff to possibly stab the onryo in the face with the bottom end of his in case diplomacy failed.

Balloon Cart

All of a sudden Lucas could understand. Yoshika was normally akin to a walking corpse from some sort of magic or something else that was taken away today. She was given one day to do this, and she was spending it for someone else's sake. She literally couldn't understand why anyone wouldn't help her. Though it seemed like the realization was starting to hit her, possibly.

She needed help, not in her search but with her. Lucas said to Yoshika "Y-Your right, I don't understand. I did know s-someone who should h-have been d-dead but w-was brought back, and I can say it was awful to f-face him again. I can't even b-begin to imagine how I would've h-have felt if it was me. When he finally got t-to make a choice like a n-normal person... I d-don't want to d-discuss. But that isn't s-similar to this s-situation. So... I take it y-you d-don't want to search anymore? M-Maybe it w-would be b-better if you spent y-your remaining time t-today t-talking with us? If this is all the t-time you have, ever, you shouldn't spend it for s-someone else, at least."

Judging by how Seiga and Yoshika were friends or something, he wasn't really sure what their deal was, he assumed that the one she was doing this for was Seiga. Maybe he should try talking to her tomorrow, and try to figure out what was up with this strange case of a Hermit and their living corpse.

Forrest Gump, Balloon Cart

I listened to Yoshika talk 'bout her plight for far longer than I should've. It seems she ain't usually like this. She's usually stupid and smilin' at things. In a sense, Yoshika was like me. She wants to do somethin' good for a change.

One of the kids felt sorry for her, and asked if she wanted to talk about her story to pass the time. He even mentioned someone close to him comin' back. I forgot most of what the kid said, but he really didn't like to talk 'bout it longer than he should've.

I spoke up and replied to the both of them. "Sorry to hear that. I wish there's a way I could, um, help out."

Near the balloon cart

Tommy and Seirwuosuhr cowered away from Yoshika when she got confrontational, looking just uncertain and upset until Jack intervened. As the argument went on, they said nothing, and followed Jack until he told them to stay put, which they did.

"I don't get what's going on" Tommy muttered sadly.

"I don't either" Seirwuosuhr muttered in sad agreement, "I just wanna go home..."

Radio station, time's up

The door finally came down with a crash, and Leatherface stepped into the room, raising his chainsaw up at the ready again and revving it loudly. After a quick glance at the four people in the room, Leatherface strode directly towards Morty, preparing to make a wide sweep towards the boy.

Pool, not very talkative

There was no verbal response, just a low, quiet breathy noise, and the hand's grip on Plague Knight's shoulder tightened a bit more.

However, there was then a different voice, calling out from the entrance of the building. "Hey! Anyone alive in there?!" Any of the three who had met Nails of the militia might recognize the voice as his.

Viola I Pool I Desperate? Yep

I could barely believe what Seiga is suggesting.... but given what we're facing right now, it;s understandable. Here lies the monster that she claimed would follow its users relentlessly till death and, now that she's been marked, that there was no way around that. I let go of her hand.

"Not that I don't understand your predicament, Seiga, but you might as well suggest me to commit suicide. If I do have a weapon with me, then maybe," At times like this, I really do wish I had my knife with me. Alas.

But it seems that the Author has had another plan in store for us. Instead of jumping after her, the girl went back into the waters, disappearing from sight. At this, I suddenly sense a very bad premonition and am already on guard.

It was when the doctor's voice speak out that I was curious to know what he's talking about. We're worried about that one ghost girl who just disappeared an- Wait, did he just say madam?

Well, that solves one dilemma of where she is at. And what luck, it appears that others are here too.

There might be a chance that what I'm about to do will get me targeted and possibly maimed/killed by the ghost, or maybe the one who arrives here might not be here for aid... but with how everything is progressing right now, it's a chance that I'm willing to take.

Plus, I briefly recognized that voice from the spaceship, so it must be one of the militia.

"Yes! We need help right here!" I shouted back, bracing myself for the possibility of getting myself killed before full-on running away from the ghost and, if it's not obstructing the path there, towards the entrance itself.

On the off-chance that I do get myself pointlessly killed, I only wish for it to be a quick and painless death.

Seiga, Poolhouse, How Can She Be So Cruelhouse
The idea of killing a ghost by stabbing it was, admittedly, a long shot. However, they already come in all colors, and if there's anything her stay in the City has taught her, many of those colors bleed! Seiga was once again reconsidering the idea of dying for funsies, but that was hardly the kind of attitude she should be taking towards this.

Both of the two expressed their displeasure with the idea as well, and she said "Ah, fine, fine. Never hurts to ask."

Though, the alchemist's next question was kind of odd. Seiga turned to say "What do you-" but was stopped by the sight of an extra hand resting on his tiny shoulder. Of course, this was hardly unexpected, but still not optimal. Seiga pursed her lips in disappointment.

Then, aid arrived! Someone unwittingly willing to be bait! As soon as Ellen shouted and ran, Seiga did the same, still brandishing the hairpin in her hand like a dagger and ready to try out stabbing as an option if it came for her. She tried to put herself in between the onryo and Ellen, which considering the latter's height was pretty easy on paper.

Yoshika, with Others, Retire
"But...I don't think I did enough. There's so much more to do..."

It was as Jack had said, this was pointless. Everything she could do right now was going to be undone with sun-up tomorrow, as much as Yoshika wanted to deny it. She wouldn't get the chance again, but truthfully, she never had the chance to save everyone in the first place.

Maybe, she really could just let herself be selfish and not work for others. That was something she couldn't ever admit out loud, but...if this really was going to be her last chance before she became a servant once again, she would take it.

Yoshika was lost in thought for a minute there as everyone crowded around her, and she eventually responded by ponderously shaking her head. With weak and entirely human legs, she stood up and looked down at Lucas. She remembered, back a night or two ago, how she enjoyed the idea of being tired. Now, looking the part, she was finally realizing just how tired every part of her body felt.

"I'm not going to look anymore. You guys...I'll follow you. Just take me somewhere safe."

Radio Station

The screech of chainsaw against door only marginally edged out against Morty's battered lungs mustering one more breath of air for a good old fashioned primal scream of terror. Things weren't helped moments later as the saggy-faced figure, wielding his weapon of choice over his head like a demented lumberjack from the gates of hell, strode through the door, crossed the floor in a few steps, and swung his chainsaw in Morty's direction.

"Oh, so it's a *urp* meeting you want?" roared Rick as he swung the chair over his head in the general direction of Leatherface, the piece of furniture swinging down through the air in a perfect 10th-grade physics-book arc. "Then let me chair it!"

"Wait, what? Why do you keep yelling about girlfriends?" Curly said as Rick shoved his grandson's hand in hers and taunted the the monster, though it obviously was working. Moments later he was in, and coming straight for Morty.

Outside

Well, Jack was happy he'd left Tommy and See back a bit, since things here had gotten really depressing really quickly. Listening to Lucas, a pang hit his heart as the memory of his sister in a life long gone rose up. The look on her face as he had fallen into the ice. Had... had she felt like that, after he'd given his life to save her, even accidentally? And that the kid had to go through that, no matter how many times he'd seen or heard it, was still saddening

Then Yoshika started to explain herself, why she was trying so hard, and the former spirit started to feel cold. He didn't entirely understand what she meant, but the feeling he was getting from it was bad. The talk about dying and coming back made him feel a bit uncomfortable, memories of his previous realization a few days back coming to mind, before he forced it down. There were more important things to focus on. Like safety, and finding out just what the young girl meant.

Kneeling slightly as the girl stood, Jack put himself face to face with her as he put a hand on her shoulder. He tried to smile, but the gnawing feeling in his gut made his brows furrow. "Don't worry, you did good, kiddo. We'll make sure you're safe. But... what do you mean, tomorrow you won't be able to think like a person?"

Yoshika, Balloon Cart, Mom's Gonna Freak
"...I'm undead. I am what is called a ji..."

She hesitated still to call herself that, but she knew there wasn't any point in denying the inevitable. Give it a few hours, and she'd only barely recollect the idea of being human, so her own labels didn't matter.

"...I'm a jiangshi," she quietly admitted. "A corpse raised by magic, to work for the living. I won't think because my brain decayed into uselessness a long time ago. I could barely remember anything, like my past, or even my name sometimes...and it's hard to think when you're controlled by-"

Her eyes widened for a brief moment before she sealed her lips tight, stopping abruptly in mid-sentence. If Seiga ever found out that she was speaking about what she is so freely, that would be bad by itself. But if she dared to utter a single word about her like that...even if she was back under her control, she didn't want to think about how horrible it would be.

Darting around the street, her eyes were much more alert all of a sudden as she tried to think of something to excuse that. Something that wouldn't point in the direction of her master. "...I'm controlled by...hunger..."

...No, this obviously wasn't going to convince anyone. The moment she let that emotion show, she was as good as dead. He's been around her before, and he seems aware and alert...so, even if it was just repeating something he surely figured out, it wouldn't do any more harm than had already been done.

Without any emotion, fear or passion, Yoshika said "The one who controls me is named Seiga Kaku."

Like Standing on a Land Mine

Mere tightening of grip. Not a good sign, but not necessarily a bad one. Plague Knight at this point followed the advice he gave minions he used to test out bombs of his invention that can be buried underground and triggered by stepping on top of them: Stay perfectly still. He did not even there to turn his head, or move after setting his staff to strike behind him in case.

Suddenly, someone called out to the group. Viola responded to them, and he heard footsteps as, presumably, she and Seiga both ran for the building entrance. The alchemist merely stood stark still, waiting for the onryo to make the first move.....

Outside - An undead child is still a child. I think.

She was... undead? A few days ago that would have sounded absurd. But after that day, and questions about himself, it didn't sound so crazy. Something about jiangshi was familiar, but that was probably the least important part of what the girl had said.

This young girl, still a child, was being controlled. Every part of what Yoshika said made the Guardian sick. Sick, and angry. Just her condition was bad enough, her brain... decayed. But the rest of it. His hands shook at the thought.

He easily noticed the obvious pause, and then the attempt at a lie. He'd seen others act like that before, and reading between the lines was obvious. She was terrified. Scared of what might happen to her, should who she was talking about found out. Regardless, he had a name. He remembered a women who had been with the young girl at the library. Jack had a good idea of who she now was. Seiga Kaku. Taking a deep breath, the Guardian schooled his expression. "And how does-" He couldn't keep all of the venom out of his voice as he spoke the next word, "Seiga control you? How did she get, get control of you?"

He paused for a moment after that, then locked eyes with the girl; A look in his eyes that made it clear he pretty much already knew the answer to his question. "And if she finds out you told us, what will she do?"

Jack was going to do anything he could for Yoshika. He swore it to himself. But, he wasn't going to do anything that might make things worse at the hands of the monster controlling her.

Pool

"Shit, alright we're coming in!" Nails yelled from the entrance, and a few sets of hurried footsteps echoed into the room.

Viola and Seiga turning to run towards the exit meant they would have to run past Plague Knight; thus, they basically couldn't help but see the ghost girl standing just behind him, even if it was just in their peripheral vision. And she didn't seem to like that very much, turning her head towards them and starting to screech angrily; she took a couple menacing steps forward to intercept them, her joints still popping loudly, thus prompting Seiga's reaction of trying to stab her with the hair pin.

And stab her Seiga did, the pin digging into the flesh and the ghost's body reacting to the momentum of the impact. But unfortunately, that seemed to be all it did; no blood seeped from the wound, and the ghost girl didn't flinch in pain or really react at all. All she did instead was grab at Seiga's chest right where her heart was, stopping Seiga in her tracks with an unexpectedly strong grip. Her grip squeezed tighter, just starting to break Seiga's skin and make her bleed, when one of the footsteps got to the room quicker than the others.

"FREEDOM FOR EMBERLIGHT!" Fastanook cried out, reacting immediately as he saw the situation and launching himself at the ghost girl. Both of his feet slammed into her side, forcing her to suddenly let go of Seiga as she staggered to the side and fell back into the pool with a dirty splash.

"Come on, this way!" Nails said hastily as he reached the doorway to the pool room, motioning for them to follow.

"Hah hah!" Fastanook celebrated, raising a fist into the air and turning to leave with the others, before suddenly falling on his face with a, "GHAK!" as the ghost's hand yanked on his ankle from the pool.

One last person had arrived just behind Nails; some guy who had a beanie on with the Fanboy's logo on it. "Do you have its page?" the Fanboy asked, trying to look past Nails to get a view of the action.

Radio station

Leatherface staggered as the swivel chair hit him, the chair snapping right where the stand connected to the seat in the process. This sudden interruption allowed Curly and Morty to make their escape, but now Leatherface turned his attention on Rick.

Spinning the chainsaw up some more, Leatherface stepped forward, started a feint of another wide sweep, before suddenly taking another step forward and instead stabbing the chainsaw up towards Rick's chin like an extremely overkill uppercut.

Hall of mirrors, more picking up the slack off-screen
Though I suppose, now it's on-screen

"Well that's a death trap" Silvester of the Fanboys commented, looking towards the entrance of the hall of mirrors from well outside of it.

"... But, it's just a little girl" Del'Guk's left head pointed out. "Yeah I could just like, sit on her" his right head added.

"No trust me dude, she'll have bullshit horror monster reality warping stuff. Like your world's magic, but on crack and completely unfair" Silvester explained simply without really explaining much.

"Oh" Del'Guk's left head grumbled before his right head asked, "so then what should we do?"

"You're being weird. Don't you want to come play with me?" Mary asked, sitting at the entrance and doodling on the cobblestones with a piece of chalk.

"First, don't say anything to her, at all. I don't care what she goes on about, if you respond that'll just be inviting a sudden death depending on the topic. Second, well... It'd be best if she was distracted, then we could get in there without having to worry about her as much..." Silvester said, trailing off and glancing around, as if waiting for something.

Both of Del'Guk's heads looked at him and each raised an eyebrow in confusion. "...Uh, what are you doing now?" Del'Guk's left head questioned him, his right head chipping in with, "are you waiting for something?"

"Well, that seemed like a perfect timing moment, but I guess not" Silvester muttered, shrugging. "I guess we better just wait until..." he trailed off again and glanced around, "juuust wait untilll..."

Stepping around a nearby corner came Kelsey, looking around until she spotted the hall of mirrors and Mary, whereupon she charged while screaming at the top of her lungs like a crazed marauder.

Mary, looking a bit surprised but mostly just angry, glanced up and scowled. "AGAIN?! I've already killed you twice you crazy lady!" Mary yelled, getting up to her feet and drawing her palette knife. "How did you even get-" she was cut off as Kelsey slammed down a possibly-fake or possibly-taxidermied horse from the merry go round right onto Mary's head.

"Alright, that would be our cue. Follow me big guy!" Silvester announced with a grin, and ran past the ensuing scuffle into the hall of mirrors, with the two headed ogre close behind him.

We Had To Do Something?

Seiga stabbing the onryo allowed Plague Knight to actually move, pulling away from the ghost girl. He was about to stab the spirit in the head when Fastanook literally drop kick the malevolent spirit away from them. He ran towards Nails, helping along Seiga if she needed, and was prepared to leave the building......

"Wait, page? What do you - ?" Plague Knight was about to ask, but then another, more disturbing thought came to him. "We actually have a specific task to do today?! Seriously???" he angrily said, his patience for this day growing paper thin.

Lewis - Radio Station - Mic (Stand) Drop

It was inside now.

My hands tightened around the mic stand, a feeling of intensity like an invisible amp reverberating through my heart, and I thought the word adrenaline. Strange. I'd had the same feelings in death a handful of times. Why would...oh, not now with this. Right now was a time for trying to cheat death, not ponder it!

My mind began racing for a decision. I was armed. It was armed. That wire had done nothing (go figure). The people with pages needed to not die. Morty had a page. Rick had a page. Rick had a chair. Rick just threw the chair. The chair slowed it down. I had an opening. I had an opening!

I darted to one side of it as Curly and Morty made their escape, minding both my stepnote  and the chainsaw, and upon the masked killer rebounding to try and saw in half the only remaining person in the room besides me swung the mic stand vertically into its side, putting my weight into it for extra measure. If it worked, the hellspawn would be distracted yet again, enough for the gadgeteer and myself to make a break for it; with a not-insignificant amount of luck, perhaps, it might even be disarmed or have its skin-mask displaced. Or maybe I would just die, considering how much death-related foreshadowing I had going for me anyway, but at least I was trying.

Viola I Pool I Oh, so That's What They Are For

So it really was help that was coming. That's good to know. Smiling victoriously, I turned around and wait why is she bleeding?

Oh. So the ghost got to her instead.

"Seiga!" I instinctively yelled out as I tried to help her up after one of the militia threw himself to the path of the ghost, alongside the doctor as he did the same. No wonder I haven't felt anything behind me despite being in the path of the lady.

"Can you still walk?" I asked her as I wasted no time at all in trying to follow the militia's orders to get away, preparing to assist her to do that if she requires me. Leave the ghost behind for the militia to handle.

It was then that the one among the group asked about something very peculiar.

"Pages? No, I-" I haven't seen them before, just like Plague Knight... but now that I think about it, I did. Reaching out into my pockets, I took out that one page that I did have, where the crude drawing of a rampaging monster that I first met was on it.

Suddenly, everything clicked. It all makes sense on what we're supposed to do.

"You mean, something like this?" I showed them the said page. "It's the page of the monster that I've first met. Sadly, it isn't the one with the spirit girl."

So you're telling me the people here will have to re-visit all the monsters they've encountered and gather all of their pages, for today's challenge? Unbeknownst to me, I groaned at this revelation, same as the doctor who's more openly displaying his annoyance at the challenge.

Lucas listened to Yoshika carefully. As he listened, his face progressively contorted into some combination of anger and sadness. Yoshika should have been dead, but instead, she was brought back for the sole purpose of serving. This wasn't something he could ever condone. The dead are better off dead if this is the alternative.

Seiga would pay for this. There was no way that Lucas would let someone go for destroying someone's free will. Just by the way Yoshika was acting today, it was obvious that even her personality was gone. Her whole being was to serve. Disgusting.

He turned to Yoshika. He said "If y-you won't be able to tell us tomorrow then, please... tell us n-now... Before you c-can't. What d-do you want us to do about this? I'll h-help you, no matter w-what... because I can't accept this."

After a few moments of deliberation, Lucas decided to explain why. "My b-brother... three y-years ago was when C-Claus d-died. What he... What Porky did to him... he wasn't Claus anymore... all that w-was l-left was his body. His h-heart... h-his soul... it was r-removed. He w-was Porky's toy, his monster. And a f-few d-days ago... I fought C-Claus... h-he was going to k-kill me. I... I don't... a miracle h-happened. He g-got his mind back... he got his choice back... and k-killed himself before the m-moment passed. So know this, I won't let anyone get away with something like this."

It was obvious that Jack was having similar thoughts on the matter, both by his previously displayed behavior and his questions. Lucas told him "I know w-what you w-want to d-do. I j-just want you to know that...I'll help."

Seiga, Pool Party, Bothered by Ghosts
The last thing she expected her enemy to be was corporeal! This wasn't even a ghost, let alone an onryo! Thought it didn't seem to mind being stabbed that much, this would be easier to deal with than killing a jiangshi. The writer was a fool if he thought this was going to be an issue!

The issue is, Seiga really did mind its attempt at boring through her breast into her heart, which put a damper on her brief bout of bravado. She tried to stab at the arm grasping at her, which didn't matter much because some small furred thing jumped out and kicked it away. Seiga decided to run away from the vicinity, ignoring her savior's imminent death and lightly batting at PK's hand as he tried to help her out. No, no matter how much she's bleeding, she's fine, thank you.

She stopped with as much disbelief as the rest of her party at the idea they had to do something today. "I was wondering about that..." she said as she grimaced in pain, clutching at her chest. Regardless, she wasn't going to dwell on it for too long, and followed Nails' direction to leave.

Yoshika, Pity Party, Bothered by Hermits
It was tough enough just to get it out, but they wanted her to say more. Yoshika could see they were startled, furious at Seiga for this...and now, if she said anything, she'd be signing her master's death warrant as much as her own. These people were already fighters, and she knew that they'd exact revenge in her place...

Her mouth moved but nothing came out, as she repeatedly tried to say it herself. Only by looking away from their faces could she finally start talking. "I don't know what I could do to fix this, but ...I don't want you to k-kill her. I don't want anyone to get hurt for this. Seiga..."

Another pause, and she sighed. "Seiga does it by magic. I don't know exactly how...but I'm not sure I want her to stop. If she stops doing what she's doing, I think I'll die again...and I don't want that."

She looked Lucas in the eye again. "I don't mean it bad...but, I'm not going to be like your brother. I want to live for as long as I can." Yoshika knew she had died before, but the idea of going back and never returning was why she feared Seiga so much. Even if she figured Seiga wasn't as powerful as she thought, she knew she could simply stop her existence if she wished.

As for Jack's last question, she stared at him for a moment, trying to come up with something to say...but, she couldn't come up with the courage to say what exactly she thought would happen. "I don't know..."
