Library - Passing On an Opportunity
Zelda sighed and frowned in response to Miss Tairee.
"I suppose you're right," she said, "But I just can't see myself making any real progress today, when everyone out there seems to be focused on surviving. And...I wouldn't want to burden anyone else with looking after me, if they have things they need to do themselves."
She might had gone back to researching, but then Ben got a phone call. She wasn't quite sure what was going on, but she heard something about the Ruckus setting a trap at the balconies, and something about a "hero group" being in danger. In any event, it didn't look like anything she'd be able to help with. However, she did look thoughtful for a moment or two about something, before quickly grimacing. Whatever it was she had been pondering clearly wasn't something she was happy to have considered.
"Good luck," she said to Ben and the people with him before she went back to her research.
Several things happened at the library. Starting with Rick dropping in. Literally.
Ben then brought up a 'Hero group' and transformed into a flying alien. He then picked up two volunteers and left.
Twilight wasn't about to let some trouble pass by while she did nothing, and she didn't need a lift.
"Wait for me!"
She spread her wings and flew up after Ben and the others.
Lucas was still crying when he heard the inquiry into his current mental state. As he turned around Lucas said with a soft and wavering voice "I'm fine. I... I just... i just need a ...". Lucas noticed something quite unusual about this stranger: he was a complete stranger. He thought that the only ones on the new world the dragon created would be nowhere islands residents. So he was either wrong about that or this was an out-of-uniform pigmask. Not that anyone really knew what was going to happen when the world was remade but he thought the idea of creating a bunch of fully grown people unlikely.
Though he preferred to be silent or monosyllabic, due to the unknown aspect here Lucas decided to tread lightly and answer his question regarding his injuries or lack there of "I'm not hurt or anything, but who are you?". It seemed that even with the stammering under control he couldn't steady his voice. Lucas wasn't going to jump at the chance of a fight right now but he still made sure he could access his bat if need be.

Submarine - A call to arms
Phil's comment about being told to let Cole free prompted Curly to roll her eyes, but she decided to ignore it as the sub headed for a place to let the civilians out.
"Let me get this straight, the people you guys caused this mess to try and stop are planning to sacrifice a bunch of would be heroes to a demon" she said in the direction of Sans, Cole and Carol before turning to the militia "and you'really gonna drive straight there?"
Curly pulled her machine gun out, but made a point of keeping it pointed at the floor "that sounds way more important than heading to the library, count me in!"

Sophie nodded at Rex when he asked for a distraction. "I'm fast; if the gun rotates slowly enough, I can outrun it and draw its attention."
Just then, beeping sounds began emanating from the teen. The lilac-haired girl tilted her head again, her eyes focused in Rex's general direction. "Is that... a communicator?"
As expected, Ben headed straight away to his meeting place after receiving the warning. He had also said something about a prison. The way he spoke indicated that there wasn't one yet, but there was about to be. With how this place worked, that could only mean that was the reward for a challenge. She would gladly work towards that goal later, sh couldn't dwell on that right now. There was something far pressing going on.
The militia duo had gotten the warning as well and were going to there. However, they going to stop somewhere to drop off everyone else. They even were to release Cole and the other guy.
Everyone had others plans though. Cole offered to track Ruckus down, which would really help. Sans was calling more back up. She couldn't help blushing and smiling sheepishly at him saying about her getting into trouble.
After Curly accurately summed up the situation and offered her help as well, she said, "That sounds about right. And we definitely have to stop it. I saw that thing's horrible handywork firsthand. I'm not about to let that happen again."
Then turning to the militia member still with them, her look a mixture of determined and imploring she said, "Please let us help you. Our friend is directly involved in what is about to happen. Then there what Sans said. I can't just walk away when I know that is about to go on. You could place us temporaly under your direct command. At least in my case, I'm in the military too and know how to follow orders, specially in such a situation. We and your group worked together to hold the library two days ago. We can make it work again."

Nails glanced back as the lot of them in the sub decided to stay on board, (barring possibly Jack Frost and/or Lewis) and let out a quick breath. "Well alright, but know that if you're coming along with us, you're in for a fight. We can't guarantee your safety" Nails said to them.
"What he means is, don't blame us if you get hurt or killed! Now Nails, get that hatch closed so I can put the pedal to the metal!" Phil hollered back from the pilot seat. Nails did just that, (after letting Jack Frost and/or Lewis get off if they weren't going to stay on board after all) and not a moment later the sub lurched again as Phil got the speed up as high as he could, leaving a small wake behind them. "Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seatbelts and put up your lunch trays" the angry militia member said jokingly, as the submarine had neither of those things, "and be sure to keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle until you see demon worshiping scumbags to kill."
Nails meanwhile, moved back over to just behind Phil's seat and got on his walkie talkie. "Nails and Phil here, we're on our way. Some of our passengers decided to stick with us to help, including the blue hoodie skeleton, the dragon tamer, and the mind reader" Nails reported into it.
"We have two other teams on the way, plus Rachel already there" Wells' voice responded.
"Fastanook here-" a distinctly weedy, probably not human voice chimed in, and was slightly cut off by the distant booming of a cannon shot. "A pirate ship just spotted us and we're under attack; we can't get to the balconies right now" his voice continued, sounding rather calm for someone presumably being shot at.
In the background during his last sentence, there was a woman faintly audible screaming, "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!"
"Well, make that one team on the way" Wells' voice corrected himself.
"... Did I just hear what I thought I heard?" Nails muttered to himself, before the walkie talkie piped up again.
"Rachel here, I just spotted Ben on the way here; he's in his flying bug form and he's carrying two other people" Rachel's voice reported in, "should I wave him down?
"Ruckus possibly have eyes on him as well; don't draw attention to yourself just yet" Wells' voice advised her.
Miss Tairee looked at Plague Knight and gave a very slight frown. "I'm not a news service. I think your robot friend left a while ago, but I did not see if he took your things with him or not. And if you really must know, Ruckus are planning to sacrifice everyone at the hero meetup Ben is throwing; Ben just found out about that, so it's what he just left for" Miss Tairee explained to Plague Knight.
Miss Tairee then looked at Zelda and gave a slight sigh. "Very well miss, then one last possibility. I could give you a weapon so you can at least attempt to defend yourself. Though as it stands you sound rather determined to convince yourself to stay here; which of course is your decision" Miss Tairee said to Zelda. Then after a moment of thought idly added, "as long as you obey the library's rules, of course."
Outside, a rowboat was coming up to dock at the library, holding a small gaggle of various civilians in it.
"I'm Thomas" the boy introduced himself, bringing one hand up in front of his chest and giving a small bow of his head in greeting. "What are you crying about? Maybe... Do you miss your parents?" Thomas asked in a concerned, gentle tone.
Then his eyebrows went up just a little as he seemed to think of something else. "Wait... Maybe you're new here? I only got here myself a couple days ago" Thomas said, which of course probably didn't make much sense to Lucas, all things considered.
He didn't notice the small speck in the sky behind him, starting to become clear as a large, alien bug carrying two human figures.

Underwater Tunnel — Drama Alert
When Rex explained that Ghostfreak had escaped from the Omnitrix, Garrett non-chalantly expressed his disaproval of Ben having such a complex and dangerous weapon since he was only ten.
"Give him a break, the thing's attached to him. But you are right, we can only deal with one thing at a time"
The thief proceeded to describe the cannon. It was slow and one could easily keep themselves out its line of sight. Sophie offered herself as a distraction but Rex didn't feel comfortable purposefuly putting a young girl in danger. That sentence will never become ironic, no sir.
"Let's not run unnecessary risks, ok? I can take a bullet if it comes down to it"
Rex went to the door and created one of his giant fists, ready to take it down.
"Now, let's get to work"
As soon as Rex said that, he heard a beeping noise of his communicator. Someone was calling him and he hoped it didn't have to do with the Ruckus. In hindsight, he should have skipped the waffles and gone straight to dealing with the cult.
"...right after I take this call" he pressed the communicator to answer the call "Hello?"
As the submarine sped up, the sudden movement made Sans lose his balance and faceplant on the floor with one arm raised up holding his phone so at least that one was safe. He lifted his face from the ground so that he could talk to Rex, looking unfazed by what had just happened.
"heya rex, how's your search for the ruckus going? 'cause i just found out that they're gonna try to kidnap people at the balconies," he said.
Cole watched as the hatch of the sub closed up again, looking as soon as it did as though he deeply regretted his decision, but just taking a deep breath, starting to rock himself again, tilting his head from side to side before just kind of hunching over where he sat, murmuring under his breath in low, unfamiliar voices again. He flinched slightly when Sans fell, looking at him with some degree of concern, before looking forward to the militiamen, wincing slightly and looking around again before sort of scooting forward a bit, just a little closer.
"I-if...th-th-their voices...th-their voices a-are more...m-m-more that way..." he managed to get out, pointing slightly to the right. "Th-the-the R-Ruckus...voices...if...if th-that helps..."
"Trust me, yesterday is the first day nothing tried to kill me. You get me there and I'll worry about staying in one piece" Curly said confidently as the milita men warned them they couldn't guarantee their safety.
Underwater Tunnel — Backtracking
Turns out Sans was calling "Oh, it's you" Rex wondered what the skeleton wanted right now and, in turn, he asked him if he had done anything to stop the Ruckus.
"Well I actually was about to..." Sans revealed that the group was planning on kidnapping people in the balconies "Oh really? That kinda changes things, then. I'll be there as fast as I can"
Rex ended the call and adressed Sophie and Garrett while walking towards the elevator.
"Change of plans, guys. We need to go back to the surface. The Ruckus are trying to kidnap people in the balconies"

Docking Structure ==> Submarine ==> Surface
Jack glanced at Lewis and shot the skeleton a shaky grin. "Yeah, of course. Why wouldn't I be."
After a minute of indecision, Jack took a deep breath and strode into the submarine. Positioning himself in a corner away from most others, he was able to stop straining so hard to keep his powers in check. Almost instantly the temperature inside the sub dropped, and ice froze over the area surrounding the spirit. Jack just chuckled awkwardly and focused on the wall, trying his best not to freak out. It didn't stop him, however, from overhearing the conversations going on inside of it. Particularly those of the people he already knew. He stored some of it away, including that Cole could read memories or minds or something like that. He even did voices, which was kind of freaky.
Then everything exploded when Cole found out that some group called Ruckus was going to attack a group of people, and that the young kid, Ben, was involved. Almost as if it was timed perfectly, they reached the surface. The hatch opened up to reveal sky and a horizon, and Jack let out an explosive sigh of relief and visibly sagged. Still, he didn't have time to relax just yet. Something was happening, and Jack had to find out what and where. Nodding to the others that chose to stay in the sub, Jack called the wind to him. "Stay safe. And I guess I'll see you there."
And with a relieved laugh, the spirit was up and away in an instant. He took a moment just to twist and dance, once again free and far from the water. Finally relenting, Jack zeroed in on the balconies and shot towards the nearest one; though he did take the time to take in the strange set up of the city for the day. Keeping his eyes open, he started to watch for anything suspicious.
While they were still stopped, Jack almost immediately flied off to head for the balconies. Caro could only manage to briefly wave him off before he was gone.
Fortunately, the militia duo was easy to agree to let the rest of them to help, though they did warn them that they were putting themselves at risk and the two of them couldn't be held responsible for anything that happened. She fully understood that, but had time to reply before they speeded off and she to hold for balance, barely keeping herself from falling down.
Sans had fallen while making his call, so carefully moved over and tried to reach with a hand to help him up.
Meanwhile, the militia's radio was going off, with reports about the situation regarding the balconies. She tried to pay close attention to it and so, one particular phrase immediately stuck out to her. How could it? She could still remember clearly, as if it had just happened. That horrific phrase being shouted, by that same voice, as brutal stabs were made and blood pooled everywhere ...
She shuddered and desperately tried to push all that way. But it was impossible. That was simply just all too seared in her memory.
She clenched her free hand into a fist and her tone was clearly incensed was she spoke, "No ... No that again, not her again ... I won't allow her of all people to slaughter anyone else, in any shape or form! I'll stop her if it's the last thing I do."
Rex ended the call before Sans could say anything else. As he had expected, Caro tried to help him get up and he gladly accepted it, however it seemed that she heard something that made her really angry and it looked like she was barely managing to contain it.
"whoa girl, leave the fury for when we get there. if you blow up here we're gonna sink," he joked in order to try to get her to calm down a little.
He then looked at the scarf that he was still in his hands, now that Cole had apparently managed to listen to Papyrus' thoughts from it, it really sounded like the whole funeral thing was actually true. In some way or another maybe Papyrus wasn't truly gone yet and if that was the case, then leaving his scarf in the dimensional box all the time would probably be a disservice for him. After thinking about it for a little bit more, Sans wrapped the scarf around his neck. It felt oddly comforting in a way that he couldn't quite explain.
He took a moment to take a deep breath before looking back at Caro with curiosity. "what's gotten into you all of sudden?"
Jack reassured Lewis that he was doing fine, really, but his grin and the fact that he immediately froze a corner of the submarine upon sitting in it made the statement...unconvincing.
He followed the spirit into the sub, pointing out that "We are underwater," and squeezed next to him. It wasn't like the cold could do much to him.
And then there was Cole with the imitating voices. Yep. Still unsettling. In fact, it seemed like he had dropped something major on his two friends that from the sound of it appeared to involve...the bone bag's bro being murdered? An observer might have seen the frown in the wraith's eyes that fell away with the sudden emergence of a plot to kidnap people at some "hero gathering." The information prompted the two militiamen to immediately dock at the surface, rather than descend as they'd previously intended.
It was rocky, to say the least, and he was pretty sure he'd deformed some area of the walls of the craft. As soon as they docked, Jack bolted out of the sub, clearly thrilled to be out of the cramped space, or perhaps to be no longer submerged in the depths of the ocean, but nonetheless agreeing to meet the rest of this party at the incident.
"Right. I'll catch up with you later!" he yelled to the Guardian as he zoomed off over the big blue.
And, he supposed it was only right that he help out, between knowing what was going on and being able to contribute. That was how duty worked, to his knowledge.
"I'm coming with," he contributed shyly, admitting to himself that he didn't have actual experience with these things. But hey, he decapitated a tree, that had to count for something! "It sounds like the right thing to do. What am I doing..."
He was probably going to regret some part of this, and that part was probably going to be the phantom feeling of motion sickness when the sub sped on its course.
"Over there? I don't see anything" Phil said to Cole as the submarine kept moving along towards one of the balconies.
"They might be in a sub, just under the surface. But, we'll have to wait for them to come up to do anything" Nails said.
"We could ram them" Phil suggested, still watching out ahead as he piloted the submarine. Nails didn't respond vocally, but did frown, even though Phil didn't look to see it.
For the most part the two didn't pay much attention to the conversation of those behind them, until Caro spoke up angrily. "So you heard that? And you've encountered a Khorne berzerker before?" Nails asked, looking back at Caro and Sans.
"Who would go berzerk about corn? Emphatic farmers?" Phil asked, still not looking away from his driving.
"No, not that kind of corn. Kay, aitch, oh, are, en, ee- Khorne. He's basically the god of bloodthirsty fighters, and he's one of the Chaos gods that Ruckus worship" Nails explained, but then looked thoughtful. "Something doesn't make sense though. I thought he said Ruckus was going for the hero meetup at the balcony" the militia member thought out loud, referring to Cole, "but Fastanook said they were under attack somewhere else, away from the balconies; and it's from his end that the scream came. So what gives? Is Ruckus over there, or over here?"

"Right. Can't say I looked forward to wandering these corridors again," Garrett said pushing the button to send the lift back up.
"So you're now going to confront them outside, at the balconies? That changes matters," he continued. "I wouldn't be of much use to you outside. There aren't even any shadows out there. I'm a sneaker, not a fighter." He shook his head. "You're gonna have to do without me. I suppose I'll be heading to the library instead."
Once they arrived topside, he cast a dour look around the horizon. "Any of you see the library? I can't see anything that looks like it. I don't suppose you could fly me there, Rex?"
Lucas noted the guys name but before he could respond with his own Thomas mentioned parents. His crying got a tiny bit harder from the old wound being opened up. And then Thomas mentioned arriving a few days earlier which confused Lucas. If this world was brand-new then that should be literally impossible. Lucas felt there was something he was missing here and decided that he needed a concrete answer. So he asked about this "But the... but the dragon only just awoke. No... No one should be in a world before its created". Sensing that the situation was more complicated than he originally thought he used shield α on himself in case of a skirmish. One could see a shimmer briefly appear around him.

"And he says he's not a shapeshifter," Sylvia grumbled, picking herself out from the ship wreckage just in time to hop onto the library carpet and watch Ben soar away with a few others in arms. "That doesn't look like a fish guy to me. Still, though...'Ruckus,' huh? I'm guessing they're the bad guys?"
"Reckon so!" Wander agreed cheerfully. "Oh! And she's the librarian! Yoohoo!"
"Are you gonna introdu—yeah, you are." Wander was skipping over to the librarian's desk, heedless of any important work she had going on.
"Hello, miz library lady!" he called. "Ooh, look at these li'l brochures! Tell me, you're the instigator of this fine convention, aren't you?"
Sylvia stayed where she was, tapping her foot impatiently. "Gotta sort out some info on this 'Ruckus,' but where to start...?" she murmured. "Maybe Wander'll relay a message to the lady, if he doesn't annoy her to death."

Sans joked about her outburst, probably to get her to cool down and then asked curious about what had caused it. He also put on his brother's scarf. It was a nice gesture, but she couldn't help worrying about getting damaged in the upcoming.
One of the militiamen pretty accurately guessed what had gotten her so angry. However, before giving a response, she paused and took a deep breath. She couldn't got into this in anger. She sought justice, not revenge. She wouldn't sink to Kelsey's level. Killing in rage and getting pleasure from was exactly what that woman did. She would not take that path.
After a while, she finally said, "Yeah, he's right. That's exactly the kind of person I met. That voice is unmistakable. It's burned into my memory ... You see, a few days ago, when the city was divided in layers, after we all got separated, I and two others were searching for everyone, when ran into this little shop in the middle layer. And that was when it happened ..." She shuddered and had to pause for a bit before continuing, "It was already too late when we got her. She and ... Someone else were ... Viciously stabbing several people, for utterly petty reasons ... There was blood everywhere and that woman was shouting that same horrific phrase ... It's not something that I will ever forget, that image, that phrase ..."
She paused once more before turning more towards Sans and adding, "Remember that guy we ran into in the supermarket yesterday? Well, he was involved in that horrid mess too."
It was then mentioned that Kelsey's voice was coming from another place and not from the balconies.
"Yeah, that's strange ... But, maybe, they are in both places and she was part of a trap set up to keep people from getting to the balconies by water, in case anyone figured out about their other trap, like we did," She commented on the matter.
edited 4th Sep '16 10:51:03 AM by JamesShields
Cole was silent as the others discussed Kelsey, rocking himself, but then he spoke up, in his usual softer tone of voice.
"She isn't them...not anymore. But they...what they made her do, what they made her become...it's driven her mad. She is terrified of them, of becoming like them again, but everything has changed inside her, changed her from who she was...nothing makes sense, everything hurts, and...and violence comes far too naturally now."
He rocked himself a little, lowering his head again, voice starting to shake again. "Th-that is why I attacked the man before. What the Ruckus did to people...what they did to her, d-did to me...it hurts you so deeply inside that everything changes. They can be s-so...unpredictable, people...when the wounds go so deep. And th-the weapons their people have...the g-g-guns, the bright lights, runes that explode and destroy so much...I-I didn't want that to happen...I didn't w-want him to have the ch-chance..."
Cole hunkered down a little more, rocking himself a bit harder, arms crossed in a somewhat defensive posture. "I...I'm s-sorry..."
So that's what was going on. For someone like Caro, seeing a scene like that probably really scarred her mind. Sans couldn't help but feel a little bad that he wasn't there if only so he could give her some comfort but thinking about it there probably wasn't much he could do anyway.
Cole then explained what exactly happened to that crazy girl Caro was talking about and considering what Nails had added to the conversation, it definitely would make sense if things were that way. On the other hand that meant there was another problem for them to take care of later.
"so she's not with the ruckus anymore, but her sanity took a hit. can't blame her, really, it only took me one minute under that thing's influence to start hallucinating," he said, lightly tugging at the scarf and looking somewhat sympathetic, "nothing makes any sense anymore and you can't even think straight as you can't even tell friend from foe properly anymore, at least not until the damage is already done and it's too late to do anything about it."
Sans then grabbed the amulet from his pocket and examined it in his hand, looking disappointed.
"our plan started out great, we blew that thing's arm right off before it could even do anything, but because i was so hasty i didn't even think of getting one of these things so i wouldn't fall prey to it's tricks and i almost got you killed." He paused as he then looked back at Caro. "i guess it's hard to blame her for being so messed up after spending entire days under the influence of that thing. if it wasn't for that miracle that saved us, i don't think i would be able to ever forgive myself for dragging you into all of that."

Warehouse — So much for stealth
Garrett didn't feel so sure about going with Rex since he would lose his advantage of hiding in the shadows and he wasn't a fighter so there was little he could do in a straight up battle.
"Works for me, one less person I have to carry. And good idea, no one can hurt you in the library"
Now that he was back on the warehouse, Rex created his wings and looked ready to leave.
"What do you say, Sophie? Are you coming with me?"
Kidnapping people... It had happened to Cheria once - an action borne of a political agenda, Sophie learned after the fact. Though Cheria did free herself, Sophie and the others immediately tracked her down to aid her; she was a friend after all, and friends looked out for each other. It was also the right thing to do for a person in authority, for the people related to them in some way* aka Sophie herself... and for a person in general.
It would be little wonder that Sophie nodded to Rex, a bit of determination visible on her face as she pumped her arms◊* Cheria did that sometimes when she was focused on something, so Sophie thought she should do it too. She lowered her arms soon after when Rex generated what appeared to be plane wings and jet engines from his body. "...You can fly, Rex?" she asked the teen with genuine curiosity.
