The Library, east side interior.

...I don't know about this. It was clear from Sophie's now-worried expression that she had no idea what to do to help Cole with... whatever was happening to him. What would Cheria do?... What would Asbel do?... What would the Captain...

The lilac-haired girl looked around, and spotted a nearby pair of militiamen who were propping up some of the sofas so they could stand on them and fire through some openings in the barricades. She hurried over to one of them and tugged on his sleeve to get his attention. "Cole needs help," she said straightaway, pointing at the writhing Cole. "Could you bring him up to the second floor?" She paused, as if forgetting to say something. "Please?"

Juri, Library

Juri was annoyed that Viola and Seiga had up and dumped her, and decided instead to head over to the East Side and observe the soldiers as they pulled civilians inside the Library. Juri had decided to sit on a bookcase while watching out for any zombies showing up on this end of the Library.

Karkat - Library (North)

Karkat watched the people come in and immediately got to work. He sprinted at pairs of civilians and zombies and took out the latter with a swift strike of his sickle, then making his way towards another. After Caro used her magic to nail the zombies down, he started going for those too, always making sure the stupid things weren't getting too close to the barricades. He just had to make sure no one shot him. That would suck.

Balcony- Winter Is Coming

The sound was horrifying. The groans and screams, ranging from in-human too far too human, hit him with an almost physical force. And the smell. Dead, rotting flesh under a hot sun. A putrid, sickly smell that was enough to make him gag, and his eyes water.

He was terrified.

It was one thing, seeing them from a distance. But up close, it was by far the worst thing Jack had ever experienced. Even the times he'd spent around wars did not equal it. Hundreds, even thousands, of eyes trained on him as he stood alone between them and who knows how many helpless people.

With a shout of defiance, Jack raised Twinetender into the air with both hands. Power flowed through him, the icy chill of Winter that ran through his veins and made him who he was, filled him to almost overflowing. Then he brought it down against the floor. This wasn't the finesse of guiding a blizzard, or the delicate detail of an ice sculpture. This was the sheer power and rage of Winter at its wildest. From the point of impact, a wave of ice and wind exploded outwards. The sheer sudden force of the freezing air against the hot surrounding air kicking up wild flurries that howled around the winter spirit. Ever-spreading patterns of ice shot out, covering the balcony in an icy surface.

Panting, Jack took a moment to catch his breath. He knew the ice wouldn't last long, but hopefully it would be enough to make getting up and off the balcony harder. Zombies didn't seem coordinated on normal ground, let alone a slick icy surface.

The winter spirit would wait till the first zombies got close enough to the edge of the balcony, and then begin sweeping his staff around to create sharp icicles off the edge of the balcony to try and impale the zombies, or at the very least slow them down.

Gon, heading to the west side (of the library)

"Cover me!" Gon made a mad dash for the west side after he previously approached Ms. Tairee's desk.

He shouldered the shotgun and took aim at the very, very big zombie there before he fired the dual barrels.

Garrett had decided to hide along with the others on the upper floor. He couldn't help much against the zombies — especially since he had limited amounts of equipment — and didn't feel comfortable taking orders from a lawman, anyway.

The Library,
Seiga certainly wished she could've pulled some kind of trick, but knowing that they'd just up and rebound from it in a flash made it less impactful, didn't it? What a double edged sword, this immortality.

"At this point, it won't matter," she said to Viola, shrugging. A little bit more sincerity crept into her voice. "If it was just you, I'd ask you to keep mum...but now, I'd rather you just spread the word that I'm a kind and competent necromancer." She took to the air, dragging Yoshika along as she waved goodbye. "And I do plan on continuing this conversation, so stay alive, Viola!" She looked to her servant and said, "Come, Yoshika. I hope you didn't bother that woman too much." Yoshika looked as if she was going to say something about how she had pretty much left her awkwardly hanging for 5 minutes, but stopped short. "Well, no, I didn't..."

They landed in front of the pile of munitions, where Seiga immediately picked up something for herself: A shotgun, breech-loaded and double barreled. She didn't have much love for firearms, but it wasn't as if she hadn't ever used one before. "Now, your job is heavy lifting," she loudly said to her servant over the small rounds already being fired. "Just grab a load, and we'll be off. I'll shoot whatever comes your way. Simple to remember, right?" Yoshika took multiple boxes of ammunition in her arms. Certainly more than the meager weight she was used to carrying, but nothing she couldn't handle. "Seiga, are you sure these are the right kind of bullets?" The master shrugged. "No idea. They'll figure it out." They began ferrying loads between there and the northern side, where they figured the fire was going to be the most concentrated.

Plague Knight spent most of the time before the zombie attack distributing food and fluids to all the civilians, and then helped in escorting them all to the upper floors when the zombie came to attack. The alchemist immediately rushed over to the South exit and prepared a lob casing of Cascade powder with a spiral looking fuse on it. He tossed the bomb a good distance away the barrier, the bomb stopping in midair, floating within a bubble as a pair of small balls of energy orbited it. As soon as any zombie and/or hostile undead approached, the bomb would home in on them.

Plague Knight then prepared a second bomb but using an impact fuse instead.

He glanced over at Susan. "I believe we may have met very briefly," he said to the governess.

After helping out a few civilians get to shelter in the second floor, Lune decided to check on Caro in the "north" end of the library. Hopefully, nothing bad happened to her when she was out getting food for her friends. Fortunately, she was busy casting magic spells on the incoming zombie horde. Lune would greet her, but she doesn't want to be rude and run Caro's focus since lives were at stake here. Instead, Lune got into position and watched Caro do her thing since she didn't want to risk any friendly fire.

Apparently the sound of the undead across was loud enough to have Ben and Rex not hear him. Not that it mattered anymore. Civilians were starting to head to the library...and four of those creatures were heading their way.

Rex was handling the first one who appeared. So Zero dashed straight for the closest that Ben wasn't aiming at.

He then shouted at the loudest he could, hoping they would hear, "After dealing with these, we have to go back and defend the library! Everyone is heading there!"

Not buying it, center of the library

"Oh really now?" Miss Tairee asked rhetorically and sarcastically. "Not only would you have not gone through with your plan, but you actually like kids. What a perfectly convenient way to not only dodge any repercussions but also try to get on my good side" the librarian continued, still sarcastic as she glanced over towards one side of the barricades as some more yelling and shooting started.

Her expression went serious again when she looked back at Sans. "Being unable to trust what somebody's saying because they could be lying goes both ways, skeleton. The difference is I don't have anything to gain if you believed a lie I told you, or anything to lose if you didn't believe it. I'm guessing you're about to claim that it's the same case for you, but we both know that would be a lie. You saw what I did to Sawyer; you know what you could lose by being on my bad side, and what you could potentially gain being on my good side" Miss Tairee said, rather criticizing.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have a lot of ammunition to copy paste" Miss Tairee then told him, looking back to her computer and seeming rather done with the conversation.

Twilight had been using her flight ability to fly around the library, to quickly examine every side.

She eventually settled on the north, after civs showed up.

She noticed the militia's hesitation, so she came up with a solution.

She flew near the crowd, and used levitation magic on the civilians. Her intention being to lift in the air, where they can be safe from cross fire and the zombies, until things were safer.

Library - consequences

The librarian was smart, no doubt about it, even though she couldn't really seem to be able to tell when someone was being honest. After all, she had been suspicious of him ever since the first time they talked to each other before the who Mary thing happened.

"y'know, i never said i was above consequences or any of that stuff. if you really want to punish me for what i said i would do, then go ahead, i don't really care."

With all that said, Sans merely turned around and leaned against the desk, he didn't really have much to do at the time other than wait and see what happens. The fighting had just started after all, there's no need to get too worried about it yet.

Viola I Library I Runner

Viola nods back at Seiga as she and her familiar made their way over to the desk and supply some ammo. "Don't worry, I'll try my best to not die," My delightful conversation with the necromancer coming to an end, it's time to get started on my role.

I moved to the center of the library, where piles upon piles of... gun ammunition? appeared on the desk. The only ammunition that I recognized are ones belonging to a rifle, so I assume the others serve the same function. Ah, so this is what they meant when they say 'ammo'. I tried grabbing as much of them as I possibly can without inconveniencing myself. Which is not a large amount by any stretch when the one doing the carrying is just a normal child, but I'll manage.

After grabbing all that I can, I went towards the west side of the entrance, who appeared to be facing trouble, as evidenced by the militia's shouting. Hopefully, these meager supplies I'm carrying would be put to good use, as whatever they wanted to put down, it's obviously something that no one wants to see get inside.

Somewhere in the city

Those bothering to pay enough attention would hear an excessive amount of gunfire coming from a certain area of the city. Those with a high enough vantage would see that it was the Ruckus factory, which the collective swarm was starting to reach from the edge of the city.

One of the balconies

The ice was making the zombies lose footing alright, but there was just so many of them. The ones in front kept getting pushed forward by the ones behind them, or alternatively used as stepping stones if they fell over, and they kept making slow progress even with the sharp icicles starting to jut out of the balcony edge.

And of course, between the fact that this was only one balcony out of the entire city edge that they were assaulting simultaneously, and the shifting nature of the city in general, Jack's efforts here was slowing down the horde by only a marginal degree, and it wasn't long until there were zombies behind him swarming towards him from the city side of the balcony... Also, not all the zombies were created equal.

There was a sudden, very loud and very shrill shriek, and then a body slammed into Jack from behind at high speed, pinning him against the icy balcony floor. The hoodie wearing zombie now on top of him started immediately slicing and tearing at his back with clawed hands, while the collective swarm around him started to close in.

In the streets

The first chryssalid didn't care much about the sand, but the chunk of concrete hitting it as it grabbed the man sent it flung back into the sand dune, dead. The one set on fire by Heatblast did not die, but it did shriek in pain and started to flee from the area. The one that Zero charged had just sliced open a man's arm when he cut right through it with his sword, killing it.

The last chryssalid tackled a person and bit into their neck, shoving the body down to the ground and started doing something to it, covering it in some kind of cocoon.

Library, North side

Twilight's plan worked well, and with the civilians out of the line of fire and most of the zombies getting too close for comfort getting chained up by Caro, they were quickly cut down with lines of gunfire and lasers from the militia men. Karkat, being on the ground out there, was nearly hit several times.

"What are you doing!? I told you you should stay inside the barricade you bloody fool!" Lieutenant Wells yelled at Karkat, as the militia then grabbed the civilians and pulled them inside as Twilight floated them over. More packs of zombies were starting to come their way, but no more civilians could be seen. "Get back in here before you get shot!" the soldier added to Karkat, as the militia held the zombies off with more fire.

Library, East side

The militia member Sophie tugged on the sleeve of, busy helping another pull a civilian over the barricade, glanced at Sophie with a slightly confused expression. "Huh? Miss we're kind of busy right now, why can't you do it yours-"

"Contact!" another militia member yelled, cutting them off. Three black, humanoid creatures with strange masks for heads emerged from a side street about fifty meters out and started rushing for the library on all fours. Militia members not busy helping civilians starting firing away at the creatures, but they zigged and zagged in erratic bursts of movement so fast it was nearly like teleporting.

"We really don't have time!" the militia member speaking to Sophie yelled in slight panic, getting the civilian over the barricade and telling them to go upstairs, then getting his rifle and firing lasers at the beasts.

Library, South side

A few stray packs of zombies started to emerge onto the streets, easily put down by some fire from the militia and one of Plague Knight's bombs going off on a group. A few of the militia gave the knight quick words of thanks.

But then one of the zombies was doing something weird. A lanky figure of a woman with a pot belly and her lower jaw missing, she did not attempt to approach the library and thus was not setting off Plague Knight's bombs. Letting out a high pitched yowl of sorts, she shot out a stream of green liquid at high speed that splashed against the barricade. The militia members closest had thankfully jumped back with some yelps, which turned out to be a good call as the substance started to hiss and pop violently as it slowly eroded the bookshelf it had hit. The extremely caustic acid did not last long, losing its potency and dissolving away after a bit, but the bookshelf had lost a bit of its top and had clearly seen better days.

"Fuck! Kill that thing before it punches a hole in the barricade!" one of the militia yelled, already opening fire on the zombie as it went inside a busted store front to take cover.

Library, West side

The buzz saws from X bounced off the brute's armor, leaving only slight gashes, and Gon's shotgun fire did absolutely nothing appreciable. The electric shocking however slowed it down, and it then brought its arms forward to cover its face and body, leaving it with no vulnerable spots exposed but also currently immobile. "We need something with more punch!" one of the militia members yelled, pointing out the obvious.

"Anyone got an anti tank rifle?" another asked. Some of the militia members stopped shooting at the brute as it shelled up, and instead fired on the random zombie packs still approaching the library as well.

Sadness put her book down and looked up. Her forehead creased immediately; she was positive she recognized the woman from somewhere. "Your voice...were you, um, a furry animal yesterday, in the library? Like a, badger, I think? And the day before that—oh!"

She put the book facedown in her lap and and scooted forward with her hands, oblivious that the woman was trying to back away from her. "You're her, aren't you! Mary's friend...her sister is what she said? I never learned your name, I'm really sorry. Please, have you seen Mary out today? There are a lot of monsters, and...uh..."

It was only then that Sadness realized how scared Kelsey looked. "...um. I'm sorry. I won't hurt you or anything...uh, why are you scared? And what are you talking about...?"

"We can't go back to the library until everyone's safe here!" he shouted, charging towards the Chryssalid that was wrapping up the civilian. Balcony

Jack hit the balcony face-first with a cry of surprise, the impact stunning him more from the suddenness than any real pain or damage. Becoming aware of the painful pressure of several sharp things being dragged across his back, he shot up into the air in a spin to try and dislodge whatever was attacking him, the wind tearing at it as well.

If it succeeded, he would turn and hit the hunter with a bolt of ice magic, then attempt to slow down the horde with ice spikes and obstacles; while keeping a lookout and ear out for any people in need.

X thought for a moment before switching weapons again "I have high powered Explosives. Will that do?" X asked before opening fire with Homing Torpedos onto the Brute.

His ammo for the VWS was holding steady but constant fire like this drained it.

He had other options such as Shotgun Ice, Aiming Laser and Fire Wave. But best to save those, the Sawblades did nothing. A good charge blast from the X Buster might work as well.

Goin' down South Side

"This certainly complicates things," Plague Knight said. The alchemist climbed up to the top of the barrier and tossed a trio of lob bombs with impact fuses filled with component powder towards the Spitter. Each bomb went off as they either hit the ground or a zombie near the Spitter, each explosion growing bigger until the third one hit, creating a massive fireball that split off into a few smaller ones that soon dissipated, burning any zombies in the way.

The Library, east side interior.

The soldiers had their hands full with defending the library's east side from the three shadowy creatures that moved about with impressive speed. Sophie wanted to assist, but she didn't want to leave the thrashing Cole on the ground floor either, where he would be defenseless when the creatures broke through.

If. If they break through. The lilac-haired girl quickly ran back over to Cole. "Sorry if this is too sudden," she said to him, draping one of his arms over her shoulders and trying to bring him to his feet. With her shorter height compared to him, however, unless he tried to stand up on his own, she would be dragging him along his legs.

This will take too long... Sophie looked around, and spotted a burly-looking man that had just squeezed through an opening in the barricade that was a little too small for him.

"Excuse me!" she called out, and he glanced at her before approaching, confusedly noting the difficulty she was having with Cole. "Could you please help Cole up to the second floor?"

The man nodded, and pulled Cole's other arm around his shoulder, allowing Sophie to let go. "Sure, kid, but - "

"Thank you," Sophie abruptly replied, before running for the same opening he had just entered from and diving right through, ending with a fluid combat roll outside as she rose into a running stance.

Draw their attention. Prevent them from anticipating the soldiers' gunfire. Arms stretched out behind her, she took off in one direction, keeping herself out of the soldiers' line of fire. Once she was several meters away from the closest creature, she spun around once, right hand positioned as if to throw something, before actually throwing a mid-sized eleth blade. It spun and arced like a boomerang, its trajectory placed to hopefully catch all three in its circular flight path.
