"Hang on, let come with you" Rex told Makoto. She wasn't doing so hot and it was safe to assume she was in one of a loner mood.
The fake Makoto meanwhile, decided to keep poking the bear by pointing out more of Makoto's flaws. Her not particularly good stealth in particular made it hard for Rex not to smile. She looked cute then, at least in the show they had seen a few days ago, but this was serious and just of the evil clone wasn't a smart move.
Of course, things didn't end there. Somehow the fake wasn't just aware of Ren and his relationship with Makoto but also of the challenge she had accepted to meet Rex again in the future.
"Ok that's it, how do you know that?" he grabbed the fake Makoto by the wrist.
Real Makoto managed to get a grip in time, for however long that lasted, and was already rushing outside. That was good. That was less likely to go bad. I didn't trust, though, that she'd be able to stay outside if we didn't drag the clone out for her to gore soon. Rex was gonna have to miss out on whatever interrogation he was about to be distracted by, unfortunately. "No time for questions! Any more loitering and it'll be a massacre. Out. Out!" I began roughly shoving the both of them toward the door Real Makoto had made off toward.
i guess you can watch me shitpost i guessThere was only mild surprise on the police Makoto's face as Rex grabbed her, but then she put on that cute little smile again and gently brushed his arm with her free hand. "Come on, Rex, I know you're smarter than you pretend to be. It can't be that hard to figure out, can it?" the police Makoto said in a flattering tone. When Lewis came along and started shoving, she didn't really resist, but she did start laughing. "A 'massacre'? You hear that?!" she called out towards the real Makoto, "that's how little they actually trust you! They think you'll start hurting innocent people, while I'm supposed to be the evil one! It's like even they know how you can't be relied on for anything, and are just too nice to say it to your face!"
Silanea clenched her fists and teeth, staring down at the floor in thought, but scowling. "Rex" Silanea then said, in an even, dangerously serious tone. "Let me finish it quickly" the lamia technically suggested, though it came out almost like an order instead.

Makoto stopped by the revolving door as her clone spoke, dragging up a number of things she'd really rather not speak about right now. Was this the challenge? Because it was far harder to sit and listen to her than it was to stab Kelsey's demon copy. It was true that she couldn't really be trusted, but why did she have to say it like that? Makoto pushed her way through the door without comment and ended up with her back to the building, leaning on it for support while she tried to suppress her Persona further.
Was she actually trembling, or was she just that angry? It was difficult to tell anymore. Her mask felt like it was cutting into her skin, but she didn't want to touch it and accidentally trigger something.
"She's saying worse things in there now, probably... Why do you resist?"
Apparently Rean had slept through the majority of yesterday and was out of the loop on today's theme. Caboose in his usual way 'tried' to explain to him what was going on, 'tried' being the word here. Hercules decided to clarify for Rean's sake. "I'm pretty sure the day theme has got something to do with us. Because from what I see there are two Makotos in the library right now." He said quickly looking briefly where the Makoto clone and Makoto was who will now being pushed out the library and then back towards Rean.
"We are basically facing off against Clone versions of ourselves...I think." He then added making his point quite clear.

"You are just a cheap copy"
Rex had tried to insult the fake Makoto but the way he said it sounded more like an statement to remind himself not to fall for such an obvious trick. No matter how cute the fake Makoto tried to look. Maybe he could blame Lewis for the poor choice of words.
Silanea offered to deal with her, but with the real Makoto leaving and feeling overwhelmed, Lewis pushing him outside—rude—Rex had no time to consider the implications of killing someone that wasn't an immediate threat and decided let go of her arm and not give a specific answer.
"Just... keep an eye on her" he took a few step towards the rotating door before throwing Silanea everything he had picked up as 'evidence'. "Here, some handcuffs"
Once outside the library and searched for Makoto. Thankfully she hadn't run away as he expected. She was leaning against the building, shivering and with her mask covering her face. Rex approached her slowly, knowing she probably didn't want to talk much.
"...hey, I'm here, it's okay"

"'Cheap copy'? Well, I wonder if that's what she thinks" the police Makoto remarked to Rex, with a motion outside at Makoto.
Silanea looked at Rex with this dumbfounded, 'are you shitting me right now' kind of expression as he handed her the items, and then she sighed in frustration. "Alright, very well" Silanea said, turning to Lewis and the police Makoto. "That's enough" the lamia stated, then lunged quickly.
In the more-effective lamia version of just sitting on someone to subdue them, within moments Silanea was using her tail to constrict the police Makoto in place, stopping her from going anywhere, and stopping Lewis from pushing her either. "She's not going out there with them; not now" Silanea told Lewis, unhappy, but determined.
"Anybody else notice... She's missing a knuckle duster?" the police Makoto wheezed out, and tried to give a smug chuckle, but Silanea's tail tightened.
"Be. Silent" Silanea ordered, her teeth clenched.

You are reading this."I really just wanna get this over with," I told the clone, still shoving her toward the door. It was about the first and last thing I actually intended to say to her, seeing as talking now would just waste time, which, we were...gonna do anyway, I guess. Cascabel, not having hands to facepalm with, instead just sorta smacked its head against a nearby table.
"...Seriously? Seriously?" I flinched as Silanea effectively ripped the clone from me, not to be displaced anytime soon, glaring at Rex fucking off with no sense of consequence or attempt to grasp the very real danger. "This is what we're—what did I just—YOU'RE NOT EVEN LISTENING TO ME! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU'RE DOING!?"
Somewhere in the muddied zone between deeply frustrated and legitimately angry, I pulled the phaser out of my bag and pointed it at the clone. "At least let me shut her up, damnit. That idiot..."
i guess you can watch me shitpost i guessStinkfly crossed his arms and grinned.
"Well any copy of me that thinks they can pretend to be me and get away with it is gonna have another thing coming!" Stinkfly said, landing on the deck of the ship.
"The Library isn't safe anymore. Miss Tairee isn't allowed to protect anyone. So all of the innocent civilians there are gonna be in danger unless we can get them to safety. There was a crazy version of Kelsey who turned into a monster and attacked people so everyone's gotta get out," Stinkfly explained. "Me, Thomas and Louie were gonna help bring people here. But we need to get the ship there first. I can go Upgrade and soup up the engines just like the alien invasion," Stinkfly suggested.

Makoto didn't notice Rex until he spoke up, and she mooved a few inches away from him. Being right next to her was a risk if her concentration slipped.
"...She's right about me. I can't control Anat. That sword that stabbed us, it"- Makoto winced and resisted touching her mask. Now that the radio was gone, there wasn't much she could do to dull the discomfort. "She really wants a fight, and I don't think I can calm her down until she's weakened." She closed her eyes and focused on breathing. "If you stay around me, you may have to subdue her before something worse happens."
Things were starting to make sense now. Makoto couldn't control Anat right now thanks to the weapon the fake Kelsey had brought along with her. It wasn't hard to assume it was part of the writer's plan to make Makoto's powers go haywire but then why would the copy go looking for the actual Kelsey? It could be just a lie.
Regardless, that wasn't really important. Makoto was afraid of being a threat and Rex was getting a little too close to for her taste. She wasn't sure Anat wouldn't turn hostile.
"It's okay, it already happened once and I walked away just fine. Even got a new build out of the deal..." he took a single step forward with his hands up to his chest, trying to show everything was fine. "Just don't run away, please. I'm here"
"We know the library isn't safe; that's why Wells told us to go there" Greg said, pausing in thought over what Ben said. "Wait, Kelsey, as in the lady who joined us? Her copy turned into a monster? But, Kelsey can't do that" the militia member thought out loud, glancing to other people on deck and adding, "can she?"
"Uh, pretty sure she can't, no" another militia member answered, shaking their head.
"Uh... Well we'll be there in just a couple more minutes anyway; is that copy still there?" Greg asked Ben, glancing back to him. "Guys, we better get the guns all ready just in case!" the militia member then loudly told the others, who started to hurry around the deck.
"What I'm more concerned about Ben, is our power reserves" Greg explained, starting to walk towards the rear of the deck, apparently expecting Ben to follow, because he kept talking, "eventually it's going to be nighttime and we'll have what, twelve whole hours with no primary power source for the solar sails. Unless we can find an alternative, we've gotta keep the power consumption at a more efficient rate, or we'll be out of power and helpless with tons of time still to go, and presumably, still copies trying to kill us and everyone on board."
You are reading this.I pumped a single phaser blast into the clone's face, swearing impotently at nothing. "Ugh, ¡si no se mata por imbécil, lo mato yo!note Why even bring her in here!? What was he expecting to achieve? He literally just dumped her in, started up the pressure cooker, and then fucked off without explaining and ignored me telling him it was an emergency like I'm some sort of joke. He never listens when I need him to!" I began repeatedly stomping a chair. "You know this is stupid, I can hear it in your voice, and yer still goin' with this. Y'know what, I don't care. We don't need to feed it to Anat, metaphorically speaking. There's zero chance Makoto'll ride right back in to run it over, defeating the point of getting her outside and probably resulting in death, all because he has no damn idea what he's doing. Aaaaaaaagh, I can't take it anymore! I'm going after him!" Kicking the chair on its side, I began marching to the door
i guess you can watch me shitpost i guessStinkfly transformed back into Ben, then he started to follow Greg over towards the stern.
"I dunno, Rex and Makoto kicked her out of the library, I don't know if she got back in though," he explained. Ben adjusted the Omnitrix and this time transformed into Upgrade.
"That's okay, I can deal with the power myself! Lemme take a look at that solar battery, maybe I can give it a boost," Upgrade suggested, holding up a hand. The green ring that represented his eye flashed and his fingers crackled with green electricity.

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.Silanea relaxed her tail a bit, but stayed coiled around the police Makoto, as the lamia was currently tasked with keeping an eye on the copy. Part of what Lewis said got Silanea to narrow her eyes in disbelief. "Listen to you? And after everything that happened, you're surprised he wouldn't?" Silanea asked Lewis rhetorically, and a bit accusingly.
"Well, I guess why not" Greg agreed with a shrug, and started to lead Upgrade down below deck. "Though uh, don't you have to like, merge with a thing to do stuff with that form? You intend to stay merged with the power system all night?" the militia member wondered as he went along. Getting to where the base of the main mast went below deck, the bottom of it was this machine that looked very similar to a wood burning furnace, except filled with glowing energy.
You are reading this."Well—no, but," I faltered, physically and verbally. "Even before, it never felt like he honestly cared about trying to understand...most people, really? Which, no I didn't handle like a fucking adult in hindsight and what was I expecting from a literal teenager anyway but, it still hurts, and in any case he's still refusing to turn his brain on right now during an actual emergency?"
At some point I'd unconsciously stopped a couple feet before the door, and only now had noticed. "...No, that's not entirely true, there was the time...look, I'm still going, alright?" I shook my head, going outside anyway. "I hate to interrupt the touching moment," I began, "but are you gonna be able to keep this out here? Because there was a reason I wanted the other one outside."

Makoto was surpsied Rex wasn't backing off after hearing all the technically true facts from her clone. Maybe he didn't care...? She just hadn't wanted to mess with his memories again, but maybe there was a selfish reason for her deal too. It was too late anyway, she wasn't going to go back and void the agreement. Anat seemed a little less insistent now.
"...Okay, I won't leave, but you have to promise you won't hold back if we do end up fighting. I don't want to hurt you or anyone else that doesn't deserve it," she said, opening her eyes again. "...I'm sorry for getting myself into this." Makoto glanced at Lewis when he spoke up, and then sat down by the side of the building, curling up around her knees. "I'll stay out here."
Library -> To the outside!
Garrett nodded. "All right, let's go." He headed towards one of the library exits—one as far away from Makoto as possible (and preferrably with no danger visible immediately beyond it).
He checked to make sure Caboose followed close behind. Assuming nothing had stopped Caboose, Garrett proceeded to step outside, putting on the gas mask as he did.
Upgrade followed Greg into the Thunder Child's engine room, taking a once-over at the generator.
"Fine," Upgrade murmured. "You got any better ideas? We need to get people to safety though. And the Library's no longer an option. What happened to your fortress?" he asked. "Isn't that basically impenetrable?"
I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.Greg looked at Upgrade with a raised eyebrow. "Well, bringing them on board is still the plan, at least for now, since we've got plenty of firepower and are mobile. As for the prison, well, we keep prisoners there, Ben; you know, people who are dangerous? Besides, it's not impenetrable; you could break in there, which means your copy can too, and you're not the only one" Greg explained, shaking his head and thinking. "Honestly, I'm a little worried we might end up being a sitting duck up here, but we've got to try something. We're not going to leave those people to fend for themselves after all; that's why we're even in the militia" the militia member went on, pausing as he heard another militia member calling and approaching.
"Greg! Greg!" some lady alien with blue skin and what seemed to be tentacles for hair called, running over to them. "We've arrived at the library, and also maybe have a situation" the asari told Greg.
"What kind of situation?" Greg asked.
"A big robot with guns and a guy with armor like Eight Four's riding on top" the asari answered quickly.
"... Oh" Greg stated after a short pause, then started running back to the stairs to the top deck, without saying anything else.
Off to one side, the Thunder Child could be seen slowly floating in over the roofs of the other buildings closest to the library. Out ahead of Garrett as he walked out of the library, came a clanking sound. It was steady, getting gradually a bit louder, until an eighteen and a half foot tall robot
◊ came walking into view around a street corner, with what was clearly the copy of Caboose- still in blue armor rather than the real Caboose's now red armor- riding on top while kicking his feet playfully.
"We have reached the library, master. Calculations predict the real you is likely to be inside" the copy of Freckles said in a deep tone, as it came to a stop in the street.
"We're going to have such a fun time! I can't wait!" the Caboose copy said gleefully.
"Master. The real you is our designated target for this day" the copy of Freckles reminded the fake Caboose. The fake Caboose was just silent for several seconds. "It is our mission to kill him" the robot clarified.
"Oh! Right! I knew that!" the fake Caboose lied. "That doesn't mean we have to be rude about it though, Freckles!" the soldier added.
"Master, other likely hostiles detected. Ship inbound" the copy of Freckles mentioned, rotating slightly to face towards the Thunder Child.
"Hello! I hope we can be friends!" the fake Caboose yelled, waving one arm at the flying ship.
You are reading this."...Oh. Bye then." Rean said as Caboose headed out with Garrett.
So, clones of themselves, huh? Poor Makoto had the luck to get hit with that twice, too. What would a clone of him even be like?
Rean looked around and then spotted Ellen sitting with the other children reading.
"Hey, Ellen." Rean said squatting down next to the little girl. "Feeling better today?"

"Come on, remember when you followed Ren around, but didn't even realize you had your little cover book upside-down?" the police Makoto said, moving towards the real Makoto, and therefore towards the revolving door. "How about joining the militia here, with their much more lax rules than police back home, but still choking and having to quit, in the same day?" the duplicate went on mockingly.
This gave Silanea pause. "The copy... She knows about what Makoto's been through here?" Silanea muttered, as she thought through the implications of that.
"Then you made a deal to get to see Rex again, but one of you has to forget, huh? Well of course it should be you; if it was him, you'd probably screw it up" the police Makoto continued, pausing and glancing back at Rex with a more sly, almost seductive sort of look. "Plus well, if he forgot about you, he probably wouldn't still be single by the time you found him, huh? No need to worry about you finding anyone else though; not after you blew it with Ren, after all" the duplicate went on, looking back at Makoto again with that smug sneer.
