Battle outside the library, one down five to go

Kaylie was still right behind the tentacruel, watching from just over one side of his large shell. So when Diamondhead pointed his arms towards them, Kaylie instructed the pokemon simply, "barrier again." Some of Diamondhead's shots were hitting the tentacruel before he managed to intensify his shield, after which he weathered the barrage seemingly easily. "You seem just as hot headed and foolish as Louie; no wonder you get along" the trainer then commented, motioning one arm to her team in general, though kind of weakly given her injuries, "don't you get it? You're right in the middle of my team! You're screwed!"

"Greetchy, back up and use synthesis; and let's get a bug buzz and iron head on him" Kaylie instructed her team, motioning to Diamondhead. The galvantula took a few steps forward, then sent some kind of buzzing sound wave attack at Diamondhead. A bit after that, the escavalier would float in behind Diamondhead and swing its large helmet crest at the alien.

Meanwhile, the mega sceptile had taken a few steps back, and had started to glow and recover some health. A glob of purple goo then splashed over the sceptile, thrown by Lil' Sunny, despite the lingering flames. Greetchy staggered, then roared out as Kaylie turned to look. "Poisoned!? What?!" Kaylie stammered, and looked over at Louie and Lil' Sunny with a scowl. "Argh! Psychic on her!" the grown trainer added angrily, and the minior launched another blob of energy through the air at Lil' Sunny; after it hit her in the face, the roserade hit the ground hard, knocked out.

Kaylie smirked, and glanced at Louie. "Now use will-o-wisp on him" Kaylie said, and the sableye grinned more before summoning more little ghostly flames to go towards the other trainer directly. Louie looked a bit nervous, yet determined, and reached into his bag of holding to draw a potion, and threw it right down at the ground; as the bottle smashed, a thick cloud of smoke was unleashed, obscuring Louie.

"Now Swishee!" Louie yelled out before coughing.

Up above, Swishee honked and came swooping down in her divebomb attack, smacking right into Greetchy. The impact sent the mega sceptile down onto his side, where he let out a groaning noise as he tried to get back up, but then slumped unconscious. "NO!" Kaylie yelled angrily.

Meanwhile, Thomas didn't seem too impressed by Gwen's words, though did look a bit worried when she fired a beam of energy towards Hercules. Narrowing his eyes, Thomas floated down to get a bit closer, and with his wand pointed at Gwen's back, uttered the incantation, "petrificus totalus." A quick shot of light would hit Gwen's back, then if the spell worked, she would be immobilized, unable to move except to breathe or look around with her eyes.

On the other side of the battlefield, sergeant Cassianus grunted from the spell's hit, but then promptly retaliated with a few well aimed shots right into Anat, the rounds exploding against her chest and face.

Brother Marcus shook his helmet. "Let us, no, but that is the idea of making a plan, is it not?" Brother Marcus said, rhetorically and with almost a hint of joking to it. "I am not certain if his current optics can properly see through dust, but it is highly possible that would not work. As for electrical charge, we could potentially disable his suit; that would slow him further, but still not completely disable him" the space marine added, then turned his helmet towards the door in seeming contemplation.

"If we move into the library, he will start to fire on the other combatants out here" Brother Marcus muttered, with some mild concern. "If I can engage him in melee combat without being knocked away again, I should be able to finish him" the space marine added, lifting his chainsword.

The Miss Tairee copy looked back to the holographic screen. "Alright then, hmm... Maybe something also good for children your age. Ah, I think this may be good" the Miss Tairee copy thought aloud while tapping some more buttons. A second holographic display extended in front of Ellen, and started to play an episode of Spongebob Squarepants, about the titular character and his friend Patrick obtaining and playing with a cardboard box.

"Affirmative," the weapon responded to Garret in its trademark monotone. "I have been given the designation 'Freckles' by Captain Caboose."

It then added on to the explanation of the enemy that Garret gave. "Agent Washington is an elite soldier who has survived many years on the battlefield. He is highly skilled and will not go down easily."

Silvester's comment that guns couldn't normally talk was met with one quick explanation. "I am the personality chip of a mantis class military assault droid integrated into Captain Caboose's assault rifle."

Gwen Fight

Hercules got out of the way of the energy blasts that Gwen send at him he then saw that Thomas was showing concern for him and cast another spell on Gwen again but only this time, she was completely frozen in place and couldn’t do a thing about it. Hercules then very briefly gave Thomas a thumbs up as a way of saying “Thanks” before again taking advantage Gwen’s sudden paralysis and send a couple more arrows her way.

Silvester's eyes widened a little in realization. "Caboose? Oh. Ooh. That explains it; you're from a slightly different universe than the one that I thought. Now I know which one you're from" Silvester thought out loud, moving around Garrett to get closer to the central desks. "Excuse me? Could we have some information on Agent Washington from Red Versus Blue, please?" the Fanboy asked the librarian and her copies.

"Certainly, one moment" one of the Miss Tairee copies said, and in short order there was a blur on the desk as a PDA with a wiki page about Agent Washington loaded appeared, along with a few Red Versus Blue DvDs, and some kind of informational behind the scenes collectors book.

"Here, some of this stuff might be helpful" Silvester suggested to Garrett, grabbing one of the DvD cases and turning it over to look at the back.

Thunder Child — "It's not their performance, it's yours, you jam it. You could have taken all of them two moves earlier"

"Sorry, my fans expect a certain amount of quippage in every battle"

Oddly enough, Rex felt like he had borrowed someone else's words but it wasn't like the spartan would complain about lack of originality. Or that he had fans.

The militia member that had bought him some time was met with more shots but thankfully the spartan seemed to stop for a bit after. Rex quickly noticed she had gone after her gun which prompted him to run after her. In his way, a sword caught up with him, landing between himself and the weapon. Six was back up and in the mood for some teamwork.

"Of course you shrugged that off"

"And now the wizard isn't here to help you"

Rex didn't answer and simply tried to crush Six with his smack hands. The ninja's reappearance had blinded him and even if the spartan managed to shoot him it was worth getting rid of the fake copy taunting him. Unfortunately, that same blind hatred made his moves all the more obvious. Six didn't have much trouble anticipating the attack and jumping over Rex's hand, getting just in range to cut Rex's cheek with his sword and retrieve his other one before hoping out of the way.

The effort was enough to catch Rex by surprise and his build collapsed as expected. With his nanites spread too thin to work properly, that cut was not looking good.

"...that better heal soon" he said, checking on the wound.

"You haven't worked on your reaction time. Disappointing, as usual"

Outside the Library

Anat swapped to bike form and drove over to Makoto, who was having a harder time standing up. Those shots hurt, but she was going to have to withstand them some more if they wanted to get anything done.

"Y-you need just one opening to get in on him, right? I think I can do that. Just...don't hesitate to go through Anat if that's what it takes to kill him. I won't die, it'll just hurt for a while." Makoto used one more Marakukaja spell on herself and Marcus to increase their defenses, and then got on her motorcycle. "I'm going to try and put him off balance, and then you can finish him off." Makoto drove to the back of the room, and then made a u-turn and revved the gas, charging at a window. The motorcycle shattered the glass on impact and landed on the ground outside, changing direction to head towards Sergeant Cassianus. It didn't matter if he fired his gun, as long as he wasn't looking at Marcus. She launched a Mafreidyne, setting off multiple explosions around him if he didn't move aside.

Battle outside the library

Ignoring Rex and letting him be distracted by Six, the spartan kept running; though she did quickly snatch up the rifle, it was soon clear that she was actually after something else, as she hopped onto the seat of one of the Thunder Child's cannons, and tried to swing it about towards Rex.

Fortunately for Rex though, the cannon clunked to a stop well before she could aim it at him. The ship's cannons had been intelligently designed so that aiming them at the ship itself was not possible, and their turning arc was limited. "Oh, brilliant" the spartan muttered sarcastically as she gave up on that plan, instead standing in the seat and once again starting to shoot at Rex with her burst fire rifle.

Meanwhile down below, Brother Marcus gave Makoto a nod, though he did add, "I think it will take us both acting simultaneously." With that, Brother Marcus took a position near the doorway again, and waited. "The Emperor protects" the space marine said as a send off to Makoto, before she sped off into the window.

Even as Makoto was landing, sergeant Cassianus was already shifting his aim appropriately, but before he could open fire, a shot from Marcus' bolt pistol hit the sergeant in the upper arm, blasting against his armor and throwing his aim off slightly. "There you are!" sergeant Cassianus said as he quickly turned his aim towards Marcus instead, letting out a stream of shots as Marcus boosted through the air. The sergeant kept his fire on the other space marine right up until the blasts went off around him, which staggered him again. After a grunt of frustration, the sergeant looked at the rapidly approaching Makoto, then he lifted one leg up and shouted, "that's enough!" He punctuated his statement by slamming his foot back down, right into Anat's front tire as they reached him; the front end of the bike was caved in and Makoto was sent somersaulting over the head of the space marine.

There was a rough impact, though not as rough as it should have been, and not with the ground; with another jump, Brother Marcus caught Makoto, though had to immediately let her go to the ground as he landed next to the sergeant. With a yell, Marcus quickly swung his chainsword at the sergeant, being met with the top of the heavy bolter used to block it. The sergeant went for a kick which Marcus seemed to anticipate and barely sidestepped, but then when Marcus tried to aim his bolt pistol right at the sergeant over the heavy bolter, the sergeant suddenly let go of the heavy weapon with one hand to smack the pistol out of Marcus' hand. Sergeant Cassianus then braced his hand against the heavy bolter and pushed it to shove Marcus back a step, then in a smooth, practiced motion, swung his heavy bolter back down into aiming position, and started firing on Marcus at point blank. Makoto's spell was helping, but Marcus' armor was still starting to wear down, and he was shoved down to the ground on his back from the force of it, with the sergeant still mercilessly firing heavy bolter shots right into Marcus at full auto.

... And also with his back turned to Makoto, focused entirely on trying to kill Brother Marcus.

The streets

Diamondhead yelled in pain as the Bug Buzz hit him, his crystalline skin starting to crack after the sonic attack, before being shoved by the Escavalier. He weakly glared at Kaylie.

"No. No, you're screwed," Diamondhead said simply. He pulled up a bubble of crystal around himself as a shield. Then he pressed the button on the watch, a red flash vaguely visible underneath the crystal.

Ben hurriedly went through his alien options and selected Cannonbolt, then pressed the button and transformed. With a green flash, Cannonbolt emerged, busting through the crystal as he appeared.

He then curled into a ball, revving up as fast as he could and charging directly at Tentacruel and Kaylie, intending to bowl them over.

Meanwhile, Gwen was immobilized by the sudden spell. Struggling against it, she was impacted in the chest by several arrows before she managed to break free.

Weak and angered, she turned directly towards the wizard and suddenly dashed at him, sending dozens of mana bolts in his direction with the intent to kill.

Outside the Library

Anat faded away after having its front end crushed by the Space Marine, and it was hard to realize what was going on through the blinding pain until Marcus dumped her on the ground. She blinked the spots out of her vision as the phantom pain left her, though she still struggled to breathe from the mental stress of the damage Anat took. The thundering of the bolter gun brought some of her focus back. Marcus was pinned down, but...she had an opening.

"Just die already..." she whispered, touching her mask. It felt like she was close to her limit, but Anat appeared and drew her swords. Without the need for a verbal command, Anat drove the two blade points into Sergeant Cassianus' back, aiming for any points where the plates of his armor connected. The deeper they could push the swords in, the better.

Battle outside the library

The tentacruel raised a few tentacles up and braced, letting Cannonbolt slam into the barrier before grabbing him; the pokemon had managed to stop Cannonbolt the previous day, with some difficulty, and well, this was the same pokemon, only older, and stronger. "Yeah, you sure showed me" Kaylie said sarcastically as she stepped back away from tentacruel. "Go ahead and use toxic" the trainer added to the tentacruel, while reaching into her coat and grabbing one of those green spray bottle things.

The tentacruel shot purple goo right at Cannonbolt at point blank, while Kaylie turned to move towards the unconscious Greetchy.

Instead though, she bumped into a shiny claydol. "What?" Kaylie muttered, surprised and confused.

Going back a little...

Using her newly given dig ability, Pecha had carefully burrowed and tunneled her way under the fighting, finally coming back up near the fainted Goldeneye. Then the trapinch spat up the spray bottle from her mouth and, with some difficulty, managed to activate it to spray the restorative mist onto the shiny claydol.

As Goldeneye floated back up off the ground and hummed in confusion, Pecha barked quietly, passing along the instructions she had been given. Goldeneye's many eyes all narrowed in determination and anger, and it floated off towards the battle, behind Kaylie's team.

Back to the present

Already when Kaylie bumped into Goldeneye, it was building energy and shaking a bit, all its eyes glaring. Kaylie's eyes widened, and she tried to get back, but it was too late. "No!-" The claydol suddenly became the center of an explosion, as it burst out all of its energy at once before falling to the ground with a thunk, unconscious again. Kaylie was thrown to the ground, also unconscious from the blast combined with the hits she'd taken previously.

The sableye turned to see what happened, and started shrieking. Then flowery vines suddenly wrapped around her from behind and started sapping energy from her. Louie stepped out of the smoke cloud, using one of his potions- the pokemon ones, not the Potter ones- on Lil' Sunny to help her with the fire, as she used giga drain on the sableye.

The galvantula stomped her legs around as she freaked out, then fired a large bolt of electricity towards Cannonbolt in a big arc through the air. The minior floated over next to the galvantula to join the assault, only both of them suddenly started getting hit with chunks of asphalt thrown from Pecha. The minior's shell cracked, then fell away, revealing a yellow core. Some crystals appeared around the minior again, but rather than shoot the lasers it had before, now it had them all align to suddenly reflect a bunch of light at the trapinch, which hit her like an attack regardless.

The escavalier, angered like the others about Kaylie getting knocked unconscious, started to move towards Louie and Lil' Sunny, while chattering furiously.

Meanwhile, Thomas started to move out of the way with his broom to try to dodge, while letting off one more spell with his wand. "Stupefy!" Thomas commanded, sending another bolt of light at Gwen; immediately after Thomas took multiple hits through the torso and one leg, making him yell out in pain and roll off the broomstick. Thomas fell around ten feet before hitting the street on his side, followed shortly by the broom clattering to the ground nearby.

On the other side of the battlefield, sergeant Cassianus kept shooting without noticing Anat's approach, finally yelling out in pain and surprise as the two swords were driven in underneath the ammo pack. Anat's swords were able to stab in until clanging to a stop on the inner side of the sergeant's chest plate; so while they hadn't managed to come sticking out the other side in a satisfying manner, the space marine was nevertheless impaled. Understandably, he stopped shooting, and his grip on the heavy bolter was getting shaky as he lifted it back up a bit. "Foul, heretic!" sergeant Cassianus said angrily, his voice audibly wet from blood getting into his lungs.

To his credit as an astartes, he continued to struggle, swinging an elbow back into Anat, then lifting a foot and sending back another powerful kick-stomp. However, the damage was done; his breathing was heavy and still wet, and he fell down to one knee, finally dropping the heavy bolter. "It's not... Over..." sergeant Cassianus muttered, still not dead yet.

He was finally dying. Anat took the elbow directly, but then backed away before the space marine's kick could connect. The swords were pulled out, leaving two deep, no longer obstructed wounds behind to bleed. Makoto smiled at his not so impressive last stand despite the headache she was getting. He didn't have much fight left in him.

"Yes, I am a very foul heretic. You need a new insult, that one's wearing out its welcome here." She walked around and tried to drag the bolter out of his immediate grasp, in case the downed space marine had a last desperate plan. Anat approached his back again, simultaneously working on removing the ammo pack by cutting it off. "You still alive, Marcus?"

Battle outside the library, not dead yet

Anat was able to cut the ammunition feed without much difficulty, but Makoto would have some trouble moving the large and aptly named as heavy bolter; still, she would manage to start dragging it away, but then a large cereamite gauntlet wrapped around her neck in a sudden movement. Even on one knee, sergeant Cassianus lifted Makoto off her feet with one hand; the pressure was immediately cutting off her air, and only the properties of her Phantom Theif outfit along with her previous spell were keeping him from immediately snapping her neck or decapitating her. "For, the Emperor" sergeant Cassianus wheezed, his helmet visor seeming to stare intently at Makoto as he was determined to at least take her with him.

There was a loud clang, and the pressure around Makoto's neck suddenly eased. Another clang, as a large, hammer-like wrench was swung into the sergeant again, this time into his helmet. Makoto was let go completely, and the sergeant fell down onto his side.

Veela the gremlin, not content yet, hopped up onto the sergeant and kept swinging her thwack hammer down onto his armor again and again. "That's! For! Killing! Fastanook!" Veela yelled, punctuating each word with another swing. She didn't notice nor care that the astartes was finally dead, and the same applied to Brother Marcus blurring and vanishing behind Makoto.

Cannonbolt spun as fast as he could in the Tentacruel's grip, trying to free himself. It was difficult to rev up with the tentacles grabbing onto him, especially when the Tentacruel shot him with purple goo which made him feel strange, as well as the Galvantula shocking him with electricity.

The confusion of the explosion seemed to distract the Pokemon, and Cannonbolt took this opportunity to uncurl and tackle Tentacruel as hard as he could in order to try and make Tentacruel release his grip.

Meanwhile, Gwen raised her arms to try and finish Thomas off, but shuddered as the Stupefying Charm hit her. Already weakened and her constitution fraying as she had been battling the group, she fell to one knee. Her form shuddered and she returned to her human appearance, before falling face first on the ground, unconscious, but still alive.

Outside the Library—->Lobby

Makoto landed on her feet after the space marine was forced to drop her, but then fell backwards as she coughed and struggled to take a breath in. Why did they keep going for her neck? Getting almost choked to death twice wasn't the best track record.

"...Asshole," she whispered at the unmoving body. Marcus had died too, but at least he was able to respawn now. Veela continued to beat the sergeant with her giant wrench, which probably wasn't healthy. Rex was still with the militia ship though, and she needed to help him. Anat had gone translucent for the time that Makoto was on the brink of passing out, but solidified again. The Persona watched Veela for a few more seconds, and then faded away with a sigh. Makoto shoved her way through the revolving door into the library, heading for the front desk.

"Miss Tairee, can I have a box of revolver ammo, a riot shield, an energy drink, and..." She needed a way to get up to the ship too. "And a grappling hook? Like the one Joker has." It might come in handy when they faced off again.

Battle outside the library

It did seem like the tentacruel wasn't quite expecting Cannonbolt to uncurl suddenly, but it took the hit and stayed up, moving back a little while trying to wrap some tentacles around Cannonbolt's arms. Even without his trainer's instruction, the pokemon knew what the usual order of things was; now that Cannonbolt had been hit with toxic, the tentacruel sprayed another purple liquid, trying to follow up on Cannonbolt with venoshock.

Meanwhile, Pecha tried to recover and follow up with another attack, but the minior acted much faster and shot the trapinch with a blob of psychic energy, putting her down. The galvantula next to the minior had turned to look, so Ace took his chance to rush at her now that he was free from the webbing, and hit her with a solid blaze kick. After staggering from the hit, the galvantula looked at Ace and chattered angrily, then shot Ace at point blank with a big lightning bolt, making Ace squawk in pain. There was a honk and flapping of wings above, and Swishee suddenly dove in, smacking into the galvantula with her large bill, finally knocking the electric bug unconscious.

On the other side of the fighting, Louie grabbed another potion from his bag and chucked it into the escavalier, making him heavier; struggling to continue floating, the escavalier's bottom thunked into the ground and started scraping along, but continued moving towards Louie, just more slowly now. Frowning, Louie started searching in the bag for another potion, while telling Lil' Sunny, "keep on using giga drain!" Lil' Sunny squeaked and nodded, preparing more vines, but the sableye turned around quickly and did her little swagger again; Lil' Sunny shook her head and squeaked again, getting dazed from the effect.

One of the Miss Tairee copies looked to Makoto, then looked back to her holographic screen and started tapping buttons. "Ammunition for your own revolver, I assume. Would you like one of those lighter, clear plastic kind of riot shields, or one of the more solid, metal ones? What kind of energy drink?" the Miss Tairee copy said, while in the meantime just a grappling hook identical to Joker's and the box of ammo appeared with blurs on the desk.

"Maybe you should uh, ask for some healing, too?" Silvester suggested, still looking at the stuff about Washington nearby.

Garrett reluctantly picked up the PDA which displayed a wealth of information about Agent Washington. Being already familiar with the cell phone and the laptop, it did not take him long to figure out how to scroll through the displayed page.

Most of the page was taken up by Washington's backstory, which Garrett deemed irrelevant. They were trying to kill him, not reminisce about old times. Most of it was incomprehensible anyway, and Garrett didn't feel like asking Tairee to clarify every other sentence.

What he read did not bode well. Apparently Washington had "formidable combat ability", "incredible level of skill with firearms" and was "good with knives" as well as "adept at hand-to-hand combat". And to make things worse, he was "extremely adaptive and a quick thinker". About the only weakness mentioned was that Washington suffered from a lot of mental trauma. Also, he used to wet the bed. That was unlikely to help Garrett in a fight.

"Anything useful written on these boxes?" Garrett asked Silvester.

Cannonbolt winced in pain at the Tentacruel's attack, feeling the life force being sapped away from him, as he tried to headbutt the Tentacruel again.

When his arms were constricted by the Tentacruel's tentacles, he turned towards one of the nearby tentacles and bit down with his sharp teeth as hard as he could into the Pokemon. It was another attempt to make Tentacruel release its grip. If it were successful, Cannonbolt would curl up again and rev out of reach, trying instead to plow into another Pokemon nearby (probably the weird star thing Minior).

"A metal shield," Makoto said as she worked on reloading her gun. She could carry it either way and the extra protection was what she wanted. "And..." Was the kind of energy drink important? Not really. "Mad Bull brand, I guess." She looked back at Silvester with a hint of surprise, not expecting him to be helpful. She could heal her injuries, but that would burn energy. "Er, maybe that would be a good idea..." Better than picking a fight while half dead.

Ellen and the Silent Cat (Library) - Idiot Box

It took me a few seconds to process what was in front of me. It looked like a window, but it wasn't actually there for me to touch it... and behind the glass that wasn't there were people with weird shapes. Even the cat was curious about it, saying it wasn't too different from "magic viewing", a thing future me had learned to do.

From the things the "hollow screen" (that's what the library woman called it) showed, I learned about a lot of new things. I learned about the sea, which is a place full of salt water and fish; about televisions, which were like hollow screens but you could touch them; about starfish, which are fish shaped like stars; about pineapples, octopuses, sponges, trucks, recorders, pirates, and so many other different things. Each answered question filled me with joy. A kind of joy I couldn't remember having felt in my life.

But more important than all that, it taught me about things friends did. And it made me realize... I wanted that. I wanted friends. I wanted to call their names and hear them call mine. I wanted to play together with them, learn new things with them, and talk with them about things. I wanted to hold their hands and run around, or hide together inside a box and turn it into our secret place, hidden from the eyes of the world.

Speaking of boxes... there was still something I was curious about.

"So where did all the noise come from after all?" I asked, completely unable and unwilling to hide the smile that had appeared on my face. "Was it really just their imagination?"

The tentacruel took the headbutt much the same as the previous hits, continuing to be a very tanky pokemon; the bite took him by some surprise, although it hadn't done serious damage, but it was an unexpected type of pain. Shaking in annoyance, the tentacruel fired a hydro pump after Cannonbolt, which missed. Then the tentacruel saw where Cannonbolt was going, and he made a cry with a gurgling sort of noise.

Hearing it, the minior glanced back, then zipped right out of Cannonbolt's way with incredible speed. It then decided to do the same dazzling gleam attack it had used on Pecha again, blasting at Cannonbolt and Swishee with the light like a big shotgun spread. Swishee honked sharply in pain, then went flapping up into the sky to get away. Ace let out an angry squawk and performed a leaping kick towards the minior, but the little star-like pokemon simply dodged that as well, making Ace crash onto the ground as he missed. Hurt from his own maneuver, Ace now seemed to be barely hanging in there.

Meanwhile, Louie got another potion from his bag, but hesitated with a deep frown as he regarded the oncoming escavalier. Louie seemed rather conflicted, but finally with a scowl of self hatred, he hoisted the potion up and chucked it at the ground right in front of the pokemon; another flame potion, it burst like a molotov and splashed the pokemon with literally burning liquid. Now on fire, the escavalier shrieked out in a high pitch, and flailed his lances about; with the gravity potion still in effect though, the pokemon wasn't going anywhere anytime soon, and thus consigned to a painful death.

Louie then looked over, seeing the sableye jump onto Lil' Sunny's head, and have Lil' Sunny smack herself in the face with one of her bouquet-like hands.

Library, lobby

"Hmm? Oh, nothing you wouldn't have already seen there I think; I was just curious to see these sometime" Silvester said, holding the DvD case out in case Garrett wanted to look at it himself.

The Miss Tairee copy just nodded, and the other copy with the healing device just idly pointed her arm over towards Makoto and healed her up with the green beam nearly instantaneously. There was also shortly another blur as a solidly built metal swat shield and a can of Mad Bull energy drink appeared on the desk. "Will you be needing anything else?" the Miss Tairee copy there asked.

Meanwhile elsewhere in the lobby, the Miss Tairee copy near Ellen somewhat reluctantly answered the girl's questions, clearly not quite wanting to, but seeming to take it as a preferable alternative in the grand scheme of things. At Ellen's last question, the Miss Tairee copy shrugged. "Those 'cartoon' universes can have things run on very different rules than what you or I would expect. It could be that Spongebob or Patrick or both of them are simply very good mimicking various noises. Or it could be that their imagination actually holds some magical properties and the sounds were just an effect of such. Or maybe one of them had a device to play sounds with that wasn't obviously apparent in the episode.Or it could be that in that universe, sounds like that simply happen seemingly of their own accord under the right circumstances; that may be the most in line with those style of cartoon universes, after all" the Miss Tairee copy answered at length, glancing through her own screen at scrolling information. "The explanation of the sounds isn't really what's important in the context of things" the duplicate librarian added.

Library Lobby

"This should work well enough, thank you!" Makoto grabbed the shield and set it beside her, and then went for the Mad Bull. She grimaced slightly as she opened it, but steadied herself and drank the entire can. It still tasted like something that was meant for a car engine, but complaining wasn't going to replenish the energy she just burned. She picked up the riot shield and hoisted it over her shoulder before leaving the library.

Outside was...about as nice as it'd been a minute ago. Ben and Louie were still fighting that other pokemon user, and Rex was still missing. Makoto crushed the can and let it fall to the ground, and then touched her mask. Anat burned into existence and used Mediarama on Swishee, Cannonbolt, and Ace to heal some of their injuries. Makoto then aimed the grappling hook up at the Thunder Child and fired it at the edge of the ship, trying to pull herself up on the deck.

The streets

Cannonbolt felt his wounds beginning to heal from Makoto's healing spell. Since Cannonbolt was moving at high speed, he zipped right past Minior's Dazzling Gleam.

Cannonbolt ricocheted off of a nearby building, then bounced towards Minior, uncurling midway through his rolling charge and leaping into the air to try and strike at Minior again. All the while the bad poison was slowly eating away at his constitution.

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

Battle outside the library, it's the thought that counts

Ace stood back up, squawking confidently, and turned, then was hit with a torrent of water hard enough to hurl him several meters, knocked out severely. The tentacruel gave a curt gurgle before turning its attention to the rest of the battlefield. The minior watched Cannonbolt coming back, and shot another blob of psychic energy towards the alien, before trying to quickly zip aside and out of the way.

A short way off, Louie ran towards the two struggling pokemon. "Hey! Get off her!" Louie yelled, and though still a little reluctant, swung a punch at the sableye. The sableye gave a hiss before suddenly there was a poof, and Louie punched away the substitute doll instead, knocking it away fairly harmlessly. Louie frowned, but grabbed another one of his spray bottle potions from his vest. "Hang in th- ghah!" the trainer yelped as little ghostly flames hit him and set his clothes on fire, as the sableye glared at him from the sidelines.

Meanwhile, despite the Thunder Child having a slow drift to it, Makoto was able to get purchase with the grappling hook to pull herself up.

Ellen (Library) - Child See, Child Do

"I know," I replied with a nod. "The important thing was imagination."

It was a bit disappointing when I did the hand thing and one of those rain bows didn't happen like in the screen, but maybe that was one of things that only happened in the cartoon universes the woman had mentioned. Or maybe it was magic. Maybe the cat could let people do that, or make boxes noisy like that.

Speaking of the cat, he hadn't really said much aside from answering a question every now and then. Even now he was focused on the screen, staring at it in silence. I couldn't really tell whether or not he liked it, or if he found something interesting.

Well it didn't really matter. Thanks to that, I'd learned a lot about friendship and so many other things. Now all I needed was to find someone I could be friends with, and then... maybe...

Insert even louder grumbling stomach noises here

Right, I still hadn't eaten anything. I had to find some food first.

"You should probably go get some food outside," the black cat said out loud without taking its eyes off the screen. "Children die pretty quickly if they spend too long without eating."

The cat was right. That hadn't changed. Maybe I was less sick than before, or maybe I was even totally unsick, but I still needed to eat if I wanted to live. But first I needed to find food, and I had no idea where to even get it.

"But where do I find food?"

"Outside," he repeated. "I can take you to visit some shops if you want. I saw one with lots of pastries I'm sure you'll like. My treat."

"Isn't it dangerous out there?"

"Not as dangerous as starving to death in here."

It made sense. If I stayed inside, I could die. But if I went outside, I could get killed by something, like all those things that were out there yesterday killing people. I didn't really know what to do. What was worse? Starving until my body broke down, or getting my head torn open by some beast? I didn't really want to make that decision. I still had my knife, but would that be enough? Were there any other choices?

"Are you sure there's no food here?"

"I haven't seen any."

What was I supposed to do?
