Main thread link. Signup thread link.

Welcome to the discussion thread for the City of Lost Characters crossover RP! Posting off topic messages is allowed; this thread is to hopefully be a place where we can all have some fun and relax. THAT SAID, please don't go overboard with it; if an off topic subject starts to go any longer than a page, it's probably time to reel it in. If your discussion is with only one other player specifically, consider taking it to private messages.

Other than that just please continue to be mindful of the main forum rules and role playing forum rules.

Since you may find it helpful, here is a link to our recap page.

And because I want everyone to see it at least once, I'm linking this post here.

Another possibly helpful link: PCs' inventory google doc.

Plus, some just for fun links: Our trope page. The "official" soundtrack. My Honest review of the RP as of one year running. My cutting room floor post as of two years running. A height chart for some of the PCs and NPCs. And a players' choice of questions and writing prompts for our third year anniversary.

And special fun link, Korodzik's statistics link.

If you feel the need to contact me off of TV Tropes, I can be contacted on steam if searched for as "Firock1".note  If you try to add me I might ask you to post something random in the discussion thread to prove you are who you say you are, just in case. Also, we now have a Discord server, here.

Below is a number of hopefully useful materials.

Day 30, a new dawn

  • BREAK DAY RULE: It is absolutely impossible for anyone to get hurt. Anything that would cause even the slightest amount of harm or pain, including things like hunger or headaches, simply doesn't happen. The method of how it fails to happen can range from the simply unlikely to the outright physically impossible, but the important thing is that it fails, and it will never not fail; it is impossible to get around this rule no matter how indirectly you attempt to.
    • In addition to that, there is also a city wide blanket positive mental effect happening. It does not outright prevent sad emotions from happening, but it does help keep them at bay. It also makes everyone usually stay clear headed with their thoughts.

  • Characters are their usual selves. This includes an automatic undoing of anyone that was technically still mind controlled by evil Miss Tairee at the end of the previous day.
    • Everyone will find themselves waking up somewhere feeling like they just had a long and full rest.

  • The city is, on appearance, its usual self. However it is loaded with a lot more conveniences than usual.
    • Anyone who inherently, crucially is in need of something in order to have basic functionality, (IE, someone who lost their legs who needs a wheelchair) will find that what they need is conveniently at their disposal and available, wherever they wake up.
    • Not only is the food restocking still instant, but whenever you open a pantry or fridge or such, you'll be finding things that you'd want to eat.
    • The city shifting is now extremely biased to take you to where you want to go, or need to go; even if you don't actually know which place it is.

  • A gentle breeze blows through the city.

  • Anyone who had something they wanted, but would've lost due to city respawning, rules will now have that back.

  • As mentioned by Writer, all characters are now open to negotiate being returned to their home universe; whether that be at the moment they were originally taken so almost as if they never left, after the same amount of time has passed in that universe as they've been in the city, or negotiate being returned at a different time. Alternatively they can even negotiate being sent to a different universe rather than their own home.
    • Also as mentioned, all characters that took part in trying to take down the evil Miss Tairee, even just by a bit or by indirect help, will be granted a wish; even some characters that probably would have taken part but were for whatever reason unable to will probably be given one anyway. (So basically every player character, plus some NP Cs.) There is no set restriction to the wish, except that it must be accepted by Writer, Director, and Developer; they're willing to be very flexible to make the characters' desired outcome achievable in some way though.

Life in the city

UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED BY THE CURRENT DAY CONDITIONS ALL THE BELOW INFORMATION IS ASSUMED TRUE

Here are some minecraft reference screenshots to supplement the descriptions below!

  • The city is circular, sitting on top of what would, from beneath, look sort of like a giant, round shield made of concrete. It is approximately ten kilometers across, though the layout and positioning of everything in the city is constantly shifting when nobody is looking, making travel from one location to another less straight forward than it should be; sometimes you'll get lucky and other times you'll have to wander for a while. (In other words travel through the city moves at the speed of plot, or whatever is most convenient for OOC purposes at the time.) There are no street signs, not that they would be helpful anyway.
    • There are only two places that do not change position. The first being the large walkway around the edge, which has ten large, semicircle "balconies" that stick out a bit farther above the void, evenly spaced around the edge; being evenly spaced, that means they are ~3 kilometers apart from each other. On the inside, this walkway is separated from a road that runs beside it by a two foot tall incline; (the road is below the walkway) on the outside, the walkway is only separated from the void by a simple, two foot tall railing. UNLESS THE BALCONIES DO NOT CURRENTLY EXIST OR ARE INACCESSIBLE, THEY ARE WHERE NEW ARRIVALS SHOW UP.
    • The second place that never changes position is the large, circular library which is always at the exact center of the city. Lined with tinted glass windows and ten glass revolving doors, the library is only five stories tall but each floor measures a full ten feet in height, making the building a little over fifty feet tall. The first floor is all one large room; a lobby filled with chairs, tables, and sofas. In the center is a set of desks assigned to one 'Miss Tairee'. Each floor above the first has no center area to it, and have a view over the lobby and to the other floors over a railing; these floors are filled with large bookshelves, all lined with books. There are four sets of stairs and four elevators going up and down all the floors. Directly above the center area where the upper floors are open, that part of the roof is replaced with a large, glass dome, allowing light to come directly down into the center of the lobby.
      • On Miss Tairee's desks, there is: A suggestion box, with a stack of note paper and a pen chained to the desk. A stand of pamphlets which more or less include the same information as the "life in the city" section of this post does.note  And a plaque which reads, "There are no more rewards being given for completing the challenges of the days."
      • The library is organized based on how mundane the subject matter is. Second floor is stuff like user guides on machine operation, third floor is mostly stuff like books on science and history, fourth floor is stories like those most of your characters are from, and the fifth floor is (mundane) copies of books like the necronomicon and other (non) magical (copies of) tomes. The fourth floor does contain stories from your own characters' universes, but they are of alternate timelines where your characters spontaneously disappeared from existence when they went to the city, and never came back. The library also has free wifi and an accessible database of the books in it. There is also a special communications tower on the roof that allows devices such as cell phones to work in the city, but it only works to call other people in the city; it is impossible to communicate with any other universes.

  • The void that the city floats in is blue like a regular sky during the day, shifts to orange during the early morning and late evening, and turns dark at night; however, there is no sun or moon. Despite there being no sun or moon, light always seems to be coming down from straight above, which is both brighter and warm during the day. During the night, there are distant galaxies and stars visible in the sky.
    • There are however the occasional cloud drifting through the void. But they are not normal clouds; they are clouds of sheets of paper of varying types, all with random gibberish written all over them.
    • If you fall off the edge into the void, you get teleported back to a random spot in the city, without suffering the normal effects of long falls and sudden stops. It is NOT dying and respawning however, so any injuries you already had when you fell off will still be present. Everyone falling off the city is teleported individually to a random location, unless two or more people happen to be in physical contact while falling, in which case they teleport to the same place.
      • Speaking of death, whenever anyone dies their corpse disappears after a few moments, coinciding with their respawn somewhere else in the city. Holding onto someone's corpse when they disappear and respawn will not teleport you.

  • The city is populated with real people, also pulled from their home realities like your characters. Unless otherwise noted, these people are the equivalent of background extras of their universes, and while coming in all sorts of shapes and sizes are typically neither significant nor competent in combat. There seems to be about a thousand people or so in the whole city.
    • In terms of buildings, the city is the same as a modern city from real life; however due to the shuffling there is absolutely zero cohesion or sense to the placement of buildings relative to each other, such as seeing a tall office building next door to a suburban house.
    • The buildings are not buildings pulled from other universes; they are being created from nothing just for the city.
    • Every place that would logically have food, such as restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, and the pantries and fridges of houses, are all magically restocked constantly and instantly; you take something out of the shelf, there's already an identical duplicate taking its place. Except for sapient beings, souls, and anything that would provide significant powerups, this variety includes at least a little bit of everything considered to be food by someone across the multiverse; especially at the grocery store. (See below)

Notable locations

These are the various noteworthy locations in the city, though these buildings are among those that keep shifting around, so you'll never find them in the same place twice. These buildings are still subject to day rules, so may not necessarily fit the descriptions given below at all times.

  • Various NPC group headquarter buildings: See the NPC group section below.
  • Catgirls' diner: A small family owned style diner, claimed and operated by a quartet of different catgirls. Formerly part of the now-disbanded NHA group, it is still frequented by many of their former members.
  • Grocery store: A massive grocery store simply signed as "grocery store". Despite the sign it also has some items besides just groceries, such as clothes and toiletries. Being the largest source of food in the city, there is almost always a decent number of civvies coming in and out of the place.
  • The cinema: A large movie theater simply signed "cinema". Where one would expect a snack bar is instead a row of what are essentially Star Trek style replicators, though they will only make snack foods and beverages; they will not make full course meals or any other items. There are ten movie theaters, in the hall outside each of which is a computer screen where one can search for and select a movie to play in that theater; once a movie is selected, the computer will not accept any input until that movie has ended. Additionally, once any person has selected a movie on one computer, the other computers will not allow that same person to select movies until the one they chose is done playing. There is almost always some of the Fanboys hanging out here, enjoying snacks from the replicators and watching movies and shows in the theaters.
  • The radio station: A rather small building with a short transmission tower on top. Theoretically capable of broadcasting both a radio station and a television channel. The two guys in it now cast news along with music on channel 94, and receive incoming messages to use for relevant news on channel 93.
  • Universe Buffet: An all you can eat buffet that restocks and cleans itself instantly while it's being used, shaped like a glass dome with the serving counters along the edge, bathrooms in the very center, and the seating area taking up the space in between.
  • The prison: A large, almost fortress-like structure, with big walls and guard towers surrounding a main complex and courtyard area. While on the premesis, nobody is capable of harming themselves directly or indirectly; however, break day rules are not in effect, so they may still harm others. The militia is utilizing the structure for both its intended purpose, and as their headquarters.
  • The hospital: A large, almost cube-shaped building with various treatment rooms, patient rooms, rooms for surgery, rooms for x-rays and other medical tests, a functional, high tech lab, a spiritual meditation room with magical wards, and a stocked pharmacy that, like places with food, restocks at the beginning of every day unless otherwise specified. Currently headed by a Shadowrun troll named Dave, with the help of some various medically inclined volunteers.
  • The arcade: A decently sized, one story building that is part arcade, part hobbies and games shop. There are loads of arcade cabinets on one side, primarily classics, but there are a few generic 'blank' cabinets that wait for a user to input a game title, then will transform into a cabinet for that game until the user is done with them. On the other side, shelves of board games, card games, tabletop games, and such, where as long as you're at the right category of shelf you'll seemingly find the thing you're hoping to find eventually, even if it definitely wasn't there before. There are plain tables, pool tables, tables with bins of 'terrain' bits to use, and one extra special table that will animate any miniatures put on it, and have them actually act out their turns.

Notable NPC groups

  • The Militia, or The Police: A "gang" trying to establish at least some semblance of law and order in the city, to hopefully keep it from being a place where anyone could get murdered/robbed/etc. at any moment. Their symbol is a blue, five pointed star. Their headquarters is the prison. Their leadier is Lieutenant Wells, a futuristic Redcoat soldier. Their theme. Lieutenant Wells' theme.
    • Player character members: None.
  • The Fanboys: A collection of various geeks and hobbyists who have decided to enjoy the multiversal nature of the city, in particular the nature of how everything they thought to be fiction is real out there somewhere. They've adopted a pacifist approach, to avoid arguments among themselves getting out of hand, and because they feel their place is to be observers, not participants; they are however, for the most part, very genre savvy. Their symbol is a stylized green hand giving a thumbs up.They do not have an official headquarters, but can be commonly found in the cinema. They do not have an official leader either. Their theme.
    • Player character members: None.
  • The Church of Literacy: A group of people who have taken to worshipping the god who made the city, Miss Tairee's boss, and seek his favor. Which currently means trying to ensure that something interesting is always going on, and that they're not being dull. Their symbol is unknown. Their headquarters is unknown. Their leader is Pastor Daniel, a fairly plain human man. Their theme.
    • Player character members: None.
  • Chandler's Gunmen: A splinter group of the Church of Literacy, who now believe that they way to seek favor is to side against the other residents of the city and try to keep them from completing the challenges. Also that the god clearly desires violence, and thus they seek to keep the city from getting too calm and peaceful. Their headquarters is unknown. Their leader is unknown. Their theme.
    • Player character members: None.
  • Home Sweet Home: A gang of individuals staking claim on and fortifying a large hotel building, who claim to be willing to let anyone stay and be protected in exchange for doing various chores. Their symbol is unknown. Their headquarters is the hotel building they're fortifying, with their gang name emblazoned above the entrance. Their leader is a Terrarian named Blue. Their theme. Blue's theme.
    • Player character members: None.

Obvious that I'm new here (still can't get my phone to chose an avatar) so...from what I've seen of the TV Tropes forums, are our RP posts are gonna be in script form? Or something like it? XP

Yes, I do. It was driven eveb further when I saw my friend wrote a chapter so long, it made it difficult for people to enjoy reading (except for me, apparently. Seems I can marathon read if I wanted to).

Yeah. But I kind of come from a Pokémon forum where posts can be as long as chapters from a book and it's been a while since I've been in a large RP where the posts aren't that long.

So one of the Royal Guards that serves under Undyne is reptilian. She'll probably wonder why Aeon Calcos is out of armor.

Also she'll probably wind up being besties with Steven since he's basically a more talkative version of the Undertale pacifist!protagonist.

I could see Morty and Steven becoming good friends, since they're both impressionable, good-natured, fairly normal kids who regularly get embroiled in extraterrestrial shenanigans.

Steven becoming friends with Rick on the other hand... let's just say that if Steven thought becoming friends with Lars was tough...

Ashe would think everybody's weird. Even if Morty's pretty normal, she'd be suspicious of Rick. XD And Viktor. She hasn't exactly had a good time with people obsessed with science and the furthering evolution of humanity.

She'd think she's gone mad for a little bit and try to find a way out of this world until she realizes there isn't any. XP

So let's see, I'm trying to get some of the ahead of time planning done.

What do you guys think of having the break days be scheduled for every fifth day? (So days 05, 10, 15, 20, and 25.)

For those who weren't in the MMFRPG or need a reminder, the break days are the days where combat is impossible and nobody can harm each other, on top of whatever other conditions may be happening.

Would Steven using his shield count as a weapon, so he wouldn't be able to summon it on break days?

FirockFinion THE SLORG! from The Red Desert Relationship Status: Wishfully thinking
THE SLORG!
Oct 15th 2015 at 8:06:25 PM

That might depend on the exact rules of the break day. (I'm not going to have them just be "combat is impossible.") But in general, no; characters can still do and use everything they normally can during a break day unless otherwise noted, it's just impossible to do so in any way that would harm another person.

Steven could summon his shield, but he couldn't throw the shield at someone Captain America style without it completely missing or mysteriously disappearing before hitting or just straight up stopping in mid air.

Ah, good to know. Though I guess if combat is impossible there shouldn't be any need for his shield so my question was pointless in the long run...?

Also, should make a note that it's not exactly like Captain America in that it's not a boomerang. One throw and it just flies off, prolly poofing out of existence after a bit.
