@Light To All: Alright, looks good to me.

Reinhardt Wilhelm is accepted.

I'm not sure how much you've kept up with what's currently going on in the RP, but if you haven't, it probably wouldn't hurt to recap the last few pages of the main thread first to see what's happening.

Also, since the Halloween hiatus is literally going to start tonight in a few hours, and end on Wednesday, it would probably be simpler on you if you waited until then to jump back in.

Ah hell, why not. For now it's a tentative signup, so I can juggle this guy, Two and Shenhua around.

  • Story: Borderlands The Pre Sequel
  • Name: "Jack". Real name Timothy Lawrence. (he's legally forbidden from using it as a part of his contract and has been unpersoned as a person)
  • Age/Gender/Race: Undisclosed; male, human.
  • Appearance: "And the world just got 25% more handsome!" (with Digi-Jacks) Got some heterochromia going on too (one eye blue, another green).
  • Personality: The man that the original Jack should have been, by all means. While he's kind of a coward - being a student with no prior combat training - and has grown really frickin' miserable over the course of his job as Jack's body double - since his boss turned out to be kinda unhinged - Timothy's heart is in the right place, perhaps because he isn't a born Vault Hunter, but simply an ordinary man given an inordinary facelift and even stranger tools to work with. The one thing his new mug is good for is flirting with ladies, at least. Otherwise, he is doing his best to be Jack - an overenthusiastic, eager, ambitious and slightly unhinged code monkey that dreams of being a hero; except without the whole "goes bugfuck crazy and deluded" thing.
  • Backstory: Jack (real name John) was a low-rank programmer in Hyperion Corporation with a thing for heroism and big, morally questionable plans on achieving this heroism. Timothy Lawrence was a poor-as-dirt nerd actor with massive student loans. Thus the creation of Jack's body double. Timothy Lawrence, by all accounts, never existed. This job - having to impersonate his boss for at least 20 years (spoiler alert: the surgical procedures could not be altered anyway) - proved to be a poor way to rid yourself off student debts: being forced by the contract to commit some... really bad things, watching his boss slowly lose it, coming to a realization that a lot of people will be gunning for him now that his boss has finally lost it... Truly, The City might just be the thing Timothy Lawrence Jack needs to get out of his funk...
  • Skills/Powers/Abilities:
    • Body Double - Physically and voice-wise, this man is a perfect replica of his boss. Someone who was truly familiar with the latter would be able to tell the differences, but if you haven't seen him in person, you would be surprised.
    • Digi-Jacks - Using a rechargable thingamabob wristwatch, Jack can summon two Digi-Jacks; these are immobile and attack via blasts of energy, be they wrist-mounted lasers or exploding energy clusters. Despite their look they are by all means physical and can deliver a nasty punch or a kick. If one is destroyed, another shows up in his place, but once the timer runs out they disappear and have to recharge until Jack can use them again.
    • Gun Training - Despite his non-violent background, he can handle ordinary firearms just fine - something that comes both from experience and a desperate desire not to die - preferring sleek and simple guns like pistols and SMG's. He also has some experience with laser guns and grenades.
  • Items:
    • Weapons - A Hyperion SMG (Model: Proactive Transmurdera) and a Hyperion Repeater Pistol (Model: Core Leverage). Hyperion guns feature a rule of "inverse recoil": they get more accurate the longer you hold the trigger.
    • An ECHO device to communicate over long distances. Can most likely be attuned to more mundane wavelengths with just a few clicks.
    • A personal Shield - a device that absorbs blows from enemies by projecting a faint shimmer around the person. Jack's isn't particularly powerful, but it can take a few shots before he's forced to tank them with his handsome physique. The shields recharge if the user was not damaged for a time.
  • Other:
    • Acrophobic (fear of heights)
    • Has a bomb in his face. Largely one of the reasons why surgical remake is impossible.

@Fergard Stratoavis: I actually own though have not yet played the Borderlands Pre-Sequel; I know that none of my friends have either, but thankfully there was a simple character trope entry to look through. It seems that your sheet is accurate, save for possibly one detail; the trope entry suggested that the bomb in Timothy's face might actually not exist, and that he was possibly just lied to when they told him that. But other than that, it seems fine to me.

"Jack" AKA Timothy Lawrence is accepted.

Eyyy, guess who's back

Now that marching season is (technically) over, I can dedicate more time to stuff like this

Let's hope I stick around enough to enjoy it >>

Story: Skullgirls

Name: Sienna “Squigly” Contiello (& Leviathan)

Age, gender, and species: 28 (14 when she died), female, undead human (for Leviathan: unknown, male, Parasite)

Appearance Mezzo Soprano. It's not very visible, but if you look hard enough you can see bits of her that rotted away, notably her left eye and her entire left arm. She also has a hole in her head caused by a gunshot that Leviathan comes out of.

Personality: Squigly’s personality might be a little outdated—she's calm, well-mannered, sophisticated (except with Leviathan), and wise beyond her age. Despite the tragedy, she’s kind and considerate, too, allowing others to speak and act for themselves, instead of relying on what others say. She has a love for tradition and culture, and dislikes anything considered “uncivilized”. Also, if her official “likes” list is anything to go by, she's a pretty big eater.

Leviathan is just as refined and intelligent as Squigly, maybe even more so, but he shows signs of uncharacteristic viciousness that most Parasites share. While he’ll go with Squigly no matter what she does, he's not above making snide remarks and comments about people he doesn't like under his breath.

Backstory: Squigly was a member of the Contiello’s, a family of famous opera singers that have served the powerful Medici family for decades. But one day, the Medici’s suddenly turned on the Contiello’s. Squigly, like the rest of her family, was killed by an assassin named Black Dahlia, hired by the head of the Medici mafia, Lorenzo. Her mother was the only survivor, and she used the Skull Heart, an ancient artifact that can grant any wish, to bring her family back. However, there was a cost; she was transformed into a monster known as the Skullgirl, and the dead she wished to revive were brought back as her mindless, undead army. Once it was over, only Squigly’s body was found. She was given a dignified funeral, paid for by Lorenzo Medici himself. He sewed up her mouth and she was put to rest.

Fast forward to 14 years later: a new Skullgirl has arisen, and the dead rise up again to support her reign of terror. Except Squigly. Thanks to the power of her Parasite, Leviathan, who has been passed down through the Contiello family for generations, she retained her sentience and can resist the Skullgirl’s influence. Now, blessed with another life, she only has one goal: get revenge on those who would silence her.

Skills/powers/abilities: Squigly and Leviathan work together in harmony to create a fighter that strikes hard, but slow. Squigly can use Leviathan’s sharp tail and fire as a weapon, or use it to power up her own attacks.

  • Battle Opera: Squigly and Leviathan sing in perfect harmony, producing a large, spherical music note that moves forward a set distance, hangs out for about a second, then disappears.
Leviathan himself is somewhat different than the other Parasites in the game. He usually takes on a small, skeletal, serpentine form, but has minor shapeshifting abilities that can grant him wings and claws. He can also breathe fire, as mentioned above, but only for a short distance.

Items: N/A

Other: Even though Squigly's mouth is sewn shut, she can open it with enough force, though that usually only happens when she's in pain. She speaks by manipulating the air in front of her mouth, giving her voice a kind of reverb effect. Its also worth noting that without Leviathan, Squigly would just be a corpse, and without Squigly, Leviathan can't survive at all. If one dies, the other dies with them.

@Pro Trash: As with the last Skullgirls' character signup, I haven't played the game and to the best of my knowledge none of my friends have either. I will have to check Squigly's character tropes, probably later tonight.

But in the meantime, things to note that I don't need to know the character for:

You didn't include Items or Other in your sheet.

Like others have, you seem to have just tried to directly translate her moves from the game, even in instances where they just don't make sense or don't work in the RP context. How does battle opera "pin down" a target? And shun goku saltsu's mechanic is just arbitrary here.

Also daisy pusher just straight up doesn't fit without reality warping, which you're not allowed to have. (Not to mention that there's plenty of targets in the RP it absolutely shouldn't work on regardless.)

Well, that can be fixed pretty easily:

I accidentally cut off the "Items" and "Other" sections when copying the sheet, and I just forgot to include them again, since there isn't anything to put in there. Regardless, I've added them back in.

In hindsight, I probably could've reworded Battle Opera's description better. It basically functions as a projectile that moves a set distance forward, holds still for about a second, then disappears. I'm not sure what I meant when I said "pin down".

As for Shun Goku Saltsu, I figured it wouldn't be hard to translate it into a written environment, but now I realize I could essentially recreate the move with Leviathan's fire powers instead of using the actual move, if that makes any sense. It, along with Daisy Pusher and Inferno of Leviathan, have been discarded.

I could essentially recreate the move with Leviathan's fire powers instead of using the actual move, if that makes any sense

That's exactly what I meant by it being arbitrary. Other than possible in-character calling of the attack, there's no reason for it to be a "move" in the RP; since the RP just doesn't have that kind of mechanics.

Anyway, I have read through Squigly's trope entry, and while there is nothing really outright wrong in your sheet, there is a number of things that could certainly stand to be mentioned and/or clarified in your sheet.

For something that isn't really brought up in your sheet and isn't made clear by the images you linked, there's the fact that Squigly is still very much so a corpse; she just keeps the parts of her that are rotting away hidden. Her left eye is missing, hidden by her hair, and her left arm is rotted away to only the bones remaining, hidden by her detached sleeves. (I'm unclear if her hand is still fine or if she's wearing a glove to cover that up.) She has a hole in her head, which is apparently where Leviathan resides when he's not out; it seems to be hidden where her other pigtail would normally be, which she might be able to have stuck in there until Leviathan forces it out while exiting, apparently.

Speaking of Leviathan, your sheet doesn't really make it entirely clear what Leviathan is and what he does, other than have a sharp tail and "blazing fire". It should probably be elaborated in the skills that he is a small, skeleton, snake/dragon thing with limited shapeshifting that can breathe short range fire. Also perhaps mentioning in the back story that he was given to Squigly by her father to save her from becoming a mindless zombie.

Also, Squigly's mouth is sewn shut; though it seems she can force it open if trying hard enough, according to Word of God her normal method of "speaking" involves using her powers to reverberate the air directly in front of her face, without really opening her mouth. The same reverb also causes her to have a bit of Voice of the Legion going on.

And lastly though less important, her full name is Sienna Quinton CiShan Contiello. Apparently the middle names might've been post-production retcons.

Alright, seems good. Just one last thing I forgot; Squigly seems to have a small playful streak of sorts? If her movement where she briefly uses Leviathan as a jump rope is any indication. Other than that, the sheet seems alright.

Sienna “Squigly” Contiello and Leviathan are accepted.

You should certainly check through the first post of the discussion thread again, to see what's been changed since you were last here and see the current day rules. Well, here goes nothing.

  • Story: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel(Right before the beginning of the second game)
  • Name: Rean Schwarzer
  • Age, gender, and species: 17-year old Human Male
  • Appearance: boom. (not shown: a somewhat-prominent scar near his heart)
  • Personality: (some of this is directly from the Trails wiki, rest is paraphrased from there as well)
    • Kind, sociable, easygoing and a modest to a fault, Rean is about as upright as they come. He is incredibly supportive, often helping people (friends or otherwise) with their various problems, often going through extreme lengths to fulfill requests. He is a natural born leader, often taking the initiative when the group faces a problem, relying on his good instincts and deductive reasoning skills to get through them. His hard working tendencies also extend to his schoolwork, so while he's not the smartest person out there, he's not dumb by any stretch. He is rather competitive, and focuses a lot on improving himself. This lead to him taking an interest in a lot of small hobbies, like cooking and fishing.
    • Despite putting on a confident front, Rean has...Issues. His self worth is terribly low, thanks to a mix of guilt over his adopted family's peers not taking well to his adoption, and guilt over what happened the day his powers awoke. As a result, he frequently puts others before himself, even to his own detriment. The last thing he wants is to bring undue harm to people, and would rather be the first to die than have someone else be sacrificed. His friends and mentor have tried to get him to cut this out, so at least he's aware of it. That said, his time at Thors pointed him in the right direction to becoming truly confident- but recent events (as in, right before he wound up in the City) have given him yet another thing to feel guilty over.
  • Backstory:
    • Adopted into the Schwarzer barony at the age of 5, Rean grew up with loving parents and a devoted sister. Due to the unknown circumstances of his abandonment though, the other nobles of Erebonia looked down on his family for adopting some random common born foundling.
    • When he was 9, Rean and his sister Elise were out in the woods when they were attacked by a bear-like monster. The beast threatened both their lives, and in self defense, Rean's inner power activated for the first time. Lost in his rage, he absolutely massacred the beast. Once he snapped out of it, the realization that he could do this to anyone if he lost it again caused him to fear that part of himself for years.
    • Once he was 17, a desire to find out what his purpose in life was led to Rean choose to attend Thors Military Academy.
    • As luck would have it, he was placed in Class VII - a smaller than normal class that broke tradition by mixing commoners and nobles.
    • Despite some rough patches in the beginning, the group eventually became very tight knit over the 8 months they worked with one another.
    • In September, the group encountered a mysterious realm sealed within an old school building on the campus. Sensing that this was something they were meant to face, Rean rallied his friends together and challenged the strange being inside. Once the trial was completed, a strange machine appeared, a piece of technology no one present had seen before.
    • But a week later, things would turn for the worse for Class VII. A terrorist organization known as the Imperial Liberation Front - a group that they had run into time and time again - made themselves fully known to the world. Their leader revealed himself to be an older classmate of Rean's, who then proceeded to assassinate the country's Chancellor, instigating a civil war.
    • Not even minutes after the death of the chancellor, the ILF then attacked the Thors campus, as well the small village it was attached to.
    • Once again, Rean rallied his friends together to help protect the school.
    • Unfortunately, the enemy had new technology that outclassed the young students in terms of power.
    • It was then that the machine Class VII found a week earlier asked Rean a question: "Dost thou desire the power?"
    • Forging a contract with it, Rean became the pilot - or "Awakener" - of Valimar, the Ashen Divine Knight.
    • At first things seemed to be going well- Rean defeated the enemy machines with ease. Unfortunately, the ILF's leader showed up in his own Divine Knight, defeating Rean using his years of experience with it.
    • In order to ensure Rean's safety, Valimar was ordered to fly as far away as possible - completely against Rean's wishes. The rest of Class VII planned to buy time for him to escape.
    • And so with despair filled protests from Rean and tearful promises to meet again from Class VII, Valimar took to the sky.
    • Valimar eventually landed in the northernmost mountains, and used the last of his mana to heal his Awakener. This left Rean in stasis for about a month. Unfortunately, before he could wake up, Rean was whisked away by some unknown force...
  • Skills/powers/abilities:
    • Rean is trained in the Eight Leaves, One Blade sword style, and while he's only at the intermediate level, he's still got some decent experience in combat. Some moves he knows are:
      • Autumn Leaf Cutter: Slashes clustered together foes many times while dashing by them.
      • Arc Slash : Shoots an arc shaped shockwave in a straight line.
      • Gale: Quickly moves to hit multiple enemies in a 3 - meter radius one after the other.
      • Flame Impact: A powerful downward slash performed with a flaming blade..
      • Azure Flame Slash: Rean's S-Craft. Sort of like a combination of Autumn Leaf Cutter and Flame Impact, Rean ignites his sword with blue flames and slashes enemies.
    • He also knows some of the Eight Leaves style's unarmed techniques, to the point where he claims his master "drilled them into his head so hard he could do them in his sleep."
    • As part of the above training, Rean also learned how to sense where living things are around him. The radius is about the size of a small building.
    • "Ogre Power": Not actually called that yet at the point in the story Rean's from, but whatever. Whenever Rean loses himself to his anger (Pretty much only tripped by people he cares about being in mortal danger- like -"I'm bleeding on the floor dying" mortal danger) a beast like instinct triggers in him. His hair turns white, his eyes turn red and he gains a dark aura. This also amplifies his physical abilities and durability to a low level supernatural extent. This does not make him invincible by any stretch - An opponent with better skill or significantly supernatural levels of strength can still knock him flat on his ass. Needless to say, he will not be one shotting bosses or anything with this. Normally, he can enter this form willingly, but after entering the City, he can't. Not that he liked doing so to begin with, but still.
  • Items:
    • A katana-type sword known as a Tachi. The one in his character image.
    • ARCUS Combat Orbment: A device that allows the user to cast magic spells known as Arts. What spells can be used are based on gemstones slotted into it known as Quartz. It also has basic telephone functionality, and a feature known as combat linking.note
      • Current Spell list:
      • Fire Bolt: Fires a fireball.
      • Soul Blur: Attacks the target with a pulse of dark energy.
      • Tear: Heals the target for a slight amount.
  • Other: I mentioned a Mech in the Backstory - that's not coming into the City, unless I'm given permission to, and it'll be later if I am. Valimar is basically a character on his own, so.

@stargirl93: I have not heard of this series before; I don't think my friends have either, but I'll be checking with them later. If not, I'll have to read through Rean's character tropes, which seems to be a very large entry so that will take me some time, and I might not be able to do right now because I may have to leave very soon.

Regardless, even without knowing about the character there are a couple things to note on in the meantime. Your description of the gale move, especially "hit multiple enemies in a medium sized area" doesn't really mean much without context. How many is multiple? What is a medium sized area? Also the general way you describe it seems like you're still adhering to the arbitrary turn based video game mechanics, which don't really fit well with the RP.

My main concern though is the ogre power. In general, I do not like the idea of a player being able to decide "alright my character is way more powerful now" just arbitrarily. Of the other characters who have a similar gimmick, (Ben Tennyson, the various magical girls) that kind of sudden powering up is their main shtick and method of combat in the first place; they basically cannot fight otherwise. This guy, from your description of him, goes from being a competent fighter to a nigh-unstoppable fighter, and can do this whenever just because he decides to.

@stargirl93: Alright, after the edits the ogre power seems fine now. I have just finished binging through Rean's massive character trope entry, and while your sheet is certainly not inaccurate, I did find a number of things that seem like they should have been included in your sheet. The only thing that did seem inaccurate was that, in the trope page, the ogre power seems to occasionally be called "spirit unification"? It was weird though; some trope entries suggested that this was actually a different thing, but many spoke about them as if they were interchangeable, or just one and the same.

But first, the last bit of balance concern is now with the gale move: Your description didn't make it clear and I didn't realize until reading the tropes that this functions as a Flash Step, which would be too fast for just about any other character to actually do anything to avoid or block. So that aspect should be toned down; perhaps your choice of wording was an intention to do just that?

Now, as for stuff that's missing, granted that the tropes didn't always make it clear which game this applied to, this is what I found, listed from what I see as most important to least important: Rean doesn't like to kill. Rean has a hyper awareness that borders on supernatural, and straight up is supernatural in some context. He is skilled at counter attacking people who miss him with a melee attack. He has an unarmed fighting style called the mute form. Based on achievements for collecting books and that he becomes a teacher in the third game, he's got quite the book smarts. He apparently knows how to forge weapons, though possibly not until the third game. And some of this other skills include snowboarding, making green tea, playing the lute, fishing, ballroom dancing, and being a decent though not amazing cook.

>Spirit Unification

That’s the name of the in game buff it becomes during the second game, after he learns how to actually control it. I wasn’t intending on letting that happen but it just occurred to me that he might go through the same character development that let that happen in the city...

>which would be too fast for just about any other character to actually do anything to avoid or block. So that aspect should be toned down;

...Oh. Yeah, i’ll fix that.

>Now, as for stuff that's missing, granted that the tropes didn't always make it clear which game this applied to, this is what I found, listed from what I see as most important to least important: Rean doesn't like to kill.

Right. I should have mentioned that and I’m kind of dense for not recognizing that. Fixing.

>Rean has a hyper awareness that borders on supernatural,

Cut because it breaks the RP rules.

> and straight up is supernatural in some context.

That was the Ogre form stuff which I’ve been trying to tone down but I may just straight up cut it if it becomes too much of a hassle. I’m not actually sure what the hell is going on with his birth father, Osborne, being human or not. The statement that brought on the divergent being stuff was a lot vaguer than Rean’s character page implies, I’ve heard. It was along the lines of "Shooting him won't kill him because he's no longer human." Which could mean that he was always that way, or absorbed something he shouldn't have at some point. My understanding of it so far is that Rean himself is in fact human, but as the game puts it has something 'mixed' into him that's not.

>He is skilled at counter attacking people who miss him with a melee attack.

Game mechanic that applies to everyone, won’t be a thing here.

>He has an unarmed fighting style called the mute form. Mute form is unarmed 8 leaves that actually doesn't get talked about a lot. Should probably put that on the sheet.

>Based on achievements for collecting books and that he becomes a teacher in the third game, he's got quite the book smarts.

Yes. Adding to the sheet.

>He apparently knows how to forge weapons, though possibly not until the third game.

...What? -checks- Oh. OH. Yeah Valimar’s sword is not forged by him. He collected the materials but the sword itself is made by a friend and the resident mad scientist working together.

Unless you mean the sword that gets made after Millium sacrifices herself. that is not a traditionally forged weapon. It's more like the X-blade than it is a normal sword. That is not happening in this RP because the circumstances that happened in are super specific, and requires well, the spoiler to happen. It's also a third game thing, yes.

>And some of this other skills include snowboarding, making green tea, playing the lute, fishing, ballroom dancing, and being a decent though not amazing cook.

Yeah, as much as I like him Rean definitely has protagonist syndrome and I was hoping to turn that stuff down. That said, it does kind of make sense that he’s learned a lot of things by 17.

Also, question. There are some backstory elements that show up in the second and third game, so despite this Rean being from before the second game even starts, should I mentioned these things anyway?

Cut because it breaks the RP rules.

I mean, having it be something like, "it is absolutely impossible to sneak up on or surprise attack him" would be against the rules, yes. But just being generally more aware of his surroundings than normal people wouldn't be against the rules.

My understanding of it so far is that Rean himself is in fact human, but as the game puts it has something 'mixed' into him that's not.

That would presumably be his dad's transplanted heart, yes.

Game mechanic that applies to everyone, won’t be a thing here.

Ah. If you don't want to include it I suppose that's fine. It would've been against the rules if you had acted like it was a guaranteed thing that couldn't miss; otherwise I figured something like "is skilled at counter attacking those who miss him in melee range" wouldn't be against the rules to mention.

that is not a traditionally forged weapon

Ah, that wasn't made clear in the character tropes. My mistake.

Yeah, as much as I like him Rean definitely has protagonist syndrome and I was hoping to turn that stuff down.

Wanting to tone down your own character is commendable, but I'm not really sure why you'd extend that to cutting out his odd skills. For one, the RP may have a combat focus, but it's not entirely about combat; there are even days where you effectively cannot fight at all, so it's just about the character interaction then. So mentioning other things he's known to be able to do for whenever they might be relevant in character interaction is something I would say your sheet should have. For two, as far as like, balance and fairness is concerned, especially with combat, it would have to be some very specific and fringe scenarios for any of those skills to actually help him out. Knowing a lot of things is not against the rules.

Also, question. There are some backstory elements that show up in the second and third game, so despite this Rean being from before the second game even starts, should I mentioned these things anyway?

If they are relevant to understanding who he is as a character from the perspective of someone who doesn't know anything about him reading just your character sheet for the first time, yes.

I mean, having it be something like, "it is absolutely impossible to sneak up on or surprise attack him" would be against the rules, yes. But just being generally more aware of his surroundings than normal people wouldn't be against the rules.

Oh really? Ok.

That would presumably be [[spoiler]], yes.

You got it.

Wanting to tone down your own character is commendable, but I'm not really sure why you'd extend that to cutting out his odd skills. For one, the RP may have a combat focus, but it's not entirely about combat; there are even days where you effectively cannot fight at all, so it's just about the character interaction then. Right, of course it's not. >.>;

I get that the RP's about character interaction, don't worry. I guess I was so focused on "Don't get rejected" I made a bunch of mistakes and assumptions about what you were trying to say there, so I thought this was about something else. But I get it this time.

@stargirl93: I would've preferred his odd skills be mentioned in skills, not personality, but it looks okay now.

Rean Schwarzer is accepted.

Given we are fairly close to the end of Day 19, it would probably be simpler for you if you waited until the start of Day 20 to jump in. Whether you wait or not, you should check out the first post of the main thread to see what Rean's entry to the city should be like. Also check out the first post of the discussion thread, for stuff such as a description of what the city is like, current day rules, and other information like that. If you do want to jump in before Day 20, then you should also recap the last few pages or so of the main thread first, so you have at least some idea of what's currently going on.

Wowee, it's been a long time since I've been in one of these, huh? College does funny things to a man's schedule.

Well, anywho, I know it's been a long while, but I figured that I might take a crack at this again! I've got an itch for constant roleplaying and writing that my biweekly Pathfinder games can't scratch all the time.

  • Story: Overwatch (After the fall, during the nebulous warscape the main game takes place in)

  • Name: Angela Ziegler, callsign Mercy.

  • Age, gender, and species: 37, Female, Human.

  • Appearance: An angelic, stoic-looking woman. Stands at 5'7". The wings on the back of her VALKYRIE suit are not, as the picture might depict, always lit up; they only do that when she activates them for flight.

  • Personality: To most, Mercy is an at-worst stern, mostly sarcastic matronly figure, proffering words of wisdom to those who ask/require them and expressing an impressive amount of empathy for those down on their luck. She employs her exceptional intelligence to assess medical situations and provide morale boosts for her allies around her. She places herself before all others, often putting herself in direct danger to get even a chance at providing aid to someone else. Her strongest convictions lie in her own perceptions of war and peace; she is, as her lore page charitably puts it, a "staunch advocate for peace," to the point that she, without hesitation, has clashed with her superiors and her closest allies if they step over a line. She prefers settling conflicts with diplomacy and discussion rather than fire and fury, though she's more than willing to bring a bit of her own hurt to a battle if it's absolutely necessary.

  • Back story: Mercy, like many heroes in Overwatch's version of Earth, was exceptional from a very young age; when she lost both of her parents to war, she dedicated herself to her studies, specifically in neurology, going on to earn her MD and Ph.D while she studied in Switzerland. For many of her younger years, Mercy served as an extremely influential surgeon, developing some prototypes of the biomedical technology she is known for today. And, as one might expect, Mercy worked for her universe's titular organization, Overwatch, for many years before it was disbanded and destroyed. She served as one of its lead scientists, perfecting the biomedical technology she had been working on before, creating the basis for what would later become both her Caduceus Staff, Soldier: 76's Biotic Field, and Ana Amari's Biotic Rifle.. The aforementioned closest allies that she has clashed with in the past came from here, of course; some of her comrades thought that Mercy's biotech could be put to a more militaristic use instead, and Mercy balked. These differences in ideology eventually led to the disbanding of Overwatch as a whole...along with the destruction of the main Overwatch base by an as-of-yet unknown terrorist group. Since the fall of Overwatch, Mercy has been traveling the world and providing as much medical assistance and doing as much research into the development of improved biotech as she can, trying to, at least in some way, right some of the wrongs that her own hands and ideas have brought into this world.

  • Skills/powers/abilities: Most of Mercy's abilities come from the VALKYRIE suit that she wears into battle, as well as her various pieces of equipment.
    • Regeneration: Outside of combat, the in-built nanobiotics scattered throughout the VALKYRIE suit switch on, slowly repairing any wounds that Mercy may have received. This automatically shuts down if the suit detects hostile forces or damage being done to Mercy; if the nanobiotics tried to repair Mercy's cellular structure as it was being destroyed, there could be disastrous consequences.
    • Guardian Angel: Mercy can target someone that she has designated as an ally with her VALKYRIE suit and, with a push of a button, can trigger a brief but powerful boost from the VALKYRIE suit's wings, sending her flying straight towards said designated ally.
    • Angelic Descent: The wings on the back of Mercy's suit also allow her to slow her descent when falling, preventing any damage.
    • Healing/Damage Boost: Mercy's Caduceus Staff can tether a beam of nanobiotic energy to a target of Mercy's choosing, endowing them with either cellular regeneration (healing) or endorphins to induce an adrenaline reaction, assisting with the target's focus and improving their effectiveness in a fight (damage boost).
    • Biotic Effectiveness Regulation: VALKYRIE: Once an in-game day, Mercy can overcharge her VALKYRIE suit, empowering all of her abilities for a decent amount of time. Her healing/damage boost beams tether to entire groups of allies rather than just one, her Guardian Angel takes her to her target much faster, and the wings on the back of her suit emit such a force that Mercy can actually fly around freely, rather than in the stratified way that Guardian Angel allows her to. Due to the massive amount of energy the suit gives off during this period, Mercy's pistol becomes supercharged, granting it infinite ammo and a faster projectile speed while the suit is empowered.

  • Items:
    • VALKYRIE Suit: The epitome of nanobiotic technology condensed into a single piece of military clothing.
    • Caduceus Staff: The source of Mercy's Healing/Damage Boost beams.
    • Caduceus Blaster: A military-grade energy pistol that holds 20 rounds and fires at a nominal rate...and puts out a surprising amount of damage.

  • Other: I went ahead and cut Mercy's Resurrect ability from both her regular form and her Valkyrie form, since I'm not entirely sure how that would work in a game where everyone respawns nigh-immediately. If you have any ideas, I'd be down to hear them, since Resurrect is pretty cool!

@Chilifro: Well, good to have you back. Sadly I don't seem to have contact with my friend who knows Overwatch anymore, but though I haven't actually played it myself, I've seen most of the promotional videos they released and have a general idea of the world and characters; plus I did read through her character tropes entry to be sure, though it wasn't terribly big. The sheet seems fairly accurate, though there's a bit of her back story missing. (Her being a child prodigy and working as a surgeon for a while before joining Overwatch.)

Also you forgot that her using the Valkyrie ultimate gives her energy pistol a bottomless magazine for the duration, and faster projectile speed.

As for her resurrection, no there isn't really any way for that to fit in the RP, sorry.

Alright, I edited those in, for posterity's sake.

Yeah, I figured her Rez wouldn't really be able to make it in, unfortunately; I'm a little glad, then, that Mercy just so recently had her Ultimate ability replaced, so I didn't have to remove the strongest part of her kit to make her work.

Now it's just...a very strong part of her kit.

(RIP Mercy, she's not the greatest character to play anymore)

@Chilifro: Sorry, got distracted writing something else. Anyway, yes, that looks fine now.

Angela Ziegler AKA Mercy is accepted.

As with stargirl, I'd currently recommend you go ahead and wait until Day 19 ends before getting in, as that should be simpler; and if all goes right that will be starting sometime this weekend. Until then, you should go ahead and check out the first post of the discussion thread again, to see what's been changed since you were gone. And of course if you decide you really cannot wait, then you should at least recap the last few pages of the RP first, to have some idea of what's currently going on.

  • Story: Disney’s Hercules

  • Name: Hercules

  • Age, gender, and species: It isn’t clear what his actual age is but he looks to be in his mid-twenties in the movie. Hercules is of course a demigod and is relatively humanoid.

  • Appearance: https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/219596_large.jpg

  • Personality: Innocent, pure of heart, wide-eyed idealist, Hercules is a hero through and through willing to help anybody in need. While not the brightest tool in the shed and a bit on the clumsy side, Hercules is a regular sweetheart to anybody he meets.

  • Backstory: When he was a child, he was kidnapped from his mother and father Hera and Zeus by Pain and Panic, minions who under served the lord of the Underworld: Hades who wanted Hercules killed to spite his brother Zeus. However Pain and Panic’s attempts to kill Hercules failed and Hercules was found by two humans in Athens and raised him as one of their own and retained his god-like strength as a result. But that same strength would later lead Hercules to be bullied and ostracized from his peers because of said ability. His adopted parents then explained to him once he was old enough to understand that he was the son of the gods and so set off for a quest to prove himself as a true hero to be amongst the gods on Mount Olympus. In the process, he was trained by the legendary trainer of Phil or Philoctetes, who trained him on an island through his adult years. It wasn't until Thebes when he fought the Hydra that he became their hero, after his battle he became famous, beloved by everyone in that city. Little did he know that Hades manipulated and used Meg his love interest to get him closer to finding out his actual weakness, and sure enough as soon as Meg's love for Hercules grew, the god of the underworld exploited that weakness and when Hercules was at his most valuable held Megara hostage against her will. Hades then proposed a deal to Hercules, if the son of Zeus were to give up his strength then it would release Meg but under one condition if Meg got hurt then he would get his strength back.

Reluctantly Hercules agreed to the deal, Hades then drained him off his strength and then released his group of monsters known as Titans and send them to invade Mount Olympus and to be sure Hercules couldn't follow him he sent a Cyclops to wreak havoc on Thebes meaning that if Hercules was busy fighting the Cyclops it would mean that Mount Olympus would be easy prey for him and be able to conquer and rule over on high not before he took the opportune moment to boast that Meg was a part of his scheme leaving the hero of Thebes disheartened. After some encouraging words from Phil, Hercules managed to beat the Cyclops with his intellect and using a torch to burn the Cyclops’ eye and sending it falling off a cliff.

With his renewed confidence, Hercules went on to beat the Titans and help Zeus as well as the other gods but his victories came at a price when Meg died as a result of a fallen pillar from the Cyclops falling crushing her under it after she pushed Herc away out of harms way. Determined to bring her back, Hercules went to the Underworld and offered to trade his soul to save Meg’s soul from the River Styx. Hades accepted the offer on the condition that he manages to bring her out.

Despite the River of Styx aging the son of Zeus rapidly, the gods seeing his selfless act put into motion is what ultimately made him a true hero in the end. It wasn’t his strength that made him a hero but how far he was willing to go as a hero. With Hades defeated and Meg put back into her body, Hercules was then invited to join Zeus as a god and live on Olympus. But seeing as his life would be meaningless without Meg, Hercules declined the offer and decided to spend the rest of his life on earth. The gods respecting his wishes made him mortal again and send him back to where he truly belonged.

  • Skills/powers/abilities:
    • Super Strength – He's very strong and is able to lift several tons his own weight.
    • Enhanced Stamina and Durability – While not on the same level as the gods he possesses Stamina and Durability beyond a normal human being able to go many rounds against a monster
    • Enhanced Speed – He's able to run very fast, making him quite agile in any battle.
    • Trained Hero – Thanks to his training with Phil he’s being trained to use an array of weaponry such as Swords, Spears and Archery. He’s trained to handle dangerous situations, battle monsters even think up strategies on how to win a battle.
  • Items:
    • A sword that he used against the Hydra and other monsters he fought in the past.

Ok first of all while I'm pretty sure most of us know what Disney's Hercules looks like you kinda need to replace that image. By which I mean make it a link, because tvtropes doesn't let you display offsite images.

Second, you should really be making this a bulleted list. Pretty much all the forum markup is on Administrivia.Text Formatting Rules but in case you don't feel like just clicking bullets are made just by putting a * at the beginning of the line. Putting multiple will indent a line and make it a sub-bullet.

Also, the forum eats single enter breaks.

Lastly you should really be putting wip at the top of your post if your sheet isn't done, it's just convenient.

i guess you can watch me shitpost i guess

@The Starscream 759: Disney's Hercules is one of my favorite films, and I think it had a big impact on my outlook on life growing up. Anyway, your sheet is mostly accurate, though I have a few nitpicks.

He technically isn't human, he's a god. A depowered god, but still a god.

And as someone who really likes the film, I find your description of his back story very disappointing. Reading just what you wrote implies that Hercules defeating monsters and Hades was what proved him to be a true hero, when that's explicitly not the point of the movie. He proves that he's a true hero when he demonstrates that he's willing to sacrifice himself to save someone else. The message of the film is that it's ultimately not his strength and ability that matters, but his heart.

Anyway, and as far as balance is concerned, nothing needs to be outright removed of course, but Hercules' speed and especially his strength would both need to be toned down.
