I actually missed the fact Fae are weak to iron, wow.
For Chise's Mind Link, I was thinking that if she does end up looking into people's minds, we would do similarly to how CM and Ferg did with Sawyer and Cole and compose a post in a google doc and then port it over to the main thread so as to not end up cluttering it or putting the RP on hold.
Now for Elias, I guess I did downplay how protective he is of Chise and I'll add it to the sheet, as for his powers...
- I'm fine with making it so Elias can only use his own shadow for attacking, it doesn't seem too far off from how it has been shown in canon anyway. Nobody ever really tried to attack Elias while he's in hiding but I'm fine with him still being capable of being harmed in that state.
- There's really not much that we know about his true form, it's basically Elias in a more feral state (so much that he almost ends up eating Chise once while in it). Looking back at it, his lower body seems to become more snake-like while in this form and he gets sharp claws on his hands. But other than that he's basically the same in terms of abilities
- Shapeshifting can't let him do any of that, no.
- Teleportation would have the same limitations as Sans' yeah.

Making it so he can only form stuff from his own shadow is a good start, but still leaves open potential problems. As is, like I said, there doesn't seem to be any stop gap to him placing a light source behind himself and thus creating the physical shadow forms directly on the person he's fighting. (Like if he creates a thorn directly on their neck, well GG NO RE.) It also still doesn't address if he uses light angles to make his own shadow really big and thus make really big physical forms from it.
I'm not sure what I'd want to implement to help with the former right now, and don't have time to keep thinking on this as I need to get going for tonight. But as for the latter problem, I'd say the easy fix would have there be either an upper limit to how big his physical shadow manifestations can get period; or say that the bigger the manifestation, the more energy it takes him to make and maintain.
You are reading this.I don't think Elias can make really big physical forms with the shadows, he's mostly limited to vines, spikes or tendrils extending from his shadow, he seems to go more for numbers than power and going with your suggestion, it'd be fine if he can't get too spammy with his attacks without losing a lot of energy in the process. An easy fix to the other problem would be that Elias can't really make use control a shadow that is on someone, only if it's on the ground or the wall.
So he can only make the normal sized stuff, he can't spam it, and he can only make it on relatively stationary (to himself), inanimate objects? That seems alright enough to me. Once you've got that stuff edited in for clarity, it'll be good.
Then Chise Hatori and Elias Ainsworth will be accepted.

You are reading this.So I'm back at it again, better this time. I'm joining with a character I actually know well enough to play, at least.
I don't know if this counts as an Inseparable Duo, but if not I can always knock off the second character.
- Story: Ace Attorney:Phoenix Wright (after Trials & Tribulations, before Apollo Justice)
- Name: Phoenix Wright
- Age, gender, and species: 27, Male, Human
- Appearance: The eponymous attorney.
◊
- Personality: Phoenix is a man with conviction. When put to the task, he'll do everything and anything (in his power (that's legal)) in order to achieve it. Of course, he's not superficial; despite being a defense attorney, he only takes the case of a client who he is sure is innocent, and doesn't let anything stop his pursuit of the actual truth of the matter, even if it means his own defeat. That said, he isn't exactly the most serious or professional. He's quick to stumble over himself, both physically and mentally, and never runs out of dry wit. He's fiercely loyal to his friends and allies, and has a particular Berserk Button when it comes to betrayal of such relationships. He's also pretty grounded in reality...unless it helps his case to be fantastic.
- Background: During grade school, Phoenix was singled out as a thief who stole a fellow student's lunch money. Nobody would side with him. Just when he was about to give up, two kids suddenly spoke up, saying how unfair it was to point at Phoenix for no reason and without hearing him out. This gain him his two lifelong friends and a budding interest in law. A good while later, and Phoenix is in Art School, dating a beautiful young girl. Said girl killed several people, tried to kill Phoenix, and framed him for one such murder. It was a bad spot for him. However, thanks to the woman who would soon be his master, he was proven innocent and set free. Thus Phoenix began his journey towards becoming a lawyer. Then it turned out he was really fucking good at being a lawyer. After many consecutive Not Guilty verdicts and one incident where his mentor was murdered (through which he came to know of her sister, below), Phoenix became a renowned attorney. He is now at his peak, having won multiple court cases and having lost a few when his client turned out to be guilty, along with figuring out many troubling fates of his close friends. Now he's just living life as best one can.
- Skills/powers/abilities:
- Deductive Reasoning: Due to his training both as a lawyer and under the tutelage of Mia, Phoenix is exceptionally good at figuring things out. Whether it's a motive, a means, or what have you, he can deduce it just fine. If given enough time to do so.
- Poker skills: He's gotten into the game recently, and has proved to be very proficient in it.
- Lying: Or "bluffing". Phoenix's ability to conjure up falsehoods and stalling techniques on the fly has improved over the years, to the point where most people can't even tell if his insane suggestions are what he truly believes or not. It also usually helps him lead to the logical conclusion.
- Shouting & Pointing: The two prime tools of any legal representative from Japanifornia. Phoenix in particular is quick to holler and point should the opportunity arise.
- Items:
- Attorney's Badge: The symbol of Phoenix's accomplishment as a lawyer that he wears on his lapel. Functionally useless, he just likes showing it around.
- Magatama: A mystical green stone filled with spiritual power. When holding it, Phoenix can see a person's Psyche Locks - basically the physical representation of a person's secret. The more locks, the more unwilling a person is to tell the secret. Once seen, Phoenix can break these locks by providing evidence for and deducing what the person is trying to hide. For example, if there are 3 locks, then he would need about 3 pieces of evidence/theories to break them all. Also, the locks only appear when a question is asked, and the wording of the question matters, too. "Did you murder him" might not elicit any locks, but "Did you kill him" will.
- Cellphone: A simple old cellphone that Phoenix has. Nothing flashy.
- Other: One last thing about Psyche Locks is that there's two varieties: There's the normal kind, red, as said above, and then there are Black Psyche Locks. At the point in time he's from, Phoenix won't know what they are, but Black Psyche Locks represent a secret that the person is unaware they are keeping. This could be for any reason, from psychological trauma to a deluded perspective, and can only be broken by the person who has them.
- Story: Ace Attorney:Phoenix Wright (after Trials & Tribulations, before Apollo Justice)
- Name: Maya Fey
- Age, gender, and species: 19, Female, Human
- Appearance: Heir to the Fey Clan
- Personality: Maya is a very excitable girl, to say the least. Energetic, curious, and often hungry, she very rarely cares how she comes off to others. Not that Maya is rude, of course, she simply is so unique that she doesn’t try to present herself differently unless she has to. One could say that she does not act her age - constantly fiddling with things she shouldn't, does things impulsively, and is even addicted to a television show aimed at younger children, The Steel Samurai. That being said, she is very capable when serious, and is always lending a hand to Phoenix and anyone else who would need help.
- Background: Maya Fey is an apprentice Spirit Medium who has been Phoenix's assistant for the past few years. She is the closest heir to the Fey Clan, the only known Medium order in America, that resides in Kurain Village. The title used to belong to her older sister, Mia, who was also the one who mentored Phoenix and was eventually murdered. That was how she and Phoenix met - Maya had first discovered her sister's body and, due to being framed by the real culprit, was arrested for the crime, and Phoenix successfully defended her in the ensuing trial. This would not be the first time this will happen. Ever since, she and Phoenix had held an incredibly close bond. In more recent events, after a nearly successful attempt on her life by her almost-literally-insane aunt, she finally stepped into her role as the Master of Kurain while still sticking by Phoenix's side.
- Skills/powers/abilities:
- Spirit Channeling: As a Spirit Medium, Maya is able to channel deceased spirits. In essence, this allows Maya to use her physical form to allow the channeled spirit to communicate with the living world. While channeling, Maya is effectively possessed by the spirit, and her body also takes on the appearance of the spirit being channeled (though her hair stays the same). However, she cannot simply pluck spirits willynilly; in order to channel a spirit, Maya must know what the person looks like and their true name. Maya cannot control her body nor the spirit as she channels it, and thus the spirit must leave her body willingly.
- Items:
- Cellphone: A simple block phone, colored pink, and with a Steel Samurai keychain attached to it.
i see a phoenix wright signup and raise you this
(also theres literally no use for channeling in the city because permadeath doesnt exist lol)
i guess you can watch me shitpost i guessIt's instant as soon as you're dead. If you are dying of blood loss you might get a period of unconsciousness before dying, but once you're actually dead the corpse (and any chance at contacting a recently departed spirit, I'm pretty sure) disappears and you respawn.
That said, there might be a use for channeling if anyone has spirits bound to objects or something along those lines...

@Oceanstuck: Heh, I've seen that video before. It's great.
Anyway, @Truth Hurts 22: Alright, so as I said in discussion I'm not really familiar with Ace Attorney beyond the premise and some internet jokes; fortunately one of my friends is and confirmed that the sheets were accurate. Unfortunately though, she didn't make any comment on whether the two were really a duo or not, and I currently can't contact her, so I'll need to do some looking and maybe ask around to determine if they'd qualify. Though the fact that you don't seem so certain yourself doesn't set my expectations high.
In the meantime, while both are accurate there is issues with their items and skills. Maya's ability is, as Ocean and Blitz pointed out, basically useless in the context of the RP. The only characters it could really qualify to (namely Lewis and other undead characters) don't need her to channel them; they can communicate with other people just fine anyway. Though overall there's nothing overpowered or rule breaking about it, so I guess technically she can still have it, even though it'll never get used.
Pheonix himself is where actual issues arise. Deductive Reasoning is, on paper, fine for him to have, but actually implementing it in a mechanical sense is a problem; since basically the only way for that to be functionally done is to allow you to metagame, which obviously I won't.
His Magatama is also fairly arbitrary in its mechanics, and pretty much just unfair. IE, it is unfair for anyone who wants their character to be keeping a secret, if they are then forced to share that secret with Pheonix against the player's will just because he presented an arbitrary number of pieces of evidence. So as is, that's pretty much unacceptable. I would allow it to be that he can use it to see if someone is keeping a secret whether or not he knows what it is, but not any of the other functions.

You are reading this.First, I was only unsure of their status as a Duo in the context of the roleplay. They're rarely separated during the original trilogy, bar certain circumstances, but they aren't necessary for one another. Basically I'm not sure if they're a Rick-And-Morty or not.
On abilities; I only mentioned Spirit Channeling as it's a pretty big part of her character. It doesn't need to have any actual traction in the roleplay. As for Phoenix, all of his "abilities" are mostly fluff - Desuctive Reasoning is just a fancy way of saying he's good at figuring stuff out, not that it's anything special. Anything figured out by him would be based solely on what he knows himself to be true, I won't use it as an excuse for him to understand everything.
As for the Magatama, I can see where your worries are. Not that I'm trying to argue your point, but I wasn't planning to force anyone into it. Anything given to Phoenix would be the player's own discretion and nothing more. And the whole "evidence" part of it is essentially him going "does it have to do with this?" and if yes, he's closer to the truth and one lock is broken. Though I am willing to have it so he can't directly break the locks, only see them when a topic is brought up. And it isn't that he knows instantly if a person is keeping a secret, only that they show up if the person is lying about the exact thing Phoenix asks them about - such as, he asks if they know about so-and-so, claim they don't but really do. Basically just a gameplay mechanic from the games in order to make the act of grilling a person to spill the beans more interesting than just reading some text.
But again, nerfs are to be decided by you.

If they're not necessary for one another, then I would not consider that as qualifying for inseparable duo status. I'm still finding it hard to quantify what I feel does and doesn't qualify, but the best explanation I think I've got so far is something like: When being with that other person is iconic to them. It's not just about whether they fight alongside each other, spend a lot of time together, or act differently with just each other than when around others.
Rick and Morty again come up as the easiest example to point at currently in the RP: Simply put, being with each other is basically a part of who they are as characters; being with Rick is a part of who Morty is as a character, and being with Morty is a part of who Rick is as a character. Sans and Papyrus would be an example that is really on the fence to me, and sometimes I feel like I would've allowed them as a duo after all. Then by contrast, Fate and Arf didn't feel like a duo to me because being with Arf isn't really a part of who Fate is as a character, note and I only allowed that after plenty of players in skype made it clear that they thought differently and/or didn't mind if Yomegami played both. Then there's Kamina and Simon, whom as I mentioned to Light To All during that signup process that part of them being a duo is based on how Simon is a coward without Kamina around.
So from what you're saying, I don't think they would qualify; granted, that is having not played any of the games myself.
Anyway, back to the Magatama, Pheonix being unable to break the locks but see them when they come up sounds fine, yeah.

You are reading this.Alright, that's fair. I'll pull Maya's application.
Though I would like to contest it a bit more - how they're so close that Phoenix risked his life (crossing a literal burning bridge) to save her, and that the pair show up together in other media, such as Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Project X Zone, and such others - I'm pretty sure it'd end up going in circles.
That prolly came off more passive-aggressive than I meant it to, sorry.
edited 20th Apr '17 4:07:55 AM by TruthHurts22
I think the biggest point in favor of being a duo is actually the fact that after Maya leaves in the ending Turnabout Goodbyes, Phoenix finds himself without the motivation to do work without her around and only takes Ema's case in Rise from Ashes because her situation reminds him of Maya's. That's also the only moment in the trilogy where those two are apart without it being a result of Maya being arrested, kidnapped or stranded.
I don't wanna push it with Firock if he really decides not to go with it, honestly. Though that is also a good point. I just didn't mention it due to the inverse: "At one point he even just gets a second-hand Maya!"
(And if you want to get technical, the Magatama doesn't give him the specific power to break the Locks anyways, just to see them in the first place, them breaking is only directly related to him digging into what the secret could be. So, they don't reveal the secret due to the locks breaking, the locks break because their secret is being figured out.)
That isn't really a point in favor of them being together as central to either of their characters. There are tons of characters who would do that for someone that they're not in an inseparable duo with.
This however is. Somewhat, anyway.
Full Moon presents a much stronger argument. That is something that starts to make them sound like an actual inseparable duo. I'll have to see if I can't poke that friend again and see what she has to say; in the meantime, I should get going for tonight.
And as for your further notes on the Magatama, alright, that sounds fine. It didn't sound like that with what was originally worded on the signup though.
edited 20th Apr '17 4:40:06 AM by FirockFinion
You are reading this. But yeah, I have some trouble explaining a thing to a person who knows nothing about it. Let me try to talk about their relationship a bit better:
As Full Moon said, the only time the pair are apart from one another is during the interim between the (original) end of the first game, Case 4, and case 2 of the second. Any other time was due to exterminating circumstances, such as Maya being kidnapped or stranded on a mountain with no way to get back. They are the duo for the entire first trilogy, and as such are usually paired with one another. Like I said before, they are shown together in the two other games they were put into, U Mv C 3 and Project X Zone. They were also a duo in the crossover with Professor Layton, Professor Layton Vs Ace Attorney. And if this helps at all, due to some events in that crossover, Phoenix believes Maya is dead, becomes despondent and incredibly hostile because of it. Also while she isn't a part of the fourth or fifth games, the plot of 6 is kicked off because Phoenix travels to a foreign country just to see her again.
I don't know if that exactly helps. I hope it does, but I'm still not too confident on my explanation skills.

Time to switch characters. Again.
Story: Digger
Name: Digger-Of-Unnecessarily-Convoluted-Tunnels (Digger for short)
Age, gender, and species: 25, female, wombat
Appearance something like this.
Personality: Digger is a very grounded, no-nonense kind of wombat with a distaste for anything magical. She's strong, both literally and metaphorically, and likes to get things done rather than wait around for someone to tell her what to do. She can also be a bit of a Deadpan Snarker and meets most of the issues in the story with a relaxed, if not sarcastic, attitude. If she gets close enough to a person, she can develop a motherly/sisterly relationship with them. She also gets excited about the most mundane things, such as rocks and digging root cellars (she did major in geology, after all).
Backstory: Not much is known about Digger’s life before she gets roped into the story. TL;DR, after arriving at the temple of Ganesh due to someone magicking up her hole at the beginning of the story, she encounters the Shadowchild, who doesn't know what it is, and Ed, the lonely and excitable hyena living in a cave. After doing more research on the hole, Digger runs into a group of bandits terrorizing a town, and while protecting it, gets injured and knocked unconscious. She wakes up with the Hag, the 19-year-old healer that's been taking care of her for about a week. This is around the point i’ll be taking her from.
Skills/powers/abilities: Digger is rather durable, being able to shrug off a knife to the rear and an arrow to the shoulder (though the latter did leave her bedridden for about a week), and she can defeat a group of (probably incapable) bandits with ease. She also has a sort of immunity to magic that all wombats possess; not the physical kind, but something like mental manipulation. She's also knowledgeable in both geology and architecture.
Items: Her trusty pick axe and a backpack. That's it.
Other: She facepalms a lot.

(holds pool noodle threateningly) Do you want to know what we do to artists?@Truth Hurts 22: Well, my friend has proven difficult to get back in touch with, so I did some searching of info myself. I'm still a little doubtful of them qualifying, since even you directly said "they aren't necessary for one another", but it does seem like they are pretty connected in their canon, yes.
Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey are accepted.
Now, before you get back in you should double check the first post of the discussion thread, to remind yourself of anything you might have forgotten and also to see what has been changed/added since you were last here; and of course to also see the current day rules and such. As for the main thread, you should recap the last few pages or so to have at least some idea of what's going on before you jump in.
@Pro Trash: I've never heard of this "Digger" webcomic; I doubt any of my friends have either, but I actually haven't had the chance to check today since none of them have been online, so I just checked out the character trope page. There admittedly wasn't a lot of info there, but from what was there it seems like your sheet is mostly accurate; the only thing I'd say seems missing is that you didn't mention she has some big sister/mama bear tendencies- at least in regards to those she gets closely attached to, it seems.
Digger-of-Unnecessarily-Convoluted-Tunnels AKA "Digger" is accepted.
And now just pretty much ditto the stuff I told Truth Hurts 22 a few paragraph breaks up. Check out the first discussion post, recap the last few main thread pages, yadda yadda.
You are reading this.Okay, I've been away from this RP for too long. Since Bill never really worked out for me, I'll be using a different character, specifically one that's been here twice before.
Story: Samurai Jack, specifically season 5.
Name: Samurai Jack
Age, gender, and species: Physically in his 20's, mentally in his 70's. Male. Human.
Appearance: Watch out!
◊ (Minus the blood stains and sword)
Personality: Jack is, in a word, damaged. Several years of fighting an uphill battle have taken a toll on his sanity. He often hallucinates people that aren't there and has a difficult time discerning between reality and these hallucinations. He tries to help innocent people, but he is so caught up in his depression that he feels he can do nothing to help. He has a rather awkward sense of humor. He's more talkative and emotional than he was beforehand, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. He's very mistrustful of any robotic entities due to years of killing robots under the employ of his nemesis. He is more willing to kill humans now than before.
Back story: Long ago, in a distant land, Aku, the Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil. But a samurai warrior with a magic sword stepped up to oppose him. Before the final blow was struck, Aku tore open a portal in time and flung him into the future, where his evil is law. Now he seeks to return to the past, to undo the future that is Aku... at least, until now. For fifty years, Jack fought Aku's forces, but he did not age. In these years, he lost his robe, his sword, his sanity, and his determination. Now he wanders aimlessly from place to place.
Skills/powers/abilities: He is skilled enough to fight with any weapon, both rustic and futuristic, as well as fighting unarmed. When he feels like it, he does a good job of blending in stealthily with the environment. He can also jump good.
Items: He has nothing but the pants that he wears, at least for now.
The legend has returned.

@Full Moon: I've never really heard of The Ancient Magus Bride before; I doubt any of my friends have either, and I was waiting to check with them just in case, but unfortunately they haven't really been available today. I did some checking and though there wasn't a page for character tropes, the info on the main trope page seemed sufficient enough for me to get an impression of the characters.
They seem accurate except for a couple notes about Elias that I would consider should be mentioned on the sheet; the first being that you kind of undersold how protective he is about Chise from my understanding. The second, and more important, is noting that since Elias is some kind of fae and fae from that universe have a weakness to iron, then so should he.
As for balance concerns, there's not too much to bring up for Chise. The main thing being that for practical concerns of posting, her mind linking should probably be a bit downplayed.note Also of course her necklace will only help so much when it comes to the shifting of the city and Elias trying to find Chise.
For Elias however, there is a lot that should be changed and/or cleared up about his power set.
