Hey, Firock, is it ok to join as character that sometimes has hallucinations of another character? Kinda like Remy and Gusteau in Ratatouille or that Biometal of Ashe.

And also, should the hallucination have a character sheet?

A character with hallucinations would be fine, but are we talking straight up 100% in their head hallucinations, or does this "hallucination" have the ability to actually affect things? Can it in any way interact with the world around them or inform the character of stuff they couldn't know themselves?

Because if it is a totally fake hallucination, then just mention it on the one character's sheet. But if it is real in some way, and can do things or tell them about stuff they don't know, then I'd say treat it like a second character in a duo.

Ok, it's all in their head. I will just mention it in the main character's sheet then.

  • Story: Sword Art Online
  • Name: Asada Shino / "Sinon"
  • Age, gender, and species: 16/F/Human (VR Avatar)
  • Appearance: Bang.
  • Personality: Sinon is able to keep a reasonably cool head in stressful situations, something that has earned admiration from other players, although it has also made her come across as cold and hard to approach, even though she can be friendly and doesn't mind being helpful to people who need it. However, if angered she has an incredibly fierce temper. She also carries a fair deal of psychological trauma from an incident in her childhood, to the point where outside the game someone making a finger-gun gesture at her has been enough to cause her to break down.
  • Back story: Sinon is a player in the Virtual Reality game «Gun Gale Online». She mostly uses the game as a way of trying to relieve the psychological issues she was left with after shooting and killing a bank robber with his own gun when she was nine, which her classmates made heavy use of to extort money and other things from her.
  • Skills/powers/abilities:
    • Strength Stats: In case you were wondering how a 5' girl is able to easily carry a thirty-pound rifle that's almost as long as she is tall.
    • «Hawk Eye» skill: Improves subject's visual acuity, reducing the distance effect (allows zooming the player's vision) and increasing the visual identification rate,
    • OOC Note: These are both game mechanics that probably won't scale to the RP properly.
  • Items:
  • Other: If there's something you think you should mention that doesn't fit in any above category, put it here.

Well, am literally about to go for the night so I won't be able to respond to any replies for a bit. I'm only familiar with Sword Art Online in the most basic of senses, but a check through her character page entry seems accurate enough; I've also got a friend who did watch at least some of Sword Art Online that I'll ask about it after I'm up tomorrow.

My main question right now is, it's going to actually be her in the city, just physically as her "Gun Gale Online" character, yes? Or was your intention that she's still back in her own universe and is just controlling her character via normal means, except the character is in the city now?

I'm assuming the former and that's what I'd prefer you go with. If you were hoping to do the latter though... I'd have to think about that.

It's taken me a bit to figure out how the formatting works so I'm hoping this all came out right, so, hopefully this works.

Note additions at the end of this entry

Story: Dragon Age: Asunder and Dragon Age: Inquisition

Name: Cole

Age, gender, and species: Spirit of Compassion, who presents as a male human approximately in his late teens

Appearance: [1]

Personality: Cole is quiet and easy to miss, if not for his sometimes decidely odd behavior. However, he lives his life with a desire to help and ease the pain of anyone around him, thus being friendly and open to anyone he deems good, and distrustful and wary of those he deems bad...either way, however, he seeks to heal hurts. Since becoming more human, he has also begun to develop proper emotions and mortal needs, and thus can seem immature at times as he tries to grasp actually being alive. He also has a distinct lack of boundaries and is the last person you should expect to keep a secret.

Back story: Cole first existed as Compassion, a spirit of the mystical Fade who embodied the emotion. However, a young mage named Cole, brought into the White Spire and accidentally starved to death by Templars, cried out and drew the attention of Compassion, who was unable to offer any help beyond holding the young man's hand as he died. Compassion was damaged by being unable to fulfill its purpose, and in desperation did all it could, taking on the form of Cole for itself. The new Cole, however, lost his memory of what he had been, and discovered himself unable to be remembered by all but a single mage, Rhys, who befriended the troubled young man hiding in the dungeons of the Spire.

Cole was known as the Ghost of the Spire, as he traveled it “mercy killing” young mages and apprentices that wished for death, as they could see and remember him. These actions accidentally helped set off a mage/Templar war, in which Cole, Rhys, and others were involved. After battling the Templars, a spell used against him revealed Cole was not a human mage, but some sort of demon or spirit, and he faded away, only surfacing long enough to murder the Templar who wished to destroy the mages.

Some time later, Cole came to the Inquisition, seeking his place in the world and offering his help. He was accepted, with some reservations, but ultimately proved to truly wish to atone for his past and to “help the helpless, heal the hurt” despite occasionally accidentally revealing hidden hurts of his comrades.

After a significant battle, Cole became afraid that as a spirit, he could be bound, or controlled, by bad people, and sought the help of his teammates to prevent it. Ultimately, he was guided into making a decision which brought the spirit further into being human, causing significant shifts in his abilities and way of viewing the world. Though needing some time to come to terms with the changes, Cole was still able to assist in further battles to help protect his world, until finding himself in the City Of Lost Characters.

Skills/powers/abilities:

  • Empathy/telepathy, with a limitation that what he detects must be “a hurt, or something that could heal the hurt.” This can be surprisingly variable however, as he has shown in the past to be able to detect the pain of a person he has never met through shared pain with someone he has, and if a person abruptly shifts their line of thought away from a hurt, he will unwillingly find that thought as well (his fellow Inquisition members have occasionally used this to threaten him). He also proves to have a knack for detecting when people are likely to act out in the near future to cause pain, and can take preventative steps against it. However, since becoming more human, Cole sometimes struggles to be able to hear others over his own pains, and is still learning to deal with the new complexities of people he is now aware of.

  • Invisibility: Cole can render himself largely unseen to those around him, though his invisibility is not perfect and will drop immediately upon interaction with another or being attacked, and works best against those who have not seen him before.

  • These abilities help make Cole a deadly Assassin, wielding twin daggers to backstab opponents before fleeing. He has no formal training, claiming he “goes where the daggers need to go.”

  • Cole has some ability with bows, but lacks the physical strength to be an effective archer.

  • Former power: An ability to force people to forget his existence or any interaction they had ever had with him, stating that “their minds make a shape that make sense.” Lost this power upon becoming more human, but occasionally forgets and tries to make use of it.

Items: Two double-bladed daggers worn in holsters on his back, and his beloved armored hat, odd though it seems.

Other: Cole has only existed in a mortal body for a very few years, and thus despite his apparent age, has very little experience that would be expected and can sometimes seem more like a child than an older teen/young adult. He sees things differently than most and oftentimes things that make perfect sense to him will absolutely baffle others, but with questioning his line of reasoning usually makes sense.

Currently During the course of his time in the City, thanks to a series of developments and changes, Cole has been changed from a spirit hybrid into a fully human little boy, of approximately 3-4 years of age. While he retains his knowledge from before and skills, he no longer has his powers, and is physically no different from any other normal human child.

@Deadbeatloser22: Unfortunately my friend who knows SAO does not seem to be coming online today, but I could still accept Sinon regardless. Have you made any decision about what I asked before?

@Cole Minor: Well like I said before, I'm not really familiar with Dragon Age, nor do any of my friends seem to be, but a skim through his character entry and this looks accurate enough.

I did notice a power mentioned there that you didn't seem to bring up in your sheet: Apparently he has the ability to sense magic? Is this something else he lost when becoming more human or did you just forget it?

Also I'm a little confused by the wording of the empathy/telepathy skill; so he can read people's thoughts, but only if they were thinking about "hurt" right before thinking about something else? That seems weirdly specific, even if "hurt" means what I think it means, which I'm not sure of.

Cole's powers are kind of hard to define even in the context of the game.

1. While in-game, he can sense magic, what (I think) he's actually sensing is the alternate world he came from, the Fade, which is separated from the main human world by the Veil. Magic in Dragon Age comes from people pulling at that, and he can sense the presence of the bits of his old world coming through, since when he talks about it he talks about how the Fade is shaped by the mages. I figure that probably means he can't detect "magic" specifically.

2. His power is that he can sense pains and ways to fix them, but dialogue in-game indicates that other characters can "force" him to sense other things (in one case, genitals, in another case, a threat to shove his hat up his ass if he doesn't stop) if they become aware he's reading them. Otherwise, he's pretty much just aware of people's pain and/or if there's something he could do to help lessen it.

Ah. So given that context, you don't think he could sense magic unless it's the same kind of magic from his world?

Anyway, the empathy thing still sounds weird to me, but all in all, I think it will be okay.

Cole is accepted.

Be sure to check out the first post of discussion for some helpful information, and the first post of the main thread to see how Cole should enter the city. You don't have to recap the whole thread if you don't want to, but you should consider at least recapping from the start of the current day, (don't worry, it wasn't long ago) which there are links to in the first post of discussion.

Finally got in touch with my friend who knows SAO; he said the sheet checks out. It should still be fine to play as her, (or anyone else from SAO) just as long as that particular question gets an established answer. Play who you want to play as, Deadbeat.

As I said before, I think the best solution is to just say that she really is physically there in the city personally, but that she's been physically transformed into her Gun Gale Online character.

If that's alright with you, then Asada Shino aka "Sinon" is accepted.

I'll go ahead and add her to the character list, that way you can either jump in, or wait and pick a different character; up to you.

As always, be sure to check out the first post of discussion for helpful information and links, including the current day conditions and such; and check out the first post of the main thread to see how she should enter. You don't have to recap everything and there is a sparse recap page, but recapping the last few pages or from the start of the current day would be a good way to know what's currently going on.

You don't need permission to post a signup, but the signup does need to be accepted before you can post in the main game.

If you're new you should check out the main forum rules which apply to all subforums, including roleplaying. And the specific roleplaying subforum rules. And then of course read the rules for this particular RP in the first post of this thread.

I shall go do that, but not before I put in my character sheet thingy...

Story: Homestuck, this overly complicated webcomic which is the second best thing EVER

Name: Vriska Serket

Age, Gender, and Species: 13, female, and Troll (not the fairy tale kind.)

Appearance: She has, like, a million different forms, but I'll stick with her original: she looks like your average teenage girl, but her skin is gray and her left arm is replaced with a robot arm. She wears glasses that cover up her left eye with a metallic...thing. Her hair is black and reaches her waist, and two candy corn-colored horns sprout from the top of her head: one is shaped like a pincer and the other is shaped like a stinger. She wears red convers, jeans, a jacket, and a black shirt with the Scorpio sign on it.

Personality: Manipulative, evil, a little loud...likes the number 8 a lot, so much so that she replaces the letter B with 8 when she types.

Backstory: She isn't very interesting up until the point she was introduced. She was that one that made one character blind and another paralyzed from the waist down, but other than that, nothing else is worth mentioning.

Skills/Powers/Abilities:

  • She has the power to use mind control; but we never see her use it against those not of her own kind, so the effects will remain weak.
  • She can use the metallic side of her glasses to "increase her vision eight-fold", giving her a type of x-ray vision.

Items: Her weapon of choice is eight pieces of eight-sided dice, that can use a variety of attacks to, well, attack depending on how high the number she rolled is.

Other: Uh...

Well, I know Homestuck exists and sort of know the idea of it, but I'm not really familiar with it since it seems more complicated than most comic book continuities, and don't have the time nor do I care enough to really get familiar with it.

Now, I took a skim through her character entry, and while nothing looks wrong in your signup sheet except for one thing technically, your signup sheet also seems very minimal and lacking a lot of things that seem like they could be important. Like, you don't mention at all that she's a gamer, a roleplayer herself, or her apparent likeness for statistics, probability, and luck. Also the back story you provide tells me literally nothing about her as a character; saying, "She was that one that made one character blind and another paralyzed from the waist down" means absolutely nothing to anyone who doesn't already know the context of Homestuck, like me. Why not mention the stuff about losing her arm and getting it replaced with a robot one? Not only is that actually a back story, it seems like it's rather important to knowing more about who she is as a character. And if you are going to mention her making someone blind and paralyzing someone else if they are important events for her as a character, at least provide some actual context, like who she did it to and why.

And as for the one thing that seems technically wrong, you say she's straight up evil while based on her entry on the character trope page, she's actually a Well-Intentioned Extremist who is also a Hero with an F in Good; that is, she's not trying to be evil, she's just really bad at being good.

There's also mention of powers in her character entry that you didn't bring up, though since I don't really know perhaps that's because the point you intend to take her from she doesn't have those powers? Something about being able to literally steal luck (and other "stats" apparently) from other people? Also other psychic abilities like reading minds and apparently puppeting other people into using their psychic abilities on other people. (Though when it comes to that latter one, obviously that wouldn't really be allowed here anyway.)

And of course, since it does fall under the rule about OP characters, her ability to mind control is going to have to be something that anybody could resist, and it will be entirely up to other players whether or not it works on their character.

Well, I mean I guess I never really made a rule against that, but I figured it would kind of go without saying that you should play a character you're fully familiar with. (Might make that a rule after this though... I'll have to think about that.)

Play who you want to play as, sure, but it would certainly be better if you played a character that you really know in and out.

Mm'kay, I'll just put this here...

Story: Steven Universe

Name: Peridot

Age, Gender, and Species: None, none (though uses female pronouns) and Gem

Appearance: http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/steven-universe/images/1/14/Tol_Peridot_by_Lenhi.png/revision/latest?cb=20151227061207

Personality: Peridot is a Homeworld Gem. Therefore, she doesn't think very highly of Earth customs and will most likely not mesh well with other characters. Initially, she is seen as cold and ruthless, destroying her own probe simply because it was leaking. She will not hesitate to destroy pretty much anything. However, when faced with any kind of danger, she will use a variety of evasion tactics to escape before resorting to fighting; this doesn't mean she's a pacifist though. She just sucks at fighting. When stranded, she can go slightly insane, losing her emotionless demeanor and showing off a more crazy side.

Backstory: Like I said, Peridot is a Homeworld Gem. Not much is known about Peridot before the events of Warp Tour. She was sent to Earth in order to reactivate the Kindergarten: a Gem-made structure meant to create new Gems (it was deactivated by a group of rebels known as the Crystal Gems because it was harmful to the Earth). She never succeeded, due to the same Crystal Gems interfering with her plans. Later, she arrived on Earth with an escort (Jasper) to destroy the rebels. They captured the C Gs and were about to return to Homeworld, but Steven had forced the ship to crash into Earth. Peridot escaped. In future episodes, she is chased throughout the Kindergarten and eventually captured. No more info is necessary, since this begins the Peridot Redemption arc, which I don't want to include.

Skills/Powers/Abilities: Using her "limb enhancers" she can use a large amount of abilities. Her fingers are detached from her hand, allowing her to use them as a screen that controls plenty of Homeworld tech. She can also use her fingers to fly like a helicopter. She can shoot energy spheres similar to Mega Man, and use a sort of tractor beam to immobilize enemies. She can walk up walls with ease. She can also use the gem on her forehead like a flashlight.

Items: Her limb enhancers are detachable, counting them as items. Without them, she's practically defenseless.

Other: Should the gem on her forehead be cracked, her body will "glitch out", due to a Gem's body being sort of like a hologram projected by the gem. And if it is fully shattered, that Gem will cease to exist.
