[up] "Karamatsu and Brothers" expands more on Kara's character, that one aspect of his "nice"ness is just him being too much of an Extreme Doormat to refuse. It also shows that Choro has horribly low opinions of his brothers, but is still the most decent person among them. Also Kara hasn't been getting as much screentime this season, plus Kara and Choro rarely interact, so it's service for both Kara and Choro fans.

I agree that the seiyuu skit is really damn good. Them callbacks to previous episode, plus the jab at Totty's VA was unexpectedly hilarious. Also, I heard that Yuuichi Nakamura didn't really like doing the Summer Kamen skit, so if it's true it's doubly funny that he needed to do them again.

[up][up] To add to that, I like that they're compounding Karamatsu mostly acts nice for the sake of being 'seen' as nice more than anything, much like Choromatsu cultivates an image of being the reliable one when he's as lazy as his brothers, deep down

Thanks all for explaining Karamatsu and Brothers to me. I'm just not that used to a show like this doing legitimate character development. I'm not good at seeing underlying emotional stuff, even in characters.

Now then! Episode 11!

First episode this season that is (loosely) based on an old story of the Osomatsu-kun days, Chibita's Revenge, which became a one-segment episode. This episode was awesome!

It was somewhat satisfying to see Chibita exert his anger on the sextuplets, and I really liked his singing. The suspense the sextuplets feel is really felt by the audience, even by those siding with the nutty Chibita. The return of the ugly fairy was a great surprise gag. I don't have much to say regarding this episode besides it was good. There really weren't any headscratchers or many Easter eggs so my review seems a bit short.

But, I wonder what "The Eitaro Family", the next episode title, refers to. A far reach someone found out was that in Moretsu Ataro, Batsugoro mentions wanting kids for every vowel: Ataro, Etaro, Itaro, Otaro, and Utaro. It's probably not that, but I wish it was. And I hope the episode airing the 25th will be a perfectly timed Christmas special. Well, we won't know until next week!

Saw the "Tax Free" notice on Chibita's oden food stand and I had a chuckle...

[up] It also boasts to have wifi. That gave me a bit of a chuckle too.

Anyway, episode 12!

The first Totoko and Nyaa segment was pretty okay I guess. It garnered a light response out of me. The punchline worked, and I could relate to it, and that's all it really needed for something so short.

Well, Eitaro wasn't anything related to Moretsu Ataro like some fans had hoped, but I'm not surprised. But the segment was super cute! I love the idea of a lonely little kid wanting to perform gags and make others laugh. If there's anything I dislike about the segment, it's not about the segment itself, but rather a translation choice. They subtitled "joke" for every instance of "gag", which I don't particularly approve of. But that's just a weeby nitpick. Very cute segment, very cute idea. Eitaro reminds me of my Osomatsu-kun OC, actually.

Now, Dekapan and Dayon's bit. I've mentioned this before, but unpopular opinion, their segments always get a smile out of me. For some reason, I just really enjoy their chemistry as characters. If I were in charge of this one, though, there're a couple things I would change. For one, I actually loved the creativity of the animators when thinking of different ways to show the chase. The 8-bit sequence and trip sequence were specific favorites, as well as the escalator bit. But honestly, as much as I enjoyed those bits, they kinda dragged on. If it were up to me, I'd shorten those bits, and instead focus more on the subtly implied development. See, Dekapan is typically portrayed as a soft, fatherly figure. When he isn't a scientist, he's straight up a doctor, and a very tender one at that. But it was shown here that even he breaks when he's agitated. Dayon, on the other hand, has a severe case of oblivion. He doesn't really understand how others feel, and tends to unintentionally anger or irritate people, especially with his newfound schtick of causing mischief this season. Instead of cutting off at "I'll never forgive you! Do you understand?!" I feel they should've developed this sort of thing a bit more.

And finally, the last segment of Totoko and Nyaa. Again, okay. It's nice to see they're still on bad terms, because I was honestly tired of people saying they'd make up and clearly they're never going to.

And so, next week's is an end of the year special, which means it may, unfortunately, be another recap special to end the cour. The end-of-cour recap special was the most pointless thing in the first season, so if they redo that, hopefully it'll be more satirical in nature, a la the amazing season premiere. If they can redo the idea of the first episode of this series, which I honestly hated, they can do something fun with a recap special. Well, we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, talk about unpopular opinion. You're literally the only person I've seen who likes the Dekapan and Dayoon segment.

Anyway, yeah, first segment was good. I love the part where the mom confronts Jyushimatsu and how he's on the edge the entire time. Also like the ending. How come Jyushimatsu gets all the ladies?

I love Totoko and Nyaa when they're both being bitches to each other,

[up] It depends. I'd say Jyushimatsu usually gets the most bizarre fangirls, but Totty and even Big O (Osomatsu) can be considered moderately successful in Season 2.

1. Apparently the two Sutabaa girls only stick around with Totty now.

2. Osomatsu obviously got some in Episode 7, even if it's just one night (by the way, no one showed us how wild the night ended up!)

[up][up][up] Dayon likes to act more than to talk, so it would be a bit OOC for him if they go in depth of what he's up to. Easily the unfavourite of the episode, though a bit hard to do something better other than simply making it even faster paced. Meanwhile it caught me when the chase continues right after Dekapan appears to retreat in defeat in one scene.

This show keeps going through lengths to show every single sextuplet is an asshole despite fandom perceptions and it's so great for it

[up][up]Yeah, I know that's the thing about Dayon's character. What I mean is for Dekapan to talk to him about it maybe, since he's the "take a seat and let's talk about our feelings" kind of tender fellow. Although, that probably wouldn't work because he got pretty heated that segment. Maybe they should make one where Dekapan is trying to talk serious to Dayon, but he doesn't respond due to his oblivion and lack of communication. I know you might think I'm taking this too seriously, but ever since the beginning of the franchise, Osomatsu occasionally has those "calm down and talk" moments amidst all the gag nonsense.

[up]x2 The show actually goes too far and its being mean spirited honestly, especially when worse scum like Iyami and Totoko exists.

I've seen quite a few not liking this season because it's needlessly cruel in it comeuppance towards the six. While the first seasons way of tormenting them felt better.

[up] IMHO that's because many "San" fans are not familiar with the original work. Of course I am not very much better in terms of this, and Season 2 Episode 11 does impact me so much that I don't want to watch it again, but the show's main characters (i.e. the Sextuplets, their parents, Totoko, Iyami, Chibita, Hatabou, Dekapan and Dayon) are mean to be Jerkasses at least some of the times (on the other hand those exclusively from "San", e.g. the Country Girl, usually deserve more sympathy).

(Almost) everything in the show is Played for Laughs, Season 2 just more so. Episodes like 9B or 15 in Season 1 are rather oddities.

The problem is that the show is more aggressively meanspirited towards the brothers while offering little comeuppance to others, and goes out of its way to shit on them more than the other jerks, some of whom are no better. Worse, they get away with it. Which is where the difference lies.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.

[up] This. Prime example is the Oso and Todo going to the mixer skit. I saw the ending listed in the "Funny" page, and I'm struggling to see where's the funny. I'm just feeling sorry for Oso there.

Or the invisible detergent episode. They didn't really do much wrong (as far as crashing a party they've done worse) in that skit, so the end really feels like "they're shit because they're shit lol" instead of them getting proper comeuppances.

I was half-expecting the Jyushiolphin episode to end with Jyushi failing and drowning in front of the episode, to be honest.

Fortunately these past few episodes have been a blast.

I see both of your points. In some sense I do agree that our red lines are being tested throughout season 2, but I learned not to be too serious with the plots.

[up] [up] That's how Osomatsu always worked, and as they are the main characters they of course get the most treatment of any kind. Black Humor of course can contain some perpetrators getting away, but apart from episode 11 I don't really see this happening (in a wrong way).

My scale is something like this:

"funny / good" 8 > 12 > 6B > 5 > 7 > 9 > 10> 1 > 2 > 3 > 6A > 4 || 11 "cruel / bad"

The only episode that crossed my red line is episode 11. I placed 4 rather low although it's my perception problem because I am not very interested in the other characters.

[up] 2B: If you consider they actually work up a solution to the super detergent problem, then this segment is funny throughout. It is an accident no less, and accidents never mean to be fair. The end can also be interpreted as all other characters (minus Iyami maybe) being stupid or ignorant. It's not like they are intentionally cruel (unlike episode 11 where Matsuzo and Matsuyo automatically declare their lynched sons to be wrongdoers without investigation).

7C: I don't have the gut to re-watch the girls' cruel speech at the end too, but one needs to think in their place to understand their move. Their social standing is undoubtedly higher than the Matsuno brothers because they have a job, so it's natural that they would shoot down a NEET's advances when sober. And as I said before, who knows what happened later that night? It's fully possible that Osomatsu actually got laid. I am actually surprised that an impulsive person like him would try to pursue a stable relationship with the two, but maybe what he did was out of impulse anyways. The ending is just slightly exaggerated to get the point out. [My sympathy goes to Totty but heck he gets two to his own already (OP; Exiles in 5; 12B)]

So episode 13 was probably my favorite episode of the first cour, if only because of the final segment retroactively making all the preceding ones that much funnier. I knew something was off during my initial watch of it and I didn't realize until the last segment that Totty was mysteriously absent.

[up] Looks like Totty's success does not go unnoticed XDDD

Although my favourite skit would be the two involving Karamatsu / Ichimatsu (truckers rock!), as well as the Totoko sculpture. I mean, does anybody notice where Chibita crashes into the sculpture?

[up] Yeah, they confirmed it back during Anime Expo I believe.

So I watched this weeks episode. The first segment had like the darkest joke so far of this series IMHO.

The second segment was hilarious. Actually spit my drink out twice when Oso and Karamatsu started reacting to Choromatsu's new hair.

[up][up] Nice to hear it.

For Episode 14, I think we can see quite some new tropes invoked:

1. Sanematsu's fetish (?)

2. Choro's action of dyeing his hair without knowing it's lame

3. How the other brothers react to Choro's hairstyle (I particularly think Ichi is having many new poses and faces in season 2 that Jyushi's accusation of him 'not dark at all' very justified)

4. How Choro reacts when he found out the truth and plays along with Kara's (false) accusations against the younger ones to keep his butt; and finally, how the story ended.

Sadly I cannot identify how those tropes are called here, so maybe you guys can give some advices here?

This Valentine's Day segment was hilarious.

I also take it that Totty is officially the lowest on the totem pole of the Brothers since even when they stooped to giving each other chocolate, he still wasn't given any lol

[up] Simple, because he can easily have some himself (Same applies for Jyushi, but at least we can say that both Jyushi-girls [Country girl + Eitarou's mom] are some kind of "nomads").

I actually saw a Taiwanese fan disagreeing with the episode, saying that Sacchi and Aida should have granted one to Totty. The relationship between Totty and these two are certainly Zig-Zagged.

Season 2 Episode 21 sees a Heartwarming moment ("Great, my son!"), but more importantly we have Attractive Bent-Gender versions of the Sextuplets (minus Ichi, who is the strange manager) this time.

Totty actually looks cute no matter he's in drag or in all three gender bender versions (Todoko, the woman we saw 4 episodes ago, and now this), but it's the first time we see Oso, Choro and Jyushi can all look cute as well (Sorry Kara, I think Karako looks better; and Chibita resembles his drag look in Season 1 Episode 10, which is about OK). Of course, the cute ensemble is broken once we see Iyami, Dekapan, Dayon and Hatabo all have their female counterparts evil grin (I'd like to see Iyayo, Chibimi and the girl-Dayon who won Miss Japan return, but oh well)

And the close up shoots suggest a lot as well. Kara pairs up with Chibita while Choro pairs up with Totoko.
