Not just any massacre. A massacre of kids! Infant Immortality averted here.
I'm actually impressed that they have a somewhat reasonable explanation for the whole Walking Shirtless Scene thing, even in combat. If you've got metal bits sticking perpendicularly out of your spine, it actually makes sense that you might be more comfortable without a shirt.
I think you replied to the wrong thread.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. It's a less bullshit explanation for fanservice than fucking Quiet, anyway.
Not really, a Plug Suit like say Zone Of The Enders or Eva is the way they go for that. It's just another poor excuse, one that will probably backfire with its primary fanbase especially when there isn't a single female combat pilot in the entire show..

I replied to the right thread, those guards, those were fellow kids of Ogra's an Mika's. They died on screen, something not common in media.
I didn't say it was an iron-clad reason above reproach, I said it was "somewhat reasonable". The Third Group is considered disposable and obviously gets as little money spent on it as possible. They obviously don't much care about the kids, so rather than giving them special clothing to fit their shiny new cybernetic bits, they just tell them to deal with it... and they deal with it by just not wearing a shirt when they don't need to. Not entirely unreasonable.
Oh, fair enough. It just looked like you were replying to something that hadn't actually been said.
But yeah, I was actually pretty impressed with the combat. Sending in scout-snipers to take out sentries (hell, having sentries in the first place) — and having them fail and allowing them to warn the base anyway (without them being main characters and thus protected by plot armor, either!). That and having actual prepared fighting positions (those concrete armor barrier things the mobile workers were hiding behind as they fought) and stuff like landmines and artillery having an affect on the battle (though I'm still not sure if that artillery was actual for-reals howitzer-style artillery, or if it was just supposed to be a mobile suit weapon and they called it "heavy artillery" in the sense of "high-caliber weaponry").

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. How are they going to get a proper seal on their space suits if they need to leave the ports open? Would there have to a plug adapter of sorts built into it?
i. hear. a. sound. And the surprise attack using the Gundam, catching the enemy unaware and using that to their advantage.
Is this going to be Real Robot with actual tactics? If so. Good!

It's an engineering problem, sure, but as they go it's probably less of one then you think. It's not like the seal is going to be subjected to anything particularly forceful in a vacuum so it won't be that hard to maintain one, and vacuum exposure is actually relatively harmless to skin so you could subdivide the suit with an airtight neck ring and one for the waist in case the seals failed anyways.
Trying to design a diving suit for them on the other hand would be genuinely difficult.

Nous restons ici.So, is it safe to say that the blond Gjallahorn guy will be a Char Clone?
I'm waiting until I see a mask, a nickname, or a familial connection before I call Char Clone.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. It'd be a hell of a twist if they did a series without a Char Clone.
Nous restons ici.Only if he gets horribly, horribly disfigured and has to wear a mask.
Bulky shirtless dudes piloting giant robots with explosions and it's on mars and there's SPACE POLITICS oh my god this is perfect.
Let's not forget actual tactics.
You guys are really focused on the fact that they are shirtless. I actually had to go back and check if they are, because I didn't notice the first time.
How did you not notice this.
i. hear. a. sound. It's amazing what you can miss if you are not looking out for it. I guess my mind filtered that as unimportant detail.
We have different priorities.
i. hear. a. sound.So it seems.
I was paying too much attention to the fight choreography and mecha designs at that moment, so that would explain it.
The detail and thought put into the battle choreography were awesome.
i. hear. a. sound.A- no I don't need to say it anymore.
I'll praise it again next episode... I'll praise the episode if it's good. If not, I'll criticize it.
I like that the mechs (and the mobile worker things too, I think) are hand-drawn. It makes it seem as if they're alive.
Does the Gundam franchise always hand draw them? I mean, the more recent ones where CG mechs are possible.
(my tumblr) (my fics) (anime i watch)
Gotta say, I can't remember any previous Gundam series starting out this heavy on the manservice, even Wing or 00.
Wonder if Kudelia's going to get invited to the sweaty late-night pull-up contests and shirtless mech battles?
What's precedent ever done for us?
