I think he's decent.

I like that he used the same "stepdad" analogy that Jon Stewart used when he took over The Daily Show from Craig Kilborn.

If I had a nickel for every film where Emma Stone falls off a balcony... I'd only have two nickels, but weird that there's two of them.

Decent job overall, I'll give him time to settle in.

I've only seen some clips on CNN (it was playing), and from what I saw it seems like he did quite well. I'm looking forward to catching it on the Hulus.

Also, we've got discussion about splitting The Daily Show page into Trevor Noah and Jon Stewart pages. I'd really appreciate peoples' opinions on the matter.

The first episode was pretty funny. I liked the bit with Jordan Klepper.

Regarding the question, I think that some form of split makes sense, with The Daily Show acting as a parent and subpages for each era.

Okay, made Sandbox pages for The Daily Show, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, and The Daily Show With Trevor Noah.

If anyone would like to tweak the descriptions and maybe move some of the tropes from the TDSWJS page to the TDS page, I'd appreciate it.

...goodbye, Speaker of the House.

You were pretty awful, but at least you were realistically awful.

Agreed, but what's so worrisome is that Boehner was effectively ousted for being too willing to work with the left. The fact that he was considered too central is honestly worrisome.

EDIT: FYI, pages are split.

I like that he's coming out of the gate swinging. The material on the first two days has been very strong, and very funny, and Trevor has a clear point of view on everything. He isn't letting the message get in the way of being funny, but he isn't letting the jokes overwhelm what he's trying to say, either.

They've made good use of the correspondents so far. I didn't really expect new correspondents so quickly, but I guess the regular stable was down to only three by the end of Jon's run. I need to see more of Desi Lydic to really get a handle on her sense of humour and point of view, since the bit they had her do was very high-concept. Roy Wood, Jr. got to be himself a bit more, and it helps that I've seen him on other things (well, thing; it was @midnight) before.

His interview skills need some polish. He does a lot of the talking himself right now, and there's definitely places where he could have turned what he's saying into a question that his guest could have answered. But that will come with practice.

Basically, it feels like The Daily Show, but with some broken parts replaced and a fresh coat of paint, and I appreciate that.

So now that the first week is done what do ya'll think?

I think it was pretty solid. A much better first week then the nightly show, that's for sure.

Anyone catch Stephan Colbert's show the night after Trevor's show premiered?

"I don't know where Jon Stewart went on vacation, but he got himself a nice tan.... and an adorable accent."

A nice funny way to say Trevor's just as good as Jon.

Obviously, they all talk each other up; it's just good business. But I agree with Colbert: Noah is definitely growing into his role.

His interview skills need honing, but he's otherwise a very worthy successor.

Roy Wood Jr. is also already one of my favourite correspondents/contributors.

Honestly, I feel like Trevor crushed it for the first week, but he kind of feels like he's losing steam. Don't fuck this up, Noah! People's jobs are counting on you!

I'm very satisfied so far. Having Rachel Maddow on yesterday was great, especially given the timing of the Kevin McCarthy fiasco in Congress.

To be honest, I think I'm more put off by them replacing the announcer than by them replacing Jon.

I do really like Trevor. But I'm watching last night's episode, and playing a game on my phone, and when Hasan's field piece ended, I was distracted enough that I was expecting to hear Jon's voice throw to commercial, and was saddened when it wasn't him.

So I know I'm behind, but the segment about "pro-life but pro-guns" seemed a bit too Anvilicious to me. And I'm on the pro-choice anti-gun side. But it just felt too much like it was sacrificing humor for the message and the message didn't have enough context to truly be effective (seriously, I'd have loved to know more about how the PP videos were manipulatively edited).

... also, what's with the Steve Jobs dickriding? For a movie that opened in four theaters, there was a disproportionate amount of love.

Trever Noah had an emergency appendectomy this morning. He's doing well, though, so hopefully he'll be back tomorrow.

I think it says something that there's only a single page of posts since Noah started, but the old thread was, like, more than one. Or something.

It takes a certain critical mass of interest for a thread to be healthy. I absolutely loved TDS' beatdown of the Iowa GOP last night, after its chairman denied them a press pass for the recent candidates' convention over the concern that they would "make fun of Iowa". The segment had Noah and Klepper going over all the horrible things they "might" have said.

The quality of writing on TDS has stayed more or less the same after the change so incentive to comment on it hasn't changed all that much and I didn't find most old Daily Show episodes comment worthy either. Love the show but it's been fairly steady going for a while now, the breakout episodes that might incite a comment such as the one where Stewart imitated Glenn Beck are far and few in between.

This makes it harder to evaluate Noah as well. He doesn't write the show, even if he has input, so it's hard for him to give it his own flare and overall his personal style seems surprisingly close to Stewart. Really, the only thing that has changed is that instead of Stewart's Jersey jokes we now have ones about Africa (which is a well they seem to dip into a wee bit too often recently, even if they want to underline the outsider aspect).

So in the end we get a show that's very similar but with perhaps a bit decreased charisma. Not necessarily solely a good thing but makes it very easy to keep on watching.

On an aside, something about the new colour scheme/graphics really rubs me the wrong way. Another silly thing is how it throws me off to see Noah standing when he introduces moment of Zen. I keep expecting him to be sitting at the desk like Stewart. It's the strangest things we get attached to.
