Fiona shook her head and left with Carter. He seemed to be a decent enough person, definitely preferable to the insane paranoid-schizophrenic masquerading as a cop. As they stepped into the elevator and the door closed, she glanced over at Carter.

"...Thanks." She said.

Carter took the key to the Ford Taurus, thinking about what just went down. He had heard rumours about this place being a garbage bin for nutty cast offs, but he never thought it would be that bad before.

I hope he doesn't turn out to be the George Zimmerman type of fundamentalist.

It was when Fiona said thank you that Carter's mind went into overdrive.

Thanks...maybe this means she likes me! Despite being a very large man, in many aspects Carter was starved for romance. I mean its not much, and it'd be unrealistic to assume...though if it was...oh, but then it'd be work place romance and that'd be conflict of interest, but...

He got his thoughts in order and smiled at her, "Its good. I couldn't just stand by and let that walking stereotype insult you like that."

"Keep in touch, you guys. Cars are in the B1 parking lot, just so you know."

Mark said when he stepped out of the office and wore his jacket. He placed the revolver-type holster on his back. He knows that it'll do wonders if he has to sit down. He knows this and decides to risk a bit of pain just to have his alternate sidearm with him.

He went off and turned around and called for Billy. "Come on you. No funny business later."

"It is apparent that this place is still filled with heathens," When Billy first marched in the GPD he tried to convert the first guy he bumped into a cultist, "A shame despite my best efforts to show them the true way..." His head was downcast, absolutely mortified at the situation that he just witnessed, "If that's what happened today, then what more can I expect out on the field?" He said these words as if the world could explode any moment.

Accompanying his partner, and thinking he was possessed by a demon, Billy decided to bring a hand-grenade... just in case. This time it was modified to explode immediately if the pin was pulled, a perfect suicide weapon for the glory of the Armed Revenants. Today he received a dream that the entire GPD had been infiltrated by a demon but he didn't receive specific information on who exactly was the demon.

The Inspector sent out a SMS message to the SCS officers with the names and pictures of the Branson siblings.

The professor's name was Melissa Branson Thomkins, professor at GU who teaches psychology full tree. Her photo shows her in her late 30s with her brown hair in a ponytail.

The engineer's name was Donald Branson, engineer with Waste Management in his mid 30s with short brown hair and a clean shaven face.

The unmarked Ford Taurus was parked in an adjacent position in front of the Mazda6.

"Hm..." Mark checked his smartphone when it vibrated from his inner jacket pocket. He saw the update from the Inspector. "Looks like we got our name."

The ex-TIG operator unlocked the unmarked car's doors with the wireless key fob.

"I'll drive." He opened the door and got to the driver's seat.

"I was going to make a report to HR anyway." She said. "But it's good to know that even SCS doesn't let that kind of behavior fly. You want to drive?" She added as they approached the car.

Her phone buzzed, and she opened it to find the inspector's information on their person of interest. She nodded and opened Facebook, looking up the professor.

Billy was relieved, he used cars only for crashing into people. To maneuver the automobile in a skillful way was a completely different story. Suddenly, his ancient phone rang loudly, indicating that he forgot to put it on silent mode.

"Oh, sorry!" He said apologetically and reached for it. Since his gadget was so old-fashioned he wasn't able to get the picture but he did get the names and other relevant information.

Mark swore under his breath. He thinks Billy could use some work.

"Hey you guys." Mark called on Fiona and Carter for their brief attention. "We'll head out and see the engineer first. We'll call you if we get something significant."

Once he got inside the car, he closed the door and inserted the seat belt before he pressed the ignition button on the dashboard to start it up.

"We're going to the Waste Management building. It's just a few blocks away from HQ, so I want you to be on your best behavior. Got it?" Mark stared at Billy just to get his attention.

Nothing much was on the professor's official GU facebook account. Some of her photos showed that she was very happy in the pictures with her students and fellow faculty in the university. Other photos showed her teaching in class or holding conferences in and out of the country.

Some of her bio info mentions that her office in the downtown satellite campus, located a block or two near Japantown.

"Got it." Billy said crisply, at times he had the discipline to contain his fanaticism but that could work for a short period of time.

Just before Mark would drive the car, Billy asked, "I keep on hearing the word, 'internet', what does it mean?"

"Sure, Fiona, I uh, I'll drive."

Carter gets in the car, ignoring any look the fundamentalist may have been sending his way.

Looked like this family might have something going on right now. Hopefully they were not gonna be too late.

As they get ready to go, Carter answers what he thinks about the case, "its kind of crazy, but curse or no curse we have to resolve this. I am gonna say whether or not it's mundane or supernatural, the fact is people died and were hurt - we need to do whatever we can to stop this from exacerbating itself."

She nodded. "It's not the most straightforward case I've ever seen, but if we only had straightforward cases there would be no need for detective work, right?" She laughed.

"Have you been living under a rock now?"

Mark had to worry not only about his colleague's fundamentalist nonsense, but also have to worry about Billy not keeping in touch with reality.

As he drove the unmarked car out of the station's parking lot by driving onto the ramp to the surface entrance, Mark sighed. "I don't have time to explain things. But I'll make it simple."

He drove the Mazda6 when he turned right at the four-way intersection.

"It's a system of computer networks connected worldwide via the Internet protocol suite."

Mark made sure the gear was set to "Drive" mode, keeping an eye on the road.

"I don't have time to explain the rest. Use your free time to read it up if you really don't know. In fact, I don't really know you were able to join the force from the academy in the first place since it's a state requirement to join any police force in Washington."

"The internet and other such technology was invented simply because God let men attain that knowledge." Billy paused for a moment so he could speak about the other subject, "I was allowed here because I was sent on a mission to destroy all demonic forces that plague humanity. Law and order is one thing, but keeping the streets clear from powerful entities that you cannot see is another."

The car, being out of the station gave view to the city's fine tall buildings, the well-placed flora and some people walking about the place. Billy was distracted by this sight so he idly stared at the background, "I even sacrificed my position in the Armed Revenants to protect this city. It seemed a noble idea at first, but everywhere I am surrounded by folks with eccentric behavior. I am not just frustrated I am completely aghast at this dilemma. You can't live with them if you don't know who they are... and I just don't know what the hell is their problem."

He sighed again, not finished with his dialogue yet, "In my place, they believed what I said. But now everybody is conspiring to take me down. This city is surely filled with superstition. In the end, I can't call them people when they forget the will of God. Humans are just demons without His guidance. Even the demons themselves had a choice whether to follow God or not, and they choose not to. Humanity... is becoming a race of demons. I'm afraid that everybody will go to hell, and if I don't stop that then... people will burn forever."

He seemed to relax his guard at this moment, entering a contemplative state of his actions. Every human in one way or another meditates on reality, this is a rare opportunity when you take into account that he is frequently irrational.

"What would Jesus do?"

(GM post)

Inspector Collins placed a call after the SCS officers left to get their ME specialist down to the B5 level. The hospital made the necessary calls to have the corpse transferred to police custody.

I just hope she gets there to have a look...

Gabriela was happily humming the House theme song as she got out her tools when the corpse was wheeled in.

A constable greeted the doctor when he brought in the files for her to read on the patient, including the missing person's report.

"Doc." The constable nodded at her. "It's the suspect responsible for killing hitchhikers after they pick him up. Turns out that the dead guy's from a missing person's report from the 1980s. Name of Carl Branson. Inspector Collins is still trying to ascertain things, including the expedited release of any medical or arrest record of the man."

The folder was handed to her. "Guy took a lot of bullets from the TIG before he went down. Homicide thinks that he may some disorder that makes him insensitive to pain. Their report hasn't arrived yet."

Mark stayed silent as he drove on towards their destination.

I just hope the SCS can reform this guy. Otherwise, he's a danger to himself, the other guys and even to the public.

After driving for a few minutes, signs on the road indicated that they were almost near the Waste Management building.

Carter drove toward their location, despite his exterior it was obvious he was a very well practised, capable driver. While he was patient, it was clear that when the road was open he moved as quickly as was legal and right.

"So, uh, Fiona, how did you end up joining the SCS?"

Carter thought about that dangerous, prejudiced bastard, and how he and his cult of friends were a danger now to the world they hated for not living to their standards.

You can't live life thinking things are black and white. I was friends for lack of a better word with Legend. I saw where that mindset really ended for him - madness, sociopathy, death.

Everybody thinks there's something in between, that's a lie. Everything is a battle between good and evil, and there are shades of white and black but not grey. There is a heaven for those who accept god and a hell for those who don't. Everything else is just anarchy, you can't build something if there are too many conflicts. There has to be peace even through war. I fight for that peace, and this world is full of wars. It will be about time before the Kingdom of God will truly be manifested.

Billy noticed the Waste Management Building signs and was ready to get out of the car any moment. As paranoid as he is, he's pretty good at fending off ambushes should they come to place.

Fiona went quiet for a second.

"I don't know how much SCS hears about Homicide's politics." She said quietly. "But I'm sure you remember Detective O'Hara's funeral. He...he was my partner. They needed someone to blame. My head was the one that rolled."

Carter breathed deeply while driving, he felt deeply for her, and he knew how it hurt to lose your comrades and the people you liked, loved, enjoyed, befriended. And the idea that they shuffled her off for something she could not prevent nor was she in any way involved with...the very concept of such a decision was maddening.

"Fiona, that's...that's horrible. I cannot fathom why people would do something like that to your career for something you had nothing to do with..."

First she goes through all that, and now she is shuffled off into the SCS, where she had to deal with a preacher living out of the 17th-18th century.

Carter had looked up the cause of death of the officer and everything, and wondered whether the suspect they had used some form of spell. It sounded eerily familiar to what was going on with Carter's own family, except more immediately lethal.

Could there be a link?

Signs on the road indicated that the Greenpoint University downtown campus is just near after a few more kilometers and that they were approaching the outskirts of Japantown.

A GU university sign is seen on the side with an huge open parking lot in front of the building. There's some space for "Police Vehicles" only parking spots with a guardhouse positioned there.

A GU campus police officer was seen standing on guard duty. He also was armed.

An opening parking lot was seen on the side of the Waste Management building. An automatic barrier is seen covering the entrance with the guardhouse next to it.

"Can I help you gents?" The WM guard poked his head out of the guardhouse.

"We're from the Greenpoint Police Department." Mark introduced himself when he halted the Mazda6 in front of the barrier.

The guard looked at Mark and Billy and said. "I need to see your IDs before I can let you in."

"That sounds nice. So I'm looking for nerve damage, getting out the bullets..." She said, coming closer to the corpse with a tray of surgical tools. She looked at the dead man curiously. "What's up Carl? What were you doing? Didn't you know it's bad manners to hitch and kill?"
