The boy called Michael did have a point. Nobody here seemed to have, inherently, arrived with very much. Just some clothes and a weapon... Some not even that. Pretty odd... The fire seemed to be starting, which was good. "I'm not sure what to do from here. I'm able to hunt for food and survive on my own, but somehow I don't think going rogue from here is a good idea..." Sarah was still laying down and looking up, her sleek bow resting atop the grass. It was more of a mumbling to herself rather than an actual statement to the rest, but if they heard it was fine. Not like it was some grand secret.
Another elf, or rather, the only other elf in the group was the next to speak. They talked about getting revenge on the guv... "Lady, I think we all have a certain grudge after the display showed today. But you've seen what he can do for yourself. I say we head off in another direction and come back some other time... I feel bad about leaving things the way they are, but right now it's suicide. We're lucky to have gotten the weakest guards out of the bunch, but what would have happened if they were more well trained?" Sarah chimed in, then decided to sit up straight. It seems the fire was starting to come along nicely...
"I'm from...err," Ruve started out with a prideful smile but that quickly dissipated once she realized that she can't even remember where she was from, which was rather embarrassing, considering her poems were always about talking about where you come from and your roots."Some city? I was a weaver by day, drunken poet by night, nothing too adventurous..."
Speaking of poems, she still can't remember them yet, that's the central part of her own identity. On the other hand, if she can't recall them, perhaps she'll create a new one. It might sounds disheartening to start from the bottom all over again but for her, a new start, in both lifestyle and poetry, means newer lyrics, newer perspective, maybe it'll get her more success later.
So she decided to stay quiet for a moment and listened intently to the other people. So far so good, but she soon realized what was missing.
"Oh, guys, do you have any ink and paper?"
http://www.last.fm/user/sgtpendulum Yo, check out what I'm listening, it'll be heat, brah :^)"I must agree, we don't have a plan...let alone a chance, I think." He started to dig through the supplies he had. Eventually he found something that may fit his ally's plight: a long stick of charcoal, and a few sheets of papyrus.
He walked over to Ruve and held the small bundle out. "Will this work for the moment?"
Ezekiel shook his head as he turned to Ciel. "I feel the need to take care of him as well, but to do now could very well spell the end for us..." He taps his chin in thought as he thinks. "Perhaps...weaker prey first, to establish ourselves to each other. Prove that we know we have what it takes, yes. So we can become familiar with how one another operates before attempting to take him..."
"I am nature's weapon. You are unfit to carry on your species, and I shall ensure that you do not do so!" - Charles Darwin, XCOM SniperHaving come to a decision on their next move, at least provisionally, the strangers nonetheless found themselves hampered by something harder to refute. Nightfall came fast as the sun sank below the western horizon, the brilliant orange sunset dimmed and blurred by some sort of haze in the air far to the west. With the disappearance of the sun came a chill night wind, but fortunately the strong and sturdy canvas of the makeshift tents they had been given proved thick enough to take the worst of the bite from it. Four tents would have to suffice, it seemed.
It's been fun. With this being their base camp for the night it seemed, Leil offered to stand guard for the group, only needing a few hours of sleep to be refreshed... which she could accomplish while everyone else was getting ready in the morning. The elven warrior thus stood her vigil, spear in hand as she looks at the moon and thinks on the current predicament.
The night was already several hours old now, and the moon was high and huge in the sky, casting the fields, the forests, and the distant mountains in silvery light. There was a chill in the air, a sharp and sweet cold that brushed Leil's nose as she kept watch. Even the lights of Lovak several miles out were muted, where they were lit at all. The night was still.
And then Leil heard the first wolf begin to howl.
Leil's sharp hearing told her what she already knew instinctively - the campsite was surrounded before the howl faded away. Quick howls and low, throaty growling came from every direction, circling the little hollow. Leil caught some glances of the beasts; they were big, standing maybe to her hip at the shoulder, their eyes glowing green in the moonlight. This was not a threat she could handle on her own.
It's been fun.Adelaide jerked awake, fumbling for the sword she had laid down next to her before going to sleep. She found the handle, grabbed it, then leapt out of bed, having gone to sleep in her armor. She extricated herself from her tent and went to Leil's side, sword held out in front of her and face set.
“Not a promise, not an oath, or a malediction or a curse. Inevitable." - Taylor HebertSarah's eyes shot open. Damnit! Danger, and lots of it judging by the sounds outside... Her bow was still clutched tight in hand, and the elf rushed out of the tent. "What now?!" Sarah stumbled next to Leil, fully awake and eyeing the wolves surrounding the group. This wasn't good... And Huntress couldn't get up higher either. Seems like it's about to turn into fighting on equal grounds... She pulled a single arrow from her quiver and rested it on the bow in her hand, though did not fire nor pull back yet. Not everyone was here yet, prematurely provoking now would be bad...
Michael dashed up from his bed and out of the tent. He was a light sleeper and this awoke him quickly. He looked around rapidly, grabbing a piece of firewood from the fire using it as a torch.
"Please remember many of us are unarmed and I cant really disarm these like I did the guards." He warns to the group in a hushed tone to not provoke anything yet.
"After time adrift among open stars, along tides of light and through shoals of dust, I will return to where I began."Camp
Ezekiel rose from his slumber, his hand rubbing at his eye as he exited. "Beasts? I suppose I should have expected as much...how many, Huntress?" He asked the Elven woman as he gripped the shaft of his hammer.
"I am nature's weapon. You are unfit to carry on your species, and I shall ensure that you do not do so!" - Charles Darwin, XCOM SniperCalcol bolted upright, among the last to do so. Age had really made him a heavy sleeper, he felt. Not having enough time to put on anything but his helm, he quickly exited his makeshift tent, sword drawn. "Wolves, right? Right?" They were tactical and more cunning than most predators, but at the same time there were much stronger beasts to be worried about. Though he couldn't make them out in this lighting, he was confident as he stood with the rest of his impromptu traveling group.
The flash of fire from Michael's torch as he joined Leil at the line pushed the wolves back, the beasts baring long and stained teeth in snarls as they circled the very edge of the reddish light. Grass rustled all around the hollow... and then, in a flash of motion, two wolves burst from the underbrush, attempting to bowl Ash over. The campsite erupted into a chaos of teeth and fur as the rest of the pack rushed in as well, striking at the unarmed and unarmored.
It's been fun.Michael seeing the wolves lash out, grabs a second piece of wood from the fire. One flame in each hand as he moves himself to defend some of the others. Spinning movements of flames, some brushing very close to his own skin though not burning him or his clothes.
His goal was to drive the wolves away from the others, not so much working to defending himself. Wearing only mere cloth and thin leather, he was being a little reckless. Though the wolves do dislike the flame, that was his reliance.
"After time adrift among open stars, along tides of light and through shoals of dust, I will return to where I began."Sarah was no stranger to danger, but this was stupid... How did a whole pack of wolves manage to find them and think to hunt?! Normally those things are cowards when it comes to the sentient races, but not these apparently... Huntress tightened the grip on her bow and arrow, holding it horizontally while staring down the circling pack. When one would jump out she'd shoot at them, after that it's a free for all... What the blonde WASN'T expecting, though, was two of them lunging at a single person. The elf flinched and tried to shoot one, quickly firing off the arrow as a snapshot. It was highly inaccurate due to the panic. Damnit!
Sarah didn't have much time to think afterwards. Everything started happening as once. She loaded up another arrow with a single, swift movement and coated it. Firing off another shot, it was this time to aim at one of the more generic pack wolves trying to single one of them out. She was placed terribly, though... Huntress was at the front lines due to being out of the tent fast, yet she'd rather be in the back and support her allies. She'd try to retreat into the back, loading up another arrow while running.
Ash screamed "Right!" To Calcol and attempted to brace herself and draw her staff across her head and body protecting her throat. She would have liked to have had somewhat more impressive last words but she was under a fair bit of stress at the moment.

~Hey Yew! Don't tell me there's no hope at aaaaallllllll!~The wolves Sarah and Adelaide struck at fell with yelps and whimpers, though it was impossible to see if they had been fatally injured in the dark and the rush of wolves moving around the campsite. Only one wolf made it through to Ash's feet, though, and its jaws closed around the foot of her staff as it began to pull the ash stave away from her. Another pair of wolves rushed at the unarmed Calcol, leaping at him.
On the other side of the camp, the threat of Michael's torches and Leil's spear kept the wolves circling and growling, their eyes glinting green in the torchlight. Every now and then one would feint forward, the entire pack shifting like a single living organism, but nothing came of it.
It's been fun.

"Either Fate or some other force may have brought us all together... There is a strange... bond, with all of you. We all don't remember quite how we got here... but whatever it is, I think we are needed in these parts. We just need to figure out what we should do and then do it" says Leil as she looks off into the dark tower "For my part... I want to end a certain Governor"
