Keep in mind that Legendary is at the end of their deal with Toho and Toho is all too eager to make their own Godzilla films.
So it makes sense for Godzilla vs. Kong to be the Grand Finale just in case they don't get a renewal.
So in humorously lighter news, this movie is being released alongside a children's book, Kong and Me about a little girl who befriends the big ape and goes exploring with him
.
That's extra funny to me because I remember the old IDW Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters comics, which were a (bad) satire of modern life with an almost sadistic glee in having its monsters kill children.
Just saw the movie.
I'll be seeing it again soon, with my sister this time, so I'll see if my opinion changes, but for right now I think I liked Kotm better. If only for the overall atmosphere of that film and me caring more about Ghidorah and Mothra than Kong. Also 0/10: not enough Mechagodzilla.
The final fight in Hong Kong is probably the best choreographed monster fight in the entire monsterverse though.

Kaze ni Nare!Just saw the movie. I liked. Though I preferred King of The Monsters personally. The human characters are still boring. But the title fight was great. Needed more Mechagodzilla in my opinion.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadWait a second. About Mecha Godzilla. He's a creation of humans, is meant to surpass and supplant the Kaiju in every way, part of the previous film's villain's DNA is used in his construction, and said villain ultimately ends up taking control and becoming the true nemesis of the movie.
.......................... They just straight up copied Transformers: Age of Extinction of all fricken films.
I saw it last night and I liked it for the most part. The film sure as heck doesn't lie about its premise, you want Godzilla vs. Kong, you get Godzilla vs. Kong, and some human tag-alongs. Admittedly Kong's group feels a lot more connected than Eleven, her friend, and the conspiracy theorist.
Thumbs up if you're into kaiju movies.
It's less surprising if you've seen the original movie. Godzilla kicked the crap out of Kong in that movie too and nearly killed him. Kong only prevailed in the end thanks to being revived by lightning, and gaining the ability to use said lightning against Godzilla (with this version of Godzilla being vulnerable to such attacks).
Also not surprised that Mechagodzilla was more than a match for Godzilla and Kong and only lost at the end due to its controls being shorted out. Pretty much every incarnation of Mechagodzilla has proven to be a foe Godzilla cannot defeat on his own.
Mechagodzilla going out of control due to Ghidorah's brain being used in its creation also brings to mind Millennium Mechagodzilla aka Kiryu who had similar issues as a result of being created with the bones of the original 1954 Godzilla.

Disgusted, but not surprised![]()
Oh, I remember that entry keenly(it's actually one of my favorite Godzilla or Kong flicks), but some part of me was expecting a version of Kong concocted from the ground up to be treated like a real threat to Godzilla, and he never seems to be. Which I found refreshing, because while I enjoy all versions of Kong, I never considered this a serious match in the first place.

I generally enjoyed the film and it basically accomplishes what it sets out to do. I did find the human side of the story very pedantic and nonsensical, with plot points that barely hang together. I can see how it is better appreciated than KOTM because Kong is less of a cipher than Godzilla, it's overall brighter, has a bit more variety in action sequences and a satisfying resolution. It has a lot of the same problems with KOTM, though, particularly in shoveling exposition in truck loads and advanced human technology just appearing out of nowhere. We have had a few recurring side characters in the various movies but no two movies have anywhere close to the same cast, which is a core problem.
I did find the massive construction projects interesting from a visual standpoint, but feel that in part because of the cast turnaround it doesn't really feel earned. Security at these highly classified locations are comical and takes Elaborate Underground Base to a new level.
I did like the personification of Godzilla and Kong, as there are small moments that display intelligence over instinct. Godzilla trounces Kong to a mess, Kong is beaten but refuses to submit and they both roar at each other. Then Godzilla leaves him, technically dying but not eviscerated, with a look that indicates Worthy Opponent. Though Godzilla is more of a Villain Protagonist here, as the explanation of his behavior ( he senses Ghidorah reforming in various Mechagodzilla components and is targeting Apex installations trying to find it) makes sense but the wanton destruction and harassment of human infrastructure in these circumstances gives you a Villain Has a Point in that Godzilla can't be trusted to be on their side.

Comics are just words and pictures. You can do anything with words and pictures.I kind of wished they'd gone with the old King Kong vs Godzilla's idea of giving Kong electric powers, because a giant gorilla shooting lightning is exactly the kind of absurd-but-cool thing a movie like this needs. On the whole I thought it was a good movie, and I liked the way it showed their advantages (Kong having more developed arms and better agility, and Godzilla's Breath Weapon being completely OP).
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Honestly the movie was worth watching just for the bits where Kong recreates moments from Die Hard and Lethal Weapon 2.
And it's a shame that Kyle Chandler doesn't meet Kong in this, since he has some experience in Kong related matters.

Having watched most of the movie at this (awesome kaiju battles!), I'm just wondering if the climax being in Hong Kong is a joke/pun on Kong?...

You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the mid

Nope. Although from what I heard the ending makes it open for a sequel.
